Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis is one of the new breakout stars of boxing.

The Philadelphia fighter recently signed with Matchroom and got his latest win at home in front of the largest crowd in the city for many years. His impressive fifth-round stoppage of former European champion David Avanesyan was his 29th knockout from 32 fights overall and was the first defence of his IBF welterweight belt.

On a similar level are Shakur Stevenson and Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis, two lightweight belt holders who have long been linked with fighting each other.

‘Tank’ is an all-action knockout artist and pay-per-view star, while Stevenson is more of a technical fighter who often takes a safety-first approach on his way to patient wins, and that has brought some ire from fans in recent times.

Speaking to Cigar Talk, ‘Boots’ was asked about how a fight between the two might go and, like many, found it a hard one to call.

A possible unification fight between the two just moved a step close after Vasiliy Lomachenko pulled out of negotiations to fight ‘Tank’ next.

Alot of high-profile boxers are currently in holding patterns when it comes to deciding what their next moves will be. Canelo Alvarez still doesn’t have an opponent for September. No one knows what Devin Haney might do after the Ryan Garcia debacle. And Gervonta Davis just saw a potential opponent, Vasiliy Lomachenko, fall through.

That last big name is of particular importance to Shakur Stevenson, who is coming off of a recent victory and needs a notable win to stave off the criticism. Fighting and beating Tank would certainly accomplish that, and it sounds like Stevenson is open and willing to making it happen.

Shakur Stevenson waiting for Tank Davis to make the call

It appears that Stevenson wants it badly, but it will come down to the numbers, as is usually the case when two elite boxers try to plan a fight. We’ll see if both sides can make sacrifices and come to a compromise some time within the next couple of months.

Stevenson’s co-manager, Josh Dubin, spoke to BoxingScene on Tuesday and revealed that they’re just waiting on Davis to come through.

Gervonta Davis and Vasiliy Lomachenko were all set to ramp up negotiations for a lightweight unification fight before the latter pulled out due to a lack of motivation.

The elite Ukrainian recently won the vacant IBF World Title by being the first man to stop George Kambosos Jr, a win that lined up well with ‘Tank’ Davis successfully defending his new WBA belt against Frank Martin by knockout.

The door was open then for a clash between the champions – something Lomachenko wanted years prior – and Bob Arum’s Top Rank said initial talks were positive. Things changed when Lomachenko’s manager, Egis Klimas, said his fighter wouldn’t be out again this year as he wasn’t motivated.

Speaking to Sean Zittel, Hall of Fame fighter turned analyst Time Bradley was full of praise for the Ukrainian but couldn’t call the move anything other than a ‘duck.’

Bradley went on to say that the three-weight world champion, at 36-years-old, may call it a day – although word from his camp suggests otherwise.

Gervonta Davis may now target a unification with WBC Champion Shakur Stevenson.

Just as in reel-life, perhaps, in real-life too, the reality was hidden till ‘The Matrix’ lasted. In the battle of the southpaws, as things stand, Gervonta Davis and Shakur Stevenson remain the last men standing. Over a year after he returned to the ring, the Baltimorean didn’t take much time to prove why he is one of the ‘faces of boxing’. In a trademark style, he dispatched Frank Martin at the MGM Grand last month. A lightweight champion since 2019, it was time to aim for a bigger target. A title unification? But that meant crossing paths with fellow champions Vasyl Lomachenko, Shakur Stevenson, and Denis Berinchyk.

As days moved, talks of a fight with the Ukrainian Olympic gold medalist gained strength. But sadly, the hype didn’t last long. The latter, as reports suggest, decided to sit back and reportedly spend time with the family. For sure, it left the boxing world and the fans bewildered. But time did not permit the indulgence of outrage for long. Enter the Newark-born Southpaw. It appears the green light has been met with a reciprocal move. Time to move on for a fight everyone longed for.

A Bout for the Ages: Gervonta Davis vs. Shakur Stevenson

Boxing Kingdom shared a message that both the Gervonta Davis and Shakur Stevenson teams have been showing positive vibes for a potential fight in the future. “The two have sparred hundreds of rounds over recent years, including one 20-minute round in a Baltimore Gym, in 2017,” it read further.

Fans might as well go back to Frank Martin post-fight presser. Remember what Gervonta Davis said when asked about a fight against Shakur Stevenson? It looks like a thing of the past now. Speaking at ‘Mill City Boxing,’ even his longtime trainer Kenny Ellis sounded quite hopeful that a match against the Rio Olympics silver medalist seems the next logical step following the ‘Loma’ fallout.

Despite many people doubting him, Jake Paul obtained his tenth victory in his short boxing career on Saturday night in Las Vegas, this time against Mike Perry. He may have finally silenced many of his critics, because questions about the quality of his opponents have lingered since he began his boxing journey. Doubts about Mike Perry’s boxing experience and the size difference between them still persist even though before the fight many people thought Paul was meant to lay on the ground.

And it is obviously a matter of envy, he has become a problem for his haters over the years, with ambitions being higher than the Everest, the Ohio native seeks greater challenges. However, the YouTuber-turned-boxer seems to be gaining support from unexpected quarters, even from the top echelons of contemporary boxing.

Not a YouTuber anymore

Terence Crawford admitted he took time out his busy agenda to watch the event. The MMA Hour interviewer Ariel Helwani asked him about this topic and he stated: “Yes, I did watch the event”. He also explained how aside from a few issues like improving his stamina, he has been commendably improving his game, praising Paul’s boxing abilities. At the end of the day, he is not a typical YouTuber anymore, the guy trains hard and remains focused on the sport.

Crawford is ten days away from his light middleweight debut against Israil Madrimov at Los Angeles’ BMO Stadium. He is eager to leave a mark in a third weight class. But wants to exceed his limits too, and has a bigger target for the future, Canelo Álvarez.

Next weekend will be a big one for boxing, and it’s due to one man only. Terence “Bud” Crawford will be back in action and in the ring for the first time since his epic win over Errol Spence Jr. last July, in which he became undisputed at welterweight.

It took a long time, but Crawford’s follow-up fight was confirmed in April. Crawford will be moving up in weight to 154 pounds, and he will face Israil Madrimov for the Uzbek’s WBA super welterweight belt. Although everyone at 147 still wants a shot at Crawford, his eyes are set on higher weights. Although this upcoming bout will be at 154, the plan is to keep going up and up.

Bud Crawford wants the glory and the money

That is, until he gets to Canelo Alvarez‘s weight. In Crawford’s eyes, that’s still the fight he wants. He revealed as much during an interview with Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour.

When asked if Alvarez could be his next opponent: “Could be, could be, we’re gonna have to see. One fight at a time.

Crawford says he would go all the way up 168 pounds for the fight to happen. It would be a massive jump after fighting at 147 for the past five years, but that’s the sacrifice he would have to make for the biggest bout of his life.

The professional boxer talked to MMA Fighting about many topics, including last Saturday?s fight between Jake Paul and Mike Perry

Despite many people doubting him, Jake Paul obtained his tenth victory in his short boxing career on Saturday night in Las Vegas, this time against Mike Perry. He also addressed the possibility of Paul facing Mike TysonHe is not too keen on this one happening at all. “I wouldn’t want to see Mike go in the ring and get hurt in a fight, recent medical issues have complicated matters” he said. “He has contributed so much to the sport that i would not feel comfortable at all”.

They also talked about Paul’s future plans, possibly aiming for a championship fight or competing in the cruiserweight division. Crawford acknowledged Paul’s powerful right hand but noted that Paul is building his resume like any other boxing prospect, starting from scratch. He mentioned that well-known names often try to latch onto Paul’s name for the spotlight and payday. “Jake is still in the learning process… so he’s taking his time, and that’s what he should do: take his time, keep getting better, keep learning new tricks in the ring, and gaining more experience”.

This years are really important for Jake to build his experience and boxing techniques to become a better boxer, and it is only a matter of time whether we see his success or his failure.

Anthony Joshua has the opportunity to become a three-time heavyweight champion when he faces newly-elevated IBF titlist Daniel Dubois on September 21.

The 26-year-old was upgraded from Interim to Full Champion when formerly-undisputed Oleksandr Usyk – who has beaten both men – vacated the belt. His first defence is against countryman ‘AJ’, who lost his unified titles to Usyk back in 2021 and has been on the rebuild ever since defeat in the rematch.

Heavyweight stalwart Derek Chisora, who is another former opponent of Usyk, revealed the advice he gave his friend ‘AJ’ in an interview with Box Nation.

Dubois comes into the bout with confidence after the Jarrell Miller and Hrgovic wins, showing levels grit and heart that many previously said he didn’t have in his arsenal. Joshua is coming off stoppage wins over Otto Wallin and Francis Ngannou.

Asked for a prediction, Chisora simply said the fight would end in the first half.

Dubois and Joshua top a stacked card in Riyadh Season’s first promotional effort on British shores.
