Carlos Takam believes Francis Ngannou’s power stacks up to Anthony Joshua.

‘The Predator’ is set to make his boxing debut later this month in Saudi Arabia. There, he will face Tyson Fury in a pay-per-view non-title affair. Ahead of the bout, Ngannou is expected to be a massive underdog.

Furthermore, ‘The Gypsy King’ is so sure of his impending victory, that he’s booked a December bout with Oleksandr Usyk. To help spring the massive upset, Ngannou famously brought in Mike Tyson to coach him.

Furthermore, he’s working and sparring with names such as Carlos Takam regularly. The 42-year-old was even seen at Ngannou’s open workout earlier this month. There, the two did some very light sparring, showing the PFL fighter’s technical ability.

During a recent interview with The Mayweather Channel, Takam was asked to compare Ngannou’s power to Anthony Joshua. ‘AJ’ famously defeated the heavyweight contender in 2017, by a highly controversial tenth-round stoppage.

In the interview, Takam indicated that the two were comparable punchers, stating:

Francis Ngannou is fully prepared to throw a wrench into Tyson Fury’s plans.

‘The Gypsy King’ recently booked a late December bout with Oleksandr Usyk. The fight with ‘The Cat’ will determine the first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis did so over two decades ago.

However, that’s only if Fury will be able to get through the fight unscathed. As of now, the WBC heavyweight champion is expected to do exactly that. Furthermore, Fury’s father has predicted that the bout will be the easiest of his entire boxing career.

Nonetheless, Francis Ngannou is ready to cause some havoc. Backed by Mike Tyson, one can’t blame the former UFC heavyweight champion for feeling confident. On X, ‘The Predator’ reacted to Tyson Fury’s recent fight announcement.

In a post, Ngannou questioned how Fury would be able to fight Usyk, considering his impending medical suspension. While he’s a big underdog as of now, the former UFC champion isn’t lying down heading into his boxing debut later this month.

Garbine Muguruza has had a disappointing start to the 2023 season, losing all four of her matches so far. With first-round exits at the Adelaide International 1, the Adelaide International 2, the Australian Open and the Lyon Open, the former World No. 1 has nowhere to go but up for the rest of the year.

Despite all that, the Spaniard has not lost hope just yet and is confident of turning things around for herself. Set to play against Karolina Pliskova in her opener at the Abu Dhabi Open up next, Muguruza spoke to The National recently, touching on her run of form of late.

A seasoned pro with more than a decade of experience under her belt, the two-time Grand Slam champion pointed to how tennis is a sport with “no memory” — meaning one can lose early one week and still go on to win a title the next week. Having gone through all that, Garbine Muguruza knows she just has to remain calm and keep working hard to get herself out of the slump she’s in right now.

Garbine Muguruza

The 29-year-old admitted that she had put too much pressure on herself last year, a season that did not go according to plan either. Starting 2022 as the World No. 3, Muguruza ended the year in the 55th spot, registering a 12-17 win/loss record and reaching no semifinals.Gar

But now that she has nothing to lose, Muguruza is confident in her own abilities, hoping she can enjoy her time on the court along the way. The optimist that she is, the two-time Grand Slam champion looks forward to seeing how quickly everything can change, especially when one least expects it.

Garbine Muguruza flaunted her dancing skills at a Zumba instructors’ event in Malaga, Spain, as she continues her break from tennis.

After beginning the 2023 season with four consecutive opening round defeats, Muguruza announced her decision to sit out the clay and grass court seasons this year.

Despite her extended break from tennis, the former World No. 1 has remained active by embracing the cardio and Latin-inspired dance fitness program Zumba.

On Saturday, September 16, the two-time Grand Slam champion joined Beto Perez, the creator of the Zumba fitness program, and over 500 Zumba instructors from the ZIN Academy on stage at the at the Jose Maria Martin Carpena Arena in Malaga.

After training with the other instructors, she delivered an energetic and enthusiastic performance to Colombian singer Sebastian Yatra’s popular song Vagabundo in front of a packed audience.

The 29-year-old took to social media and offered a glimpse into her experience at the event. She opened up about her passion for dancing and her special fondness for Zumba. She also expressed her desire to participate in similar events in the near future.

Two years after she was forced to withdraw from the Olympic team final and spent the remainder of the night on the sidelines, this time Simone Biles competed right until the end.

Charged with closing out another gold medal after a challenging evening of injuries and uncertainty, Biles showed steely nerves. She marched through a spectacular routine, drawing a standing ovation from the Antwerp crowd as the United States clinched a sixth consecutive team gold medal at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships with a score of 167.729.

The night, though, was also defined by a pair of historic performances behind the US. Brazil’s injury ravaged generational talents, Rebeca Andrade and Flávia Saraiva, finally took their nation to the podium for the first time as they clinched a historic team silver medal, scoring 165.530.

Likewise, Mélanie de Jesus dos Santos, who recently moved from Paris to Biles’s family gym in Texas with hopes of finally fulfilling her enormous potential, led France to their first ever world bronze medal by scoring 164.064 for bronze. As new nations stepped up, Great Britain were left behind during a tough night in Antwerp as they finished in sixth place.

Despite their victory, the US suffered brutal luck early on. During their warm-up on the first apparatus, Joscelyn Roberson landed awkwardly while attempting her supremely difficult Cheng vault, hurting her left foot and forcing her out of the competition. Despite some errors, the depth in the US team and another dominant performance from Biles drove them to victory.

Simone Biles

“This team that we have throughout this year had the most grit, courage and fight, especially after everything that transpired out on the floor,” said Biles.

“You had Jos go down, you had somebody step up to the plate. We had so many different emotions going throughout the day and it wasn’t USA’s best day. It’s crazy, we still pulled it out, so I’m really, really proud of the team.”

Shortly afterwards, Jessica Gadirova fell on her own Cheng. More falls followed for Great Britain on the uneven bars and balance beam as the prospect of a third consecutive medal became increasingly remote.

Instead, Brazil, France, China and Italy battled for the medals until the end, with Brazil finishing as the best of the rest as Andrade clinched silver with an incredible final floor routine and Cheng vault.

Ten years to the day since her first world medal in the same arena, the night ended as so many of these occasions have during Biles’ reign over the past decade. The last gymnast to compete in the final rotation, all eyes on her, Biles demolished her closing floor routine, earning the highest score of the competition (15.166). As she departed the podium, the Antwerp crowd loudly saluted the return of a legend.

After her first of six finals, Biles’ now holds 33 medals at the Olympic games and world championships, equalling Vitaly Scherbo as the all-time record holder. No woman has won more world team medals than Biles, now a five-time world team champion.

American Simone Biles has become the most successful gymnast in history, amassing 33 world and Olympic medals, including the recent team gold at the Antwerp 2023 World Championships.

Guiding the American team to victory with 167.729 pointsBiles showcased exceptional performances on the vault and floor exercises, competing across all apparatus.

Shilese Jones did her part with strong performances on the vault and uneven barsLeanne Wong excelled in the vault, and Skye Blakely delivered an impressive performance on the uneven bars.

Biles has the chance to add more medals on Friday, October 6, in the individual All-Around final, where she qualified first with a total score of 58.865.

Simone Biles’ career began to take off at the Antwerp 2013 World Championships, when she won four medals: gold in team and floor, silver in vault, and bronze in the balance beam.

In Nanning 2014, she won four gold medals and one silver. In Glasgow 2015, she was first in four competitions and third in one, the same count as Doha 2018. In Stuttgart 2019, she swept the five gold medals.

Her Olympic achievements include four gold medals and one bronze at Rio de Janeiro 2016, along with one silver and one bronze at Tokyo 2020, tying her with compatriot Shannon Miller at seven Olympic medals

The Antwerp 2023 finals

As the 52nd World Artistic Gymnastics Championships Antwerp 2023 concludes on Sunday, October 8, Biles has qualified for all finals, ranking first in the horse vault, balance beam, and floor exercises and fifth in the uneven bars final.

Although he was an undisputed cruiserweight champion and is yet to lose at heavyweight, not many people seem to be backing Oleksandr Usyk to come out on top in his much-anticipated fight with Tyson Fury – but one former world champion thinks he beats ‘The Gypsy King.’

The fight – announced as signed – is yet to have an exact date or venue confirmed, as first Fury must get through his 10-round fight with Francis Ngannou on October 28 without any cuts or injuries.

Should that bout pass without too much incident, as many expect, then the road will be clear for the first undisputed fight in 24 years as Fury puts his WBC belt against Usyk’s IBF, WBA and WBO.

Speaking to FightHub TV, former WBA lightweight champion Ray ‘Boom Boom’ Mancini says he hasn’t been all out impressed with Fury like many have.

He then detailed why he thinks Usyk will have what it takes to come out on top.

Bob Arum has claimed that Fury will be pocketing somewhere in the region of $200m for the fight. Whether he can add four belts to that pot remains to be seen on the night.

Riddick Bowe has weighed in on Oleksandr Usyk vs. Tyson Fury.

‘The Cat’ and ‘The Gypsy King’ will clash in December in Saudi Arabia. Well, they will, if Fury is able to get through Francis Ngannou unscathed first. ‘The Predator’ will attempt to score one of the biggest upsets of boxing later this month.

Nonetheless, if the heavyweight title bout happens this December, it’ll be a historic bout. A potential bout between Usyk and Fury would crown the first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis. ‘The Lion’ accomplished that feat well over two decades ago.

However, Riddick Bowe feels that Oleksandr Usyk will likely lose to Tyson Fury. Speaking to Boxing News in a recent interview, ‘Big Daddy’ picked the British boxer to win. However, he did offer some advice to Usyk.

That advice is to train like Evander Holyfield for this fight. ‘The Real Deal’ is a lot like Usyk, having come up from cruiserweight to heavyweight. Up there, he faced off against many monsters that were much bigger than him, including Bowe.

Bowe remembers that trilogy with Holyfield and feels that if Usyk wants to win, he has to emulate his style. In the interview, he stated:

Canelo Alvarez successfully defended his undisputed crown against Jermell Charlo on September 30 by unanimous decision. After the fight, Alvarez claimed to be the best boxer as of now. He even stated that nobody could beat this version of himself. Instantly, the pundits had two contenders ready who they believed could pose a problem for the pound-for-pound king. One is the interim WBC super middleweight champion, David Benavidez, and the other is the undisputed welterweight champion, Terence Crawford.

Both fights are highly anticipated, and both fighters have shown interest in challenging ‘Cinnamon’ for his four titles in the super middleweight division. Alvarez has proven by beating Jermell Charlo that he still hasn’t lost a step in the sweet science. But the fans need more now that the legendary boxing commentator has voiced his opinion about both fights.

Terence Crawford

Sports commentator talks about the potential mega fights of Canelo Alvarez

In a recent interview with Fight Hub TVJim Lampley discussed the possibility of both bouts. At first, he spoke objectively and talked about how one of these fights made more sense than the other. He said, “I think the David Benavidez fight is a logical matchup. I think a lot of people will want to see it, it makes a lot of sense.

He confessed he feels subjectively that he’d want Alvarez to take a fight against Terence Crawford. So, Lampley desires to witness another undisputed vs. undisputed clash. He said, “Terence Crawford is the most violent force in boxing and I don’t think he’s big enough to match with Canelo Alvarez but I think he’d love to have a chance to prove it.” Well, the size is a big thing for Lampley; he even blamed the size difference for Alvarez’s loss against Dmitry Bivol.

LEWIS HAMILTON has spoken about his discussions with Ferrari over what would have been a shock move away from Mercedes.

The seven-time world champion had been linked with a switch to The Pancing Horse before he put pen to paper on a new two-year deal with Mercedes.

Hamilton is earning an eye-watering £50m per year in his fresh terms with the Silver Arrows and the deal came after persistent rumours of a £40m contract at Ferrari.

But the Englishman has now confirmed that the Italian’s offer never arrived and all talks were purely informal.

When asked by Swiss outlet Blick if he was ever offered a contract, he said: “Never. Okay, we’ve definitely had a few irrelevant conversations.

“I know a lot of good people there. But I never felt ready to move to Italy.”

Lewis Hamilton

Hamilton had previously described a move to Ferrari as a “dream position” back in 2021, but obviously didn’t come as close as many thought to seeing it materialise this summer.

There has been mounting pressure on the 38-year-old to move away from Mercedes after the team have fallen too far behind Max Verstappen and Red Bull.

Former F1 star Johnny Herbert even said he thought that Hamilton would be the perfect fit for Ferrari and should have made the move to secure an elusive eighth world title.

Speaking to The Mirror, he explained: “He may be aware of what may be happening in the future with Mercedes and has been satisfied that is where his future is.

“Still, I would have liked to have seen the final part of his career in a Ferrari. I honestly think he was the right character and the perfect fit for them.

“If he is happy where he is, for him, that is the best mental place for him to be. You have got to have belief in where you are at and Lewis does, which is why he re-signed.

“Based on the last couple of years, I don’t see Lewis getting an eighth title.

“The car has got better since they changed from the original concept, but they are only as good as the gap behind Red Bull.”

George Russell explained that Lewis Hamilton arriving at Mercedes as an established “megastar”, with Toto Wolff being a “rookie” at that point, led to there perhaps being “more respect” between the two of them than there was between Wolff and himself, in terms of their dynamic.

Russell signed with Mercedes in 2022 having moved through the ranks as a Mercedes junior driver, while Hamilton joined the team in 2013 as a World Champion after making what was then a bold decision in leaving McLaren.

Wolff too had just moved to Mercedes as executive director having been with Williams as a shareholder, and his success has been substantial, having joined the team at the same time as Hamilton, who has gone on to win six of his seven titles as a Mercedes driver, and the team taking eight Constructors’ crowns in a row.

George Russell: Lewis Hamilton ‘already a megastar’ when joining Mercedes

The question of how Hamilton and Russell’s dynamic with Wolff differs came about after Russell was asked about why he turned up with a scar on his wrist at the Dutch Grand Prix, with his response to it inspiring a follow-up.

“I was talking with Toto before the break and I said ‘I want to try this and try that’ and Toto is one who does a lot of activities, but I think he sort of lets Lewis get away with it, but when it comes to me he’s like: ‘No, you’ve got to be careful of this. If you jump on that foil board, really good chance of hurting yourself or if you go skiing, there’s a really, really good chance of hurting yourself’ – and he’s totally right, but I just sort of had a bit of a mentality that I can’t wrap myself up in bubble wrap,” Russell explained on Formula 1’s Beyond the Grid podcast.

Lewis Hamilton

“I know my boundaries, I know my limits, I get my exhilaration from the race track.

“So any additional sport I would do, I would do it to my level but I’m not going to push the boundaries of whatever it is and risk an injury but, long story short, I was learning to foil board in Spain.

“On my first day I did fall off and the foil caught my wrist and sliced my wrist open a bit. So yeah, a few bruises, I did let him know but he just sent me a photo that he broke one of his bones on holiday, so I kept him posted.”

Picking up on that difference between how Wolff seemingly allows Hamilton more room to take part in his off-track activities, the younger Briton was asked by host Tom Clarkson about how the Mercedes team boss wants to advise him in such a way away from the circuit.

But instead of there just being an age gap between the two drivers, Russell explained that there was an understandably marked difference in dynamic when Hamilton arrived at Mercedes compared to his debut with the team, which may go some way to explaining why his relationship with Wolff has been different.

That being said, he believes he now enjoys the same ‘boss/friend’ dynamic Hamilton has spoken of with Wolff for a long period of time.

“I’m not too sure to be honest,” Russell responded when asked if he sees his relationship with Wolff as a paternal one.

“I think, obviously, when Lewis and Toto were acquainted, Lewis was already World Champion, he was already this megastar.

“There was perhaps really more respect [from] Toto to Lewis when he joined because Toto was completely new to Formula 1 at that time, Toto was the rookie and Lewis was the household massive name.

“Whereas with myself, Toto signed to me as a 16-year-old. They’ve always, I guess, nurtured me along my way, advised me, helped me reach my full potential and I guess, yeah, to a degree, you could be right but I think our relationship now has gone more from, I’m not going to say paternal figure, but I’d class ourselves as more friends now.

“And also with Susie [Wolff] and Carmen [Montero Mundt] my girlfriend, we’ve got a really great relationship.

“We spend a lot of time together, doing activities together, dinner together, we see them all the time. So, you know, he’s my boss, but he’s also a friend.

“[We see each other] all the time now, we live probably 200 metres away from each other. We go to the gym together, have coffee together daily.”

When it was put to him that his and Wolff’s relationship sounded somewhat intense, given their proximity, Russell responded: “No, because we don’t really talk about racing to be honest.

“We’re learning to free dive together at the moment – we actually went with Lewis as well on our first experience into the water.

“I’m a kid from the countryside in in the UK, the water, or water sports or activities, were never a thing where I was from, and suddenly, this life has exposed me to so much, which I’m so grateful for.

“I didn’t even know what free diving was a couple of years ago, and it’s such a beautiful life down there in the water – and it’s probably the best disconnection I’ve ever had from life.

“You’re just solely focused on your breathing, on the surroundings, the sea life and it’s really beautiful.

“I just really, really enjoy it. Only two years ago, I would have never have even expected to be doing things like this.”
