WBC heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury, has told Anthony Joshua he is not in line for a shot at the ‘Gypsy King’, and that he should ‘get to the back of the queue’.

For years the pair have flirted with the idea of meeting in the ring, with talks breaking down in 2022 despite financial terms being agreed, taking one of the most eagerly anticipated boxing match-ups away from the fans.

At one point, it looked as though there could be an undisputed heavyweight title fight for the first time since the 1990s, with the all-British affair being likely to be one of the biggest fights in British history.

That’s a far cry from the present attitude after Joshua‘s unconvincing wins following his defeat to Andy Ruiz Jr. in 2019, with Fury not even entertaining the idea of fighting someone he considers a ‘bum’.

Anthony Joshua And Tyson Fury

“He’s just a big bum dosser who’s been knocked out and had three losses,” Fury said to ‘Daily Mail Sport Boxing’. “You can’t even compare him to me anymore, it’s not even a fight, I don’t even look forward to fighting him, it’s not a fight anymore.

“I’m not interested. The bubble has been burst. Its not so much interesting for me to beat AJ anymore. He’s already been beat, he’s been spanked by Usyk twice and knocked out by a fat man [Ruiz Jr.] so it’s not of my interest to beat him.”

He added: “Get to the back of the queue. The fight is off the cards, it’s gone, dead. The fight was off the cards when he got beat.”

On the 30th of September, Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez proved his mettle as a pound-for-pound fighter when he rose to victory against Jermell Charlo at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Through his precision jabs, unmatched calm, and impressive footwork, Canelo Alvarez demonstrated his adeptness as a boxer and subsequently won a unanimous decision.

Another story was written at the same venue on the 29th of July, only a few months earlier. Terence Crawford emerged as the unified champion of the welterweight class after he defeated Errol Spence Jr. through a 9th-round knockout. In the days following the fight in September, the boxing realm anticipated a clash between the two champions. And if the fight does take its course, Shawn Porter has his pick for the favorite.

Shawn Porter Rallies Behind Terence Crawford for a Clash Against Canelo

Former welterweight champion, Shawn Porter made his pick between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford if a fight between the two was outlined. He thinks the latter would go home victorious on fight night. He said, “If Terence wants to do it, he will do it. And if Terence wants to do it, he knows he can do it. I will actually bet on Terence Crawford for that fight.”

A heavyweight who has fought and lost to Tyson Fury no fewer than three times has wished the WBC champion’s future opponent ‘good luck.’

The challenge faced by Oleksandr Usyk when he finally gets into the ring with The Gypsy King sure is a big one. Fury is yet to lose in his 33-fight professional career and even in moments of huge adversity such as when he got a terrible cut against Otto Wallin, and was knocked down heavily by the Deontay Wilder toward the end of their first fight, Fury has always managed to rally.

He stands 6″9 tall with a reach of 216cm, has famously good feet, quick hands, and has even added knockout power to his game since going up with the Kronk gym’s Detroit coach Sugar Hill.

Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk

One man who knows how hard it is to lay hands on Fury is British contender Derek Chisora. The pair have fought three times – firstly in 2011 when Fury won a unanimous points decision, then twice more, both of which ended in knockout losses for ‘Del Boy‘.

Speaking to The Schmo, he was asked what advice he might have for Usyk given his ring experiences with Fury.

Usyk – who was recently dubbed the heavyweight Lomachenko – is no slouch as a former undisputed cruiserweight king turned unbeaten heavyweight who has beaten Chisora, twice beaten Anthony Joshua and recently saw off the challenge of Daniel Dubois to retain his WBA, WBO and IBF world title belts.

The fight with Fury will be the first undisputed fight at heavyweight in 24 years and is one the world eagerly awaits.

Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk look to make history in the heavyweight division by fighting to crown the first four-belt undisputed champion.

Fury, who brings the WBC belt to the table, has signed to face Usyk – WBA, WBO and IBF champ – following his crossover bout with Francis Ngannou this month, with the event expected in early 2024.

Should ‘The Gypsy King’ be able to pull it off, he will be just the second fighter from the UK to become undisputed in the four-belt era – the first being Scotland’s Josh Taylor.

Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury

Taylor reigned as sole super-lightweight titlist from May 2021 for a year following a campaign in the trenches culminating in his crowning moment against José Ramírez in Las Vegas – a unanimous decision victory.

And Taylor told Gareth A Davies that, although Usyk would prove to be tricky, the Brit would be leaving the ring undisputed once again.

He subscribes to the idea that the Ukrainian will simply not be big enough to beat Fury, but says he’ll be a ‘nightmare’ for lineal champion.

Once Fury’s crossover bout with Ngannou is done and dusted, it’s expected a fight date will be announced. Usyk will be ringside for the event.

Tyson Fury has labelled Anthony Joshua a ‘bum’ and says a potential fight is off the cards.

On October 28, Fury will fight former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou under boxing rules and then he will go straight into an undisputed world title clash with Oleksandr Usyk.

After that, the only major boxing fight left for ‘The Gypsy King’ is against Anthony Joshua, and it would arguably be the biggest of the lot.

The pair have attempted to make the fight on a number of occasions, but for various reasons, negotiations have always collapsed.

Unfortunately, however, with Joshua now having three losses on his record, one against Andy Ruiz Jr and two against Usyk, Fury is no longer interested in the fight.

“I don’t really care what he says, he’s a bum in my opinion,” Fury told Daily Mail Sport Boxing.

“Its not so much interesting for me to beat AJ anymore. He’s already been beat, he’s been spanked by Usyk twice and knocked out by a fat man so it’s not of my interest to beat him.

“I’m fighting a guy who’s in his prime who’s a champion, who’s bigger than him, stronger than him and who’s a bigger knockout puncher than him in Ngannou.

“Get to the back of the queue. The fight is off the cards, it’s gone, dead. The fight was off the cards when he got beat.”

Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and Juan Mata also among the leading sports names to join the Otro Capital group, which committed to €200 million (£164m) investment into Alpine in June

Rory McIlroy, Anthony Joshua and Trent Alexander-Arnold are among the leading sports stars who have joined the investment group which recently bought into the Alpine Formula 1 team.

In June, Otro Capital announced a €200 million (£164m) strategic investment in the Renault-owned Alpine team in exchange for a 24 per cent equity stake in Alpine Racing

Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney were already named as part of the investor group through their Maximum Effort Investments at the time of the initial announcement.

Four months on and a number of additional big names from the sporting world have now joined that group:

  • Patrick Mahomes – Super Bowl-winning quarterback
  • Rory McIlroy: Four-time golf major winner
  • Anthony Joshua – World heavyweight-winning champion boxer
  • Trent Alexander-Arnold – Champions League-winning Liverpool and England defender
  • Travis Kelce – Super Bowl-winning tight end
  • Juan Mata – World Cup-winning Spain midfielder

In a statement, the financial group said that the additional array of investors would “help drive global awareness for Alpine F1 and will further complement Otro Capital’s contributions in areas such as media, sponsorship, ticketing, hospitality, commercial rights management, licensing and merchandising”

Speaking as part of the joint statement, Liverpool and England’s Alexander-Arnold, who attended last year’s British GP at Silverstone, said: “I’m excited to be joining Otro Capital’s group as an investor into Alpine F1 along with my brother Tyler.

“Having been to Formula 1 races as a fan, I love the high-pressure environment of the paddock and I’ve seen firsthand how incredibly impressive the Alpine team is.

“Our shared goal as an investment group is to help contribute to its continued success on the grid, at a time when F1 is facing incredible growth as a sport. As a footballer, I understand the importance of teamwork, innovation and determination in achieving goals.”

Joshua, meanwhile, described the move to get involved as “an opportunity I couldn’t ignore”, while McIlroy said that his “passion for excellence on the golf course has led me to admire the same pursuit in Formula 1”.

Although majority owned by Renault, the French manufacturer’s Oxfordshire-based F1 team have run under the name of its sports car brand Alpine since 2021.

Amid a disappointing 2023 season on the track and a turbulent one off it, Alpine are sixth in the Constructors’ Championship and occupy something of a no man’s land between the top five and the rest of the field with five rounds to go.

They are 129 points behind fifth-placed McLaren and 67 points ahead of seventh-placed Williams.

At the Belgian GP in July, the team stunned F1 by parting company with team principal Otmar Szafnauer and sporting director Alan Permane, the big-name departures coming hot on the heels of former Alpine CEO Laurent Rossi being moved on to different projects.

Bruno Famin has since overseen the F1 team, with the outfit aiming to hit back next season and close the gap to the leading teams.

Anthony Joshua’s long-anticipated fight against Deontay Wilder has been delayed once more, with the earliest potential date now set for March, as reported by Mirror UK.

Initially, Joshua had planned to face Wilder in the Middle East either in December or January, but due to the delay, he will participate in an interim bout before the possibility of facing the American boxer in the spring. His most recent fight was in August when he defeated Robert Helenius, only for it to be revealed later that the Finnish boxer had failed a pre-fight drug test.

Furthermore, Anthony Joshua is also being considered for a shot at the IBF world title if it becomes vacant following Tyson Fury’s anticipated undisputed match against Oleksandr Usyk, scheduled for December 23 in Saudi Arabia.

Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, told iFL TV: “He wants to; he really wants to [fight]. We’ve been on calls with him all week. There’s a lot happening with the IBF situation. We’ll have to see. I think he’s going to fight in December or January.

anthony joshua and deontay wilder

“I think the Wilder fight, realistically, is not going to happen until March or April, at the latest. But he wants to fight. He wants to go back to camp and asked us to try and make him a fight for December; whether that spills into January, we’ll see.”

In the past three years, Anthony Joshua has participated in four fights, winning two and losing two. His back-to-back defeats came in world title contests against Usyk, but he bounced back by defeating Jermaine Franklin and securing a knockout victory over Helenius.

Regarding his most recent win, Joshua commented, “Any time’s a good time to fight. It’s only a fight. It doesn’t matter who it is. It could’ve been Wilder eight years ago or Wilder now. It is what it is at the end of the day.

“There’s no worry to me when it is. I’m just happy that we can get the fight going, and I think people appreciate that. I’m doing my best to keep heavyweight boxing on the map.”

Trainer of Terence Crawford, Brian ‘BoMac’ McIntyre, has no concerns over the weight that a rematch takes place between his man and Errol Spence Jr after a dominant display back in July.

Crawford battered Spence from pillar to post from the opening round, getting the stoppage in the ninth round to cement his position as the undisputed welterweight champion and – in the eyes of most – greatest pound-for-pound fighter on the planet.

Since then, Spence has activated his rematch clause and indicated that he would relish the chance to stage the second bout at super-welterweight, after being tight at the 147lbs limit.

However, Crawford has stated that nothing formal has been requested and if that is the case, as per the contract, the second fight goes at welterweight again

In an interview with Fight Hub TV, McIntyre, who was released from a Manchester prison last week, warned Spence’s side that the weight would make no difference to the outcome.

Recent reports suggest that the rematch will indeed go ahead with plans for the duo to run it back in February, although the weight for the scrap is yet to be agreed.

Given the manner of victory the first time, fans will be hard pressed to find an analyst or fighter on the planet that predicts a Spence win this time around.

Tyson Fury has now spoken for the first time about confirmation of his fight with Oleksandr Usyk.

It was confirmed last month that the WBC heavyweight world champion will meet the WBA, IBF & WBO heavyweight world champion in a undisputed showdown in the coming months in Saudi Arabia.

Fury must first get through hit fight with Francis Ngannou on October 28, also in Riyadh.

As a result, he is currently in training camp and has not given any interviews on the announcement.

Over the weekend though, Tyson attended his younger brother Tommy Fury’s win against KSI.

While at the fight, he was accosted by former foe Derek Chisora and gave a brief interview on his Instagram page – the first since it was confirmed that he will be facing Usyk

Fury told Chisora: “Listen I’m not really too bothered about Usyk at the moment because I’ve got big Francis to deal with.

tyson fury and oleksandr usyk

“After that’s dealt with and I get out of there injury-free, in one piece, we’re on like Donkey Kong.

“And I’ll deal with this little guy, I’ll switch him off like a little piece of rain off my shoulder.

“But until that day, I always give every single person I ever fight 100 per cent.

I’ve been training, by the time the fight comes around, for 12 weeks.

“I usually only train for five or six weeks but I’ve been out since December.

“I’ve lost like 150lbs in four weeks just by dieting.”

Tyson Fury has reacted to Anthony Joshua saying he is ‘carrying the heavyweight division’ – and it’s fair to say he has a different opinion.

After he knocked out Robert Helenius in August, Joshua took to the mic and said his back was sore from carrying boxing’s blue-ribbon division – likely a nod to him having two fights under his belt this year when the champions, Fury and Oleksandr Usyk, hadn’t fought.

Speaking to Daily Mail Boxing, Fury, who is still undefeated after 34 fights and is the current WBC and lineal champion, reacted to Joshua’s claims and says he is no longer interested in the all-British blockbuster.

As for Joshua, he had look set for a showdown with Deontay Wilder, but after a deal from the Saudi Arabia’s Skill Challenge Entertainment was withdrawn that clash now looks unlikely to happen anytime soon.

Instead, he may be out in December or January.
