Garbine Muguruza, 29, has indicated very directly that she still doesn’t have a comeback date or target. Muguruza, a two-time Grand Slam champion, started the 2023 season with a 0-4 record before abruptly deciding to step away from tennis in February.

Since taking a break from tennis, Muguruza has been enjoying some quality time with her fiance, family and friends. This past weekend in Malaga, Diario Sur caught up with former world No 1 Muguruza and asked her if she was planning on playing at the 2024 Australian Open. “I only think about enjoying this vacation to the fullest, I haven’t thought about anything yet, it’s September and there’s a long way to go.

I’m making plans that when I was competing on the Tour I couldn’t do,” Muguruza told Diario Sur.

In February, Muguruza was scheduled to play a few tournaments in the Middle East but then abruptly withdrew from all of the tournaments where she signed up. In April, Muguruza broke her silence and revealed to her fans that she was just taking time for herself. “Spending time with family and friends and it’s really been healthy and amazing so I am going to lengthen this period till summer.

Therefore I’m going to miss the clay and gras season. Thanks for all the lovely messages and will be updating you guys,” Muguruza said in a message posted on her Instagram Story in early April. After confirming her tennis break in April, the following month Muguruza shared some major life news – she got engaged to her long-time boyfriend Arthur Borges.

“We would like it to be next year, in the summer, near the beach and in Spain, because it is the place that most unites us,” Muguruza told iHola! in May.
