Lewis Hamilton’s first-ever teammate in a single-seater racing series, Matthews Howson, recently spoke about what Hamilton was like when he was young and moving up the ranks to become an F1 driver. Hamilton and Howson were teammates in Formula Renault all the way back in 2001.

Speaking on the On Track Podcast recently, Howson initially explained how confident Lewis Hamilton was right from the get-go. However, he assured the podcast listeners that it was not in an arrogant or negative way. Howson praised the seven-time world champion for being compassionate and for how he genuinely cared about people around him.

He said:

Howson pointed out how people may have taken his confidence as arrogance. He added that the Briton was never overconfident about getting into F1:

Matthews Howson further explained how Lewis Hamilton’s confident personality right from an early age must have helped him in his long and successful career in Formula 1:

In the fiercely competitive world of boxing,  Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis, the undefeated champion, faced incarceration after his April bout against Ryan Garcia this year. Now that he’s out of jail, everyone is asking one question: when will the pugilist stage a comeback? Following rumors of a comeback match against Teofimo Lopez in January next year, fans are at the edge of their seat over this massive prospect.

Though these questions and speculations haven’t gone unnoticed by Tank Davis. He recently has been going on a Twitter rampage to reply to all the allegations and speculations on Twitter, and recently gave a brutal reply to a troll who questioned his boxing prowess.

Gervonta Davis was furious over a critic’s comments

Gervonta Davis recently found himself in the midst of a verbal duel. A critic dared to challenge Davis’s reputation beyond his weight class, prompting an immediate response from Tank. Gervonta is not the one to leave trolls unengaged, contrary to the widely acknowledged wisdom of not engaging with them. Criticism emerged, highlighting much discussion about his defense and stating that he doesn’t face opponents of significance. Gervonta left a threatening reply, clearly over the Twitter exchange. Shut up before I have my homie to f*ck ya little ugly a*s gf.”

Following his big win, Gervonta Davis pled guilty to four charges related to a November 2020 accident. He injured four individuals, including a pregnant woman. According to ESPN, he was initially sentenced to 90 days of home detention at his trainer Calvin Ford’s house, but Davis relocated without permission, first to a high-end hotel and then to a new residence. Davis recently got out of  Baltimore jail after spending 44 days in detention. He was incarcerated following a judge’s decision on June 1 this year stating he violated house arrest terms. Consequently, a judge ordered Davis to complete the rest of his sentence in the city’s jail.

Nevertheless, Gervonta Davis illustrates a fighter unafraid to defend his legacy and proudly acknowledges his achievements. He displays unwavering confidence.  The boxing world eagerly awaits his next move, questioning whether he will continue to defy expectations and win more titles with his unmatched skill.

Ryan Garcia steps back between the ropes later this year following his Pay Per View KO defeat to Pound for Pound star Gervonta Davis last spring.

Garcia makes his highly anticipated return in a collision of knockout power against Parral, Mexico’s Oscar Duarte.

The event occurs on Saturday, December 2nd, and is scheduled for 12 rounds in the super lightweight division.

Promoter Oscar De La Hoya looks forward to showcasing Garcia before another mammoth PPV in 2024.

Gervonta Davis vs Ryan Garcia

“This is one of the reasons fight fans love Ryan. Instead of taking baby steps back after a hard-fought fight, he is returning against a guy with lethal power who doesn’t take a step backward,” said De La Hoya.

“Whoever emerges victorious is immediately in line for a shot against any current world champions. Fans aren’t going to want to miss this one.”

At only 25 years old, “King” Ryan Garcia has skyrocketed to the top of superstardom. He has proven that he is a supreme pay-per-view attraction.

His last fight against Gervonta “Tank” Davis in April 2023 garnered more than 1.2 million pay-per-view buys. The headliner generated a $22.8 million gate at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, making it the top five best gates in Nevada boxing history.

Knockouts

One of the most dynamic and exciting boxers fighting today, his fast-paced style, killer left hook, and lengthy roster of knockouts have impressed boxing fans for years.

He has held the WBC interim lightweight title, quickly dispatching top contenders such as Olympic gold medalist Luke Campbell.

“King Ry” also holds a victory over Emmanuel Tagoe. Garcia scored a unanimous decision over his rival at the Alamodome in San Antonio last year.

The Golden Boy star wants to put on a show and dispatch his next opponent before moving to more significant tests.

“Let’s go! I am so excited to announce that I will be fighting Oscar Duarte on December 2,” said Garcia. “I’m back and feeling better and stronger than before.

“I wanted Duarte for me and the fans. He’s tough, and I’m ready to give people another show at my best weight again.

“Say whatever you want about Ryan Garcia, but I will always give the fans what they want. Love you. See you December 2 on DAZN. Location and ticketing will be announced soon.”

Garcia vs Duarte

His opponent, “La Migraña,” has become a boogeyman contender in the lightweight division. He holds hunter-killer instincts and defensive skills to match.

Unafraid to go in the pocket with any fighter, Duarte is a resilient bull who has been knocking fighters’ heads off one by one.

His sole loss was in 2019 against Adrian Estrella, which he has avenged with a string of eleven straight knockout victories, the last three including the rugged D’Angelo Keyes, the tough Alex Martin, and veteran Javier Franco.

The powerful Duarte became a professional in 2013. He also has incredible Mexican star power behind him, with award-winning actor, model, and television host Gabriel Soto co-managing his career along with Cancun Boxing.

“I feel thrilled and enthusiastic now that this fight against Ryan Garcia has been finalized. This is the opportunity of a lifetime,” said Duarte.

“I want to thank Golden Boy for giving me this great opportunity.

“I am very grateful for the support of my entire team. Everyone can expect the very best version of Oscar Duarte. I am ready to win this fight. I will lift the name of Mexico on high.”

More information on the venue, undercard, and tickets will be announced soon. California or Las Vegas could host Garcia’s next fight.

Golden Boy Promotions will stage the fight in association with Cancun Boxing. Garcia vs. Duarte will be broadcast worldwide on DAZN as part of your subscription.

Anthony Taylor has reacted to boxing star Ryan Garcia’s callout of YouTuber-turned-boxer KSI.

‘Prettyboy’ took to Garcia’s Instagram DMs to state that if KSI did not take the fight, he would happily step in to face ‘The Flash’. He said:

Garcia then responded to Taylor’s message by criticizing his boxing skills and saying that ‘Prettyboy’ had not done enough to earn a fight with him. Garcia said:

Taylor then proceeded to challenge Garcia for a fight on a Misfits card and said he would defeat the 25-year-old more impressively than Gervonta Davis did. Taylor said:

Garcia scoffed at the idea of fighting Taylor at a Misfits event. This did not sit well with ‘Prettyboy’ who went on a rant claiming he fought more often than Garcia and was just as well-known as him.

Taylor then offered to fight Garcia at 154 pounds.

Simon Jordan believes Anthony Joshua needs to score a devastating early KO of Deontay Wilder in order to earn a fight with Tyson Fury.

The talkSPORT host has insisted AJ’s been ‘left in a vacuum’ by last week’s news that Fury and Oleksandr Usyk have now signed contracts for an undisputed heavyweight world title fight in the coming months.

Earlier on the same day, Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn had confirmed that a proposed Saudi Arabia site deal to stage their planned showdown with Deontay Wilder, which he’d previously claimed was ‘locked in for December’, is now dead.

Representatives for AJ and Wilder remain in talks trying to salvage that fight in a different location in February or March.

However it’s irrefutable that Fury and Usyk have surpassed the pair by finalising their own Saudi site deal and signing it off months in advance.

Jordan said on talkSPORT’s talkBOXING Podcast: “It feels to me that this is a good day for boxing in terms of the unification fight that everyone says they want.

The two best fighters in the world right now, we’re getting what we wanted.

“But Anthony Joshua gets left in a vacuum because I’m pretty sure there is this ambition from Joshua to fight Fury.

“And if Fury were to win this fight, which I think he will, I think there’s a distinct possibility that Fury will go, ‘That’s it, I’m done.’

“He [could go], ‘I’ve beaten Wilder, I’ve beaten Usyk who beat Joshua, I’ve beaten the man who beat the man, so what have I got to do besides throw you a bone?’

“And that puts a challenge on Anthony Joshua and the only way I think Anthony Joshua corrects that is if he fights Deontay Wilder and knocks him out very convincingly, very early in the fight.

“If he does something Fury couldn’t do, then it becomes a legacy discussion.”

Jordan continued: “I don’t think Fury is gonna give Joshua any leg-up, any opportunity, unless there’s a really, really good reason.

“Right now, beating Jermaine Franklin and Robert Helenius, and just being on the periphery of it all now, is not a reason for Fury to go, ‘I’ll tell you what – I’ll bring you into the light again.'”

Regarding how AJ’s team will have reacted to the news of Fury vs Usyk being signed, Jordan added: “I think there would have probably been a collective sign in the Joshua camp.

“It would be about, ‘This could be the end of our opportunity in heavyweight boxing. If this fella goes and beats Usyk, then there’s a distinct possibility, unless we do something to counteract that, that we’re not gonna get this fight. And we want this fight.'”

Time will tell if Joshua vs Wilder, and subsequently Joshua vs Fury, do indeed come to fruition.

Following Zhilei Zhang’s incredible stoppage of Joe Joyce in London, many fans have called for him to step in against Anthony Joshua.

The two heavyweights fought on the amateur scene at the London 2012 Olympics quarter-finals, with Joshua dropping Zhang in the second round to go on and win a 15-11 points decision. He won Gold and turned professional one year later.

As things stand, Carl Froch thinks the result would be flipped in the pros. He told Best Gambling Sites that the Brit’s current form wasn’t inspiring.

Gervonta Davis

Having said that, Froch says that potential lies in the bout for Joshua, believing ‘Big Bang’s style to be the acid test as to whether or not he can return to his previous style of searching for a stoppage through accurate and punishing combinations.

Joshua has been criticised of late for fighting tentatively, something pundits believe he can’t do should he land the bout he’s chasing against Deontay Wilder. The same likely applies to Zhang, who was quick to get Joyce out of there with a thudding right hand.

News as to who and when the two-time world champion will fight next is expected soon.

Garbiñe Muguruza is taking an extended break from tennis which will see her miss the clay and grass season this year, the former French Open and Wimbledon champion said on Monday.

Muguruza, who won the French Open in 2016 and Wimbledon in 2017, has played only four matches this year, with no wins. Her last match was in February at the Lyon Open where she lost to Czech teenager Linda Noskova in the first round.

“Spending time with family and friends and it’s really been healthy and amazing, so I am going to lengthen this period till summer. Therefore I am going to miss [the] clay and grass season,” Muguruza, now ranked 132, wrote in an Instagram story.

Muguruza, 29, was ranked No. 1 in 2017 and was ranked as high as third by the end of 2021, when she won three WTA titles. But she experienced a dip in form last year where she never got past the quarterfinals at any event.

Garbine Muguruza, 29, has indicated very directly that she still doesn’t have a comeback date or target. Muguruza, a two-time Grand Slam champion, started the 2023 season with a 0-4 record before abruptly deciding to step away from tennis in February.

Since taking a break from tennis, Muguruza has been enjoying some quality time with her fiance, family and friends. This past weekend in Malaga, Diario Sur caught up with former world No 1 Muguruza and asked her if she was planning on playing at the 2024 Australian Open. “I only think about enjoying this vacation to the fullest, I haven’t thought about anything yet, it’s September and there’s a long way to go.

I’m making plans that when I was competing on the Tour I couldn’t do,” Muguruza told Diario Sur.

Muguruza took a sudden break from tennis

After going 12-17 in 2022, Muguruza started the 2023 season with a 0-4 record.

Garbine Muguruza

In February, Muguruza was scheduled to play a few tournaments in the Middle East but then abruptly withdrew from all of the tournaments where she signed up. In April, Muguruza broke her silence and revealed to her fans that she was just taking time for herself. “Spending time with family and friends and it’s really been healthy and amazing so I am going to lengthen this period till summer.

Therefore I’m going to miss the clay and gras season. Thanks for all the lovely messages and will be updating you guys,” Muguruza said in a message posted on her Instagram Story in early April. After confirming her tennis break in April, the following month Muguruza shared some major life news – she got engaged to her long-time boyfriend Arthur Borges.

“We would like it to be next year, in the summer, near the beach and in Spain, because it is the place that most unites us,” Muguruza told iHola! in May.

Simone Biles will return to the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships on Wednesday as she looks to continue her brilliant form at the competition.

The 26-year-old is set to participate in the women’s team final as the US looks to win its seventh consecutive world title in the discipline.

It’s already been an impressive competition for Biles, who made history on the opening day of championships in Antwerp, Belgium.

On Sunday, she finished first in the women’s all-around qualification and became the first woman to land the Yurchenko double pike vault – a high-difficulty skill historically only done by men – at an international competition.

Simone Biles

It is Biles’ first competition back on the world stage since the Tokyo 2020 Games when she pulled out of several events suffering from what is known as the “twisties” – a mental block causing a gymnast to lose track of their positions in midair.

Since then, she has once again displayed all the qualities that have carried her to the pinnacle of the sport, coming back to win a record eighth national all-around title.

And by competing in Antwerp, Biles became the first woman to represent the US at six artistic world championships.

The seven-time Olympic medalist will be joined by US teammates Skye Blakey, Shilese Jones, Joscelyn Roberson and Leanne Wong for the team final on Wednesday.

How to watch

The world championships began on September 30 and will run until October 8.

On Wednesday, Biles will be part of the USA’s five-woman team competing in the final of the team event.

Biles will also take part in the women’s individual all-around final on Friday, before the women’s vault and uneven bars finals on October 7 and the balance beam and floor exercise finals the following day.

NBC will broadcast coverage in the US, while the BBC will show the finals in the UK.

All three days of qualifying were broadcast on the International Gymnastics Federation’s streaming hub, All Gymnastics TV. The finals will also be available in some countries on the platform.

Full-circle moment

In 2013, Biles made her world championships debut in Antwerp, winning the all-round and floor exercise gold, as well as vault silver and beam bronze.

In the 10 years since that moment, she has accumulated 25 world championship medals – 19 gold, three silver and three bronze – in total.

She last competed at the world championships in 2019, winning five gold medals – a feat she could replicate in Belgium.

Biles is already the most decorated gymnast in US history, winning 32 medals across the Olympics and the world championships.

Ever since the sporting limelight discovered Simone Biles, her life has been devoted exclusively to gymnastics. The 2013-turned-elite kept her life limited to a small circle of people. However, things changed when her relationship with the WWE superstar made headlines during her professional gap year in 2017. Their relationship lasted for three years until they finally broke it off leaving behind a sour taste. However, over time the athletes had grown familiar and shared close bonds with each other’s friends.
