Who will Gervonta Davis (aka Abdul Wahid) fight next? It seems to be a question on everyone’s mind right now. However, there doesn’t seem to be a solid answer to it. Some recent reports suggested ‘Tank’ Davis would fight Frank Martin, but nothing is official yet. Meanwhile, Leonard Ellerbe opted to stay quiet about a potential fight between Davis and Conor Benn.

Earlier this year, Eddie Hearn revealed he is in talks with Davis for a clash against Conor Benn. He even highlighted a $10 million plus gate and PPV revenue offer made to Davis for the fight. However, claiming Hearn didn’t offer enough money, Davis refused to accept the challenge. Davis wrote in a tweet, “The spoon fed white boy keep trying to cheat me outta my f**king money b***h.” Fast forward to yesterday, in an interview with AKHi TV, the CEO of Mayweather Promotions hinted at Davis’ next move!

Leonard Ellerbe doesn’t want to disrespect Eddie Hearn

Speaking to Ellerbe, the reporter quickly brought up the potential matchup between Davis and Benn at 147 lbs. In response, Floyd Mayweather’s business partner said, “I don’t have [any] comments about no Conor Benn. I mean ‘Tank’ wants to work, he wants to fight, and he’s getting ready to fight.”

Moreover, when the reporter highlighted Davis’ decision to decline Hearn’s previous offer because of money, Ellerbe refused to give a statement, claiming, “I can’t really say what I want to say without disrespecting Hearn and them.” Addressing Davis’ next move, Ellerbe made it clear that ‘Tank” Davis is the boss when it comes to what he wants to do.

However, Ellerbe suggested, “He [is] getting ready to make a big announcement [about] what he’s going to do.” While clouds of doubt loom over the Benn vs. Davis fight, a recent report suggests Davis has dropped hints about his next fight.

Gervonta Davis vs. Frank Martin: A done deal?

Despite no official announcements from either Martin or Davis, a tweet from talkSport editor Michael Benson suggests Davis hinted that the fight would transpire on June 22. Since his win over Ryan Garcia in April last year, Davis has been in a limbo unable to make a move in his boxing career.

However, Benson wrote, “Gervonta Davis has indicated that his next fight vs Frank Martin is now being planned for June 22nd at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.” What’s more, Benson revealed that the potential fight will have Davis’ WBA lightweight title on the line.

As things stand now, Gervonta Davis seems to be moving forward with his fight against Frank Martin. However, CEO of Mayweather Promotion has drummed up some speculation about a potential fight between Conor Benn and Davis. Regardless, it’s highly unlikely that Davis would fight Benn, especially since some reports suggest Benn is in talks to fight Manny Pacquiao. Who do you think Davis should fight next? Let us know in the comment section below.

Not long after Conor Benn and Manny Pacquiao came face-to-face in Saudi Arabia, Benn’s bitter domestic rival Chris Eubank Jr. teased a fight poster advertising a contest between himself and Terence Crawford.

While there has been no confirmation whatsoever from Eubank’s side or Team Crawford that a potential fight between the middleweight from Brighton in the UK and the brilliant Omaha welterweight could actually happen, Crawford and Eubank do at least share the same trainer, Brian “BoMac” McIntyre, and it is a bout Benn would like to see.

“I think it will be a great fight, well, not a great fight, it will be a very one-sided fight, but I’d like to see the fight because I’d like to see Eubank get smashed to pieces,” said Benn.

“I think everyone looks at Eubank because he’s easy work. After his last few performances, he hasn’t looked great at all. He’s definitely on a downhill trajectory.”

Benn and Eubank had been due to fight at the end of 2022, until two positive VADA tests side-lined Benn, who has not boxed in the UK since. He has subsequently fought in Florida and Las Vegas, and there have been talks with Manny Pacquiao about a possible bout in May or June in Saudi Arabia.

Benn is not sure that the idea of Crawford moving up to tackle Eubank is not a hoax.

“I’m not a betting man, but if I was I’d bet you I can almost guarantee you that that’s all smoke; smoke and mirrors,” predicted Benn. “It’s not happening, it’s all rubbish, but obviously Eubank wants the fight with me, so he ain’t fighting Janibek [Alimkhanuly], so why’s he fighting another welterweight? With the same trainer? Do you know what I mean?”

Talking to BoxingScene, Benn sounded fatigued by the very mention of Eubank’s name. Does he think that fight has gone for good, despite promoter Eddie Hearn predicting it would do record numbers in the UK?

“Who knows?” said Benn. “I don’t really have much interest in him. I’m a 147 fighter. That’s the reality of it, I’m 147, and the guys I’ve fought in my last fights were quite big, and also in 10-ounce gloves, so I can’t wait to get back in those eight-ounce gloves and do some serious damage. There’s definitely a massive difference in the gloves. Put 10s on and put eights on and feel the difference. But with Eubank, yeah, that’s probably the only fight I’d go up to 160 for.”

The Benn-Eubank debate has been ferocious in British boxing circles for several reasons, not least because Benn would be jumping up two weight classes to fight in a division he would not otherwise be bothered with, and because Eubank Jr. for many, including his famous father, should not be boxing at middleweight any longer, rather at 168lbs.

“Let’s see if there’s any uproar about him [Eubank Jr.] fighting a welterweight [Crawford] again, and let’s see if there’s any uproar at him fighting at 160,” Benn added, of the Crawford-Eubank rumour. “It’s ridiculous. The public pick and choose what’s suitable and what’s not suitable, when it suits.”

Benn is awaiting news of a hearing after the British Boxing Board of Control and UKAD appealed a decision by the National Anti-Doping Panel to allow Benn to return to the ring in the United Kingdom.

There is no question Benn wants to get in the world title mix, but he also sees another lucrative path given the demands of vast sections of the British public, not least finishing the rivalry of the Eubank and Benn fathers from the 1990s, and the constant spectre of Sheffield’s former IBF champion Kell Brook returning to the ring.

“People want big fights,” Benn continued. “That’s what the public wants. World titles don’t mean what they used to mean, which is a crazy thing to say. I think with the interims, the silvers, the diamonds, the supers, it’s like world titles don’t mean what they used to mean, and it feels like the public just wants the mega fights, and the mega fights for me are the names you mentioned. Even though I still want to win a world title, but we’ve called for [Mario] Barrios and the only way these guys are going to fight me are if I’m mandatory.

“We’ll see what happens. I just want to fight and whoever that is, no problem.”

Brook was also in Saudi Arabia at the Anthony Joshua-Francis Ngannou fight last week, but while Benn talked business with Manny Pacquiao, there were no commercial discussions with Brook.

“I saw him briefly, I didn’t speak to him but that’s another fight I know the public may be interested in,” Benn went on. “But I’ll fight anyone. I really will fight anyone.”

Asked about the hangover of the appeal looming large, and public opinion – where Benn still is divisive but he has retained a significant UK fanbase – he said: “I just want this to be done.

“I can’t carry on caring what people think. What’s done is done. It is what it is. I can’t go, ‘Oh, he thinks this, she thinks that,’ because it’s actually got to a stage where I don’t really care, to be honest.”

It appears that talk of Chris Eubank Jr. vs. Conor Benn refuses to go away.

‘Next Gen’ and ‘The Destroyer’ were slated to clash in late 2022 in the biggest fight of the latter’s career. However, as the story goes, Benn failed a drug test. He was pulled from the fight and missed a year of his career as a result.

After his suspension was up, the two attempted to re-book the bout. However, the BBBofC refused to sanction Benn, and Eubank Jr. decided to move on. As a result, the welterweight defeated Peter Dobson in America in his return earlier this month.

Following the bout, Benn was in discussions to fight Gervonta Davis. Eddie Hearn went as far as sending a $10 million offer to ‘Tank’. However, the lightweight champion has instead decided to box Frank Martin later this year.

As a result, Benn is now back at the drawing board. However, it seems that he may not be without an opponent for long. In a recent interview with TalkSport, Chris Eubank Jr’s promoter, Kalle Sauerland, spoke about the bout.

There, the promoter refuted the idea that they were deep in talks about the bout. However, Sauerland also added

Promoter Eddie Hearn was in Edinburgh today to kick-off proceedings for the April 27 bout between rivals Josh Taylor and Jack Catterall, revealing to Pro Boxing Fans that Davis had refused the offer to fight Benn.

Davis initially reached out to Hearn about fighting Benn following the Englishman’s unanimous points win over Peter Dobson on February 3 in Las Vegas.

“There’s a lot of movement for Conor Benn,” Hearn added. “There are probably five fights at the moment for Conor Benn. They are approaching the contractual stage.”

Hearn refused to name the interested parties who might feature in Benn’s summer return, which Hearn is hoping can be held in the UK as Benn and the British Boxing Board of Control are due to discuss Benn’s ongoing anti-doping issues following two failed VADA accredited drug tests before his canceled 2022 encounter with rival Chris Eubank Jr.

Benn was cleared to resume his career by the National Anti-Doping panel in July 2023. However, the BBBofC and UKAD almost immediately appealed the decision.

As a consequence, Benn traveled to the United States to continue his career, making his ring return in September in Florida against Rodolfo Orozco, ending a 17-month absence, and he boxed Dobson in Las Vegas last month.

Hearn, however, did confirm that he would reach out to former two-weight world champion Danny Garcia, who threw his name into the hat to face Benn this past weekend.

“I want to see him [Benn] fight in the UK next, and it’s going to be a massive fight,” Hearn said.

“Danny Garcia reached out to our team to talk to me directly, and I’ll be talking to him this week. I love the fight with Danny Garcia, the USA or the UK. Like I said, four or five names, and he’s definitely in the mix.”.

Following Hearn’s comments that Davis refused to entertain him in that proposed contest, Benn took aim at the Baltimore lightweight with a one-line response.

“Don’t ever @ me ever again. @gervontaa,” Benn wrote on X.

The potential fight between Conor Benn and Gervonta Davis has been given an update, after promoter Eddie Hearn was asked whether or not the offer to ‘Tank’ has been accepted yet.

It was revealed earlier this month that the Matchroom Boxing chief had sent an offer to American superstar Gervonta Davis about a potential showdown with Conor Benn, after the two men went back and forth on social media.

With talk of the bout appearing to simmer down, Hearn was asked by Pro Boxing Fans whether or not he had received a response from Davis.

Gervonta Davis

One name that Hearn did divulge was Danny Garcia, and he says he would love to potentially make that fight on either side of the Atlantic.

An answer on the location of Conor Benn’s next fight could become clearer once the outcome of his appeal with the British Boxing Board of Control is finalised.

Former super middleweight champion Carl Froch believes Conor Benn needs to take his time and stay away from fights with top-level opponents like Gervonta Davis.

Benn had recently called for a fight with Davis. And Benn’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, is very interested in such a fight.

At the moment, Benn competes in the welterweight division – although he hasn’t made the division limit since April of 2022. Benn’s last two bouts took place around junior middleweight.

Gervonta Davis has competed in four weight divisions, where he captured full or secondary titles. Davis currently competes at lightweight, but he’s fought as high as junior welterweight – where he knocked out Mario Barrios several years ago.

According to Hearn, a fight between Benn and Davis would have to take place at the welterweight limit of 147-pounds.

Terence Crawford

“I’m interested in the Gervonta Davis fight. He’s the road killer from Baltimore and half of his friends are either dead or in prison. He’s one tough motherf—–, like a real hard man and he’s a weight division below Conor Benn. But I don’t think that’s a fight Conor Benn should be calling out. I just think Conor just needs to take his time a little bit.,” Froch said to Instant Casino.

“I know he’s desperate to fight and he wants to become a world champion, but you can’t jump in with these guys. You need a stepping stone. Conor Benn, has done what he’s done but he’s had an almost a two year break and now he’s calling out road killers. He can’t just be jumping in with these guys. He’s not ready. He needs to just build himself back up and get his license back first obviously.”

In an unlikely development, it looks like talks are underway for Conor Benn to face Gervonta Davis at some point in 2024.

It was revealed last week that Eddie Hearn would be making an offer to ‘Tank’ regarding a jump to welterweight following Benn’s most recent win, a points decision over Peter Dobson.

Benn’s name has constantly been linked to huge fights with Chris Eubank Jr and Kell Brook often the frontrunners in the United Kingdom.

Davis is the latest fighter to be added to the list, and George Groves, a former world champion at 168lbs, has had his say on the intriguing clash.

“I dunno, I wouldn’t go against Davis,” said Groves when speaking on the Froch on Fighting show.

Benn, is the best still yet to come? He’s naturally bigger but doesn’t have a comprehensive boxing background.”

Gervonta Davis needs to get back in the mix. Normally, that isn’t a huge issue. The lightweight division usually affords him with a ton of fighters to choose from. But, his options, at least for now, are limited.

Devin Haney is getting ready for his showdown against Ryan Garcia, William Zepeda isn’t a household name, Vasiliy Lomachenko is tied up with George Kambosos Jr., and Shakur Stevenson is searching for new employment since announcing his retirement recently. So, it’s time to get creative.

Conor Benn recently grabbed Davis’ attention. The welterweight Brit might be fresh off a lopsided win over Peter Dobson, but Davis seemingly saw enough to want a fight with him next.

After a curse-filled back and forth over social media, Eddie Hearn, Benn’s promoter, revealed that he gave Davis a call and is currently doing his best to make the fight happen. Going into complete details in terms of the financial portion could lead to talks going nowhere. So while Hearn wouldn’t let the cat out of the bag, he did admit that Davis has a huge paycheck waiting on him if he decides to take the deal.

“It was a significant offer,” explained Hearn to Boxing Social. “An eight-figure offer with plenty of upside. I want to try and make the fight. We’re trying to make it work.”

Gervonta Davis

Only a handful of fighters command more money than Davis. Hearn knows it. But outside of getting Davis to agree to his financial terms, Hearn has another hurdle to overcome.

Davis has spent a ton of his career fighting at 135 pounds. Benn, on the other hand, is a sturdy welterweight. Davis has made a few appearances above the lightweight limit though. Keeping that in mind, if he wants a matchup with Benn, he’ll have to acquiesce to his weight demands.

“147 pounds,” said Hearn when asked at what weight would Davis vs. Benn take place. “Gervonta’s boxed at 140 before. Gervonta’s boxed at 136, so 147 pounds.”

No sooner had Conor Benn been awarded a 12-round unanimous decision over Peter Dobson on Saturday than rumours of potential opponents for the Englishman’s next fight commenced. The most attractive of them all was pound-for-pound star Gervonta “Tank” Davis.

As is often the case, the war of words began on social media, with the American fighter critiquing Benn’s performance against Dobson. While there were no knockdowns in that bout, the British contender clearly won on points.

However, Davis was unimpressed. “No funny, the way you looked last night,” said Davis via Twitter (X). “Give me 3 weeks & a weekend in Turks and yo a** is grass. You hear me!’.”

Never one to take infringements lightly, it didn’t take long for Benn to respond with a verbal counterpunch: “Oh here he is the woman beating munchkin from Oz! Let’s do it next then?”

The 29-year-old Davis accepted the invitation and asked for some additional details: “Sure why not.. where would you like ya a** whooping at bruv?’.

Almost immediately, Benn, 27, instructed his promoter to reach out to his rival: “Eddie Hearn, drop the munchkin [Davis] a DM and get this fight made NEXT. I’m sure he’ll screenshot the conversation anyway so we will see who’s full of sh_t. See you soon.”

“I’ll be waiting Eddie Hearn,” was Davis’ short and sweet response.

Will we see “Tank” vs. “The Destroyer”? The Sporting News takes a look at the logistics:

Where would Conor Benn vs. Tank Davis take place?

Last week, The Ring’s Joe Santoliquito posted a story citing that “numerous sources” confirmed Davis’ next fight would take place in the U.K.

Now, it must be said that this was before the Baltimore star had the verbal spat with Benn. However, if true, Davis being willing to travel can’t hurt the chances of the fight taking place.

Davis made his first world title defence (IBF super featherweight) on U.K. soil when he knocked out Englishman Liam Walsh in 2017.

At what weight would Tank Davis vs. Conor Benn take place?

This is the tricky part. Davis is a lightweight, and even though he won a WBA regular title at super lightweight, he’s only fought there once.

Benn is a career welterweight who was willing to take on Chris Eubank Jr. at middleweight. He’s two-and-a-half inches taller than Davis at 5-8, although his reach is only half an inch longer at 68 inches.

But dimensions to one side, Benn is a much larger man than Davis and would have a significant physically, advantage in the ring if this fight is contested at welterweight.

It’s unlikely that Benn can get any lower.

Who promotes Gervonta Davis?

“Tank” fights under the PBC umbrella and fought on Showtime in the U.S. for many years.

However, with Showtime’s departure from boxing at the end of last year, the PBC set up a new deal with Amazon Prime.

As a result of this recent acquisition, many believe there is no chance that a fight between Davis and Benn can take place next. PBC has a preference for in-house fights and the chances of Al Haymon and Eddie Hearn coming together to make this a reality are remote.

Six-division world champion Oscar De La Hoya has shared his confusion over the supposed talks between Conor Benn and Gervonta Davis – but has also explained why he feels Benn may be able to win if the bout does materialise.

Benn looked below-par against Peter Dobson last weekend and went the distance for the second time since returning from an almost 18-month spell of inactivity, following the infamous failed doping test that led to the cancellation of his clash with Chris Eubank Jr.

Gervonta Davis

Just hours after the win, Benn’s performance was criticized by ‘Tank’ Davis, who got the ball rolling for a potential contest with the Brit after claiming he would need just three weeks to prepare for ‘The Destroyer’.

Since then, Matchroom Promoter Eddie Hearn has confirmed that an offer has been made to Davis and chances of seeing the fight come to life seem to be growing with every passing day.

Rival promoter Oscar De La Hoya has had his say on the proposed match-up, and explained why he believes Benn would come out on top, despite Davis being ‘the better fighter’, in an interview with FightHype.com.]

Any such bout would likely take place at welterweight and be staged in the United States, due to Benn’s ongoing complications with the BBBofC.
