“The View”’s Sunny Hostin wants ‘more’ for Simone Biles after husband Jonathan Owens says ‘men are the catch’

“I hope she’s happy. No one ever knows what’s going on in relationships, but she is the catch,” the panelist said.

Green Bay Packers safety Jonathan Owens’ recent comments about his relationship with wife Simone Biles did not score perfect 10s from the ladies of The View.

Owens sparked heavy backlash on social media last month after he revealed on the Pivot podcast that he’d never heard of Biles — one of the most decorated gymnasts in history — prior to matching with her on the dating app Raya in 2020. When the interviewer suggested that he was the “catch” in their relationship, the NFL star drew further outrage online by responding, “I always say the men are the catch.”

Sunny Hostin opened up the table’s conversation by promptly setting the record straight. “He knew who she was. She was on a Wheaties box,” she said. “Everybody knows who Simone Biles is. I don’t know who he is.”

The part that got me is when he says, ‘I always think the man is the catch,’” Sara Haines interjected. “Have you met other men, and are you listening to yourself right now? I cannot believe.”

“I want more for her,” Hostin added. “I hope she’s happy. No one ever knows what’s going on in relationships, but she is the catch.”

Alyssa Farah Griffin took a moment to defend the “very beautiful and adorable couple,” who tied the knot in 2023, from her costars. “She is the greatest of all time so he should’ve known,” she acknowledged, “but I give him some grace.”

Haines noted, however, that Biles’ popularity transcends both the Olympics and her sport. “And the other thing is gymnastics is much harder,” she said. “No shade to football players, ‘cause here it comes, but football players run into each other. You bang into each other, you throw a ball, you hope you catch it — gymnasts do things with their body that is muscles from their fingertips all the way down to their toes.”

“I’d like to see that man try any of that,” she continued. “Because she said she did football pre-training, she killed it. He tried one of her workouts and couldn’t do it. Case is settled. Boom boom!”

Hostin further explained that she has “trouble with a man who can’t let his spouse or partner shine” in their relationship. Whoopi Goldberg then asked her to “change the phraseology” of the sentence surrounding the word “letting” when it comes to a relationship.

“He’s not letting her do [anything],” Goldberg said, “she does what she does.”

“Like Steve and I compete over who’s gonna fall asleep first,” Joy Behar joked, referring to her husband of 12 years. “New Year’s Eve, we were out by 10 o’clock.”

Still, Griffin said that she believed that Owens was “being playful” with his comment about men always being the catch in a relationship. “If you watch them together, he treats her like a queen. He is obsessed with her,” she emphasized. “He realized that he did get the greatest of all time and she’s amazing and I think he actually does treat her super well. I root for this one.”
