“Just Gotta Prove Myself Now”: While Demanding His Rematch at 140, Ryan Garcia Claims to Be “Better” Than Gervonta Davis

It would be a redemption arc of the decade if Ryan Garcia met Gervonta Davis in the ring a second time and actually won the fight. ‘King Ry’ is about to enter the square circle for the first time after tasting his first career defeat at the hands of Gervonta Davis. However, sure about defeating his upcoming opponent, Oscar Duarte, the Los Angeles resident demands his rematch at 140lbs.

Earlier this year, ‘Tank’ Davis went toe-to-toe with Garcia in a nail-biting battle that resulted in a seventh-round knockout victory for ‘Tank’. Despite the WBA lightweight champion’s dominant win, ‘King Ry’ suggests he is better than him. While appearing in a recent interview with Fight Hub TV, the Victorville native detailed his demands from Davis, claiming he doesn’t care who he has to fight to get to ‘Tank’.

Ryan Garcia is worried about himself

Gervonta Davis

When probed about potentially facing Shakur Stevenson, Garcia asserted he is not worried about his future opponents. Rather, according to Garcia, he is worried about himself, and he wants a rematch. “I’m worried about me. I want to get my rematch,” said Garcia. He went on to suggest that he wants the fight at the right weight, presumably 140. “I want to get that running back at the right weight,” Garcia told Fight Hub.

Garcia went as far as to claim that even ‘Tank’ knows he is better than how he performed in the last fight. In addition, the 23-1 boxer claimed that he is even better than Gervonta Davis despite a loss against him. “He knows that it wasn’t who I really was, and I don’t care what anybody says. That’s not me. I don’t fight like that, and I’m way better than that. I’m better than him and I just gotta prove myself now,” stated Garcia. Impressing upon the importance of the goal, Garcia added, “If I gotta go through Teofima Lopez and Devin Haney to get that. I’m gonna do it.”

Ryan’s promoter on ‘Sugar’ Stevenson vs. ‘King Ry’

While Ryan’s fight against Duarte on December 5 is approaching quickly, Oscar De La Hoya is planning Ryan’s next fight. Garcia is trying to fast-track his way to a rematch with Tank, and he doesn’t care who he has to fight. Meanwhile, in a recent tweet, Oscar De La Hoya hinted at a potential fight between Shakur Stevenson and Garcia.

“@RyanGarcia vs Shakur how many PPV and trust me it’ll all be Ryan who is selling the majority,” posted De La Hoya on his X account. Considering Shakur’s last fight against Edwin De Los Santos, Oscar’s claim might not be far-fetched. If the response from the boxing world to the Shakur fight is to be believed, the fight was boring because Shakur kept running away.

Months after their initial encounter, Ryan Garcia is now demanding a rematch with ‘Tank’ Davis at 140lbs. However, it begs the question – will the rematch have a different result? Will Gervonta acknowledge the callout? Tell us in the comments below.
