Simone Biles’ remarkable comeback in 2023 has cemented her status as one of the “greatest of all time” in the world of sports. She has had back-to-back victories in the women’s qualifications at the World Championships and the women’s team final at the 2023 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Antwerp. Biles has graced and aced the stage leaving her fans in awe. However, her favorite fan seems to be missing all the action.

Back in Houston, more than 5,000 miles away from Antwerp, Ronni Biles aka Baby Biles, has been diligently supporting her aunt in the most adorable way. Just a few weeks ago, Simone and Simone’s sister-in-law, Sammi Biles, shared a heartwarming picture of Ronni. She wore a matching leotard with her aunt. It was the same as the one worn at the National Championships. Now, as her beloved Aunt “TT” continues to make history in Antwerp, Baby Biles has shared yet another heart-warming surprise that has set the gymnastics community abuzz

In a recent Instagram story, Sammi Biles posted a video of Baby Biles in her crib, playfully engaging with her dad, Ron Biles II. Two colorful rings, the same ones used in men’s gymnastics as an apparatus, dangled above her crib. Baby Biles, attempted to lift herself up on these rings, a sight that touched the hearts of many. Sammi accompanied the video with a touching caption, “watching TT & wanting to be like her,” tagging Biles.

In her subsequent story, she shared another video, still in the crib with the rings, and added, “Covid may have taken over our household, but little miss is a fighter.” This update referred to recent health concerns as Baby Biles had to be taken to the ER due to symptoms of the “cold, flu, rsv season.” Sammi also expressed her pride in TT, Biles, Joscelyn Roberson, and Cécile Landi for their dedication and remarkable success, giving a special shout-out to the WCC team. This video came shortly after Simone Biles, part of Team USA, led the charge in Antwerp during the World Championships Team Finals, securing the gold.

Team USA women take on the world

Team USA women secured their seventh consecutive women’s team world title with a total score of 167.729 points, beating Brazil and France. Biles showcased her mastery, scoring high in the vault, bars, and beam, ending with a remarkable 15.166 on the floor.

Biles, the undisputed queen, now has 26 world championship medals, equaling Vitaly Scherbo’s record. Her journey in Antwerp continues as she aims for her sixth All-Around World Championships title on October 6 and fans await her magic yet again.

Simone Biles has done it yet again, clinching her 20th gold medal at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championship and leading the U.S. women’s team to their historic 7th consecutive victory.

There is no question that Simone Biles is the greatest gymnast that has ever set foot on the mat. Her domination in the sport has been unparalleled, and she has earned every bit of praise she has received as a gymnast.

However, there’s a solid argument to be made that she isn’t just the GOAT of gymnastics, but truly the greatest athlete of all time. Yes, I know, it’s a subjective title, comparing sports is like comparing apples and oranges and people will argue about who deserves that title the most. But hear me out before putting Michael Jordan or Muhammad Ali or Jim Thorpe up against the 4-foot 8-inch wonder that is Simone Biles.

Here are 5 reasons she deserves the GOAT title:

1. She has dominated her sport with the winningest record of all time

This is the easy argument, of course, and one that could be used for any athlete who holds the most gold medals and the most medals overall in their sport. Let’s just see this as the foundation of the GOAT house that Simone built.

Biles has now won 26 world championship medals (20 gold, three silver and three bronze) and seven Olympic medals. That puts her at the top of women’s gymnastics historical record and has her tied with Belarus’ Vitaly Scherbo for most gymnastics medals, male or female, earned on the world stage.

2. She can do things no one else in her sport can do

Simone Biles

There’s winning championships, and then there’s pushing your sport forward by inventing new moves or succeeding in feats no one has ever attempted, much less achieved, before.

Biles has done that, not once, not twice, not thrice, but a whopping five times. This single gymnast has five official moves named after her in the international rule book (one on balance beam, two on floor exercise and two on vault). She is pushing the boundaries of the sport like no one else ever has.

Every sport has had individuals who excel at a unique skill. Many of those individuals aren’t also world champions. Most of them don’t have multiple moves that bear their name because no one else has ever done them. Biles has done it all.

3. She stands out as an individual competitor and as a team leader

Gymnastics is both an individual sport and a team sport, and Biles has proven her skills in both. As an individual competitor, obviously, Biles is No. 1. But she has also led the U.S. Women’s Gymnastics team to victory time and time again.

Biles’ teammates praised her leadership skills after she backed out of the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 (which we’ll get to in a moment). Though she was no longer competing herself, she stood on the sidelines and became her teammates’ best cheerleader. Her teammates and coaches said that meant the world, and Biles’ unwavering encouragement and support for her fellow gymnasts helped propel them to their own medal-winning performances.

To be able to dominate at the highest level as an individual and be an effective team leader is the mark of an exceptional athlete. Biles does both and makes it look easy.

4. She faced a devastating setback in her sport and came back on top

It’s not easy to maintain the status of being “the best” at a sport. Being the best and then having a major setback disrupt your career is even more difficult. Overcoming that setback and returning not only to a high level of competition but jumping back up to the very top is something only GOATs do.

Biles did it. After getting the dreaded “twisties” at the Tokyo Olympics, Biles did the right thing and dropped out of the competition. (The twisties cause a gymnast to lose their sense of place in the air, creating both a frustrating and incredibly dangerous situation.) She could have called it quits then and no one would have blamed her.

But she didn’t. She came back. And unlike some other star athletes who have pushed past their prime and lost some of their competitive edge, Biles is slaying once again, winning world titles like she was born for it.

She balances it with wisdom, but her competitive spirit is unstoppable.

5. She is well past retirement age and still dominating in her sport

Biles is 26 years old, which isn’t old by most measures, but she’s a bit of a grandma in the world of gymnastics. The average age for elite female gymnasts to retire is 22. There are other competitive gymnasts who are older than Biles, but they aren’t up there on the world championship podium with her. The main reason gymnasts retire so early is the wear and tear gymnastics puts on their bodies. Biles continually pushes her body to do what no one else can do, and she’s still going strong.

Her ability is unparalleled but her longevity is equally impressive. Peak time varies by sport, of course, but for a gymnast to be this dominant for this long is an incredible accomplishment.

The 26th seeded Belgian came back from a set behind to send the 2020 finalist packing by winning the match 3-6 7-6(3) 6-1

Two-time Grand Slam winner and former world number one Garbine Muguruza crashed out of the Australian Open after losing in first round of women’s singles to Elise Martens. The 26th seeded Belgian came back from a set behind to send the 2020 finalist packing by winning the match 3-6, 7-6(3), 6-1.

Muguruza started well by taking the first set without much difficulty but in the second the Mertens started to show her mettle. The second round was decided in a tie-break where the 27-year-old prevailed.

She carried the momentum into the decider by beating the former French Open and Wimbledon champion 6-1.

In other results, fourth seed Caroline Garcia cruised into the second round with a 6-3 6-0 win over Canadian qualifier Katherine Sebov. Home favourite Kimberly Birrell, who was granted a main-draw spot after Venus Williams pulled out, produced a stunning comeback to beat 31st seed Kaia Kanepi 3-6 7-6(4) 6-1.

Two-time Grand Slam champion Garbine Muguruza says she’s taking an extended break from the sport and will miss the clay and grass-court seasons.

The Spaniard pulled out of the Abu Dhabi event in February, coting personal reasons, and in a social media post on Monday, explained that she would continue to take time to recover.

Considering that both her Grand Slam titles came on clay and grass – at the French Open in 2016 and Wimbledon in 2017 – it’s a big statement by Muguruza.

The former world No 1 has lost all four of her matches in 2023, including a first-round exit at the Australian Open.

Promoter Eddie Hearn says there’s a new opponent in the running to face Anthony Joshua following lengthy talks for a Deontay Wilder fight.

After an offer to stage the fight in Saudi Arabia was taken off the table, Hearn has remained adamant that the team behind Joshua are still doing all they can to make the match-up against the hard-hitting American heavyweight.

Having said that, another fight signed for Saudi may have changed things.

Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk recently announced that they will be putting their belts on the line in an undisputed event that could take place as early as December 23.

With that news, the IBF has ruled that the winner must immediately face its mandatory challenger, Filip Hrgovic. Because of the reports of a rematch clause for the loser in the Fury-Usyk bout, a fight against the Croatian is unlikely to take place.

Gervonta Davis

In that case, the belt will become vacant and Hrgovic will fight the next top contender for it – currently Joshua at number three. Hearn told Boxing Social that it ‘changes things’ for his charge.

Asked to weigh up the benefits of each potential match-up, the promoter seemed to lean towards Hrgovic despite it being a lesser spectacle.

Otto Wallin recently beat Murat Gassiev in an eliminator for the IBF’s top spot behind Hrgovic, and the Swedish southpaw will go ahead of Joshua in the next rankings update.

Whether or not Hearn can organise a fight with Hrgovic – who he co-promotes alongside Wasserman Boxing – in the meantime remains to be seen.

Many in the sport believe that Anthony Joshua’s days of fire-fights and quick knockouts are over.

Pundits point to the Olympic Gold Medalist’s stoppage loss to Andy Ruiz Jr in New York back in 2019 as the moment ‘AJ’ switched his style up and began to box tentatively.

Following two losses to Oleksandr Usyk and a second switch of trainer, Joshua has again been labelled a tentative fighter after his performances this year against Jermaine Franklin and Robert Helenius.

Whilst the man himself says he’s just becoming a smarter operator, others believe he’s gun-shy because of a fear of what’s coming back at him.

Billy Joe Saunders is in that camp. Speaking on Up Front with Simon Jordan, the two-weight world champion said Joshua ‘lets himself down.’

Anthony Joshua

Asked if he thinks Joshua is ‘done’ and if he isn’t willing to put himself in jeopardy inside the ropes any longer, Saunders agreed.

The true test of Joshua’s mentality could come against Deontay Wilder – the American heavyweight with 42 knockouts from 43 wins.

Whilst the fight is struggling to get over the line, the Brit’s team is clear in that it’s still the opponent he wants next. If that’s not the case, there’s a chance he is back out in December.

You might associate Formula 1 with Lewis Hamilton but Hamilton cannot be just associated with Formula 1. In fact, in the past few years, Hamilton has dipped his toes in multiple businesses and ventures across multiple fields. However, long before Hamilton became an entrepreneur he gave back to his community. In fact, he has made the biggest charitable contribution in the sport’s history with a whopping $25 million donation to Mission 44. Now, his initiative and contribution are bearing fruit and he couldn’t be more proud.

For the unaware, after seeing a lack of diversity in F1 Hamilton took the initiative and funded a study to find out the root cause. The cause was the lack of STEM learning which gave birth to Mission 44, the charitable organisation. Now both the Hamilton Commission and Mission 44 work hand in hand to increase diversity in motorsport. The two organizations had something to celebrate this week.

Hamilton’s racing team X44 Vida Carbon Racing team’s engineer, a champion of STEM learning and Hamilton’s Commission’s board Member George Imafidon received one of England’s highest honour. The Brit had the honor of becoming a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for his services to the community, an honor he shares with Hamilton now.

The Mercedes man was extremely proud to see his fellow man’s efforts being recognised and she showcased that by sharing the post on his story. Hamilton also wrote a 3 word comment which would mean a lot. He commented, “Proud of you” on the post.

Lewis Hamilton

One of Hamilton’s team members with the same ideologies and efforts getting recognized is a win for the entire team. Surely, this relentless approach is making motorsport more diverse and inclusive is instilled by Hamilton himself. An approach he takes with everything he does and the reason why he has a host of incredible organizations on board supporting his efforts.

Lewis Hamilton used his influence to get a major Mercedes partner on board with his philanthropic efforts

As we already know, after Hamilton initiated the Mission 44 charitable organization, the Brit also got his team on board as a sponsor. However, as it turns out, it was just the start. The Brit used his influence to swoop a four-year sponsorship deal with one of Mercedes’s biggest sponsors UBS. The boost to Mission 44’s efforts was celebrated all across social media and in an official announcement shared by Hamilton as well.

Max Verstappen is hoping to win his third consecutive Drivers’ Championship this weekend when he takes to the track in Qatar, and he could even be triumphant before Sunday’s race is even underway. If the Dutchman finishes in the top six of Saturday’s sprint then he will reign victorious.

Verstappen’s success means that Lewis Hamilton has endured another season without truly competing for the title, and the Mercedes star has now altered his expectations. Despite his previous seven championships, the Brit now feels that simply topping the podium would be his ‘greatest triumph’.

He told Swiss publication Blick: “We’ll be coming back. We can do it. The next step to the top podium will come. And it will probably be my greatest triumph in my career.”

With Red Bull also winning the constructors’ championship, Mercedes are also hopeful of remaining in second place this season. They hold a 20-point lead over Ferrari as it stands, though other teams – such as McClaren – are hoping to pounce in what remains of the season.

Lewis Hamilton has commended Max Verstappen for a “faultless” season as the Dutchman closes on a third successive drivers’ title; watch all sessions from the Qatar GP on Sky Sports F1, with qualifying Friday and the Sprint Saturday, when Verstappen could become champion

Lewis Hamilton has praised Max Verstappen for a “phenomenal” 2023 campaign and says the Red Bull driver and his team have “raised the bar” in Formula 1.

Verstappen is on the brink of winning his third successive drivers’ title going into this weekend’s Qatar Grand Prix, with the Dutchman likely to complete his triumph in Saturday’s Sprint.

Since controversially losing out to Verstappen in their fierce 2021 title contest, seven-time world champion Hamilton has rarely offered up praise for his rival.

Asked what Verstappen’s triumph will do for his standing in the sport, Mercedes’ Hamilton said: “I wouldn’t rank him. I think ranking people is an opinion-based thing.

“I think he’s earned his position, he’s done an amazing job with the package that he has.

“Him and the team have been phenomenal this year, faultless, and I think they’ve raised the bar.

“As a team we have to look at that, and say, ‘ok, these are the areas that we need to develop to be able to match that and compete’.

“I do hope at some stage we can fight them and actually have them in a defending position, but they should definitely enjoy the moment because they’ve worked for it.”

Meanwhile Fernando Alonso, another multiple champion and legendary driver in his own right, said on Thursday he had “big respect” for Verstappen’s year.

“Big congratulations on any incredible season breaking so many records,” said the 2005-2006 champion.

“When you win so many races, and they were not easy races. Sometimes they were tricky with weather conditions we went through.”

Lewis Hamilton

Asked if Verstappen could yet be compared to other F1 greats he had raced closely against such as quadruple champion Sebastian Vettel and seven-time title winners Hamilton and Michael Schumacher, Alonso replied: “I think honestly I’ve only been wheel-to-wheel with Michael…”

Pressed if he could therefore compare Verstappen to Schumacher, Alonso replied: “Maybe. We have to wait and see. I think the next few years will be even better for Max, to be honest. He will keep adding championships so we will compare to Michael even closer in the future.”

Hamilton: Wearing rainbow helmet in 2021 was nerve-wracking

When Formula 1 debuted in Qatar in 2021, Hamilton showed his support for the LGBTQ+ community by wearing a crash helmet with the Progress Pride flag on it.

The Brit admitted on Thursday that he found wearing the helmet “nerve-wracking” in a country where same-sex relations are illegal.

Hamilton, who has repeatedly used his platform to raise awareness around human rights issues, says that “every single person could be doing more” to improve the situation, as Qatar begins a 10-year deal to host F1.

“I think it’s always good and well raising awareness for things, but it’s more about the work that’s done in the background, the conversations that you continue to have to have,” he said.

“It’s such a big machine to shift as well, it’s not only the people here, it’s a whole country – that’s very young, particularly in this part of the world.

It’s taken the west a long, long time to get to where they are, so I think all we can do is just try to be positive when we do come to these places, and do take the opportunity, so that’s why I continue to.

“With the flag here, I was really proud of 2021. It was also nerve-wracking because I didn’t know how the country would react, but it’s amazing when I do meet people who are incredibly grateful for utilising the platform for something like that.

“As a sport we have to continue to work our inclusivity, diversity continues to be an issue.”

Can a boxer go up three weight classes and defeat one of the greatest fighters in recent history? While it seems pretty unlikely, the former two-class world champion and boxing commentator Tim Bradley believes it’s possible, when asked about the potential super clash between Terence Crawford and Saúl Álvarez.

Canelo defended his undisputed super middleweight crown in style against Jermell Charlo last weekend at T-Mobile, Las Vegas, getting a clear unanimous win decision.

The Mexican was the favorite going into the fight against Mell, as he was fighting in his natural weight division and his opponent had to transform his body and was inactive since May 2022.

Although he has been very criticized for his previous performances against Dmitry Bivol, Caleb Plant, Gennady Golovkin, and John Ryder, Álvarez displayed all of his aggressiveness and punching power to knock his rival down and ultimately get his hand raised.

Bradley picks Crawford to beat Canelo

Although Canelo wasn’t able to get the job done via knockout against Charlo, he managed to offer a good image inside the ring in a fight he dominated from the initial bell.

Terence Crawford

Now, most of fans expect Canelo to face either David Benavidez or Terence Crawford next. Those two are probably the two most-anticipated fights for Álvarez, and while a clash with The Mexican Monster would be hugely accepted by the boxing community, a bout with Crawford would undoubtedly be a great match.

The current pound-for-pound No. 1 would have to go from 147 to 168 lbs to challenge Canelo, but a win for the American would be one of the biggest ones the sport has ever seen and would make him undisputed champion in three weight divisions.

Tim Bradley feels that Bud would get the better of Canelo if he managed to execute the gameplan he used against Errol Spence Jr. in July.

“I think Crawford will be a lot better on the inside than Canelo. Although Canelo is strong, I think that Crawford can be able to maneuver and push him in certain ways and get certain shots off, whereas a guy like Charlo didn’t have that ability” Bradley said to Fighthype.

“If he can go up to 168 and beat that Canelo Alvarez, that’s historical stuff, and I think that Crawford is willing to do it. He’s that crazy. I would back him because I think he’s different, and I know some of you will be like, ‘He’s your friend. You’re going to back him”, he added.
