Terence Crawford has made it clear that he wants to make a three-weight jump to face Saul ‘Canelo’ Álvarez.
The welterweight champion from Omaha has proved fans should not doubt him, most recently with a dominant win over Errol Spence Jr to become undisputed.
That makes it three divisions ‘Bud’ has conquered, undisputed in two, and he has his eye on more before hanging up the gloves.
Despite having a contractual rematch with Spence up next, he’s not been shy in calling out Canelo, who holds all four world titles at 168.
Canelo is coming off the back of a successful defence against Jermall Charlo, and is yet to announce his next fight. If it was to be Crawford, former undisputed heavyweight champion Riddick Bowe believes the smaller man gets the win.
Asked about the match-up by Dr Beau Hightower, Bowe simple said ‘Bud’ when asked who he felt would come out on top.
No stranger to chasing greatness, ‘Big Daddy’ Bowe was a two-time heavyweight champion and one half of one of the most celebrated trilogies in the division against Evander Holyfield.
If Crawford can land the fight, he’ll enter the ring the underdog against a Mexican fighter who has already earned his place in the Hall of Fame.
Perhaps unfortunately for fans, Canelo has said the fight isn’t in his current plans – even despite Crawford’s continuous call outs.
Instead, he’s rumoured to be in talks with countryman Jaime Munguia for May and will be expected to face the winner of David Benavidez-Demetrius Andrade thereafter.
Crawford is set to announce the weight and date for the Spence rematch soon before making a decision on where he goes next.
