Charlie Woods is a state champion.

The 14-year-old Woods, a freshman at Benjamin School in Palm Beach, Florida, tied for 26th individually to help Benjamin to the Florida High School Athletic Assocation’s Class 1A state team championship on Thursday at Mission Resort and Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida.

Woods fired rounds of 76-78-67 in rainy conditions and ranked fourth on his team behind Jake Valentine (T-8), Brooks Colton (T-12) and Pavel Tsar (T-18). Woods also chipped in during his second round.

Benjamin edged The First Academy by a shot. Pine Crest junior Alexander Weinberg won the individual title.

Woods has yet to commit the next month’s PNC Championship, which he has played in each of the past three years with his dad, Tiger.

The Notah Begay III Boys Junior Golf National Championship wrapped up on Monday at Koasati Pines Golf Club in Allen Parish, Louisiana with Misha Golod (16-18), Lucky Cruz (14-15), Maverick Midthun (12-13) and Kai Molina (10-11) taking home titles.

Golod’s victory was his second straight at this event, as the 16-year-old Ukrainian won the 14-15 division last year. Golod, who has lived in Florida since war broke out in his native country, is expected to sign with North Carolina when the Class of 2024’s early signing period begins on Wednesday.

The other story from the 54-hole championship was Charlie Woods, who closed in 3-under 68 to finish T-17 in the 14-15 division with his 15-time major-winning dad, Tiger Woods, caddying for all three rounds.

Charlie ended up at 2 over for the event, 13 shots back of Cruz – and Tiger walked and carried his son’s bag the whole way.

Tiger Woods and Charlie

Video from the junior championship showed Tiger walking off the first tee during the first round and Tiger’s stride, at least in the short clip, looked good. The footage comes after Tiger was seen confidently descending a large staircase earlier this week at El Cardonal, his Cabo golf course that hosted last week’s PGA Tour event. Prior to that he was spotted playing The Hay short course, another TGR design, at Pebble Beach last month.

Tiger hasn’t competed since withdrawing during the third round of last April’s Masters and a subsequent surgery on his right ankle that was badly injured in a February 2021 car accident. But speculation has grown in recent months that Tiger could return for next month’s Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas and/or PNC Championship, with Charlie (and the ability to use a golf cart), on Dec. 16-17.

Golf Channel’s George Savaricas reported last week after speaking with Stewart Cink, who spoke with Tiger, that Tiger had started practicing again and was in “go mode.”

Tiger has yet to publicly announce a targeted date for his competitive return.

Tiger Woods is returning to the PNC Championship, the 36-hole event in Florida that has become one of his favorites because of his partner: his son.

Tiger Woods and 14-year-old Charlie Woods are playing the PNC Championship for the fourth straight year, the one tournament he has not missed during the past injury-plagued four years.

“It is an amazing gift to be able to share my love of golf with Charlie, and we genuinely do look forward to playing in the PNC Championship all years,” Woods said Wednesday. “Competing together, against a field of so many golfing greats and their families, is so special.”

The PNC Championship is Dec. 16-17 at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club Orlando at Grande Lakes.

Woods and his son were runners-up in 2021, just 10 months after Woods badly damaged his right leg and ankle in a car crash in Los Angeles. They finished seventh in their 2020 debut and tied for eighth last year.

Woods is to play next week at his Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas for the first time since surgery to fuse his right ankle in April after the Masters. Because the PNC Championship is run by the PGA Tour Champions, Woods is allowed to ride in a cart.

The tournament is for major champions or winners of The Players Championship. It began as a father-son outing and now has gone modern, with tour players having sons and daughters, grandchildren, even parents as their partners.

New to the field this year is a formidable pair of Steve Stricker, who won three of the four majors he played on the PGA Tour Champions this year, and daughter Izzi, a state high school champion in Wisconsin.

Padraig Harrington is playing for the sixth year, this time with youngest son Ciaran instead of Paddy.

“It was actually Ciaran watching Paddy and I play together out there these last couple of years that really ignited his passion for the game, which shows what a very special event this is,” Harrington said. “He must have watched me play in hundreds of events over the years, and it has taken the unique atmosphere and experience of the PNC Championship to inspire him!”

Also back is Lee Trevino, who at 84 is the only player to have competed in the PNC Championship every year since it began in 1995.

Tiger Woods and son Charlie will play in the PNC Championship in mid-December.

“It is an amazing gift to be able to share my love of golf with Charlie and we genuinely do look forward to playing in the PNC Championship all years,” Tiger said, per The Associated Press. “Competing together, against a field of so many golfing greats and their families, is so special.”

The duo have competed in the parent-child event for the past three years. Tiger recently announced he’d compete at the Hero World Challenge at the end of November. It will mark his first appearance since withdrawing from the Masters in April.

Team Woods finished eighth at the PNC last year, second in 2021, and seventh in 2020. The tournament uses a two-player scramble format, handicapped by tees based on age.

Tiger has been spotted caddying for Charlie, now 14, at numerous events while recovering from ankle surgery throughout the year. Charlie recently won a state title in Florida with his school team.

Golf fans who have been following the growth of Charlie Woods, the son of Tiger Woods, may have been wondering where and if the golf star-in-the-making would play at the high school level.

The Benjamin School, located in Palm Beach Gardens, was the lucky winner and has reaped benefits from his prowess already.

After clinching the West Coast High School Tournament, hosted by the South Florida PGA Junior Tour, on Saturday afternoon, the Buccaneer boys golf team is well on its way to what it hopes will be a fourth state championship with the 14-year-old freshman prodigy.

Charlie was the two-day tournament’s individual champ at Cypress Woods Golf and Country Club in Naples.

Seniors Aiden Miller and Tyler Bruneau tied for second, as Luke Wise came in fourth. Travis Robertson, another Benjamin senior, shot two over before withdrawing.

Charlie’s performance marks his second low-round outing since the weekend prior at the Notah Begay III Junior Golf National Championship Last Chance Florida Regional, held at the Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, where Benjamin will head for the high school state championship tournament this fall.

Charlie Woods

With Tiger caddying and final scores of 71 and 66 − a second round highlighted by nine birdies to tie his career-best − Charlie won the junior regional qualifier in the boys 14-15 age division to advance to the national championship in Coushatta, Louisiana.

The event, set to begin on Nov. 4, will conclude on Nov. 6, which is the same day Florida High School Athletic Association golf state championships kick off before teams and individual champions are determined on Nov. 15.

Last Sunday in a post-match interview, after shaving two strokes from his 2022 tournament scorecard of 68, Charlie only had positive reviews of Mission Inn Resort’s El Campeon course.

Woods told tournament host Ryan Burr: “This course is great for me.”

High school rules and regulations may keep dad off the bag when Charlie’s inaugural run at a varsity state championship comes in November. However, the Bucs can feel confident with a well-tenured “rookie” in the lineup

The Tiger Woods Returns Tour has another stop: the PNC Championship, a 36-hole Orlando event pairing major winners and members of their families. Woods will tee it up with his 14-year-old son Charlie. The father-and-son team placed second in the 2021 version of the event, which will be held this year on Dec. 16-17 at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando.

Woods has not played competitive golf since withdrawing from the Masters shortly after making the cut earlier this year. He later underwent ankle fusion surgery and has been largely out of the public view since then, despite the many controversies roiling the sport of golf.

Charlie Woods

“It is an amazing gift to be able to share my love of golf with Charlie, and we genuinely do look forward to playing in the PNC Championship all years,’’ Woods said in a statement. Even despite his wave of injuries and surgeries over the last few years, Woods has played with Charlie for the past four years.

In their first pairing at the event, Tiger and Charlie Woods placed seventh. Last year, the duo finished eighth.

Woods has already committed to play at the Hero World Challenge, a 20-player event taking place next week. That will mark Woods’ first event since withdrawing from the Masters.

The PNC Championship began as a father-son event in 1995, but since has grown to include a range of relatives of major-winning players, including sons, daughters and parents. As a PGA Tour Champions-sanctioned event, the PNC permits players to use carts if they wish; Woods has used a cart in the past while recovering from injuries suffered during a February 2021 car wreck.

Other players at the event will include Steve Stricker and daughter Izzi, a Wisconsin state high school champion, and Padraig Harrington and son Ciaran. John Daly, Nelly Korda, Vijay Singh, Annika Sorenstam and Justin Thomas are among the others scheduled to appear.

Tiger Woods is back in action and this time, he is bringing his son Charlie Woods along. The legendary golfer announced that he will be playing in the PNC Championship along with his 15-year-old son. It is a father-son event that features former Major champions.

Moreover, it will be the first time that Tiger and Charlie Woods will compete together in a televised tournament. But what are the major takeaways from this massive announcement?

5 Key Revelations from Tiger Woods’ Momentous Announcement

First, the 47-year-old is fit enough to play back-to-back events. His participation news in the PNC Championship comes just a week after he played in the Hero World Challenge 2023. The latter was his first event since the Masters in April 2023, when Tiger had to withdraw due to a back injury. This shows that he is confident in his physical condition and is ready to take on more challenges.

Second, Mr. T’s announcement also hints at his plans for the next season. He said that he is “looking forward to competing” and that he is “excited to be back out there”. This suggests that Tiger Woods is not done with golf yet and that he is aiming to return to the PGA Tour soon. On the other hand, fans are eagerly anticipating his next schedule and hoping to see him contend for more Majors.

The third major takeaway is the hеightеnеd anticipation for a future schedule announcеmеnt. Fans and experts eagerly await to learn about the upcoming еvеnts and tournaments that Tiger Woods plans to participate in.

Tigеr’s announcеmеnt also reveals his competitive spirit and willingness to take risks. His recent announcements show his old navy mеntality and that he is not afraid to face advеrsity and to overcome obstaclеs. Hе is also showing a playful side, whеrе hе is having fun and enjoying the game.

As pеoplе have criticized Charlie Woods onlinе for not playing well, this еvеnt is his opportunity to show еvеryonе what he’s capable of. Charliе will be playing alongside some of the greatest golfers and their family members at the PNC Championship. It’s a chance for him to show his skills and potential.

Although hе might fееl the prеssurе and high еxpеctations, the 14-year-old can also rely on the support and guidance of his father. This will be Charlie’s second big tеst on a major stagе, and it’s a moment for him to shinе.

Fans, however, are wondering more about Sr. Woods. When do you think Tiger Woods will participate in Majors?

Charlie Woods was recently seen practicing for the Notah Begay III Junior Golf National Championship, where he is making his second appearance. He hit a stunning opening shot with his dad Tiger Woods beside him, carrying his bag once again.

The 47-year-old golfer is caddying for his son Charlie at Koasati Pines for this weekend’s event at Coushatta in Louisiana, during the Notah Begay III Junior Golf National Championship.

NUCLR took to X (formerly Twitter) to share the video of the shot, which can be seen below:

For many fans, the best part of the video clip was Tiger Woods walking without a limp, or at least not a noticeable one, while carrying Charlie’s bag.

Tiger and Charlie

Woods has not taken part in events lately, after withdrawing from the Masters in April because of an ankle injury. However, this video clip has given fans hopes of seeing him teeing off again soon.

Earlier in September, Tiger Woods caddied for his son for the Notah Begay III Junior Golf National Championship. With his dad by his side, Charlie Woods stepped up and made a crucial putt at the right time.

Charlie achieved his career-best final-round score of 66 to win the 14–15 age division title at Mission Inn in Orlando. The 14-year-old golfer made a tough birdie putt on the last hole to seal the win, just like his father has done countless times.

Charlie knocked in nine birdies in the second round after shooting 71 in the first. After his win, he said:

It is Tiger Woods and his fans’ era! After months of staying silent, the golfer is feeding his well-wishers nothing but great updates back-to-back. Following his comeback news a few days ago, new reports reveal that the 47-year-old will team up with his son, Charlie Woods, at the much anticipated PNC Championship.

The unofficial PGA Tour Champions event is already popular in the golf community as many former major champions and their family members tee up for it. However, with the 15-time major champion and his golf prodigy son being a part of it, the event’s popularity will escalate to no limits.

Notably, it is not the first time the Woods-duo has competed at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club, Orlando against other teams. However, despite being the fan favorites, the pair has never won the title. With Tiger recovering from his accident and Charlie frequently playing in junior golf events, that is a possibility no one can rule it out easily.

Charlie Woods

“It is an amazing gift to be able to share my love of golf with Charlie,” Woods Sr. said after announcing the news. “We genuinely do look forward to playing in the PNC Championship all years,” he added. It is a much-known fact that he is a good dad to son Charlie and daughter Sam. For this reason, he considers this event close to his heart. “Competing together,” he further added, “against a field of so many golfing greats and their families, is so special.”

All the possible threats for Charlie and Tiger Woods at the Orlando golf course

The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club will witness 20 major champions and their one family member compete as a team from December 14 to 17. From defending champions Vijay Singh and his son Qass to Steve Stricker, who has won 6 times on the Senior Tour this year, including a major, and his state champion daughter Izzie are all part of the 2023 field.

John Daly and his son John Daly II, LPGA GOAT Annika Sorenstam and her son Will McGee, Nelly Korda and her dad Petr Korda… the list of roadblocks for Tiger and Charlie goes on. Even Justin Thomas and his dad, Mike, who are like a second family to the Woods’, would also want to win a PNC Championship belt this year as well.

A lot can be said about a man’s hereabout from their shoes — where they have been and where they are going. Not quoting Sherlock Holmes here, just something Forrest Gump’s mother told him when he was a kid. So, where is Tiger Woods going with his Nike sponsorship, wearing FootJoy kicks? The mystery surrounding the deal continues and it has touched Charlie Woods as well. The 82-time PGA Tour winner was once again spotted wearing FootJoy shoes throughout the Hero World Challenge. But it was not supposed to be like that.

At last year’s Masters Nike and Woods both said they are working together to build something that fits the new requirements of the latter. However, one year has passed, and there haven’t been any updates about the proposed shoe. On the contrary, Charlie Woods has also sported the same kicks as his father. Does it spell the end of the 27-year-long partnership?

A fallout between two giants?

Charlie Woods

Tiger Woods first signed with Nike in 1996 as a 20-year-old kid. The five-year deal kick-started a partnership that’s going on for almost three decades. The last extension was a 10-year deal in 2013 for a reported $200 million.

Seemingly, the 82-time PGA Tour winner is in the last leg of his contract with Nike, which has a staggering $175 billion market cap. No Laying Up Podcast, who has earlier rightly hinted at some major shakeups in the golf world, has reasons to believe, we are nearing the end of an iconic partnership.

That’s the present, but where is Woods going? Apparently, Woods along with some other Nike athletes, such as Rory McIlroy and Brooks Koepka, are waiting for an equipment manufacturer to burst into the apparel industry. Multiple reports suggest TaylorMade is foraying into the apparel business and Woods is one of the many A-list golf pros mulling over a switch from Nike.

The 15-time Major winner first sported a FootJoy shoe at the 2022 Masters citing the comfort and mobility it offers. Although Nike was reportedly making a shoe that fits his needs, that is yet to come by. Interestingly, his team has declined to comment on the burning matter.

Woods has also ditched Nike sunglasses in favor of a new brand, and Nike, reportedly, doesn’t have TW footwear in their next year’s catalog. NLU believes the PNC Championship, where Tiger Woods will pair up with his son, is the last time the former World No.1 will sport the Swoosh. Interestingly, Charlie Woods, too has been spotted rocking FootJoy shoes earlier.

Woods Jr. follows in the footsteps of Tiger Woods

The teenager was wearing FootJoy shoes during his practice round at the La Rivera Country Club in June this year. At that time, the 14-year-old golfer sporting the same brand as his father fuelled many speculations. Although Charlie Woods has not signed any deal with Nike previously, it was read as an indication of Woods’ preference for a new brand over his sponsor.

If Woods leaves Nike, it might cause a momentum shift in the golf world. But it has precedents in history. Kobe Bryant ditched Adidas in favor of Nike to have his own shoe line. Simone Biles, too has switched from Nike to Gap’s Athleta and became a brand ambassador of the brand in 2021. Is Tiger Woods on the same path? Well, if the shoe fits, you must wear it.
