Tyson Fury’s threat to sue Oleksandr Usyk comes back to haunt him

Tyson Fury’s words have come back to haunt him after threatening to sue Oleksandr Usyk if their undisputed fight doesn’t go ahead this year.

Heavyweight champions Fury and Usyk were expected to fight on December 23 but that date has now been pushed back to February because of the damage Fury sustained against Francis Ngannou last weekend. Fury was expected to breeze past former UFC champion Ngannou to set up a fight with Usyk, but he needed to pick himself up off the canvas to scrape out a split decision win.

Fury told Sky Sports before the fight: “Usyk’s a sausage. I expect it to be taking place in December, that’s what I’ve been told, so I’ve got no reason to disbelieve it. Usyk has to fight me in December, doesn’t have a choice. He signed the contract, so if he doesn’t, he’s breached contract and he gets sued. So he doesn’t really have a choice.

The Brit was still sporting a black eye after being pictured outside of his home in Morecambe almost a week on from the fight. Fury was spotted alongside wife Paris getting into his Rolls-Royce Phantom Series II car, which is worth over £300,000. It was also the first time the couple have been seen out together in public with their new son and seventh child, Prince Rico Paris Fury.

Usyk was ringside for Fury’s recent win and was even shouting instructions for his heavyweight rival. The Ukrainian has insisted that he will be ready to fight on December 23 but Fury is not thinking about boxing for now and is letting Saudi Arabia take care of the undisputed clash.

They [Saudi] will sort it out when they sort it out. Until that day, I’m not interested. I said before, don’t bother me about boxing until after this fight. I’m going home and I’m going to have a break to spend time with my kids, I’ve been away for 12 weeks. I’ve had a newborn baby I’ve seen three times that’s six weeks old already,” Fury told iFLTV.

“I’m fighting Usyk next and we’ve both signed the contract, whenever that is it is. All these boxing things and whatever else… I’ve done my job and I’ve been paid. Happy days and onto the next one. I’ll get paid for that one and onto the next one after that. Nothing more to be said.”Tyson
