Two lions can never live in a single forest. Given the proximity of their divisions, a challenge, or at least a pretense of challenge, between two of the biggest superstars of boxing is bound to occur at some point. The beef between Terence Crawford and Gervonta Davis has continued for some time. Opening a new chapter in their ‘Game of Thrones,’ or rather ‘Game of Gloves,’ the Welterweight champion, his protégé Shakur Stevenson, and a few friends took a broad swipe at Davis.

Ask any die-hard fan about Gervonta Davis, and the chances are they would repeat those immortal lines the Lightweight champion delivered after tearing apart Ryan Garcia. When asked whether he was the face of boxing, ‘Tank’ replied, “Abso-f***king-lutely!” While some might buy his argument for saying so, many would disagree. There are other strong contenders—Terence Crawford, who became the first man to become a two-division undisputed champion in July.

Terence Crawford shared a short clip through his Instagram story early today. He is not visible on camera. Nevertheless, it showed him joining a few buddies, which included the most recent entrant to the Lightweight division, Shakur Stevenson. So, teasing an interview with Gervonta Davis, Crawford asks a young boy, “Tank, Tank, what [do] you do to all?” The youngster replied, “I’ll beat all of them…

Then, exclaiming that he (Davis) has defeated almost everyone, Crawford turns to each friend present. He says, “You beat all of them…you ran all of them down…ran you down, ran you down… ran you down… ran you down, hey hey you lost, hey the champ, the champ.” Towards the end, Shakur Stevenson appears, shouting, “…he beat everybody‘”

Nevertheless, the match proves to be an exciting prospect with two dominant fighters set to go head-to-head.

Terence Crawford versus Gervonta Davis?

The genesis of their war of words goes back to sometime early in August. A few days after ‘Bud’ had defeated Errol Spence Jr., Gervonta Davis claimed in a podcast that he could wind up Crawford well within six rounds! In the meantime, the Welterweight champion expressed a keen interest in pursuing a potential line-up against either Canelo Alvarez or Jermell Charlo. To that end, he even seemed willing to frog leap divisions.

So, is there any scope for Gervonta Davis? In a podcast, the Nebraskan acknowledged what a potential fight with the Baltimorean means. Given the latter’s star value, a clash between the two is a sure top draw and payday. However, that’s not enough. Terence Crawford clarified the only way a bout between the two could happen. ‘Tank’ must climb to 147 pounds to meet the two-division undisputed champion.
