The undisputed middleweight champion has been mentioned as a possible opponent for the American.

Undisputed super middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez is being linked with some huge fights in 2024.

One of those is a possible matchup with Terence Crawford who is considered to be a pound-for-pound great.

Crawford has not fought since beating Errol Spence last July to become the undisputed title holder at 147lbs, and while there has been a strong possibility that he will face Spence next in a rematch, the prospect of a clash with Alvarez has never gone away.

The only stumbling block so far for an Alvarez vs. Crawford matchup is the latter would having to step up three weight classes to face the Mexican, but now this fantasy matchup seems dead in the water after Alvarez dismissed the idea of a meeting with Crawford in an interview with Box Azteca.

“No,” Canelo responded when asked about a possible meeting with Crawford.

Alvarez then explained his reasoning and claimed that he would gain nothing from a fight with Crawford.

“So now if you imagine Crawford as a welterweight. 168lbs, I have everything to lose and nothing to gain because if I win, they’ll say, ‘Oh, he was too small, and everything!”

While a fight with Crawford does not feature in Alvarez’s plans, he did reveal that he will be returning to the ring on May 4 in Las Vegas against an unknown opponent.

Is it Canelo Alvarez or Gervonta Davis? You can argue over who is the face of boxing. But it’s Devin Haney who has laid claim to the coveted tag. The American knows he will settle the debate once he beats Ryan Garcia on April 20. But does he check all the boxes? He certainly thinks so.

‘The Dream’ and ‘KingRy’ finally agreed to put the WBC super lightweight title on the line after the latter went on an opponent screening spree and lastly returned to Haney. Besides the golden strap, the future star of boxing is also up for grabs for the two superstars hailing from California. While Haney boasts a stacked resume after defeating George Kambosos Jr. and Vasiliy Lomachenko, he believes he has all the criteria fulfilled. But has he?

Devin Haney set to edge out others

The WBC champion discussed the implications of the Garcia fight when he sat down with Sofia Gutierrez. When asked how the fight would steer his career, Haney revealed it carried deeper implications. Haney said, I mean, it’s going to catapult me.

The 25-year-old has been labeled a no-draw because of the rumored low PPV sales of his last few fights. In addition, his defensive and technical style also doesn’t draw fans’ attention. Reportedly, he only sold 50k PPVs when he clinched the WBC title from Regis Prograis.

Devin Haney

However, the fight with Garcia will rack up better PPV numbers, as Garcia has a larger fan base and sold 1.1 million PPVs in his fight with Gervonta Davis. The fight might help Haney shed his non-crowd-pulling fighter tag, an affair that he believes will be “fireworks.”

‘The Dream’ eager to prove his greatness against Ryan Garcia

The sparks of their childhood rivalry have been ignited, and the fight has been in the making for a long time. When asked what fans could expect, he declared, “Fireworks. You know, it’s been a long time coming. We’re three and three in the amateurs, and, you know, this is number seven.”

“So this is the time to seal the deal. To prove who is the better man and who has gotten since the amateurs. Who has developed into the pros better. It’s time for me to show how great I really am,” Haney concluded.

Canelo Alvarez has revealed that his next fight on May 4 in Las Vegas will be against an American boxer.

This appears to support recent reports suggesting he will be back in action against Jermall Charlo, the twin brother of his last opponent Jermell Charlo.

In September, Canelo began a three-fight pact with Al Haymon’s PBC.

He was initially supposed to face inactive WBC middleweight (160lbs) world champion Jermall Charlo on that date.

However, Jermall was not ready for the bout and so his brother Jermell Charlo jumped in and took the opportunity instead.

Jermell was the undisputed WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO super-welterweight (154lbs) world champion at the time.

Terence Crawford

Therefore he jumped up two weight classes to challenge Canelo for his undisputed WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO super-middleweight (168lbs) world titles.

In the end, the weight disparity was too much for him and the Mexican star dominated the fight for a comfortable unanimous decision win.

It is unconfirmed who will be Canelo’s next opponent on May 4, though the two names recently reported to be frontrunners were Jermall Charlo and Jaime Munguia.

Canelo has now announced on TV Azteca in Mexico that his next bout will be against an American, not a Mexican.

This rules out Munguia and appears to support the reports claiming Jermall is next.

There could yet be a curveball, with David Benavidez and Terence Crawford also in the mix as American boxers who have called out Canelo and are linked with Haymon’s PBC.

However, Jermall now appears to be the clear frontrunner and all indications suggest it will be he who steps into the ring with Canelo on May 4 in Las Vegas.

Leonard Ellerbe directs a great path for  Canelo Alvarez. The CEO of Mayweather Promotions asserts that a potential showdown between Canelo Alvarez and David Benavidez has more allure than a clash with Terence Crawford. Even though Crawford has expressed his ambition to face Canelo Alvarez, Ellerbe believes Benavidez is a much better option.

According to Ellerbe, the prospect of Canelo stepping into the ring with Benavidez is deemed a “much bigger” matchup. Well, this comes after Alvarez teased a “major” announcement regarding his fight recently. Ellerbe had his reasons for making such a claim.

Leonard Ellerbe explains his take on Crawford-Alvarez

According to Leonard Ellerbe, the anticipated clash between Canelo Alvarez and David Benavidez will generate more excitement and interest within the boxing community. Many fans believe Benavidez could be the one to challenge and potentially dethrone Canelo from his super middleweight throne. And their story has been relevant for quite some time now, because Benavidez has been calling out Alvarez, even before his fight against Caleb Plant.
Terence Crawford

Not only that, Crawford has recently gained limelight after his remarkable victory against Errol Spence Jr. Before that, not a lot of people talked about the prospect of him going against Alvarez. For that reason, speaking to FightHype, Leonard Ellerbe said, “If you ask me which fight is bigger. The Benavidez [vs. Canelo] fight is bigger [than the Canelo vs. Terence Crawford match]. It’s a much bigger fight.

Well, the mystery will be solved after Alvarez announces the Mexican TV, Box Azteca, on February 15 at noon. He’ll be addressing the future course of his career, and fans hope it’s the fight against David Benavidez. However, the reports suggest something entirely different.

Canelo Alvarez might go for a third option

Reports indicate that Canelo Alvarez is set to face Jermall Charlo next. It will be held on a grand stage, and a highly anticipated undisputed super-middleweight title fight will be scheduled for May 4 in Las Vegas. The announcement adds to the intrigue surrounding the Cinco de Mayo weekend fight tradition associated with Canelo.

Fans have eagerly speculated about the opponent Canelo would choose for this significant matchup. Various names, including Terence Crawford, David Benavidez, and Jaime Munguia, were linked to the potential showdown. However, recent reports from The Ring suggest that Jermall Charlo is slated to be Canelo’s opponent in the highly anticipated bout scheduled for May. Jermall will be seeking redemption for his twin brother Jermell Charlo‘s prior defeat to Canelo.

A big fight could take place this year.

Terence Crawford registered the biggest win of his career last year when he stopped Errol Spence, and he’s aiming even higher after being linked to a fight with Canelo Alvarez.

Crawford and Spence were on a collision course for a number of years, but the fight was one-sided with Crawford coming out on top.

Since that fight, Crawford has not been in action, but his name is thrown out when discussing some of the biggest fights in the sport.

Terence Crawford and Canelo Alvarez

A move to 168lbs to take on Canelo would be a giant leap for Crawford, and Oscar De La Hoya, Canelo’s former promoter, has spoken about that potential contest.

“Crawford is a special fighter, but I just don’t know if he has the power to keep Canelo off,” said De La Hoya when speaking to K.O. Artist Sports.

“And that pressure Canelo keeps putting on you, after the sixth or seventh round, let me tell you, your legs will start going. Your head will start spinning. ‘What the hell am I doing here?’”

Canelo Alvarez showed off his elite head movement as reports continue to swirl about a mega-fight with Terence Crawford.

The 33-year-old is back in camp ahead of what promises to be a blockbuster 2024.

Canelo gave fans a sneak peak into his preparations and he looks sharper than ever.

The super-middleweight superstar left his followers stunned with an effortless display of his trademark head movement.

Terence Crawford

One said: “Canelo’s head movement from Cotto and onward has been elite.”

Another wrote: “He’s like a robot.”

A third put: “Best head movement in all of boxing currently.”

Canelo is plotting a huge year with two vacant dates expected to be filled imminently.

The Mexican superstar is known for fighting around his nation’s two biggest holidays: Cinco de Mayo in May and Mexican Independence Day in September.

Many expect the undisputed super-middleweight champion to defend his title against the undefeated Jermall Charlo on May 4, before a fight for the ages in September.

According to ESPN, pound-for-pound king Crawford will jump three weight classes to fight Canelo at 168lbs.

Crawford is widely regarded as one of the best boxers around, holding world championship belts at three different weight classes at lightweight, light welterweight and welterweight.

A fight with Canelo, who boasts world titles across four weight divisions, would be the perfect way for the 36-year-old to bow out.

Crawford took his record to 40-0 with a stunning victory over Errol Spence Jr in July, while 60-2-2 star Canelo beat Jermell Charlo in September.

In an age when the sport is too often ridiculed for rarely pitting its best fighters up against each other, 2023 will perhaps go down as a breakthrough year for modern-day boxing.

While the wait for an undisputed heavyweight champion goes on – albeit hopefully not for too much longer with Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk penciled in for February – boxing fans have been treated to more elite-level matchups over the past 12 months than they have for quite some time, which can only bode well for the future.

Earlier this month Devin Haney and Regis Prograis brought the curtain down on an epic year which also gave us Errol Spence vs Terence Crawford, Gervonta Davis vs Ryan Garcia, Teofimo Lopez vs Josh Taylor, Haney vs Lomachenko, Katie Taylor vs Chantelle Cameron (twice), Canelo Alvarez vs Jermell Charlo and many, many more.

The best finally seem to be fighting the best, with Fury and Usyk poised to crown the first true heavyweight king since 2000 early next year – but what other super-fights are there to be made in 2024?

Dailymail.com has picked out five bouts we

Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury

After more than six years of waiting, Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder were finally primed to meet in the coming months. That was until Joseph Parker set those plans ablaze with a sensational victory over Wilder in Saudi Arabia.

Now, it seems, Joshua-Wilder will join the long list of mouthwatering fights that fans will never see. But Joshua’s emphatic victory over Otto Wallin, when he looked back to his best, has put AJ right back in the hunt for the heavyweight titles.

Terence Crawford

He is now towards the front of the queue to face the winner of February’s undisputed showdown between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk. The Ukrainian has already beaten AJ twice – robbing him of the heavyweight title in the process.

But Fury-Joshua is another mammoth showdown that has eluded us for too long. The British rivals signed a two-fight deal in 2021, only for an arbitrator to force Fury into a third bout with Wilder. There was talk of a meeting in December 2022, too, but that never materialized, either. Maybe, just maybe, 2024 is the year they finally collide.

want to see happen next year, and how likely they are to go ahead.

Gervonta Davis vs Shakur Stevenson

Once good friends and sparring partners, any feeling of brotherhood between Davis and Stevenson is now gone as the pair head towards a potential unification bout at lightweight next year.

After his catchweight victory over Garcia in April, ‘Tank’ is still on the hunt for his next opponent as he looks to head back down to 135lbs and defend his WBA ‘regular’ strap. Stevenson, meanwhile, now has a seat at the big table as a lightweight after picking up the vacant WBC title in a less-than-impressive win over Edwin De Los Santos last month.

All roads seemingly lead to the two putting their respective belts on the line in a mouthwatering clash of styles in 2024. Davis, one of the most devastating knockout artists the sport has to offer, up against a pugilist as slick as they come in former featherweight and super-featherweight chief Shakur is a truly intriguing matchup.

And there is a backstory to go with it, too.

Following David Benavidez’s victory over Demetrius Andrade, Canelo Alvarez was asked if he would ever consider facing Terence Crawford.

Although not in Middleweight, Canelo Alvarez just might face

‘Bud’ Crawford on one condition

Terence Bud Crawford and Canelo Alvarez

Following his victory over Errol Spence Jr., in an interview at The Breakfast Club, Crawford, who wishes to hold titles in multiple divisions, claimed he was open to fighting Canelo Alvarez either in Super Welterweight or in Middleweight. “Probably 160 or something like that, 158. Yeah, 158, 160, that would be great,” said Crawford. In this connection, on being asked if he could lose eight pounds to face ‘Bud’ Alvarez answered in the negative.

That’s not an option for me. 164 lbs is not an option for me. Right now that’s not in my plans,” Alvarez said. However, he did not entirely kill the prospect of a fight with Crawford in the ring. “But, we’ll see. You never know in boxing. If it’s a good fight for the people. If it’s a fight that’s big and generates a lot of things, maybe, we could see it happen,” added Alvarez as per the translation by Fight Hub TV.

Welterweight champion Terence Crawford thinks structural changes could be coming soon to the boxing business.

Omaha, Nebraska’s Crawford, who holds all four 147-pound titles, was asked in a recent interview to give his thoughts on the recent rift between Ryan Garcia and top brass at his promotional company, Golden Boy, namely founder Oscar De La Hoya and his partner Bernard Hopkins.

Crawford—no stranger to promotional battles, having had his own conflicts with his former promoter, Top Rank—was somewhat coy in his response but he hinted nonetheless that the usual way in which business is conducted in boxing needed to change.

“Well, you know, hey there’s a lot of things that I can say right now that I’m not gonna say,” Crawford told FightHype.com. “But there’s a change that needs to be made in the sport of boxing, and I think that change is coming soon.”

terence bud crawford

“There’s always that thing for us fighters to come together but it’s always when you turn around it’s ego, you know, when you got a lot of fighters that got big ego and pride, issues, it’s hard to talk to them about things of that nature,” Crawford continued. “Especially if we’re talking about change. That’s a big thing in boxing. That eliminates a lot of things, like the promoters, managers, things like that, and people not gonna like that. But when everything is put out in front of you, how can you go against it?”

Crawford’s apparent critique of promoters and managers is not new, having told De La Hoya himself a couple of months ago on social media that boxers needed a “seat at the table.”

De La Hoya insisted that fighters needed to focus on fighting, while letting their handlers take care of business, prompting a swift rebuke from Crawford.

“This is EXACTLY the point,” Crawford wrote in a post on X. “I say we need boxers at the table and @OscarDeLaHoya says sit down and shut up. U really think we better if yall keep running things. U don’t get it. We need to do things different, like other sports. We have the power and y’all can’t keep us from using it.”

Crawford made those comments in the wake of the news that Showtime was shutting down its entire sports department at the end of the year, thus capping its near four-decade involvement in boxing.

Victor Ortiz, a seasoned warrior of the ring and a former adversary of Floyd Mayweather, recently unleashed a verbal jab that’s causing ripples far beyond the ropes. In an unexpected twist during an interview with FightHype, Ortiz stepped into a controversial ring, hinting at a startling revelation. His target? The much-discussed potential super-fight between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford.

Ortiz, known for his blunt honesty, hinted at a perspective that challenges the established narrative around Alvarez’s stature in the boxing world. With the backdrop of Crawford’s recent triumphs and Alvarez’s dominance in his weight class, Ortiz’s words could redefine how we perceive this awaited clash.

Terence Crawford is taller than Canelo?

As the boxing world eagerly anticipates the potential showdown between Terence Crawford and Canelo Alvarez, every opinion weighs in like a strategic chess move. The stakes are sky-high: Crawford, fresh off a historic victory over Errol Spence Jr., is eyeing a legendary status by challenging Alvarez, the reigning super middleweight champion.

Enter Victor Ortiz, a figure no stranger to the spotlight. In the interview with Fighthype, he candidly addressed the matchup, sparking intrigue with his bold assessment. “He’s the man right now Victor, what do you tell him?” the interviewer asked, referring to Crawford. Ortiz didn’t hesitate, affirming, “Of course he is man. At this point in time, there’s no one that can mess with him. Hey, Terence T Bud man.”

Canelo Alvarez and Terence Bud Crawford

The conversation then took a sharp turn toward Canelo. “Not even Canelo?” probed the interviewer. Ortiz’s response was as unfiltered as it was unexpected. “You know what, I said this time and time again, and Canelo and them they don’t like me because I speak the truth. I say it like it is man, you’re a dangerous individual and let’s be realistic man. I mean, Canelo’s not a natural 180, 185. He’s our weight class, he’s our height, he’s smaller than us. At the end of the day, I don’t mean to ever bash on anyone but speaking facts apparently gets me in trouble all the time.”

Ortiz’s words are more than mere commentary; they challenge the perceived physical disparity between Crawford and Alvarez. This isn’t just a conversation about fighter statistics. But what makes this fight different from Jermell vs Canelo?

Robert Garcia on Crawford’s chances against Canelo’s size and power

Renowned boxing trainer Robert Garcia recently shared his insights with Fight Hub TV on the potential superfight between Terence Crawford and Canelo Alvarez. Garcia acknowledged the significant challenge Crawford faces in moving up from 147 to 168 pounds to face Alvarez.

Despite recognizing Alvarez’s clear size and power advantage, Garcia believes Crawford’s heart and fighting spirit would ensure a more competitive bout than many anticipate. “I think Crawford would at least try a little bit more,” Garcia stated, highlighting Crawford’s determination and unwillingness to disappoint. He concluded that while Canelo might be too strong.
