Charlie Woods is following in the footsteps of his father and golf legend Tiger Woods. Currently participating at the Notah Begay III Junior Golf Championship at the Koasati Pines at Coushatta, Charlie Woods’ performance has been impressive so far.

With dad Tiger Woods on the bag for him this weekend, Charlie took a confident shot off the first tee at the short par 4. As the announcer took Charlie’s name, he stepped up to the tee and hit the ball very well.

His father provided him with words of encouragement as they walked down the course, saying:

Charlie Woods may be only 14 years old, but he’s been hitting his driver like his dad used to at the peak of his powers.

During the PNC Championship, Charlie was not only long with his driver – but he was accurate as well.

That included one moment when he bombed his tee shot and then waved it goodbye as it landed perfectly in the fairway.

Team Woods played well on the first day of the two-day tournament – with Charlie hitting fairway after fairway.

However, the best the father-son pairing of Charlie and Tiger Wood only led to a finish of eight-under-par for the day.

It’s something that Charlie lamented once the round finished up and he spoke to reporters.

‘I mean, I drove the ball really good today – I didn’t miss a fairway – and we still managed to shoot eight-under,’ Charlie remarked, adding, ‘We just suck at putting.’

Tiger agreed, following up his son’s comments by saying that he ‘summed it up right there’.

Saturday was a bit more of a family affair for the Woods clan than normal – with Tiger’s daughter Sam seen caddying for him during the tournament.

Team Woods is tied for eleventh at the PNC, which is currently being led by Matt Kuchar and his son Cameron 15-under.

Three strokes behind them is a four-way tie for second with the father-son combos of Bernhard and Jason Langer, Vijay and Qass Singh, Retief and Leo Goosen, and David and Brady Duval.

After a rain-soaked Round One, the second round tees off from Florida later on Sunday.

Tiger Woods and his son Charlie have delighted fans in their two appearances at the PNC Championship. Apart from entertaining fans with impressive displays on the course, there has been no shortage of humorous banter between them, such as the day Charlie made fun of his father’s game.

It all happened after the final round of the 2022 PNC Championship when Team Woods addressed the press. Charlie Woods was quoted as saying to reporters (via Golf Channel):

Tiger wood & Charlie wood

It’s fair to say that Charlie Woods’ taunting was not intentional and Tiger Woods took these words with a lot of humor. Woods responded with a joke as well:

During the first round of the 2022 PNC Championship, Tiger Woods and his son Charlie had 11 birdies and an eagle for a score of 13-under 59, which temporarily placed them second in the event.

Tiger Woods played in the 2022 PNC Championship after an extensive period of recovery from his injuries. In that season, Woods played only three PGA Tour tournaments, the last of which was The Open Championship in July.

The 2023 edition has arrived in a similar trajectory for Tiger Woods, as it will be his second opening after more than six months of inactivity due to injury.

Another wild year of golf is coming to an end, thankfully with a final event where players won’t be asked if they’re going to LIV Golf next year.

The PNC Championship is a family affair, with major champions and their sons/daughters/parents teaming up for a fun two-round scramble at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando, Fla.

Tiger and Charlie Woods will get the most attention, they finished second two years ago and Tiger is fond of saying that Charlie carries him. Yet Tiger is feeling better about his own game, as two weeks ago at his Hero World Challenge he said he could play monthly on Tour in 2024.

Vijay Singh and son Qass are the defending champions, other previous winners include John Daly and his son John Daly Jr., Bernhard Langer and son Jason and Justin Thomas and his father Mike Thomas.

Charlie Woods has added to his family’s list of achievements in the world of golf by helping his team to a high school state title.

A state championship is one of the few prizes his father, Tiger, has not claimed during his golf career, but 14-year-old Charlie was on the victorious team as The Benjamin School’s boys team captured the FHSAA Class A state championship on Wednesday. Charlie shot 78 and 76 in his two rounds at Mission Inn Resort in Florida. He finished 26th in the individual standings as his five-man team won their fourth state title.

Tiger Woods has an excuse for not winning a state title in high school: the California Interscholastic Federation did not have a championship while he was a student. He did, however, win the US Junior Amateur as a 15-year-old, a record at the time.

Charlie Tiger

Charlie and Tiger have played together in the PNC Championship, a tournament in which major winners compete alongside family members. They finished seventh in their debut at the tournament in 2020.

“I don’t think words can describe it,” the 15-times major champion said of competing alongside his son. “Just the fact that we were able to have this experience together, Charlie and I, it’s memories for a lifetime.”

Tiger has also advised his son to model his game on someone outside the family.

“[I told him] don’t copy my swing. Copy Rory [McIlroy]’s,” Woods said on NBC last year. “That’s one of the things my dad instilled in me, is that you should be able to balance and hold your finish until the ball rolls and stops. You can swing as hard as you want, but you need to have balance.”

Charlie’s golf handicap is unknown but is it believed to be around around scratch.

Charlie won his first-ever state golf championship and had a special guest cheering him on

The Woods family’s trophies have grown by one.

On Wednesday, Tiger Woods’ son Charlie, 14, competed in his first-ever high school state golf tournament, and the Hall of Famer was there to cheer him on.

Charlie, a student at the Benjamin School, competed with the Palm Beach Gardens, Florida school’s team, helping them to their fourth state title, according to USA Today.

The tournament took place at Mission Inn Resort and Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. and Charlie came in 26th place. His teammate, sophomore Jake Valentine, helped secure the win for the team with a total score of 148, the outlet reported. Charlie’s other teammates tied for eighth, 12th, 19th, and 34th.

Wednesday’s exciting championship victory comes just days after Tiger, 47, caddied for his son at the Notah Begay III Junior Golf Championship in Louisiana.

In a video shared on SB Nation’s Playing Through on X (formerly known as Twitter), Tiger walked quickly alongside his teenage son, whom he shares with ex-wife Elin Nordegren, as Charlie played in the tournament.

After the win, Charlie said in a post round interview that it was “great” to have his father supporting him on the golf course. “We just stay in our own little world,” he said about his dad joining him.

“We take it one shot at a time,” Charlie continued, adding that his dad “puts me in my place” from time to time. “I’ll talk about the next tee shot and he’s like, ‘No. This is the shot we’re going to focus on. Focus up. This is what we’re gonna do.’ ”

Tiger’s several appearances alongside his son — and his multiple caddying efforts — come months after he withdrew from the Masters before the fourth round. He said in a statement at the time that he had reaggravated his plantar fasciitis, a condition that arises from inflammation in the foot.

He later underwent “successful” fusion surgery to address the ankle pain, and in a statement, he said that the operation also helped with lingering arthritis issues in his leg that stemmed from his 2021 car accident.

Charlie Woods accomplished something his father never did: Win a high-school state championship.
Charlie, the 14-year-old son of Tiger Woods, shot 154 (78-76) over two days at Florida’s state championships held at Mission Inn Resort. The freshman’s score was good enough to finish T-26 in the individual standings, and more importantly, one of four rounds that counted for his team, the Benjamin School, with the team’s 602 total capturing the Class A title.
Given his father’s illustrious amateur career—which included three U.S. Amateur and three U.S. Junior Amateur victories—it may seem odd that Tiger never won a state championship. That’s because when Woods was in high school the California Interscholastic Federation didn’t hold state-wide championships. It should be noted however, that Woods did win his regional in 1991 and was his section’s medalist three times.
Tiger and Charlie Woods have played in the parent-child PNC Championship the past three years, although the tournament has not publicly stated the duo is entered into this year’s field. The PNC, an unofficial event affiliated with the PGA Tour, begins Dec. 16.
Woods, 47, has not competed since the 2023 Masters as he continues to rehab following April surgery on his ankle.

The son of golf legend Tiger Woods was crowned a Florida state champion as The Benjamin School edged out First Academy in the team competition.

Benjamin finished with a total score of 602, one better than the runner-up. Charlie Woods tied for 26th in the individual standings, posting rounds of 78 and 76.

According to the Palm Beach Post‘s Emilee Smarr, Tiger was there to see Charlie lift the trophy.

Mark Tutor, who coaches third-place finisher Episcopal, thought Tiger’s presence was felt in another way with one of his players, who was paired with Charlie.

“I know Henry was excited to be in the same group with Tiger,” Tutor said, per the Florida Times-Union‘s Garry Smits. “And it’s probably tough to turn around and see Tiger Woods walking every hole. But once it started, Henry did a good job of blocking it out.”

Thanks to his family name, Charlie is bound to face unrealistic expectations should he continue on to pursue a full-time career in golf. But the freshman has already started to turn heads on the course.

Charlie and Tiger have teamed up in the PNC Championship, finishing as high as second in 2021. Fans couldn’t help that year but to notice how Charlie was a spitting image of his dad with his swing and mannerisms.

More recently, Woods tied for 17th in the Notah Begay III Boys Junior Golf National Championship. He moved up the leaderboard thanks to a three-under 68 in the final round Tiger was on hand for that as well, carrying the bag for all 54 holes.
