Just over a week remains for the ‘Tank’ war. Gervonta Davis (now Abdul Wahid) will defend his WBA lightweight title against Frank Martin at the MGM Grand Arena. The Baltimore Southpaw returns after a year-long break. The period saw his seesaw from the Ryan Garcia triumph to the brush with law. Fans’ spirits were finally lifted when the news came that he would be facing ‘The Ghost’. Predictably, talks about the fight and its potential outcome have become a staple across the board. Errol Spence Jr. now seems to have joined the fray. He shared the direction the June 15 headline fight might take.

However, the reaction soon met its share of detractors. Leonard Ellerbe, despite the bitter feud taking place between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and ‘Tank’ Davis, remains certain about one thing. Taking a dig at Spence Jr., the Mayweather Promotions CEO asserted that the lightweight champion isn’t going anywhere. There’s no way the former unified welterweight champion was going to let it slide.

Errol Spence Jr., it’s time for a change

I’m not trying hear that shit what you saying is vice versa tank never faced what he facing June 15th either..,” said Errol Spence Jr., clearly refusing to buy Leonard Ellerbe’s post. The Mayweather Promotions, tweeting back to the former world champion’s statement, had tried giving a reality check. To be fair, Ellerbe acknowledged Frank Martin as a good boxer.

However, he then added that ‘The Ghost’ has yet to face a nightmare like ‘Tank’. Negating that Martin won’t succeed in dominating Davis, Leonard Ellerbe said, “If they think Tank going give rounds away, they crazy. Every fight/opponent is a diff approach. One thing for sure: he’s never faced anything like what he’s about to see 15 Jun. I can’t fkn wait [till] next Sat.

So what precisely did Errol Spence Jr. say? Sharing that he foresees Frank Martin spinning a winner on June 15, the New York-born southpaw said, “I feel like he’s the most skilled talented fighter that Tank ever fought. Like, he’s one of those… he can’t take those early rounds off and feel like he’s gonna come in the seven-eighth round and hope for a knockout. I feel like Frank gonna dominate him first through the 12th round and win a fight.

Spence Jr. accepted that, as a good fighter, Gervonta Davis might offer some potent resistance. But eventually he would capitulate in front of Frank Martin. ‘The Ghost’ is definitely the best opponent ‘Tank’  could be facing in his decade-long career. The Detroit-born southpaw’s speed and power are going to overwhelm the lightweight champion, Spence Jr. posited. Unsurprisingly, the former world champion’s clip received a response from the man in question as well. Laughing out loud, Gervonta David tweeted, “Get yo money, champ!!

At the Crossroads: Continuing or Retiring?

Spence Jr. and Frank Martin go back as trainees at Derrick James‘ stable. The former and the award-winning coach are reportedly entangled in a lawsuit. However, as the video shows, the issue doesn’t seem to have clouded the former world champion’s views on a former stablemate. When asked about Errol Spence Jr.’s role in his life, Frank Martin, while speaking with DAZN Boxing a few years ago, revealed that ‘The Truth’ had always been a motivational figure to him.

In the build-up to his upcoming fight, lightweight Frank Martin, alongside trainer Derrick James, made an appearance at Children’s Health hospital in Dallas in support of the Derrick James Family Foundation.

Martin is set to face WBA lightweight titleholder Gervonta Davis on June 15 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Martin (18-0, 12 KOs), an underdog leading into the fight, is finding causes and people in his life to serve as motivation. Martin has never been a pay-per-view headliner and was only recently elevated to main event status after a star-making performance against Michel Rivera in 2022, winning a unanimous decision over the lightweight contender.

“Everything that I’m working towards is a lot bigger than me,” Martin said. “I do it for the kids, and I do it for my family and friends.”

Since that win, Martin won a close unanimous decision last July over Artem Harutyunyan, who now faces Shakur Stevenson on July 6. Martin was rumored to be an opponent for Stevenson, but the fight fell through and he hasn’t fought since. Despite his detractors and critics, Martin remains focused. He sparred with Davis some years back, which was a talking point of their rowdy press conference. Martin seems to be channeling the mindset of a teacher, looking to empower youth with his comments about the upcoming fight.

“I know that I can inspire others through what I do in the ring, and that’s why I’m putting everything I have into being at my best on June 15,” Martin said.

James also shared his perspective, emphasizing his role as a role model heading into this career-defining fight for Martin.

“I understand how fortunate I am and the opportunities I have been given,” James said. “I also understand my responsibility to the youth in my community. They inspire me to be my best, just like I hope I’m inspiring them.”

Not for the first time in his career, fans are concerned about the welfare of Tiger Woods after he featured in an interview for his charity foundation in Las Vegas.

The 48-year-old was in Sin City for a poker event alongside professional player Phil Hellmuth and gaming streamer Ninja as part of his charity TGR Foundation, the non-profit he founded in 1996.

In a video clip posted by Hellmuth on Friday, Woods wore a groggy expression on his face and his cheeks appeared to be swollen.

“I’m so proud of Tiger at the TGR foundation, we’re doing Tiger‘s poker night,” Hellmuth said in the video uploaded to X. “We’re going to raise a million, maybe $2million dollars. It’s a really nice event.”

But as Woods spoke in the video, he struggled to get his words out coherently and it wasn’t difficult for fans to notice. Hellmuth praised his charity work and asked him for his favorite moment, to which he replied: “It’s the stories that the kids come back and tell.

“The first generation to ever go to college. Parents said you’d never go to college, grandparents say you’d never go to college, it’s useless. All of a sudden, they’re in college flourishing, going to Stanford, Harvard, MIT, and Yale, going to amazing places doing amazing things. One of our girls … she’s one of the directors who landed one of the rovers on Mars.”

Fans think Tiger Woods was intoxicated

The clip only lasted for 90 seconds, but it was enough to cause some concern amongst his fans, who made their thoughts clear on social media – with some suggesting he may have been under the influence.

One user wrote: “damn, I hope Tiger is OK…”, while another said: “Tiger looks so sauced!!” another user replied.

The 15-time Major winner’s private life has divided opinion over the last decade, but it seems burning at the candle at both ends may be catching up with the American golfing legend.

Woods, who has a net worth of around $1.3bn, pled guilty in a DUI case in 2017 where he allegedly had five different drugs – Vicodin, Dilaudid, Xanax, Ambien and THC – in his system.

He also suffered career-threatening injuries in a car crash in 2021, with his right leg requiring an extensive operation, and it forced him to be hospitalized for three weeks.

Frank Martin is gearing up to prove his doubters wrong in the upcoming clash against Gervonta “Tank” Davis, and he couldn’t be more excited about it. Speaking to TMZ Sports, Martin revealed that he thrives on criticism, using it as motivation to fuel his drive and ambition. With the WBA Lightweight World Title fight just around the corner on June 15 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Martin is ready to shock the world.

Martin, boasting an impressive 18-0 record with 12 knockouts, feels more than prepared to take on one of the best pound-for-pound boxers in the world. “I got a lot of things that him, the world, a lot of people may not expect that I got,” he confidently stated, emphasizing his readiness to step into the ring and deliver a performance that will leave everyone in awe.

Despite the skepticism surrounding his chances, Martin remains unfazed. He embraces the doubt and uses it to his advantage. “That s*** embraced,” he said. “Bet with me, win with me. That s*** is one of them things I embrace. I’m eating off it. It’s fuel to me, so it is what it is.” For Martin, the criticism is nothing but a source of strength and motivation.

Frank Martin’s message to Gervonta Davis

As the fight approaches, Martin is aware that he is not the betting favorite, with Davis heavily favored at around -600. However, he doesn’t see this as a disadvantage. In fact, he believes it will only make Tank more alert and focused in the ring. Martin is eager to face a well-rounded and balanced opponent, as he knows it will bring out the best in both fighters.

In anticipation of the showdown, Martin has a direct message for Davis“I hope I get the best version of you ’cause you gon’ get the best version of me, for sure.” He is determined to deliver an unexpected and spectacular performance, showcasing his skills and proving that he is a force to be reckoned with in the boxing world.

With the stage set and the anticipation building, all eyes will be on Frank Martin as he steps into the ring on June 15. Will he be able to silence his critics and claim victory against one of the sport’s top fighters? Only time will tell, but one thing is for certain – Martin is ready to seize the moment and make his mark.

Gervonta Davis is set to face Frank Martin on June 15th, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The Baltimore native will be defending his WBA lightweight title against Martin. ‘Tank’ was last seen inside the boxing ring last year, when he fought Ryan Garcia in April 2023. It was one of the biggest fights of the year and amassed millions of dollars. However, is it the case this time around?

The 29-year-old has been out of action for more than a year now. Fans are eager to see him inside the squared circle. Gervonta Davis’ return to the ring has long been predicted to bring in a footfall, unlike other fights of the year. It is now estimated to bring in a gate collection of approximately $14 million. Is that good or bad?

Gervonta Davis vs. Frank Martin to have a poorer turnout than Gervonta Davis vs. Ryan Garcia?

BoxingTickets shared a post on X which read, “The 100 sections have not been opened up yet, leading to the correction of the total possible, “All in” gate potential. An estimate that does not include any production kills or comps. Which are unknown in Nevada due to commission change in reporting.” BoxingTickets revealed the numbers for the upcoming boxing event, and it looks a bit underwhelming despite it being a Gervonta Davis event with David Benavidez as a co-main event. The boxing ticket evaluator highlighted that the event is predicted to bring in a gate revenue of $13.6 million excluding the production costs. This looks disheartening especially for Gervonta Davis fans and for the PBC, the promotion that is putting together the event.

As per reports, the maximum estimated gate is $13.6 million. Comparing this to the gate revenue of Tank’s last fight with Ryan Garcia, the 2023 clash had a gate collection of $22.8 million. Most other big Vegas events have also had a gate collection of close to $30 million. In comparison, Mayweather vs. Pacquiao had a staggering gate collection of $41.4 million back in 2015 when the two fought each other. Whereas Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin II in 2017 saw a gate collection of $36 million. Considering that the event is an Amazon Prime Video PPV event, the PPV income may not be as substantial as it has been for all the other fights that had well-known telecasters like Showtime Boxing and DAZN to sell the fight. This may affect the overall income generated by the event.

Frank Martin remains confident that he will beat Gervonta Davis when they square off on June 15.

Martin chases his first world title as Davis defends his WBA Lightweight Title. Both fighters have a history of sparring with each other. The kick-off presser brought up their sparring session, with both fighters giving a conflicting narrative. Martin recalled buzzing Davis, who was then allegedly holding on to him. Davis hit back, stating Martin was scared to face him. He also claimed that Martin’s punch was nothing that made him feel worried, saying he responded in the session.

Davis vs. Martin

“You caught me one time. I sparred already; he was scared to spar. I jumped on him. He’s a southpaw. He threw the brick hand. Boom! That’s what caught me. It wasn’t like, boom and… Hell no. Everybody in here know, if I get touched, I’m coming on that,” Davis stated

Martin’s last fight tested his resolve. He won via a unanimous decision only after Artem Harutyunyan took a knee in the final round. Before that, Artem was outboxing Martin, who appeared on course for his first defeat. While styles do make fights, facing Davis is a whole other level.  Davis has questioned Martin’s ability to cut it at the top level, feeling that the pressure will get to him.

Davis also has plenty of critics to satisfy. His last fight was a seventh-round stoppage of Ryan Garcia. However, the victory was questioned after Garcia said that his 136-pound catch weight and ten-pound rehydration had weakened him. Tank has also been accused of ducking the big names, as fights with Shakur StevensonDevin HaneyVasiliy Lomachenko and Teofimo Lopez have not been made. Martin backed himself to be victorious.

Martin Reacts

“I feel like I got a lot of things that he, the world, and a lot of people don’t expect that I got. I’m just ready to go in there and capitalize off of this moment. That’s something I embrace. I’m eating off of it. It’s fueling me. It’s not going to change, though. I just got to out there and do the unexpected.

“It means everything. It doesn’t come by for a lot of fighters. Me going in there and getting it and changing the seat [dethroning Gervonta of WBA ‘regular’ 135-lb title]. It’s a blessing to have that type of opportunity. You got to see me June 15th. I hope I get the best version of you. You going to get the best version of me for sure,” Martin said

To hype the fight, the WBC has added their ‘Freedom’ belt for the winner. Boxing has been accused of having too many belts. Boxers are responsible for paying additional sanctioning fees for the titles they hold. This has the impact of discouraging fighters from keeping hold of their belts, as it will come out of their purse. Davis has addressed this previously, stating that he is not a fan of sanctioning fees. His attitude for this fight has remained the same. During an interaction with former boxer Andre Berto, Davis said he would not pay any fee.

Berto: “The question is are they gonna have pay sanction fees for it?”

Davis: “I’m not paying…[nothing].”

Anthony Joshua is poised to face winner of Tyson Fury’s rematch with Oleksandr Usyk.

The two heavyweights will square off once again in Saudi Arabia later this year with the Gypsy King aiming to gain revenge on the man who unified the division with a thrilling win. AJ’s next assignment is likely to be in September at Wembley against Daniel Dubois – who secured a statement win over Filip Hrgovic at the weekend.

Whoever comes out on top in the all-British encounter is likely to get a shot at the man who wins the Fury-Usyk rematch, according to Eddie Hearn.

The Matchroom supremo has confirmed that, even if Fury gains revenge to leave the score between him and Usyk at 1-1, there is unlikely to be a trilogy fight between the pair.

He told The Sun: “I expect the winner of the December fight to fight Anthony Joshua, if he wins in September. There’s no decision yet made on the opponent, there’s three or four in the mix. But yeah, that’s the absolute plan. The first priority is to regain the world heavyweight title and obviously undisputed’s always been the dream. So I think we’re two fights away from becoming undisputed. But, we’ve got to win them.”

Joshua has never fought Fury and has twice been beaten by Usyk, which set him up for his historic unification attempt in Saudi Arabia. The Watford-born fighter was last in the ring back in March, seeing off Francis Ngannou.

He’s won his last four bouts since back-to-back losses to the Ukrainian and Joshua accepts that he has to overcome several obstacles to get back to the top.

The 34-year-old said: “I’ve got to pick them off one by one. It’s not going to be easy, but that’s my mentality. So come one, come all…He [Dubois] has been in tougher fights, so he becomes hardened. He has worked his way up the ladder, we’ll see what happens in the near future. Wembley, O2, York Hall – wherever they put me, I’m happy to fight. Any venue, I’ll turn up and do my job.”

Dubois meanwhile has come out all guns blazing as he eyes the sport’s biggest prize. He has lost twice in his career – with one of those coming against Usyk – but he’s confident he can see off AJ.

He said: “That’s what I’ve been hearing [that Joshua could be next], so let’s see. [Being world champion] is a dream. From challenging for the world title to getting the chance to win the damn thing outright, that’s what I want. I’ll demolish Joshua. I’ll get even better from here.”

Anthony Joshua returns to Wembley Stadium in September and there are three frontrunners to fill the opposite corner.

The Olympic Gold Medalist come two-time world heavyweight champion has been enjoying a resurgence in his career under the guidance of Ben Davison, bouncing back from two losses to Oleksandr Usyk to go on a run of four wins.

Joshua is positioned well with the sanctioning bodies and has made it clear his current goal in the sport is to become world champ once more.

The simplest route to that looks to be the IBF. Usyk, who now holds all four belts after an incredible victory over Tyson Fury, could be forced to vacate that particular title since a rematch with the Brit will stop him facing his overdue mandatory.

Joshua then was closely linked to face 26-year-old Daniel Dubois, who won the IBF Interim Title from Filip Hrgovic this past weekend.

Speaking to Seconds Out, promoter Eddie Hearn said Dubois was the likely opponent on the condition that the vacant belt was on the line.

Joseph Parker has been angling for a rematch with ‘AJ’ after losing on points back in 2018.Zhilei Zhang is also looking to avenge a loss, his back in the amateur days at the 2012 Olympics.

With both men having recently defeated Deontay Wilder, each has a good case for the Joshua fight, although Parker likely stand ahead given he has also beaten Zhilei Zhang.

Anthony Joshua could face the winner of the Filip Hrgovic and Daniel Dubois fight for the IBF world title at Wembley Stadium on September 21 should it get stripped off Oleksandr Usyk, PUNCH reports.

Usyk outpointed Tyson Fury in Saudi Arabia on May 18 to become the first undisputed heavyweight champion in 24 years, but it was expected that the Ukrainian would soon have the IBF belt taken from him.

The IBF title was expected to be on the line on Saturday, June 1, 2024, when mandatory challenger Filip Hrgovic fought Daniel Dubois in Riyadh, but the IBF decided to create an interim belt for that fight.

As a result, Usyk will keep the official title for the time being, as well as his undisputed status, though it is unclear whether the 37-year-old will be stripped before his rematch with Fury. That bout will take place in Riyadh on December 21.

However, if Usyk is stripped before then, Hrgovic or Dubois will be upgraded to become the official champion. It is also possible that the winner of Hrgovic/Dubois vs. Joshua will be upgraded after their fight instead.

Joshua, a two-time heavyweight champion who was at ringside for the Ukrainian’s split decision win over the Gipsy King, is enjoying a resurgence that began soon after his second consecutive loss to Usyk in 2022: beating Jermaine Franklin, Robert Helenius, Otto Wallin, and Francis Ngannou.

Eddie Hearn thinks the British Nigerian would have left Usyk’s victory over Fury, fancying his chances against both.

“I don’t think he’s that deep,” Hearn said on the True Geordie podcast when asked what would have been going through Joshua’s mind after the bout.

“I think probably deep down, he’s thinking, ‘Well, I lost, especially in the second fight, by a close points decision’.

“By the way, honestly, AJ was 50% of the fighter he is now. You saw in the press conference his reaction in the ring; he wasn’t himself, and I don’t think he was in a great place.

“Now he’s firing on every single cylinder that exists. So he’s watching that fight, thinking, ‘I’d love another crack at Usyk’. He’s thinking, ‘I’d love a fight with Fury, but he did say to me before that fight, ‘Usyk would win on points’ and he was right, in a great fight.”

While Saudi Arabia and its ‘petrodollars’ are clamoring to have the star fight that everyone wants, Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford, former world champion James Toney appeared on the scene and gave his blunt verdict on the possible winner of that fight.

The Saudis, through Turki Alalshikh, the highest authority in the Arab country in charge of training festivals, has set his eye on Crawford after he defeated Errol Spencer Jr at the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise (Nevada, United States) in July 2023.

Since then, the objective of the Asian leader has been to link him with Canelo Alvarez to get the fight to Saudi Arabia by the end of this year or early 2025.

Toney does not back Canelo

Beyond this business desire, the one who came out to give his verdict on the future fight between these huge names was the former champion James Toney, who predicted the worst for the Mexican if he enters the ring with the American.

Toney was interviewed by ‘ES NEWS’ and he did not mince his words and said that Crawford will not only beat Canelo, but will beat him by knockout.

Another who spoke along the same lines was another former champion, Tim Bradley, who expressed the same opinion as Toney and said: “Crawford beats anyone he gets in the ring with. Anybody. Nobody beats Terence.”

Before that supposed fight, Crawford has a bout against Israel Madrimov coming up, in which the WBA and WBO super welterweight titles will be at stake. The fight will be on August 3 in Los Angeles.
