In a candid interview following his recent defeat in the boxing ring, former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou spoke openly about the challenges he faced during his bout against Anthony Joshua.

The fight, which took place at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, saw Ngannou suffer a second-round knockout at the hands of the British boxer, marking a significant moment in his nascent boxing career.

Despite entering the fight with confidence bolstered by a commendable debut against Tyson FuryNgannou found himself overpowered by Joshua‘s experience and skill. A pivotal moment occurred in the first round when Joshua landed a powerful straight right, sending Ngannou to the mat.

Although he managed to finish the round, the initial knockdown proved to be a harbinger of what was to come. Ngannou was ultimately unable to mount a significant challenge before being decisively taken down with another right hand in the second round, ending the match at 2:38.

Reflecting on the fight, Ngannou revealed a startling detail to Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour. He confessed that his recollection of the events between the rounds is nonexistent.

“My memory and my vision kept going,” Ngannou said. “I don’t remember when I came back from the stool to go to the second round.

“From the stool, in between rounds, I wasn’t there anymore. Some days are just not your day and you can’t explain what happened. It was quite weird.”

Despite the loss and its accompanying concerns, Ngannou remains resolute, expressing no regrets over his performance or strategy, including his decision to fight in a southpaw stance, a choice he defends as being instrumental in his prior success against Tyson Fury.

“I do not have any regrets,” Ngannou asserted. “Now that I lost the fight, we can say anything that I’ve done wrong.

“We worked on everything, and everything was OK. This was all my choice [going southpaw]. Even in southpaw, my defense is more sharp than orthodox.

“In the southpaw, to take a hit from the right back hand, this is something that in sparring never happened, and I’ve been there so many times practicing. With the same southpaw, I think we basically won the fight against Tyson [Fury].”

Ngannou’s future in the ring

Looking ahead, Ngannou‘s passion for boxing remains undimmed. While some fans and observers might worry about the implications of his memory loss on his future in the sport, the fighter is keen on returning to the boxing ring before stepping back into the MMA octagon.

As Ngannou contemplates his next moves, the combat sports community watches with a mix of admiration and concern, hopeful for his success and safety in whichever arena he chooses to compete next.

British-Nigerian boxer Patricia Mbata comes from the famed Finchley and District Amateur Boxing Club, the same place where Anthony Joshua began his amateur career. Mbata has mentioned how Joshua has been supportive of her and it was again evident after she won a gold medal at the African Games.

Taking to his Instagram story, Anthony Joshua shared a picture of Patricia Mbata and other medal winners standing at the podium. “Our @finchleyabc CHAMP,” wrote on the IG Story. Below his message, there was a picture of To the bottom, just above a Nigerian flag where he added, “Nigeria Stand Up.” Akon‘s ‘Mama Africa’ could be heard running in the background. The story was tagged with the original post shared by the Nigerian athlete.

In Mbata’s post, she had written, “All African Games Champion 2024. Lovely jubbly! What a brilliant tournament to bring home gold, having my name go down in history as the newly crowned All African Champion and defeating IBA World Champion in True Mbata style along the way.

In the 75-kg weight class, after defeating Rady Adosinda Gramane of Mozambique, Mbata defeated Ben Marbrouk Molka of Tunisia by points to secure an eight gold medal in boxing for Nigeria at the African Games. The 2023 All-Africa Games, also called the Pan-Africa Games, took place in Accra, the capital of Ghana, from March 8 to March 23. Over two thousand athletes participated in the event. In the end, Egypt took home the top honors. With 47 gold, 33 silver, and 40 bronze medals, Nigeria stood second.

The 28-year-old Mbata has been boxing for nearly five years and is hopeful of securing her passage to the 2024 Paris Olympics during the Africa Boxing Olympic Qualifiers running from 9-15 September.

Patricia Mbata, like Joshua, is a British boxer of Nigerian descent. The former heavyweight champion remains an idol she looks up to always. Incidentally, she receives her training at the famed Finchley Amateur Boxing Club (Finchley ABC), which ‘AJ’ used to frequent during his initial years as an amateur boxer. The middleweight boxer fought her debut fight on December 7, 2019 and has talked about Joshua’s influence on her career.

“My ethos similar to Josh,” Mbata on taking inspiration from AJ

In an interview with Olympics.com, Patricia Mbata talked about how Anthony Joshua’s journey inspires her. She said, “We started off at the same club. And it’s just very inspiring because, you’ve got someone that started at the same like pretty much any other boxer, but he’s just excelled, his career throughout amateurs and the pro game. And you can kind of see a path as to where your journey could be.”

Mbata also mentioned that Joshua often interacts with her and other boxers when he pays a visit to the famous Finchley gym, located in Barnet, UK. She revealed, “We’re always having conversations when I see him, and he’s always just saying, ‘just do it, just do it’. And I feel as if I have that same philosophy of life. My mentality and my ethos and what I believe in is very similar to what Josh (Anthony Joshua) advises people – ‘just do it’.”

Mbata is continuing her rise up the boxing ladder and has the support of her fans alongside Anthony Joshua. Joshua will hope to cheer her on at the Paris Olympics with a short immortality awaiting Mbata, if she qualifies.

Jake Paul’s bold comments on boxing have stirred the pot again. This time, it’s about Ryan Garcia’s defeat. Garcia, floored by Gervonta Davis with a body shot, couldn’t rise on 20th April 2023. The moment was intense, and pivotal in the bout’s outcome. Meanwhile, Paul gears up for an unexpected ring return on 20th July.

His opponent? Boxing legend Mike Tyson. Yes, Tyson, 30 years older than Paul, is stepping back into the fray. Could Paul’s critique of Garcia come back to haunt him? Fans definitely are making him regret that.

Problem Child makes his pick for the Ryan Garcia vs. Devin Haney fight

Jake Paul didn’t mince words on the B/S Podcast. The conversation unfolded with the co-host probing, “What do you think the odds are that the fight with him and Devin Haney actually goes through and happens?” Without hesitation, Paul estimated, “I would say it’s like a 50-50.” But it was his next remark that turned heads. When asked about his pick for the fight, Paul declared, “Devin. He’s gonna smoke him.”

He elaborated, criticizing Garcia’s dedication and heart. “One person who’s been in the gym taking the sport seriously, Ryan, isn’t taking it seriously,” he argued, “and he showed me his lack of heart by not getting up off the canvas when he basically quit.” The conversation didn’t end there. Touching upon a potential future matchup with Ryan Garcia, Paul expressed, “As like an exhibition, probably. I would love to just like deflate his little 130 pounds.” This candid exchange set the stage for the uproar to follow, as Paul’s stark assessments ignited a firestorm of reactions

Would Ryan Garcia cook Jake Paul?

Firstly, one fan expressed disdain, highlighting the irony in Paul’s critique, “Jake has no room to talk about lack of heart shown in a fight while he’s about to fight a 60-year-old man 😤.” Next, another fan reminded everyone of Paul’s own ring challenges, “Dude, you lost to Love Island Tommy Fury.” This comment cut to the core of Paul’s credibility, questioning his standing to critique others after his own defeats.

Furthermore, another fan offered a blunt prediction, “He’d cook you Jake, even with the weight difference.” This highlighted doubts about Paul’s capability to withstand fighters like Garcia, despite the bravado. This fan added a touch of humor to the critique, “If dude got hit with that same body shot he’d probably be in the hospital straight up😂.”

Whereas this person summed up the community’s sentiment with biting sarcasm, “Lack of heart but dude is gonna fight someone 30 years older than him😂😂😂😂😂.” This underscored the perceived absurdity of Paul’s upcoming bout with Tyson, contrasting it with his criticism of Garcia’s performance.

With success comes rivalries, and Gervonta Davis knows that quite well! Whether it’s Devin HaneyRyan Garcia, or Shakur Stevenson, everyone wants a piece of Davis’ fame. In a recent pinch, an old sparring clip of the Baltimore native and rising bantamweight star Elijah Pierce surfaced online, resulting in a heated back-and-forth between the fighters.

Currently, Davis is rumored to be on a collision course with fellow lightweight boxer Frank Martin this summer. However, nothing is official yet. On the other hand, Pierce is set to fight Arthur Villanueva from the Philippines.

Gervonta Davis accuses Elijah Pierce of leaking their sparring footage, amid back and forth

Turning to Instagram, Overtime Boxing shared the clip with the caption, “Elijah & Tank sparring back in the day. Great work from both guys.” When the 27-year-old boxer discovered the post later, he quickly tried to defend the knockdown shown in the clip. Elijah commented on the post, “Sorry to disappoint the Tank Franks, but that wasn’t me he dropped. [It] was my sparring partner—check again. [I] already debunked this, lol.”

However, ‘Tank’ Davis disagreed—in a now-deleted comment on the post, Davis wrote, “I knocked you out cold. And when I see you [I will] do it again. Since you [want to] keep sending this bull***t clip out.” Responding to Davis’ comment, Elijah mocked Davis’ claim that he knocked him out, suggesting he didn’t leak the sparring clip. Meanwhile, Davis himself confirmed his next fight date, albeit the identity of his opponent remains murky at best.

‘Tank’ Davis answers fan’s request

Since defeating Ryan Garcia last April via seventh-round knockout, the WBA lightweight champion has been collecting dust on the sidelines. However, since 2024 rolled, people have been abuzz about his comeback. At first, it was Conor Benn, but Davis didn’t like the offer Eddie Hearn made for the fight, so that was quickly scrapped.

However, some chatter revealed Davis may face his undefeated counterpart, Frank Martin, in the summer. While there’s no concrete evidence that Martin will be his next opponent, the month of the fight is finally confirmed. On March 21, a fan asked Davis about his next fight on X, and Davis simply responded by writing, “June.”

Ben Davison would prefer Anthony Joshua enter a third fight with Oleksandr Usyk over a first with Tyson Fury.

Under Davison’s tutelage, following impressive stoppage victories over Otto Wallin and Francis Ngannou – opponents Fury struggled with – Joshua has returned to contention to fight for a world heavyweight title having agreed to box the winner of this year’s two undisputed title fights between Usyk and Fury.

Davison was similarly influential in Fury’s return from retirement when he guided him into the risky fight with Deontay Wilder that revived his career, and having since split from the WBC heavyweight champion and more recently been recruited by Joshua, he is potentially on course to confront an opponent he considers a friend.

Fury, at 35 one year older than Joshua, continues to speak positively about Davison’s qualities. It is also tempting to believe that Joshua partly wanted to be trained by him because he already had a future date with Fury in mind.

Davison, however, having enhanced his reputation with Fury and Joshua more than any other fighter, believes that after having helped Joshua rediscover his confidence – he didn’t go as far as to say he wanted Usyk to beat Fury – it is a fight with Usyk, twice victorious over Joshua, he would relish most.

“That’s the fight that we’d love to do,” the trainer said. “We’d love to get a chance to help Joshua put that right.

“I don’t know [if it’s also the fight Joshua wants most]. I don’t think he’s fussed. I think he’s a boxer; he gets matched and he’s happy to kick some a*** either way.

“We’re miles away from it at the minute, because Tyson’s got to fight Usyk – potentially a rematch – so, yeah, we’re still steps away from that. We’ll see [how I feel about preparing Joshua for Fury]. When the time comes around, if the time comes around, we’ll see.

“This deal – obstacle – is in the way for that fight to even be made. To be honest, I still feel like I haven’t managed to recover since that [Joshua-Ngannou] fight. So I haven’t thought about it.”

Joshua had been inactive for nine months the first time he fought Usyk – who will be 37 when in May in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia he fights Fury – and 11 months ahead of their rematch in August 2022.

“There was massive gaps between the first Usyk fight; the second Usyk fight,” Davison continued. “The activity is key, and I think that’s helped him. Get back-to-back training camps; develop his skills. He spent a lot of time with a lot of different trainers; he’s developed other areas of his game, and that’s played a part in him finally getting to where he’s got to.

“It’s a lot of pressure. A lot of work gets put into the build-up. Flights – we had a nightmare getting back [from Riyadh] with a 10, 11-hour delay, and then straight back to work. I didn’t get a chance to have a rest. It’s a hectic schedule at the minute, so I’m still trying to recover.

“It’s not us, it’s [Joshua who deserves the credit for his improved performances]. All we’ve done is just help him. He’s a two-time unified heavyweight champion of the world – an Olympic gold medallist. All we’ve done is help him select the right tools for the job. That’s him. He’s gone out there and done it.

“He’s had confidence in the selection of tools, so to speak; he’s gone out there and done the job. I think the activity as well has played a part.”

Earlier today, Tyson Fury shared a picture of himself, showing two cuts above his right eye—one over and the other below the brow. From his very appearance, it might appear that he has received a fresh injury. As fans might remember, back in February, a sparring injury resulted in the postponement of the February 17 clash with Oleksandr Usyk. Old images suggest the previous cut occurred below the eyebrow. So is the one on top, and fairly longer, a fresh one? Nonetheless, the photo stands a good chance of sparking off fresh fears over the future of the fight on May 18.

Along with the picture, Fury’s caption had a cryptic message. He said that he isn’t a novice when it comes to dealing with cuts. Some of the fans who commented don’t seem enthused either. Fury last fought a tough ten-rounder against Francis Ngannou last October. Usyk, on the other hand, comes off a unification title defense against Daniel Dubois. The two are set to meet at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Only two days ago, he had shared a fresh update from the training camp. Walking alongside his trainer, Kristian Backlock, Tyson Fury could be heard checking for a rundown on his training. “Talking about cuts, I’m no stranger to um!” said the WBC heavyweight champion. The photograph shows him staring at the camera. Both cuts appear fresh. With dried blood splattered on his face, and him seen gritting his teeth.

But then a few followers seemed doubtful whether it was a fresh picture. One user wished that it shouldn’t be a recent one: “I really hope this isn’t recent.” They received quite a few replies, with most voicing out that it was from the Otto Wallin fight.

‘The Gypsy King’ fought a non-title bout against the Swedish heavyweight on September 14, 2019. He won the match unanimously. However, the clash is famous for the injuries he suffered.

Tyson Fury and The Scar(y) Story

In the third round, Wallin’s left hook opened a gash over Fury’s right eye. Later, in the fifth round, a head clash between the two caused a cut over the right eyelid. After the ringside physician’s review, the Mancunian was allowed to continue. But then a few other users didn’t hesitate to sound off the alarm bell. “Lets ready for after-fight excuse,” said one.

By the looks of it and from the messages, it appears that Tyson Fury has shared an old image from the Otto Walling fight. However, from several other comments, it is evident that it has caused concern among quite a few fans. The undisputed face-off emerged after overcoming numerous challenges. Therefore, it’s a fight fans are unlikely to dismiss so easily.

As the sport evolves and new contenders emerge with the quest to become the best boxers in the world. However, it’s a revolving door as a loss or a change in weight class shakes up the rankings of the pound-for-pound best. While the sport boasts a rich history filled with legendary figures and seasoned veterans who once dominated the ring, the focus remains on the current crop of top-tier boxers who redefine excellence with their unparalleled skill, unique fighting styles, and impressive winning records.

These modern-day pugilists inherit the legacy of their predecessors while forging their own path to greatness, captivating fans with their extraordinary talents and unwavering dedication to the sport. With each passing year and decade, the torch is passed from one generation of boxing stars to the next, as today’s champions strive to surpass the feats of those who came before them.

1Terence Crawford Is A Boxing Genius

‘Bud’ Can Change His Style And Stance To Exploit His Opponents Weaknesses

Over the last 24 hours, it’s gone from crisis to Christmas for unbeaten WBO super welterweight champion Tim Tszyu, who takes on Sebastian Fundora at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on March 30.

When Tszyu’s original opponent, Keith Thurman, pulled out Monday because of injury, the unbeaten Australian would have been crestfallen. However, Fundora stepped in almost immediately, which led to the vacant WBC title being put up for grabs. And the good news keeps on coming.

On Monday, The Ring’s Jake Donavan reported that boxing superstar Terence Crawford has exercised his right to be installed as the WBO’s No. 1 challenger at 154 pounds. As that sanctioning organization’s welterweight “super champion,” Crawford benefits from the following clause in the WBO’s regulations:

SECTION 14. SUPER CHAMPIONS: (2) ELIGIBILITY TO BE CONSIDERED FOR DESIGNATION AS THE MANDATORY CHALLENGER IN HIGHER OR LOWER DIVISION. If requested by a Super Champion, the Championship Committee may designate the Super Champion as the mandatory challenger for the higher or lower division.

The Sporting News now takes a look at a potential Terence Crawford vs. Tim Tszyu fight:

Why is Terence Crawford moving up in weight?

Crawford (40-0, 31 KOs) was contractually obligated to face Errol Spence Jr. in a rematch. However, Spence underwent cataract surgery and the deadline for the sequel expired.

With Spence out of the equation, Crawford called out the significantly larger undisputed super middleweight champ Canelo Alvarez. However, “Bud” does not appear to be in the Mexican hero’s immediate plans, and none of the other welterweights, including IBF champ Jaron “Boots” Ennis, interest him.

Reading between the lines, Crawford will now target the super welterweight division in a bid to become a four-weight world champion.

Will Tim Tszyu fight Terence Crawford?

Tszyu has shown a propensity to chase down the best in the business. For years, he called for a match against then-undisputed super welterweight champion Jermell Charlo, only to be let down more than once.

Should he come through Fundora, Tszyu will be a unified world champion and the consensus best fighter in the 154-pound division. The next logical step in terms of legacy would be a career-defining superfight.

From what we know of Tszyu, he’ll grab the Crawford showdown with both hands.

Where would a Terence Crawford vs. Tim Tszyu fight take place?

The fight is something of a perfect storm.

Crawford’s sensational win over Spence saw him become the first undisputed welterweight champion in 18 years. He was also anointed the finest pound-for-pound fighter in the world by both The Ring and The Sporting News. As a result, he’s hotter than ever.

Crawford vs. Spence took place in Las Vegas, and it was a solid financial success. Tszyu is about to make his Las Vegas debut, and now would be the perfect time to turn in a statement performance. If the unbeaten Australian can blast his way through Fundora, then Las Vegas is sure to be all-in for Crawford vs. Tszyu.

Failing that, Australia would welcome this fight. The Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane hosted Manny Pacquiao vs. Jeff Horn in 2017 and produced the highest attendance for a boxing match in Australia (51,026). A bout between Crawford and Tszyu could give that number a run for its money.

Who wins Tim Tszyu vs. Terence Crawford?

Crawford is a generational great and would open as a big favorite. While the American is 35 years old now, there was absolutely no sign of decline in his punch-perfect triumph over Spence.

Tszyu, 29, is a brilliant young fighter and the best is yet to come from the unbeaten star. While it’s difficult to envision him outboxing Crawford, his true weapon in this fight is punching power. Bud has never been hit by a big 154-pounder, and Tszyu has a 70-percent knockout percentage.

The logical pick is Crawford, but stranger things have happen

According to Tyson Fury’s promoter, Frank Warren, the Gypsy King and Anthony Joshua will likely meet in Saudi Arabia next year, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Warren believes Fury and Oleksandr Usyk will fight twice this year, leaving Joshua waiting until 2025 as he thinks the finances involved in the undisputed title bout, a reported £100m for the victor, means the loser will trigger a rematch.

“Next March, if Tyson does what I believe he’ll do and AJ continues to win, I’m sure that’ll set up a big fight,” Warren told Sky Sports.

“It’s like going back to the late 60s, 70s, that’s what’s happening now. These guys are all fighting each other.”

Fury and Joshua could well meet twice. Eddie Hearn revealed earlier this week that they could sign a two-fight deal, with one of the bouts taking place at Wembley Stadium.

Warren believes they will have to clash at least once in the Middle East for pure financial reasons saying, “I’ve got to be honest, I think that is where it will go. Of course, I’d like them in the UK.

“I look back when I was younger – all those many, many, many years ago – I look at all those really great fighters like Muhammad Ali, George Foreman, where did they put their big fight on? The Rumble in the Jungle [in what was then Zaire]. Where did George Foreman fight Frazier? In Jamaica. The Thriller in Manila. That’s what happens. Because they went where the money is.

“Those fights I mentioned took place in places you’d never dream of boxing taking place. Traditionally it would have either gone to New York, then it became Vegas with the casinos.

“They’re professional sportsmen. And boxers, unlike most sportsmen their career is very limited. One on your block and it can be all over. So you’ve got to make hay while the sun shines.’

Joshua needs to fill his time and find somebody to fight before Fury.

After beating Francis Ngannou, some possible options are Filip Hrgovic, Deontay Wilder, and Joseph Parker.

Jake Paul is gearing up to face Mike Tyson on July 20 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas! Meanwhile, as the fight night draws ever so closer, the banter between the two fighters is heating up. Despite all the criticism about the outrageous age gap between the two, ‘The Problem Child’ is business as usual.

Turning to social media today, the YouTuber turned boxer took a sly dig at Tyson. However, the former ‘Baddest Man on the Planet’ is no stranger to some trash talk, and he swiftly responded with a dig of his own. Seeing this unfold, the fans could not hold in their excitement as they expressed their thoughts in the comments. Here’s what happened!

Mike Tyson reminds Paul of the reality

Earlier today, Jake Paul shared a couple of images of the duo from their promotional video alongside a caption that read, “The greatest heavyweight boxer on the planet and Mike Tyson.” It was, of course, Paul trying to get a rise out of Tyson since the young boxer is not even a heavyweight boxer. Nevertheless, he got what he wanted.

Soon afterward, ‘Iron’ Mike discovered the post and reminded Paul of how his opponents felt before facing him in the ring. He wrote, “Everyone has a plan until I punch ’em in the mouth.” This savage response was enough for Tyson’s devoted followers to create a ruckus in the comment section.

Fan thinks Jake Paul is delusional for thinking he could beat Tyson

Both Jake Paul and Mike Tyson’s online following is no joke, so it’s no surprise that a tsunami of fans flooded in to react to Tyson’s epic comeback. One user urged ‘Iron’ Mike to destroy Jake Paul. The user wrote, “Whoop some a**, Iron Mike.” No matter how fans envision the fight to end, the scary reality is Paul has a splendid chance of creating an upset.

Another user seemed worried about ‘The Problem Child’ as they requested Tyson to leave Paul’s ear alone. “Just leave his ears alone, big dog,” the user commented. The remark was a sarcastic call back to when Tyson bit off Evander Holyfield’s ear.

Someone else highlighted Paul’s delusion about beating Tyson in a fight. “He really thinks he’s gonna beat Mike Tyson,” wrote the user. Even though the boxer holds a god-like status in boxing, it’s important to remember that Paul has faced and defeated other older opponents in the past.

Meanwhile, one user put it best to describe Paul’s predicament ahead of the fight. The user wrote, “You woke the god of war. Time to bring the heat, baby!”

The next user revealed the stark difference between most people and Jake Paul. “Most people respect their elders.. Jake trying to beat em up,” wrote the user. In fact, Paul has built his career by doing that!
