Deontay Wilder has offered his most heartfelt entreaty to Anthony Joshua yet.

Amid rumors that the two former heavyweight titlists appear

farther apart than ever to agreeing on a fight deal, Tuscaloosa, Alabama’s Wilder took to social media to address London’s Joshua directly.

Wilder and Joshua have been engaged in talks for the past year but their intriguing match-up seemingly went belly-up when it became clear that their initial backer, Skill Challenge Entertainment of Saudi Arabia, could not come up with the funds to pay both fighters.

Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing, has repeatedly suggested that the fight could still take place somewhere else, although certain people connected to Wilder have cast doubt on the entire venture. Hearn has hinted at the possibility that Joshua could return to the ring as soon as December, or January, against a “top-15” opponent, while saying that the Wilder fight could happen in the spring.

One thing’s for sure, Wilder, who has not fought in over a year, wants nothing more than to square off against Joshua.

“I just wanted to address two situations…,” Wilder said in a video post. “The thing that has been brought to me is when I’m fighting again, and I promise you guys I’ll be back very soon. It’s just sometimes the business of boxing has to run its course and let it do what it do, but I’ll be back very soon.

“And another thing I wanted to address with a fight that everyone is looking forward to and hopefully happens, and I’m doing everything in my power to make it happen. And I’m referring to the Anthony Joshua fight. So, Anthony, you’re hearing it from my mouth, here personally from the horse’s mouth himself: ‘Hey I’m here, I’m ready, I’m ready to go.’

“I heard some things about what your promoter said, that my last fight only lasted a short period of time (first round knockout of Robert Helenius), that I ain’t fought in a year and he don’t know if I want to fight or not. But I’m letting you know right now, right here, I’m ready to fight, I’m ready to get in that ring, man. Let’s make this the best time of our lives.

“This would be a major disaster if we would never be able to get in the ring and put our stamp down in history, bro. you know what I mean? When people think about classic and great fights, I want them to think about us as well. And being able to do that, we got to get in the ring. That’s just what it’s all about.

“The silliest thing I’ve heard is people saying that you’re not ready. That’s the silliest thing. I don’t believe that. I believe you’re ready. I hope you’re ready. I think you’re ready. Let’s make this happen, bro. Me and you. Let’s make the history happen. Looking forward to hearing your response bro. I’ll talk to you soon.”

Anthony Joshua told fans he wanted three fights in 2023, and he seems intent on delivering.

Under new coach, Derrick James, the Olympic Gold Medalist turned two-time heavyweight champion got back to winning ways this year.

Following his second loss to Oleksandr Usyk at the back end of 2022, he outpointed Jermaine Franklin and produced a much-needed knockout over Robert Helenius in the seventh round of their August bout.

All talk then focused on a fight against fellow former champ and knockout artist, Deontay Wilder. That’s been pushed back until at least Spring of 2024, so Joshua’s message to his team is clear – keep me busy.

As potential opponents are mentioned here and there by promoter Eddie Hearn, Joshua has taken himself to Texas to link back up with James, who also trains Errol Spence Jr, Frank Martin and Ryan Garcia.

Anthony Joshua

He has been previously ticking over in the gym with Ben Davison, but this signals the start of fight camp. There were rumours that the move to the Brit’s gym could be permanent, but Joshua’s latest post put those to bed.

Hearn has mentioned a December date but said January is also an option. As is always the case on the heavyweight scene nowadays, his plans depend on another fight.

Should Tyson Fury come through Francis Ngannou unscathed this weekend, his already-signed undisputed bout with Usyk is being targeted for December 23.

Despite a short turnaround for a fight of such magnitude, the promotion insists the timeframe is realistic – and it would almost certainly mean ‘AJ’ not fighting that night.

If things play out that way, he could be looking at the first month of next year, and his opponent may depend on how the four-belt clash unfolds.

If a rematch is called – as per reports on the contract – at least one of the title

In the world of boxing, abstaining from vices before matches is a revered tradition. This dedication to clean living preserves peak physical and mental states. Additionally, it also illuminates the ring with unparalleled focus and endurance. Gervonta Davis might not agree. ‘Tank’ Davis has a 10-year-old professional career, not counting the time he fought as an amateur. Through these years, he has figured out what works best before a match.

America’s Favorite Video Today

Davis has swiftly climbed the ranks to become a three-weight-class world champion. With a flawless record of 29 wins and no losses, including 27 KO victories, Davis has proven his mettle in the ring. His most recent triumph was a captivating 7th-round TKO victory over Ryan Garcia on April 22, 2023. In a recent interview with Open Thoughts, Davis reveals his secret to lasting long in a fight.

The 3 pre-requisites for Gervonta Davis

Funny Marco asked Davis what made him endure and stay put in a fight for longer durations without getting tired. To this, Davis replied, “I run a lot, have s*x and swimming.” These three things are ornamental to Davis ensuring he stays active through a stretched-out fight.

Marco had heard otherwise. Boxers often refuse to indulge in sexual activities and alcohol at least a month before their fight D-day. “Yeah but like when you train like it’s the last 4 weeks, like the last month, getting close to the fight, but before that, you can f*ck” Davis agrees. The 4 weeks before the fight are important and it is necessary to ensure that the body is fit enough to ensure a win.

Gervonta Davis: The new Mike Tyson?

In an exclusive interview with the Sporting Post, boxing legend Roy Jones Jr. expressed his admiration for Davis, the WBC lightweight title holder. Comparing him to ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson, Jones emphasized Davis’s unique entertainment factor. While fighters like Devin Haney and Shakur Stevenson are entertaining as well, Davis brings a different level of excitement to the sport

According to Jones, Davis possesses a Mike Tyson-like intensity both inside and outside the ring. This makes him a modern-day version of the legendary boxer. His power and unpredictability add a thrilling dimension to boxing, captivating his fans with every fight.

The trick seems to work for Davis. What do you think of this method of his? Let us know in the comments below.

Super-lightweight contender, Ryan Garcia, has expressed his confidence in a rematch against Gervonta Davis, despite succumbing to his power in a seventh round defeat earlier this year.

‘King Ry’ was handed the first loss of his career when he was stopped to the body in the mega fight that garnered over one million pay-per-view buys, taking a knee after feeling the full effect of the shot from Davis.

Since then, he has announced he will move permanently to super-lightweight. He told Fight Hub TV that a rematch with ‘Tank’ is on his radar and that he could beat him ‘under different circumstances.

Garcia says the catchweight of 136lbs and rehydration clause that meant he couldn’t gain more than ten pounds between the weigh-in and fight night affected his performance.

Before the popular 25-year-old can consider future opponents, he must first get past Oscar Duarte a in a relatively tough match-up for his comeback on December 2, live on DAZN.

Should he win, he also mentioned both Teofimo Lopez and Devin Haney are fights he would like to make.

Gervonta Davis is among the most well-known boxers in the world. The multi-division power-puncher is an undefeated phenom, who is currently in possession of the WBA (Regular) lightweight title. He last faced Ryan Garcia, handing the 25-year-old his first-ever loss by way of seventh-round knockout.

Due to his fearsome reputation and crushing knockout power, Gervonta Davis has drawn comparisons to legendary heavyweight, Mike Tyson. However, in Davis’ opinion, the comparison doesn’t hold as much weight as most in the boxing community assume.

According to Davis, he is a more skilled boxer than Tyson. He regards himself as a well-rounded fighter, and characterizes ‘Iron Mike’ as a brawler. While he acknowledged that Tyson was indeed skillful, he simply feels he’s the superior technical boxer, according to a tweet from boxing reporter, Michael Benson:

Gervonta Davis

It isn’t the first time that Gervonta Davis has been compared to Mike Tyson. However, Davis is more closely associated to Floyd Mayweather Jr., another all-time great boxer.

However, instead of being known for his knockout power, Mayweather is often celebrated for his defensive wizardry and technical skills in the ring. Despite his crushing knockout power, Davis is a skilled defensive fighter and styles himself as more of a counterpuncher than Tyson.

Regardless of his statements on the comparisons he often gets with Tyson, Davis has always afforded the heavyweight legend a measure of respect.

MMA fighter Abby Montes, the only woman to have defeated Claressa Shields as a professional, believes that the American will likely never lose a fight again.

Shields has branded herself as the ‘GWOAT’, meaning Greatest Woman Of All Time, and has proven that nickname to be accurate with a series of wins as both an amateur and professional. She has picked up two undisputed titles in her paid career as well as two Olympic gold medals in the amateurs, and headlined major arena events in London and Detroit.

And she has even made the rare transition from boxing into MMA, taking on two bouts in the PFL smart cage in 2021 before returning a bigger name than ever to the ring. Generally, the move is made the other way – with MMA fighters making the switch to the ring which is perceived to be an easier outing.

“The weight class that she competes at in boxing is not a very deep division,” Montes explained during an exclusive chat with Mirror Fighting . “So there are not a ton of challengers I can see that can match up with her. So she will probably stay undefeated for a long time.

“For me, Claressa Shields is better pound-for-pound than Katie Taylor. When you take into account her Olympic achievments and all of the world titles she’s won in boxing she definitely has the edge over Katie Taylor and my choice would be Claressa as the pound-for-pound No.1.”

Claressa Shields

Montes defeated Shields when she was just 21 to bring her MMA record to 3-0, but has lost on the judges’ scorecards twice since that famous victory. After almost a year out of the octagon, she returns on Thursday night in Atlanta against the debuting Brandy Hester on the undercard of Brendan Loughnane’s cage comeback.

“That was a huge benefit to my career,” Montes said of the Shields fight. “That was a big fight and a big moment for me to get that win. It’s brought more attention and more eyes to my career – I use that as motivation and let people use it as an introduction into Abigal Montes from that night so they can follow me along and see how much I’ve improved and how much better I become.”

After the fight, Shields stepped back into the boxing ring, where her star has risen to new heights with massive headline fights in the UK and America. She defeated Savannah Marshall in front of a packed out O2 Arena in London last year before a homecoming in her native Detroit that attracted over 11,000 fans last weekend.

“I think as the sport of MMA has grown the attention for female fighting in general has gained interest,” Montes said of her opponent’s success. “I think it’s great right now the level of attention that male fights, female fights are getting is phenomenal. It’s amazing to be on a fight card where we have a female main event, it’s beautiful to see.”

As for a rematch? Montes is not so sure if her rival will want to do it again. “I do feel like I’m a thorn in her side for that first loss,” she added. “If that opportunity presents itself I am going to take the challenge head on and I will gladly accept the battle with Claressa again – in boxing? Maybe…”

Flint native Claressa Shields, widely known as the greatest woman boxer in the world, is continuing to chase greatness by heading back to MMA in 2024.

Shields signed a new multiyear deal to compete in MMA for the Professional Fighters League. She debuted in the PFL in 2021 and went 1-1 in her first two fights. Additional terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“I am excited to return to a fighter-first organization and I can’t wait to return to the PFL SmartCage,” Shields said in a released statement. “My goal remains unchanged. I will be the first athlete to hold championships in boxing and MMA simultaneously. I have grown so much since my first MMA fight and cannot wait to put my skills on display.”

In her first professional MMA fight, she faced off against Brittney Elkin. Elkin had more MMA experience, but Shield’s experience as a boxer more than made up for it. Shields’ lightning-fast hands made Elkin tentative to initiate offense while standing.

Elkin resorted to taking Shields down to the ground, controlling Shields for the first two rounds. In the third round, Shields was able to defend the takedown of Elkin and began raining blows as soon as she saw an opening. Shields won in the third round when the referee stopped the fight by technical knockout.

The victory was impressive, as not many boxers have the ability venture into the world of mixed martial arts. Shields clearly had some holes in her grappling game but showed heart and resilience to battle back after losing the first two rounds and close the show.

Claressa Shields

More impressively, Shields is a world champion in the prime of her career, yet is willing to take the challenge of putting herself in unfamiliar territory against opponents who have more experience.

In Shields’ second professional MMA fight, she faced off against Abigail Montes, losing by split-decision on the judges’ scorecards. Montes exploited the inexperience of Shields with a game plan that revolved around closing the distance, smothering and grappling Shields for control on the ground and against the fence.

Shields was able to keep the fight standing in the opening round while out-landing Montes from range. In rounds two and three Montes was able to take Shields down and control her, which was enough to edge Shields on the scorecards. It was Shields’ first loss in pro combat sports.

Shields isn’t giving up on boxing, but she is joining the MMA realm in pursuit of greatness. She has accomplished nearly everything there is to accomplish in her boxing career. With no opponents that can rival her boxing skill, Shields is leveling the playing field by returning to MMA.

“It is a privilege to announce the PFL has re-signed the most dominant women’s boxer in the world, Claressa Shields, to a new multi-year agreement,” PFL CEO Peter Murray said. “Claressa and the PFL share a fighter-first, merit-based value system and take on the world attitude. We are proud to welcome ‘The GWOAT’ back to the PFL and the sport of MMA.”

No matter what happens in MMA, Shields’ legacy is solidified. This is just icing on the cake.

British boxer Tyson Fury unintentionally revealed the date for his fight against Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk. On December 23, just two days before Christmas, the two heavyweights will clash in Riyadh, United Arab Emirates, with all the belts on the line.

Queensberry and K2 promotions announced the bout on September 29, with no date set yet. However, Fury seemingly revealed it to Sky Sports.

“We’ve signed the contracts. December 23, that’s out there, isn’t it?” the WBC champion said, adding that “It’s only eight weeks away from Saturday. Why not?”

It is worth remembering that Fury is currently in Riyadh, preparing for his clash against UFC fighter Francis Ngannou on Saturday. Nevertheless, the Briton doesn’t seem to be concerned about such a short time between his two fights.

Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury

It would be a Christmas Bonus for Fury

“I’ve not even had a fight this year, so to get two before the end of the year would be fantastic,”Fury stated. “If it happens on December 23, I’ll be playing that song: ‘Driving Home for Christmas.'”

Double payday,” the champion asserted. “There’ll be a nice big turkey in the Fury household this Christmas.”

“I won’t land back in the UK until Christmas Eve, late Christmas Eve, and if we get a delay, I’ll be spending Christmas with the reindeers in the airport,” he joked.

Fury will not risk his WBC title against Ngannou in the October 28 fight.

However, Fury’s belt will be on the line in the December fight. At the same time, Usyk will put his IBF, WBA, and WBO belts on the line.

Though plans for Anthony Joshua to lock horns with Deontay Wilder seem to be once again on the back burner, it will always be a match up that is heavily discussed and debated amongst fans, fighters and media alike.

Max Kellerman, formally of ESPN, has broken down the fight, and has serious doubts whether Joshua still has what it takes to get the better of ‘The Bronze Bomber.’

In a recent interview with SecondsOut, Kellerman did say that he would pick the version of the Brit who dramatically stopped Wladimir Klitschko back in 2017, though admitted that he “hasn’t seen that guy in a while.”

Promoter Eddie Hearn has claimed throughout 2023 that a deal was essentially done for ‘AJ’ and Wilder to do battle in Saudi Arabia, however it became apparent in the aftermath of Joshua’s win over Robert Helenius in August that those plans have collapsed.

The former unified world champion is expected to be back out in either December or early 2024, whilst Wilder looks further away from a return to the ring than ever.

Gervonta Davis fiercely dismissed the idea of Jake Paul beating him in a potential boxing match. Davis is the multi-division boxing champion and considered among the greatest boxing talents in the world today.

Meanwhile, YouTuber-turned-professional boxer Jake Paul has received a lot of praise lately for building legitimate boxing skills in spite of being a relative newcomer to the sport.

Recently, a fan post on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) suggested that Jake Paul would be a tough fight for Gervonta Davis and claimed that he could beat ‘Tank’ in a competitive match. The post read:

He has since deleted the post but talkSPORT journalist Michael Benson posted the screenshot on his ‘X’ account.
