Conor McGregor has admitted frustration in being unable to demand his fight date in the way Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury can.

UFC legend McGregor has faced frequent delays to his comeback fight against Michael Chandler but will now seemingly return in the summer. McGregor and Chandler’s fight was announced a year ago as the rivals coached against each other on season 31 of The Ultimate Fighter to promote their showdown.

Combat sports reporter Ariel Helwani quizzed McGregor on his uncertain return date by asking him on The MMA Hour: “Anthony Joshua doesn’t wait for the call from Eddie Hearn, Tyson Fury doesn’t wait for the call from Frank Warren. Conor McGregor shouldn’t wait for the call from anyone, the date should be built around you.

McGregor responded by saying: “It’s fair enough, I have two fights left on the contract and we’ve got to do something else or do we? I don’t know, surely. Nobody brings the figures I bring, or ever, all of these things will I’m sure be worked out and ironed out with my management staple Paradigm Sports in our next stage of relations.”

McGregor has out-lined his three-fight plan for this year, which starts with a bout against Chandler, a trilogy fight with Nate Diaz in September and a boxing return against Manny Pacquiao in December. The former two-weight champion insisted he is hoping to stay with the UFC despite not being offered a new deal.

“There’s been no talks about no deals,” he added. “Usually Lorenzo [Fertitta] would have had something tasty on my plate well ago, Lorenzo would have re-signed me two fights ago even. I know they know I’m up, but what way do you approach it? I’m a billionaire, Mr B. So what way do you come at someone like me?

“I just ride the wave and then I don’t know after that, but that’s my catalogue and my life. The UFC is what made me and gave me this, I love the company with all of my being. It’s the best and most iconic fighting organisation there’s ever been and I’m all over it, I f****ing love that. I’d love to carry it on, I hope.”

The ‘Battle of the Baddest’ has concluded, and Tyson Fury emerged victorious in the squared arena. However, it wasn’t Fury who won the people’s mandate; it was Francis Ngannou. Ngannou’s masterful performance garnered immense appreciation from the general populace to the extent that many considered the match a robbery. It’s somewhat amusing to assert that Ngannou was not a boxer merely months ago.

America’s Favorite Video Today

Dana White has been quite explicit with Francis Ngannou about the need to adhere to the UFC’s rules and forsake boxing if he wishes to continue in the promotion. However, some folks might find it perplexing that Conor McGregor was allowed to pursue a bout with Floyd Mayweather without similar constraints. Chael Sonnen delves into this intriguing parallel in his recent video, and it’s worth delving deeper into this matter to gain a better understanding.

Chael Sonnen explains the reason why Dana White didn’t let Francis Ngannou box

In his recent explanation, Chael Sonnen sheds light on why Dana White allowed Conor McGregor to venture into a boxing match against Floyd Mayweather while he didn’t grant the same opportunity to Francis Ngannou. Sonnen also emphasizes why Dana White’s decision was a prudent one as the CEO of the UFC.

‘The American Gangster’ asserted that the situation for Ngannou and McGregor was completely different. Sonnen said, “Use the one other example we had of Conor McGregor versus Floyd. That fight doesn’t work if Floyd isn’t 49 and 0 and going for 50, which was a big goal that he had established to the market years before.

He further added, “It doesn’t work if Conor McGregor is not a simultaneous two-division UFC champion. It’s a very different scenario. They don’t get them together if those boys go try to find each other today. It won’t work, right? The timing matters.”

Sonnen further added another example of a boxing match that nearly bankrupted the promotion. He added, ” Chuck versus Tito part three that nobody watched drove a company out of business. I don’t fault those guys for it. I’m sharing with you it worked back here when they were in their youth, when they were at the top of their game when there was a belt on the line. It was a very different scenario.” Sonnen further asserted that he agreed with White’s decision to let Ngannou leave.

Sonnen agrees with White

Chael Sonnen down in the conversation asserted that Dana White’s decision to let Francis Ngannou go was the right one and added that White didn’t sugarcoat any words but came out publicly to give his verdict. Sonnen added, “So, to execute or rather to enforce your right to a match clause, even if you’re not talking to the guy and you’ve got no plans to do it, you just want to do it to be annoying and hold the guy.”

Sonnen further added, “If you have the right, Dana didn’t do that. He came out publicly and said, ‘We are granting Francis a full release, no right to match, no exclusive 90-day period. He is free to go and reach a deal with anyone he would like to.

Conor McGregor claims he is not interested in fighting KSI.

The former dual-weight UFC champion certainly seemed like he fancied a scrap with KSI when they were both in attendance at Anthony Joshua’s latest fight.

After watching the British boxing superstar knock Robert Helenius out cold in August, McGregor grabbed the microphone and challenged KSI to a bare-knuckle boxing bout.

“I know your man KSI is in the crowd, and he couldn’t box eggs if he worked in an egg boxing factory,” he said.

“So, if he wants to get in here, I’ll give him a final yoke, bare-knuckle if you want.”

At this point, KSI had already left London’s O2 Arena, but McGregor’s callout soon got back to him, and excitement started to build about a potential crossover fight as they had already clashed earlier in the evening.

Anthony Joshua

However, ‘Notorious’ has now revealed that he has no interest in actually fighting KSI and only called him out to add a bit of spice to Joshua’s event.

“Ah he was there, it was just a bit of craic,” McGregor told Mirror Fighting when asked why he had called out the YouTube boxer, who faces Tommy Fury next week in Manchester.

He added: “I’m not interested.”

In a later interview with Seconds Out, he admitted to keeping an eye on the influencer boxing scene but views them as “side hustles” to what he’s truly trying to achieve.

McGregor’s currently fixated on returning to the UFC Octagon for the first time since breaking his leg during a trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021.

The 35-year-old is booked to face Michael Chandler and it’s believed they will clash at a UFC event in the first quarter of 2024.

If all goes well against Chandler, McGregor plans to make history by winning the welterweight title currently held by Leon Edwards ahead of his meeting with Colby Covington at UFC 296 on December 16.

After previously holding UFC gold at featherweight and lightweight, ‘Mystic Mac’ would become the first-ever three-weight champion in company history if he repeats the feat at 170lbs.

First things first, he’s got to get his highly anticipated return date pencilled in.
