Deontay Wilder is confident that a fight with Anthony Joshua will happen. The former WBC world champion lost to Joseph Parker on points to hamper a clash with the Brit – which was originally signed for March this year.

However, ‘The Bronze Bomber’ is expected to make his comeback against Zhilei Zhang on the 1st of June. A one-of-a-kind boxing event was announced this week as a squad of fighters representing Queensberry Promotions take on boxers from Matchroom in a unique five vs. five event in Saudi Arabia.

Much to the surprise of many boxing fans, Wilder – who was a long-time rival of Eddie Hearn’s prized fighter Joshua – will represent Matchroom.

A win over Zhang in Saudi Arabia could evoke a possible showdown with ‘AJ,’ with the American believing it still could happen in the future.

In a conversation with Fight Hype, George Kambosos insists he’s fully focused on his upcoming bout against Vasiliy Lomachenko but fields some questions about Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis and why he isn’t taking on the best fighters around his weight class. Here’s some of what Kambosos had to say on that subject down below.

Kambosos on who he’d most like to see Gervonta Davis fight

“I would love to see him fight Devin Haney, I would love to see that style matchup. I would love to see Tank step in there with Teofimo Lopez. I would love to see these kind of fights, and I think everybody’s always worried about the loss, the loss, and I think Tank is definitely one of them guys that doesn’t want to lose. I think a loss for him would totally diminish his mindset on what these guys try to do.

“No disrespect to Tank, hell of a fighter. But, again, it’s the public demand, it’s not me. The demand from the fans and the casual fans too — they’re starting to say ‘well, why is this guy not fighting, at 28, 29, why hasn’t he fought a guy like Devin Haney, why has he not fought a guy like Teofimo Lopez?’ Shakur as well. These are the kind of names that you want to see these elite fighters be matched up against.”

Welterweight champion Terence Crawford is calling for the start of a professional boxing union to help fighters secure benefits such as a 401K, pension plans, and health insurance.

“We don’t have a union, but there needs to be one,” Crawford told Bloomberg. “A lot of fighters go broke after they finish fighting and that shouldn’t happen. If a fighter gets seriously damaged or hurt, he or she should have something backing them so they don’t have to look for money to help pay for their medical bills.”

Crawford, the first welterweight boxer to take the top prize in all four professional championships in his weight class, is seeking to change boxing’s labor standards just a couple weeks after he beat Errol Spence Jr in a marquee bout where both fighters entered undefeated. Crawford’s union plan also comes as organized movements around the U.S., from UPS drivers and Hollywood writers and actors, have fought for better contracts and benefits. The NFLPA, MLBPA, and NHLPA have all publicly supported the WGA’s ongoing strike.

“If all of the top fighters with a name and a brand behind them came together, we could make change,” he said.  “We have different races, different ages, different countries — it’s everyone from all walks of life coming together. I think it can be done.”

In January 2022, Crawford filed a lawsuit seeking nearly $10 million against his former promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank, accusing him of racial bias against promoting Black fighters.

“Boxing is one of the most corrupted sports there is and ever [has] been in the history of sports,” Crawford said in another interview with Boardroom. “We’ll take a $5 million guarantee not knowing there’s $30 million dollars that we missed,” he added. “Once I started asking [contract] questions and learning a bit here and there, it became a problem between me and my old promoter, and at that point in time, I knew it was time to go.”

Bill Haney has always had a sharp tongue! But his trash-talking skills lead him to more and more controversies. In a few days, Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia will face each other in the ring to prove once and for all who the better boxer is. However, amid all the excitement, a question about Gervonta Davis prompted Bill Haney to launch an onslaught on the ‘face of boxing.’

A potential fight between ‘The Dream’ and ‘Tank’ has long been hailed as the ultimate clash of the titans. While there’s no sign of the fight actually happening, that hasn’t stopped either party from attacking each other on social media, especially after Garcia leaked the sparring footage between the duo. However, when Haney Sr. was asked about the potential fight recently in an interview, Bill claimed ‘Tank’ doesn’t want to fight while commenting on Davis’ stint with the law.

Bill Haney suggests Davis is nothing more than an attraction for people

Speaking to Fight Hype yesterday in Manhattan, New York, Bill Haney boldly said, “Man, ‘Tank’  [doesn’t] want to fight. ‘Tank’ [Davis doesn’t] represent really fighting and really getting to it, man—you know what I’m saying.” Turning to the Baltimore native’s popularity in the business, Bill Haney suggested he is an attraction for people, and not the best fighter.

“He’s not even close—his resume doesn’t resemble being the best fighter in the world,” said Bill. As to why Davis is so popular with the people, Haney had an interesting theory to prove his bold statement. “I didn’t say [Devin] was the biggest attraction because what people might be attracted to might be a whole lot of felonious s**t that’s going on.”

It’s worth mentioning that Davis has, on several occasions, found himself in the crosshairs of the authorities. While in some cases, the charges were dropped, in others, he actually had to spend jail time. Here’s a timeline of Gervonta Davis’ arrest history!

Gervonta Davis: From abuse to hit-and-run

The Baltimore native has had several run-ins with the law. And everything began back in 2019 when Davis found himself in an altercation with an individual at a mall in McLean, Virginia, that took place on February 17. Following the incident, Davis allegedly got into an argument with a cop and shoved him. He was charged with one count of misdemeanor assault, but the charges were later dropped.

The next incident happened in February 2020, when Davis was charged with simple battery domestic violence. Davis was held on $1,500 bail. However, even this charge was later dropped as the victim withdrew the complaint.

The next major event happened in November 2020 when Davis ran a red light in his 2020 Lamborghini Urus SUV and struck a 2004 Toyota Solara, injuring four people, including a pregnant woman. He was put under house arrest for the incident, but after he decided to break the rules of the house arrest, the judge handling the case handed him a 44-day jail sentence in Baltimore. This case has also been the major reason why Davis hasn’t been able to fight.

With that said, Bill Haney doesn’t seem to have any respect for what Gervonta Davis has managed to accomplish in the sport, as he branded him an attraction because of his rap sheet. What are your thoughts on Bill’s statement? Do you think Davis is a mere attraction?

Devin Haney’s shove of Ryan Garcia has drawn the attention of common enemy Gervonta Davis.

Haney and Garcia met in a first fight-week face-off on top of the Empire State Building ahead of their April 20 showdown, and things turned quickly heated.

The pair came face-to-face and traded insults, before WBC champion Haney grabbed his rival’s neck and shoved him before the respective teams separated the fighters.

Davis, who beat Garcia by stoppage in April 2023, was quick to post a response to the clash, sharing a video of two teenagers fighting with one being dropped by a right hook.

He shared it with the caption: “Two good kids selling it!”

Davis settled his bitter rivalry with Garcia last year, causing him to retire from their fight with a brutal body shot.’

He also has traded words with Haney over a potential all-American mega-fight, but it is unclear whether this will materialise in 2024.

Davis currently holds the WBA title at 135lbs, but could easily move up to 140lbs and chase a fight against Haney.

25-year-old Haney may need to prevent any further incidents from taking place, given he has previously received fines for his actions.

The WBC super-lightweight champion was fined $400,000 by the Nevada State Athletic Commission for shoving Vasyl Lomachenko before his win in May 2023.

Garcia will want to bounce back with a shock win in New York, to revive his ambitions of conquering the sport after his damaging defeat to Davis.

But there have been concerns for Garcia including from his ex-wife, after his bizarre activity on social media in the build-up.

Despite questions being raised by the WBC, Garcia has been cleared to compete in the event.

The winner will get their fourth win over their respective opponent, given Haney and Garcia have fought six times in the amateur ranks with three wins apiece.

And Garcia has made a surprisingly bold prediction for their maiden professional clash, suggesting: “I just have to show up [to win the fight].

“If I wanted to, I could knock him out in the first.

“If you want to make money, bet on a second-round knockout.”

His transition from being controversially dubbed an “email champ” to becoming the undisputed lightweight champion and now a junior welterweight champion showcases his growth and resilience in the sport.

Ryan Garcia, also 25, holds a record of 24-1, with 20 KOs. Despite a setback against Gervonta Davis last year, Garcia has made a strong comeback, most recently knocking out Oscar Duarte. Known for his charisma and presence both in and out of the ring, Garcia remains a formidable contender at lightweight and now at junior welterweight.

Get ready for the epic showdown: Haney vs. Garcia

The fight also carries significant implications for the junior welterweight division, teeming with talents like Teofimo Lopez, Isaac Cruz, and potential future opponents for Haney and Garcia. The outcome of this match could reshuffle the rankings and set up exciting future bouts.

Devin Haney will dispute his World Boxing Council (WBC) super lightweight title this Saturday against Ryan Garcia, in one of the most attractive fights of the year, to be held at the Barclays Center in New York, in a fight of reserved prognosis, since ‘King Ry’ is fighting his first fight for a world championship of his career, after suffering a devastating knockout at the hands of Gervonta Davis, leaving much to be desired in his fight in 2023.

Now, he is looking to show that he is in a position to fight for the big money and that is why he is challenging Haney, considered one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world. He defeated Regis Prograis last December 2023 to win the green and gold belt.

Devin Haney comes into the fight with an undefeated record in 31 fights, while Ryan Garcia lost his unbeaten record a year ago in return for 24 wins.

Who is the favourite to win the fight?

According to bookmakers in Las Vegas, Devin Haney is the favourite to retain his title by decision. Although oddsmakers favour a knockout, technical knockout or disqualification.

For his part, the former undisputed champion of the division, Josh Taylor, chose Haney as favourite because he says he is a more complete fighter: “he has better boxing skills, he can read his opponents very well and he is much smarter,” he said in an interview with Boxing News, while ‘King Ry’ highlighted his great speed in his hands.

“I think they are two good fighters. Garcia has hand speed, not the best boxing IQ, but he’s quick and he’s got good timing with that left hook and he’s fast. I just think Devin Haney has better boxing skills and he’s more complete, he can move, defend or attack as well and he’s very smart,” he said.

He added: “His vision is excellent, his field of vision is excellent and he can read an opponent very well, he’s very good at reading an opponent and reading a fight, so I’m going to go with Devin Haney on this one.”

Other analysts expect Ryan Garcia to pull off the upset, as he knows Haney very well. They met six times in their amateur days, with three wins for each side. However, Haney is coming up in division, from 135 pounds, where he was undisputed champion, with 15 knockouts in his career.

Ryan Garcia, on the other hand, came to this division after knocking out Oscar Duarte and, although he is undefeated, he has 20 knockouts in 24 attempts.

Anthony Joshua has the opportunity to win the IBF title before facing the winner between Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk.

The trick, he has to win against winner Daniel Dubois vs Filip Hrgovic.

As is known, Fury vs Usyk will remove their belt after fighting for the undisputed heavyweight world title on May 18, 2024 in Saudi Arabia.

Meanwhile, Hrgovic has been a mandatory challenger for the IBF title at Oleksandr Usyk’s waist. As a result, Hrgovic vs Dubois’ fight will be his second chance to win the IBF title.

Duel Dubois vs Hrgovic has also been scheduled for June 1, 2024 in Saudi Arabia.

Well, Anthony Joshua was able to get back the IBF belt he had held twice between 2016-2021. However, in order to reclaim the IBF title, he had to beat the winner between Dubois vs Hrgovic.

This means that Joshua has the opportunity to return to have a title before facing the undisputed world heavyweight champion between Fury vs Usyk.

Apart from that, Dubois vs Hrgovic’s fight became the main duel on June 1, 2024.

Dubois is very confident that he can beat Hrgovic. In fact, he was boasted that he could win easily because he had been on the winger against Hrgovic.

“I am very confident, I am ready to prove myself. We argued some time ago and he kept talking about it, but people changed. I am a different animal now,” Dubois told The Sun.

However, boasting that Dubois will soon receive a reaction from Hrgovic. The Croatian boxer wants to prove Dubois’ great talk will not be proven in the ring.

“I hope he changes. Otherwise, it will only last a few rounds. Sparring is not good for him. So I hope he has changed,” Hrgovic said.

In addition to the main match, there were five other duels on Dubois vs Hrgovic’s card. The fight also became a 5 vs 5 duel between promoter Frank Warren and Eddie Hearn in Saudi Arabia.

Another interesting fight will be presented, namely the undisputed light heavyweight champion between Artur Beterbiev vs Dimitry Bivol.

Then, there is Nick Ball vs Raymond Ford in the race for the featherweight world champion. The other three fights are Hamzah Sheeraz vs Ammo duel, Craig Richards vs Willy Hutchinson, and Deontay Wilder vs Zhilei Zhang.

Malik Scott is the latest name to give his thoughts.

After the original fight date got cancelled, it’s full steam ahead for the undisputed heavyweight title fight between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk.

The pair will meet on May 18 in Riyadh live on DAZN PPV for all four heavyweight titles in what is one of, if not the biggest fight of 2024.

This is a contest which has captured the imagination of the boxing world with the hard-hitting Fury coming up against the slick Usyk who was once an undisputed champion at cruiserweight.

However, when speaking to iFL TV, Deontay Wilder’s trainer Malik Scott has claimed that Fury will be looking to come in the contest at a lighter weight which could prove the difference.

“I was going with Usyk, then I’ve seen Tyson Fury 30lbs lighter and it changed my mind,” Scott said.

“He was moving and looking like the old Fury, the lighter Fury that to me is the best Fury and not as vulnerable.

“I’m sitting here and looking at the both of them on a poster and it’s a very good fight. You’ve got Usyk as the southpaw and you know what he brings, then you’ve got Tyson and we all know what he brings when he’s in shape and he’s mentally tough which is the majority of the time.”

Scott has previous experience when it comes to facing Fury. He was in Wilder’s corner for the thrilling trilogy fight against Fury three years ago, but it was a contest which resulted in Wilder being stopped in the eleventh round.

We knew the Tyson Fury versus Oleksandr Usyk heavyweight world title fight was attracting worldwide attention. We didn’t realise that stretched all the way to the Vatican!

The Pope has signed and blessed the title belt that Fury and Usyk will box for on May 18.

Britain’s Fury and Ukraine’s Usyk will contest the first undisputed heavyweight title bout in 25 years, fighting for the WBC, WBO, WBA and IBF heavyweight championships live on Sky Sports Box Office.

The WBC has commissioned a new title belt for the Fury vs Usyk fight, with Ukrainian and British emblems on either strap. WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman took the belt to the Pope, who blessed and signed it.

“Pope Francis has a foundation,” Sulaiman told Sky Sports. “I learned there was a programme called Football with Values. I proposed to the Pope to do Boxing with Values. So he accepted, immediately embraced boxing.

“Since that day we have been doing a lot of activations and training and going out trying to teach values through boxing with thousands of people around the world.
