Earlier this month, the unbeaten Shakur Stevenson claimed the WBC lightweight title by outpointing Edwin De Los Santos of the Dominican Republic.

The win made Shakur Stevenson a three-division champion and took his overall record to an impressive 21-0. Unfortunately, his performance also drew some criticism from fans and fellow fighters alike

This was largely because the fight was uneventful, with Stevenson and De Los Santos, according to CompuBox, combining to land just 33 power punches throughout the bout.

Terence Bud Crawford

Shakur Stevenson was quick to admit that his performance in the fight was bad, and later blamed the fact that he felt unwell for his under-par showing. This was, unfortunately, a reasoning many fans scoffed at.

However, one fellow fighter who has shown some support for ‘Sugar’ is current pound-for-pound king Terence Crawford.

‘Bud’ notably replied to a recent Instagram post from Stevenson discussing the fight with nothing but kind words, suggesting that his poor performance was nothing but “part of the game”.

Interestingly, while the post also saw a number of observers criticizing Stevenson, Crawford’s reply has received close to 1,100 likes on the social media platform.

The original post, meanwhile, has nearly 70,000 likes – suggesting Stevenson’s skills are more appreciated than some would like to believe.

One day, Terence Crawford was on top of the world, 24 hours later, he wasn’t.

Earlier this week, Crawford went to bed in his palatial estate with all four world titles sitting on his mantle. A few hours later, he noticed that his IBF title

was suddenly missing. Just a few months after becoming an undisputed champion, the IBF sanctioning body came knocking at his door. Once Crawford revealed that he would be unable to face Jaron Ennis, his mandatory challenger, due to a contractual rematch with Errol Spence Jr., he was stripped and Ennis was elevated.

Although Ennis has officially begun his first world title reign, the 26-year-old wasn’t jumping for joy. Ennis was hoping that Crawford would simply get into the ring and fight him rather than being elevated. Crawford, while he wasn’t happy with how things played out, sympathizes with Ennis.

“I know it’s not ideal,” Crawford told a group of reporters. “I know he’s disappointed that he couldn’t win it off a champion and whatnot. I know it’s disappointing.”

The disappointment that Crawford is alluding to comes in different forms. On one end, he understands why Ennis is disappointed but on the other, Crawford is also disappointed himself.

Terence Bud Crawford

The decision to be given a title via email has a bad connotation. From Crawford’s point of view, Ennis should’ve demanded another solution as opposed to sitting back and accepting their spurious title.

“If I was him, I’d rather fight for it,” continued Crawford. “I’d rather fight the number three guy if I couldn’t get the other guy. Don’t send me a belt in the mail. It just seems like everybody’s cool with being an e-mail champion now.”

Unfortunately for Ennis, that isn’t how things work. Seeing how he already held the interim IBF title, once Crawford was unable to fight him, this particular sanctioning body, which rarely hands out interim straps, simply allowed Ennis to reap the championship rewards.

It wasn’t his proudest moment, but Ennis is hopeful that his title will allow him to lure in some of the welterweight division’s more notable names. By and large, the smooth switch-hitter has been unable to fight the cream of the crop. Ironically enough, Crawford struggled with that very issue for years. But while he may have been forced to take on lower-tier foes for years and knows exactly what Ennis is dealing with, Crawford couldn’t offer him much in terms of advice.

“I know it’s frustrating that he can’t get those big fights but it’s part of the game.”

Terence Crawford fought his way into the conversation of the best fighter in the world this year with a long-awaited unification against Errol Spence Jr.

Not only did ‘Bud’ win Spence’s three belts making him undisputed at welterweight, he did so in a manner that was so dominant that many immediately inserted him at the top of their pound-for-pound list.

Great fighters tend to continue to chase greatness, and that’s what Crawford was doing when he floated the idea of an incredible three-weight jump to challenge Saul ‘Canelo’ Álvarez for all of his super-middleweight titles.

Whilst those talks have fizzled slightly since Spence formally enacted his rematch clause, the intrigue is still there.

Terence Crawford

Speaking to FightHype, Crawford’s trainer, Brian ‘BoMac’ McIntyre said his man would win and that fans should start listening when he says that.

Whilst Canelo didn’t rule out the fight, he did say it wasn’t in his immediate plans and that he would get no credit for beating the smaller man.

Any talks must be put on ice until the Spence rematch is complete, with a weight and date for the fight yet to be decided. In the meantime, Crawford has been stripped of one of his titles.

Claressa Shields is angry. Like many, the appalling news of an elderly woman’s killing seems to have sickened the world champion. A police investigation and a report indicate that the caretaker of an 82-year-old woman in New Mexico allegedly shot and murdered her. Incidentally, the horrendous act occurred roughly four hours after she had called up police officers and told them that she was afraid that something might happen to her.

The undisputed middleweight champion simply said, “Disgusting,” tagging @DailyLoud‘s coverage. The hip-hop portal shared the details through its X account. They said that an elderly lady reported to the police that she was scared that her caretaker would kill her. As it happened, the police came. But, despite the woman’s protestations to remain at the place, they left. Reportedly, they praised the caretaker’s gun collection.

A homicide so heinous

According to the New York Post, Juneanne Fannell‘s caretaker for many years, Henry Cardana, called law enforcement. He reported Fannell being out of control. Hence, she needed to be removed from the residence immediately. In the meantime, Juneanne Fannell also seems to have made a 911 call. She had expressed concern for her safety. Thereafter, police officers visited her place. They had a conversation with Cardana. But reportedly, it revolved around his firearms.

It basically established the fact that the caregiver possessed weapons ready to fire, as the article mentioned. Fannell begged to stay behind as the cops started to leave. By all accounts, there were some disturbing exchanges between the patient and the caretaker. The latter told the police officers to leave. Four hours after the cops left, a neighbor called 911. They reportedly told them, hearing Cardana scream, that he had slain the old lady. When they came back, the police found blood all over Henry Cardana.

State prosecutors later brought up murder charges against him, as mentioned in The New York Post article. Given Shields’ reaction, many would be able to understand why she felt so outraged.

Rage-fomenting between two rivals

Getting back to boxing, the middleweight champion has yet to return to the ring after the title defense on June 3. But as things have been developing, there seems to be a likelihood of her seeking a rematch with her old rival, Savannah Marshall. However, now that both have signed deals with the Professional Fighters League (PFL), fans may wonder whether a rematch could occur inside an octagon instead of the squared circle.

The duo fought last year at the O2 Arena in England. Shields won the fight unanimously and became an undisputed champion for the second time. As far as the fans are concerned, they would be looking forward to a slugfest between the two icons, be it at any stage.

Given her recent signing up for the PFL deal, do you think Claressa Shields will be as successful in MMA as she has been boxing? Please share your views with us in the comments below.

Former multi-weight world champion Andre Ward has made his prediction for the upcoming fight between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk.

The wait is almost over for the much-anticipated clash. It comes a couple of months later than initially expected following Fury’s harder-than-predicted fight against former MMA champion turned boxing novice Francis Ngannou.

Ngannou has been given a Top 10 rating by the WBC following the bout which saw him pose plenty of problems for Fury, including knocking him down in the third. That rating is something Ward has voiced his displeasure about this week.

Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury

In his last three fights, Usyk, meanwhile, has continued the form he showed to become an undisputed cruiserweight champion and has beaten Anthony Joshua twice over 12 rounds and knocked out Daniel Dubois.

Speaking to MMAFightingonSBN, Ward found it a tough one to call.

He then talked himself into siding with Fury when all is said and done

Whoever comes out with the belts, it is finally the top-level match-up the boxing world wants to see.

Tyson Fury is at the tail end of a two-time heavyweight championship campaign – one that he himself says saw him accomplish everything.

He has been open in the past about needing nothing more on his record before retiring, but now there’s one man he considers unfinished business.

Years ago, it was hard to imagine that a rivalry between Fury and Francis Ngannou would materialise.

Even when the former UFC Heavyweight Champion signed to fight Fury in his professional boxing debut, the vast majority of fans and pundits believed it would be over quickly as a crossover spectacle.

Oleksandr Tyson

Ngannou made certain that wasn’t the case by scoring a knockdown in the third round and taking Fury the distance, ultimately losing a split-decision but leaving Saudi Arabia a clear moral victor.

Since then he has been calling for a rematch, and it’s something that, according to Fury’s promoter Frank Warren, ‘The Gypsy King’ wants too. Speaking on The MMA Hour, Warren said his fighter had said as much.

Before any serious talk of a second fight can take place, Fury has a career-defining contest against Oleksandr Usyk.

The Brit will pit his WBC world title against the Ukrainian’s IBF, WBO and WBO to crown the first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis over two decades ago. There is a rematch clause for the loser to activate.

It would be a redemption arc of the decade if Ryan Garcia met Gervonta Davis in the ring a second time and actually won the fight. ‘King Ry’ is about to enter the square circle for the first time after tasting his first career defeat at the hands of Gervonta Davis. However, sure about defeating his upcoming opponent, Oscar Duarte, the Los Angeles resident demands his rematch at 140lbs.

Earlier this year, ‘Tank’ Davis went toe-to-toe with Garcia in a nail-biting battle that resulted in a seventh-round knockout victory for ‘Tank’. Despite the WBA lightweight champion’s dominant win, ‘King Ry’ suggests he is better than him. While appearing in a recent interview with Fight Hub TV, the Victorville native detailed his demands from Davis, claiming he doesn’t care who he has to fight to get to ‘Tank’.

Ryan Garcia is worried about himself

Gervonta Davis

When probed about potentially facing Shakur Stevenson, Garcia asserted he is not worried about his future opponents. Rather, according to Garcia, he is worried about himself, and he wants a rematch. “I’m worried about me. I want to get my rematch,” said Garcia. He went on to suggest that he wants the fight at the right weight, presumably 140. “I want to get that running back at the right weight,” Garcia told Fight Hub.

Garcia went as far as to claim that even ‘Tank’ knows he is better than how he performed in the last fight. In addition, the 23-1 boxer claimed that he is even better than Gervonta Davis despite a loss against him. “He knows that it wasn’t who I really was, and I don’t care what anybody says. That’s not me. I don’t fight like that, and I’m way better than that. I’m better than him and I just gotta prove myself now,” stated Garcia. Impressing upon the importance of the goal, Garcia added, “If I gotta go through Teofima Lopez and Devin Haney to get that. I’m gonna do it.”

Ryan’s promoter on ‘Sugar’ Stevenson vs. ‘King Ry’

While Ryan’s fight against Duarte on December 5 is approaching quickly, Oscar De La Hoya is planning Ryan’s next fight. Garcia is trying to fast-track his way to a rematch with Tank, and he doesn’t care who he has to fight. Meanwhile, in a recent tweet, Oscar De La Hoya hinted at a potential fight between Shakur Stevenson and Garcia.

“@RyanGarcia vs Shakur how many PPV and trust me it’ll all be Ryan who is selling the majority,” posted De La Hoya on his X account. Considering Shakur’s last fight against Edwin De Los Santos, Oscar’s claim might not be far-fetched. If the response from the boxing world to the Shakur fight is to be believed, the fight was boring because Shakur kept running away.

Months after their initial encounter, Ryan Garcia is now demanding a rematch with ‘Tank’ Davis at 140lbs. However, it begs the question – will the rematch have a different result? Will Gervonta acknowledge the callout? Tell us in the comments below.

Ryan Garcia and his infatuation with Gervonta Davis seem boundless. The bad blood between them finally culminated in a clash in the square ring earlier this year. However, a brutal left-body shot left him flat on the canvas and handed him his first loss. ‘KingRy’ never made peace with the decision and is still fixated on a rematch, albeit at 140 pounds. While he feels his redemption lies with ‘Tank,’ the threat of a deep abyss also looms large. Is he chasing vindication or another loss?

The fans and pundits have hotly debated the stark contrast between the skills of the two arch-rivals when they met in the boxing ring. While they saw a slow-footed and weak Garcia, the Californian boxer blamed the dehydration clause. The apprehension of facing a similar outcome has ensured he never fights below 140 pounds. But is a revenge fight at 140 pounds against Davis a good idea right now?

Gervonta Davis has done it again and again and again

Ryan Garcia has the skills to do it but has yet to do it in different weight categories. Despite him fighting in other weight classes, such as super featherweight earlier in his career, he has yet to prove his mantel in the 140-pound category. Meanwhile, Gervonta Davis has mastered the skill of being a force in three different categories.

Davis, at 29-0, has reigned supreme at super featherweight, regular lightweight, and now at light welterweight. The American boxer is immune to weight-cutting issues, and his knockout power has grown with him moving up. On the other hand, Garcia might have to sacrifice his speed for power, which might not be his ideal weapon to defeat Davis.

Despite this, Garcia is determined to prove his worth and his credentials as the next face of boxing. “You’re gonna see a whole different Ryan. A much more focused Ryan, a committed Ryan. A Ryan that you’ve only seen post-pandemic,” the 25-year-old declared vehemently.

Garcia is embarking on a journey that Davis completed some time ago. He has not lost sight of his future, but his obsession with a rematch at 140 or even 147 pounds is a shortsighted analysis of his loss. That solely stems from Golden Boy Promotions’ cash cow painting the blame on the rehydration clause.

Gervonta Davis

The trouble of dehydration and Ryan Garcia’s 140-pound solution

Ryan Garcia ceded power during the negotiating process and accepted the fight at a catchweight of 136 pounds. He also bowed on a 10-pound rehydration clause. And to this day, Garcia regrets that decision.

“You know, you can’t even do an interview. Can you do an interview? Dehydrated. No. Imagine boxing, you know what I mean? So for me, it’s like just level playing field. Just if you beat me, you beat me,” Garcia told FightHubTV.

What is his solution? Take the fight at 140 pounds. He firmly believes that, under different conditions, he could have slain Davis. While he banks his faith on his boxing prowess, his psychological needle is stuck.

Additionally, Garcia needs to gain experience in fighting and switching divisions. Meanwhile, Davis boasts a splendid resume and is confident, coupled with his years of experience switching between the divisions. What is an alien territory and what Garcia perceives as a level playing field is Davis’ dominant territory.

Can Ryan Garcia afford another loss to Gervonta Davis?

Assuming both go to war again and rack in $100 million in revenue, where does a loss leave Garcia and his career? The American boxer will be left stranded at the young age of 25 without hitting his prime. Davis will become the ceiling and death row of his boxing career.

However, if Garcia topples him, he will become the next big thing in the boxing world. But this outcome seems unlikely given the stark gap that fans witnessed in their fight. The wise thing for Garcia would be to build momentum, pick apart opponents, and then meet Davis in the middle of the ring. Before that, he runs a high risk of jeopardizing his boxing career.

What do you make of Ryan Garcia’s relentless pursuit of Gervonta Davis? Who do you believe will emerge victorious in their rematch

Deontay Wilder has suggested that Anthony Joshua has ‘lost his identity’, but the Brit refuses to take such a criticism lying down.

The two former champions have been on a long and meandering collision course for some time now, but their next fights – Joshua against Otto Wallin and Wilder against Joseph Parker – on the same card could just be the final hurdle.

Although frustrating that the rivals occupied the same stage at the launch press conference but won’t be fighting each other, fans got a glimpse into how they interacted.

Whilst Wilder was all respect during the proceedings, Joshua addressed previous comments about a ‘loss of identity’ from the American after the presser, also casting up Wallin saying he was ‘past his peak.’

The two-time heavyweight champion of the world then criticised Wilder’s resume – referencing a long-running debate amongst fans as to which top heavyweight has the most impressive.

‘AJ’ presented a frustrated figure on stage, warning Wallin not to shake his hand post-fight due to his comments. Fans will see on December 23 whether or not that energy transfers into a stoppage win.

Anthony Joshua will face Otto Wallin in December as the co-main event of a mammoth card in Saudi Arabia, and some punters reckon that the two-time champion may be in for a surprise.

Joshua has twice defeated Wallin as an amateur and sparred the Swedish heavyweight as preparation for Charles Martin in 2016.

Despite neither being a known trash-talker, the press conference for the contest turned from respectful to fiery after Wallin claimed that ‘AJ’ was well past his peak, to which the Brit stated that his opponent has ‘never seen a peak.’ The pair then engaged in a fierce face-off.

As the press conference was heating up, the betting odds for the bout saw a massive shift, with fans clearly believing that the underdog, who gave Tyson Fury one of his toughest fights to date, was being massively underrated.

Joshua opened at odds of around 1/12 (-1250) when the event was confirmed, whilst Wallin was given little chance of pulling off the upset at almost 13/2 (+650), on US betting site FanDuel.

However, in just hours those lines saw a dramatic shift, with Wallin backed in to around 3/1 (+310) to become the third man to triumph over Joshua, who drifted out to 2/9 on the site, as shown in a tweet shared by Fight Ghost.

In the United Kingdom, confidence in the Brit seems to have dropped even further, with the best price for Joshua to win, as of writing, at 2/7 (-350) and Wallin at 11/4 (+275). At those odds, Joshua’s chances of winning are deemed closest to when he first faced Oleksandr Usyk, when comparing his fights since he faced Wladimir Klitschko in 2017.

Helenius – 1/16
Franklin – 1/12
Usyk 2 – 13/8
Usyk 1 – 4/11
Pulev – 1/10
Ruiz 2 – 1/2
Ruiz 1 – 1/25
Povetkin – 1/9
Parker – 1/9
Takam – 1/33
Klitschko – 2/5

Joshua-Wallin will take place on December 23 in Riyadh as ‘AJ’ aims to prove his doubters wrong and score what will be seen as a solid win.
