Gervonta Davis Appears To Rule Out Frontrunner For Next Fight

The ring return of Gervonta Davis is highly anticipated following a stoppage win over Ryan Garcia back in April.

The incredibly lucrative fight saw ‘Tank’ drop the previously undefeated Garcia in both the second and seventh rounds, the latter being a showstopping body shot marking the winner’s 29th win and 27th by KO.

Any momentum gathered was halted by a court case relating to a hit and run that saw Davis serving community service, subsequently jail time.

Now out and in training, talk has turned to who the Baltimore puncher may face next. With the lightweight titles having the potential to become vacant soon as champion Devin Haney has a crack up at 140lbs, Davis is not far off fighting for a belt. He is currently the WBA Regular Champion, and number one is a former foe in Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz.

The pair have faced off before, and the win was one of only two ‘Tank’ fights that made it the distance. A rematch has been discussed, and was said to be the frontrunner for his return. Reports even suggested a date was pencilled in.

‘Tank’s trainer, Calvin Ford, has been open in wanting the rematch, saying that it was his preferred fight. However, in a recent interview with ES News, the coach and mentor alluded to Davis ruling this out.

It will likely be a welcome decision from fans, who are keen to see Davis continue to test himself against the likes of Devin Haney and Shakur Stevenson.
