Author and sports journalist Alan Shipnuck’s most talked-about work is his unauthorized biography of Phil Mickelson. In the book Phil: The Rip-Roaring (and Unauthorized!), the biography of Golf’s most colorful Superstar, he covered the life of the ‘Lefty’. In one segment, Shipnuck also stated how Lefty called Saudis “scary motherf***ers.”
Mickelson and Shipnuck do not get along well because of this uncensored and unapproved book. And now, Mickelson’s rival Woods could be the next target for Shipnuck. The author recently made an appearance on the Bunkered podcast, hosted by DC Thompson, where he talked about his book and how amazing it was to chronicle Lefty’s life and his connection to golf, especially with LIV Golf.
When Shipnuck was asked, since he has been covering golf for a long time now, was LIV the biggest thing that happened? Shipnuck disagreed and talked about 15 major-win moments in and out of golf. ”Tiger winning the 97th Masters—that’s obviously a monumental moment for the sport. Tiger would have the 2019 Masters, a Tiger sex scandal, and a Tiger car crash in the US. There’s a lot of Tiger moments that are huge,” said Shipnuck.

The author opened up about the embarrassment he faced
The author and Lefty are not on great terms. And it was seen at the LIV Golf London event as well. Shipnuck shared on the podcast how security kicked him out of Mickelson’s press conference.
He recounted the moment and said the people who threw him out were actually from Mickelson’s management company, not LIV Golf. Additionally, he mentioned that Greg Norman was present at the time but decided not to intervene. ”Norman kind of, I think, wandered into the middle of the whole situation. He clearly could have interceded and de-escalated it, and he chose not to and then he lied about it which was really lame.”
