The heat is picking up in the light heavyweight division. Dmitry Bivol and Artur Beterbiev are all set to clash in a historic clash this summer, and predictions for it have started pouring in. Joining the bandwagon is former light heavyweight champion himself, Roy Jones Jr., who has deflected from the consensus that it will be a leveled fight between the two undefeated power punchers.

Bivol will bring his IBO and WBA belts against Beterbiev’s IBF, WBC, and WBO titles to determine the undisputed champion of the weight class, last held by Roy Jones Jr. himself. Now, on the precipice of getting a successor for the status, he made a pick between Beterbiev and Bivol. The premise of his argument rests on a major beating one of them took in their career.

Roy Jones Jr. reflects upon the Canelo Alvarez fight

Both Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol come with an illustrious undefeated record. While Bivol has 22 fights under his record, Beterbiev boasts 20. This levelness has prompted fans to presume that it will be a fight that could go either way. However, Roy Jones Jr., thinks it is a fight that will be in favor of 33-year-old Bivol. To Boxing Social, he remarked, “Not 50-50. One, Beterbiev 38 years old. Beterbiev has been down. Bivol has never been down.”

In December 2014, the Russian native stopped Jeff Page Jr. in two rounds. However, in the first round, he was dropped by Page Jr. with a straight right to the head. That’s been the only time Beterbiev has hit the canvas. Basing his argument on this occurrence, the former champion also leveraged the time Bivol defeated Canelo Alvarez in their 2022 fight, giving the Mexican fighter his career’s second loss after Floyd Mayweather.

Roy Jones Jr. then added, “Bivol’s been in there with who at that time was pound-for-pound, the best, Canelo Alvarez. Made him look like nothing. So I’m not saying that it’s 50-50.” However, he does not completely rule out the chances of Beterbiev winning on the night. He also notes that it will not be an easy task for Bivol to cement his victory.

What is Dmitry Bivol up against?

Roy Jones Jr. does not underestimate the power of the knockout machine, Beterbiev. After all, his punches are the ones that induce fright in his weight class. He explained, “Beterbiev got everything to show me to bring back the 50-50. Right now, Bivol has the advantage, 60-40. Now, Beterbiev is a hell of a guy and a hell of a fighter. Awesome power, but he’s also been down.”

He further contended, “So it’s like when I look at that, I was looking where I used to look at things at that point, and when someone else has knocked you down, I gotta get you there. Now, that’s a hell of a punch to walk through though. So it’s a very dangerous game Bivol’s gotta play. Because Beterbiev’s the best puncher in probably the entire division.”

Artur Beterbiev and Dimitry Bivol will meet later this year to crown an undisputed light-heavyweight world champion in Saudia Arabia.

The two champions in the division hold all the belts between them with Beterbiev boasting the IBF, WBC and WBO titles and Bivol the WBA crown.

Beterbiev most recently knocked out Callum Smith in January after also KOing Smith’s fellow Brit Anthony Yarde last year.

As for Bivol, he handed Canelo Alvarez only his second defeat to keep his belt in 2022, before beating Gilberto Ramirez and Lyndon Arthur.

This showdown between two of boxing’s best has been eagerly anticipated for several years and it will headline a card that includes Deontay Wilder, Daniel Dubois and more.

Ahead of the undisputed bout, Bivol’s promoter Eddie Hearn has revealed he is not a fan of Beterbiev.

He said: “I don’t really like him to be honest. I think he’s arrogant.

“Rightfully so because he’s incredibly dangerous and he really believes in himself. But we’re here to talk about the fight.

“I said to Dmitry Bivol after the face-off, ‘Let’s f*** him up, take him to school.

“I really want to beat him, I thought Callum Smith was going to do the job and Anthony Yarde wasn’t either, unfortunately.

“It shows you how good Beterbiev is, but Bivol is special and it is going to be a tough fight for the undisputed world championship.”

The light heavyweight division might not have the same excitement as heavyweight, but things are revving up, turbocharging the atmosphere. On June 1, the boxing world will have the next undisputed light heavyweight champion since Roy Jones Jr. And Dmitry Bivol looks ready for action in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. At least, his latest post on social media suggests he is.

The Indio, California native holds the IBO and WBA light heavyweight titles and would look to snatch the IBF, WBC, and WBO titles from Artur Beterbiev. Adding fuel to the fire, the undefeated duo will headline Eddie Hearn and Frank Warren’s 5 vs. 5 event, a first of its kind. So, when the 33-year-old shared a post on Instagram today, the excitement among fans reached a fevered pitch.

Dmitry Bivol drops Instagram bombshell

Even though there is some time left in the clash, Bivol was eager to share an update with his devoted followers. So, he quickly hopped on Instagram, sharing a snap of himself, possibly after one of his grueling training sessions. In the image, Bivol can be seen candidly sitting next to a ring in his gym as sweat covers his entire body.

Determined to destroy his Russian counterpart come fight night, Bivol captioned the post, “Getting stronger everyday.” The upcoming fight will be his toughest test since he defeated the legendary Canelo Alvarez in May 2022, creating a massive upset. So, just those three words from Bivol were enough to convince fans that Beterbiev would regret the fight ever happening.

Fan announces the fate of Artur Beterbiev

The upcoming fight will be one of the biggest spectacles in recent history, so it didn’t take long for people to clamor behind their favorite boxer’s post. One user seemed confident about Bivol’s win, suggesting Beterbiev supporters will loathe the night it happens. “Bivol [is going to] make Beterbiev fan bois cry,” wrote the user. However, it’s worth mentioning that the 39-year-old Montreal resident has a 100% KO ratio, so the opposite could also happen.

Echoing the same emotion, this fan crowned Bivol, the undisputed champion prematurely. The user wrote, “The next undisputed champ.” Yet, it’s Beterbiev who holds more belts going into the fight, the IBF, WBC and WBO belts, to be exact.

Even with the next fan, the predictions in Bivol’s favor continued. However, this user went a step further by predicting a knockout win for Bivol. The user wrote, “Artur Beterbiev is [going to] get put to sleep.” Again, the 100% KO ratio, plus, Bivol just has a 50% KO ratio. Not to mention, Beterbiev has only gone to the twelfth round once, and even then managed to knockout his opponent.

Meanwhile, another user brought up Bivol’s biggest achievement yet. The user wrote, “Canelo [doesn’t] want the smoke or what?” From the looks of Canelo’s actions, a rematch between them is highly unlikely.

The next user penned a message for Bivol, believing he would come out victorious. “Dmitriy – well done. We believe you will win. It will be a tough fight for both great fighters,” the user commented.

With over a month left in the clash, Dmitry Bivol seems to have rallied an army of fans behind him. If he manages to become undisputed on June 1, who do you think he should fight next? David Benavidez has indicated he would be interested. What are your thoughts on that fight?
