Simone Biles touched down in Antwerp on 30th September, ready to reclaim the world gymnastics stage. She made a stunning entrance to the Sportpaleis on the very first day of podium training at the 2023 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. After making a comeback with back-to-back victories at the national competition in her homeland, Biles led the charge during the qualifiers.

In an epic battle, she spearheaded Team USA to secure their seventh consecutive World Gymnastics Championship title. As if that wasn’t impressive enough, Biles also claimed her sixth World Championship All-Around title.

On the last day of the competition, October 8th, she added two more gold medals to her collection, excelling in the floor exercise and balance beam finals. Even after facing a heartbreaking fall, she secured a silver medal at the vault finals. Biles proved to be a formidable force, but among the contenders, one athlete kept her on her toes. And most recently, Biles opened up, sharing her unfiltered thoughts about her formidable contender and legend to be.

Simone Biles addresses her major competition

After lifting another victory in Antwerp, Biles opened up about her competitor and the rising legend in an interview. When asked about having Brazilian gymnast Rebeca Andrade as competition, Biles responded, “No definitely, even on floor I was “Ooh I’m a little nervous” or on beam and stuff like that. They’re amazing athletes so you can only wish that everybody puts the best foot forward that day. So yeah, I love having her.”

Rebeca Andrade, along with her coach Francisco Porath, has been cautious in the years following her third ACL tear. Despite multiple ACL tears in 2015, 2017, and 2019, she persevered in the sport. In 2022, she only performed on-the-floor exercise twice before the World Championships, and even then, she chose routines with lower difficulty and won the All-Around title and the Vault finals. At the 2023 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, Rebeca Andrade kept Biles on her toes.

Biles passes the torch to Rebeca Andrade

The 24-year-old Brazilian gymnast emerged as Biles’ most formidable competitor. In the vault finals, Andrade broke Biles’ winning streak for 2023 by taking the gold with a score of 14.75, while Biles, despite a heartbreaking fall, secured the silver with a score of 14.549. Throughout the competition, Andrade consistently finished just behind Simone Biles, winning silver in the team all-around finals, individual all-around finals, floor exercise finals, and bronze on the balance beam.

Biles took home the gold in all these events. On the last day, while standing on the podium with Rebeca Andrade and her teammate Flavia Saraiva, after winning the floor routine, Biles made a symbolic gesture. She removed her crown and placed it on Rebeca’s head, signifying that she was passing the torch to the Brazilian as the “upcoming queen.

Garbine Muguruza has announced she’s taking an extended break from the tennis tour and will miss the French Open and Wimbledon as a result. The Spaniard, who won the French Open in 2016 and Wimbledon in 2017, has only played four matches in 2023 – losing all four.

She went down to Elise Mertens in the first round at the Australian Open in January, and hasn’t played since a loss to Czech teenager Linda Noskova at the Lyon Open in February. On Monday, the 29-year-old revealed to fans that she’s stepping away from tennis for the time being and will skip the clay and grass-court seasons.

Spending time with family and friends and it’s really been healthy and amazing so I am going to lengthen this period till summer,” she wrote on Instagram. “Therefore I am going to miss clay and grass season. Thanks for all the lovely messages and will be updating you guys.”

Muguruza famously beat Serena Williams in the final at Roland Garros in 2016 to claim her first grand slam title. She shot to World No.1 in 2017 off the back of her Wimbledon triumph, and was still ranked third at the end of 2021 – a year in which she won three WTA titles.

However she suffered a dip in form last year, and never got past the quarter-finals at any event in 2022. She sounded optimistic about being able to turn her fortunes around in Abu Dhabi in February, before withdrawing from the event and disappearing from the tour.

“With tennis, one week it can go wrong, then next week it can go well, then everything changes again,” she said. “I think experience helps me to stay calm in the not-so-good moments when I haven’t been playing as well or results haven’t followed.”

Tennis world reacts to news about Garbine Muguruza

The 29-year-old pulled out of the recent WTA 1000 events at Indian Wells and Miami, and gave no clue as to when she might return. Tennis fans and commentators were taken aback by the news of her extended break on Monday.

Many said they were happy to hear she has found what she’s looking for off-court, but others were left saddened that they won’t be seeing her at the French Open or Wimbledon. Aussie great Rennae Stubbs commented: “If you’re good enough in ANY sport, you can take a break and come back. If you are good enough you can make it back, either on the tennis tour or playing for a team. If you play well enough when you come back, you will succeed and a team will want you

A former Wimbledon champion and world number one seems to have taken up a new career as a Zumba expert.

Garbine Muguruza was recently spotted taking part in a new edition of ZIN Academy – which was held at the Martín Carpena Palace in Malaga last Saturday.

The 29-year-old, who has already posted several clips of her practicing Zumba over the years, was seen on stage dancing to ‘Vagabundo’ by Sebastian Yatra.

More than 500 people attended the event in Spain as they gathered to dance and learn new choreographies – with Muguruza looking like she enjoyed every second of it as she takes a break from the sport of tennis.

She revealed that players have to work on containing their emotions in tennis, while it is the complete opposite in Zumba.

‘The difference between my usual training and Zumba is that in tennis you work on containing your emotions, being focused and not making mistakes,’ she said.

‘However, in Zumba, it is the opposite. It doesn’t matter if you make a mistake, you let yourself be carried away by the music and your emotions come to the foreground.’

The event in Malaga combined fitness and fun, with dancer being able to express themselves for 10 hours in a world of ‘learning and entertainment.’

Last Saturday’s event was lead by the brand’s founder, Beto Perez – who is well-known for his energy and choreography.

It’s not the first time the Spaniard has been filmed doing Zumba. The tennis star has posted videos of her dancing regularly on social media.

Back in July, the 29-year-old said that she plans to return to action next year following a ‘sabbatical.’

Speaking at the Chamartin Tennis Club, where she received the Gold Medal for Sports Merit, the Spaniard said: ‘I’m enjoying this sabbatical, I think it’s good to stop but it’s not a definitive goodbye.

‘I want to prepare myself to come back, when I’m ready I’ll go back to the courts.’

The Spaniard has not stepped foot on the court since her straight sets defeat to Linda Noskova at the Lyon Open back in January.

The two-time Grand Slam winner has not tasted success in a major competition since her victory at Wimbledon in 2017.

She defeated Venus Williams at the Wimbledon final in 2017 – two years after her first major Grand Slam victory.

Her first win in a Grand Slam came in 2015 when she defeated Serena Williams at the French Open final.

While the former world No 1 will be itching to get back onto the court, it seems as if she is currently enjoying life outside of the sport.

Andy Ruiz Jr will forever be the man who snatched Anthony Joshua’s undefeated record along with his unified world heavyweight titles.

That night in New York back in 2019 represents one of the biggest heavyweight upsets in the sport, and many feel it affected Joshua as a fighter even despite him comfortably winning the rematch less than six months later.

Since then, the Brit has lost his belts to Oleksandr Usyk conclusively, unable to do the same in their second fight. He has found himself on the comeback trail and, for him and his team, all roads apparently lead to Deontay Wilder.

Despite positive talks earlier in the year, an offer from Saudi Arabia to stage the fight has recently been taken off the table and the contest is up in the air.

Ruiz Jr believes it won’t happen – not because of the business side of things, but because his former foe is scared. He told Fight Hub TV he backs Wilder to win should it ever materialise.

Ruiz has been angling for his shot at the hard-hitting ‘Bronze Bomber’ for some time now, but he has been accused of demanding too much money.

It’s something he disputes as he continues to push for the fight, but Wilder’s team claim there’s little chance of it happening.

The two former champions represent a frustrating stagnancy on the heavyweight scene, and fans would like to see them out regardless of who fills the opposite corner.

Former cruiserweight and heavyweight champion, David Haye, has disclosed some behind the scenes details from a sparring session between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua.

The two Brits have been linked to a historic clash ever since ‘The Gypsy King’ returned to the ring in 2018, although to the frustrations of fans, the bout has failed to materialise on a few occasions.

The vast majority of the boxing world now has Fury has a strong favourite should it happen, given he has remained an undefeated champion whilst Joshua’s campaign faltered in the form of two losses to Oleksandr Usyk.

However, in a resurface interview with The Sun, Haye said that he believes Joshua to be the only man capable of dethroning the 35-year-old and that when the pair sparred in the past it was ‘AJ’ who enjoyed more success.

Back in 2010, even Tyson Fury admitted that he was surprised by the skill of the then 20-year-old Joshua, who had been told he could keep Fury’s Rolex if he could knock him out, admitting that ‘AJ’ gave him a ‘beating’ for three rounds.

Unfortunately, sparring stories are as close as fans will get to the fight, at least for now.

In the meantime, Fury will attempt to do what Joshua couldn’t against Oleksandr Usyk. Should he win he will become the first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis in 2000.

The fight will take place in Saudi Arabia, with a date to be announced.

It’s been a while since Gervonta Davis was released from prison. The fighter spent a total of 44 days behind bars after he failed to comply with the court’s home detention orders. The court sentenced the fighter to a 90-day home detention at his trainer, Calvin Ford’s house. However, as per records, he moved to a luxury hotel and to a new home, prompting him to spend the rest of his sentence at the Baltimore jail.

Ever since his release, the fighter has embarked on a journey of healing and building back what he lost.

Gervonta Davis Back to the Horizon, Fans Concur

Amidst his strenuous court hearings, ‘Tank’ Davis undertook the most important fight of his career to date. In his bout against Ryan Garcia at the T-Mobile Arena of Las Vegas, he emerged victorious through a scathing knockout. However, this April fight of his was the last. A fighter in his ultimate prime disappeared from the ring, and the realm was not happy.

Now that Tank’s sentence in the case has elapsed, a new uproar echoes through the boxing world: questions about his return to the ring. As conjectures surface, the fighter said, “Trill never changes, that’s why I learned to embrace it..Revenge how I show my anger, my facial expression ain’t changin!” His ability to bounce back from his legal shortcomings has instilled a sense of resilience in him. His post etched with these words featuring him in the backdrop of his car has sparked a conversation among well-wishers.

There a host of mouth watering all American fights to be made amongst the lightweight and super lightweight division, which are both amongst the strongest in the sport.

Fans are being treated to one such clash in December, when WBC 140lbs champion Regis Prograis will defend his strap against former undisputed 135lbs champion Devin Haney.

However, in a recent interview with ESNews, Prograis broke down a different stateside affair – a potential showdown between Gervonta Davis and Teofimo Lopez – and explained why he would favour Davis to get the better of ‘The Takeover’ if the fight ever happened.

Following his stoppage win over Ryan Garcia back in April, Davis’ star power is bigger than his ever been, and the though of all American derbies against the likes of Haney and Stevenson has fans salivating.

His momentum was slowed somewhat by a brief jail stint over the summer, however he is now back in the gym and said to be angling for a return to the ring in early 2024.

The rumoured frontrunners to land the money spinning fight are PBC stablemates Frank Martin and Isaac Cruz, with the latter being one of only two men to take Davis the distance.

Lopez is riding the crest of a wave at the moment after becoming a two weight world champion earlier this year, and a marquee match up between him and former Davis opponent Garcia has been tipped to land in the first half of 2024

Max Verstappen’s heroics have been masking Red Bull’s true car performance this year, believes one Formula 1 pundit.

The Dutchman has won 14 of 17 races so far this season and, with five more Grand Prix weekends to go, has already made sure of the drivers’ title. He has almost double the points scored by team-mate Sergio Perez, the gap between them standing at 209.

Red Bull have had the quickest car on the grid all year long. Yet, the disparity between the results secured by Verstappen and Perez over the course of the campaign means, according to former F1 driver Giedo van der Garde, it is had to assess the true pace of the team’s machines.

Max makes Red Bull better,” the Dutch pundit told RacingNews365. “If he had been with another team, that team would have achieved more victories and it is certain that Max would have won in a different car. He would also compete for the title, but the how, what, where and when is just difficult to estimate.

“But one thing is clear: he is currently the best driver on the grid, otherwise you would not become world champion three times. There is still room for improvement, but I can’t point out where. Everything is almost perfect already.

“He is almost a machine, I see that he does everything perfectly. Whether it is a start or a qualifying lap or working out strategy with his engineer, he has everything under control. He simply has a certain gift – and the capacity to think about other things [while driving].

“The guy is so good and I sometimes think we forget to mention that it all looks very easy – but I know how difficult it is. I know what you have to do and driving such a perfect qualifying lap, like he did at Suzuka, is so incredibly difficult and when you see that lap, then you really think, ‘Wow, this guy!'”

Verstappen’s dominance this season makes it look difficult for any of his rivals on the grid to compete with him any time soon. If any of them can do it, former F1 team owner Eddie Jordan believes rookie superstar Oscar Piastri is the most likely.

“Piastri is just fabulous,” the Irishman told TalkSPORT. “He is the only real one that I can see emerging that could take it to Verstappen in years to come… I have to say I have the height of respect for this kid and I think he’s got a massive future. Let’s see what happens.”

Carlos Sainz believes that only Ferrari can challenge Red Bull for the Drivers’ and Constructor Championships next season with Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton not mentioned as potential challengers.

Ferrari endured a disappointing start to the 2023 season as they struggled to extract performance from the unpredictable SF-23, frustrating the Tifosi with inconsistent displays compared to their lightning-fast start to 2022.

The Scuderia failed to go the distance in their fight with Red Bull in 2022 but they remain the only team to have consistently challenged Max Verstappen in the fight for race wins and World Championships since the regulation changes came into effect at the end of the 2021 season.

Speaking to the Spanish media about Ferrari’s championship hopes for 2024, Sainz explained: “I am always optimistic before the season starts,” he told Spanish press at a sponsors event.’

Lewis Hamilton

“I was also optimistic last year and we stumbled. You have to be. I think that if you look at the last two years, the only ones who have been able to stand up to Red Bull a little have been the Ferrari, in the first half of last year and now with the victory in Singapore and the podium in Monza.

“Since there are these new regulations Red Bull is unbeatable, but if there is someone who can win from time to time to Red Bull, it’s us. I think I’m in the best place to try again next year but there are still six races left and we still have to focus on what we can improve to arrive prepared.”

If Sainz’s prediction proves true then this spells bad news for Hamilton and Mercedes. The 38-year-old is still chasing his record-breaking eighth World Championship but has been unable to fight for wins in the ground-effect era as his team continue to struggle.

George Russell’s first career win in Brazil last season remains the Silver Arrows’ only triumph of the new regulation period, and they have yet to record a victory in 2023. Ferrari and Sainz, meanwhile, claimed their first of the year in Singapore last month.

The two teams are separated by just 28 points heading into the final five races of the season, but Ferrari have looked the stronger of the pair on balance since the summer break, raising concerns about Mercedes’ prospects in 2024.

In a world of overnight sensations, few clips truly captivate. But twitter unearthed a gem. From 2016, a video resurfaced. It wasn’t of a viral dance or a fleeting meme. Instead, it showcased a young boxer. Just 10 years old at the time, Curmel Moton wasn’t your average kid. Under glaring lights, Moton’s gloves danced with precision, his feet followed an intricate rhythm. The venue? A boxing gym.

The companion? None other than the legendary trainer, Floyd Mayweather Sr. This wasn’t a casual training session. It was a display of discipline, dedication, and raw talent. Why was a child of just a decade in such elite company? Why was he not trading blows with school friends or grappling with video games?

Curmel Moton is boxing’s newest sensation

Curmel Moton

Curmel Moton’s ascent in the boxing world became undeniable following his stunning pro debut win against Ezequiel Flores. In Las Vegas’ shimmering T-Mobile Arena, the prodigy dazzled everyone with an unmatched zeal, toppling Flores in a bout many had anticipated would be more challenging. Such victories, while impressive, aren’t born overnight. They’re sculpted from years of dedication and hard work.

Segueing from this triumphant debut, the old footage posted provides an insightful flashback. The video showcases a young Moton, just a 10-year-old then, intensely working with Floyd Mayweather Sr. on pads. His focus, even at that tender age, spoke of a future champion. This wasn’t just a child amusingly trying his hand at boxing; it was a future pro honing his craft.

Fans, upon viewing this video, couldn’t help but express their admiration and awe. One fan noted the innate talent Moton possessed, emphasizing that some individuals seem destined for their path.

Another fan highlighted Moton’s commitment to the boxing life, expressing excitement about his future matches and the hope to see more of him on broadcast.

Curmel Moton’s journey is a testament to the adage: champions are made, not born. From those early training days with Mayweather Sr. to eventually his undeniable prowess in the ring against Flores, Moton’s path has been nothing short of inspirational.
