Terence Crawford Wants Edgar Berlanga to Fight His Friend Steven Nelson

Nothing less than a Canelo Alvarez fight. If not the Mexican icon, then Jaime Munguia could do as well. But no David Morrell, at least for now. This is what Edgar Berlanga stated during the post-fight conference. So is there a chance of accommodating another fighter as a potential opponent? Terence Crawford apparently believes so.

The former undisputed champion may himself find his own name come up and drop off frequently against Canelo Alvarez. However, he might have the best suggestion on a match-up for ‘The Chosen One’. The latter defeated Padraig McCrory two days ago in the most emphatic manner. But more significantly, the victory had made him the WBA mandatory challenger to the undisputed super middleweight champion.

The reporter, who raised the question during the post-fight presser, told Edgar Berlanga how he met David Morrell after the fight. The WBA (regular) super middleweight champion expressed a willingness to fight ‘The Chosen One’. So the reporter asked, “If you couldn’t get Munguia, if you couldn’t get Canelo, would you consider Morell for your next fight?” The NABO super middleweight title holder replied, “Nah, we uh we we we on to something different right now. You know, I know they you know they gave us a WBA… number one for the for the title but yeah, we want the bigger things. You know, we want Canelo.

But Terence Crawford believes that his childhood friend and confidant Steven Nelson can equally make for a good fight. If that’s what Edgar Berlanga is looking for. In fact, going by what he said, the welterweight champion is supremely confident that ‘So Cold’, the WBO-NABO super middleweight title holder, might inflict far greater damage on ‘The Chosen One.’

The Nebraskan southpaw, tagging both Berlanga and Nelson, said, “@EdgarBerlangaJr coo peoples, but I think ma brother @SoColdNelson will smash him. It will be a good fight for both guys too.

However, as one of the followers pointed out, ‘So Cold’ doesn’t seem to have fought any credible name thus far in his eight-year-old career. More so, all the matches that he participated in maxed out at ten rounds.

On the other hand, given where he stands now, so close to his objective of fighting Canelo Alvarez, there’s a remote likelihood of Edgar Berlanga taking on a seemingly not-so-well-known boxer. Moreover, engaging in a confrontation with Nelson might not be particularly advantageous. It doesn’t seem to offer the opportunity to secure a championship belt or substantial financial gain.
