Ahead of the fight against Gervonta Davis aka Abdul Wahid, ‘KingRy’ argued that he would put ‘Tank’ to sleep provided he touched the boxer from Baltimore with his favorite punch. But, ‘Tank’ knocked out ‘KingRy’ in the 7th round. Anyway, against Devin Haney on March 30th for the WBC Super-Lightweight title, Ryan Garcia will likely depend on his left hook again for the win.

In this context, Ray Jackson wondered about a fantasy match between Garcia and former two-time undisputed champion Terence Crawford. As Jackson hoped Garcia would land his left hook on ‘Bud’, Floyd Mayweather’s protege Curmel Moton intervened. Here is what happened.

For the same reason, Garcia recently wrote on X, “I respect Crawford and what he has reached but I want to kick his a** just cause.” On that note, Ray Jackson now argued that ‘KingRy’ could KO ‘Bud’ with his left hook.

“Bud did get ROCKED by Gamboa so it’s a small possibility Ryan could land that left hook and KO him,” wrote Ray Jackson, referring to Yuriorkis Gamboa vs. Terence Crawford which ‘Bud’ won via a 9th-round TKO. But, as soon as the tweet came to Curmel Moton’s notice, he said, “You tryna p*ss boxing twitter off today.”

In other words, Moton fails to believe that Ryan Garcia can survive against ‘Bud’ Crawford relying on his left hook. In this connection, one must mention that while Garcia favors his left hook, Roy Jones Jr. recently advised ‘KingRy’ to have more “weapons” against Devin Haney.

According to former Cruiserweight champion Roy Jones Jr., between Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney, the more mature and developed fighter will win. In his opinion, it is a matter of who can “hold on the longest”. And while he knows that ‘KingRy’ is familiar with Devin Haney’s skills as they fought six times as amateurs, Jones Jr. wants Garcia to have more than a left hook.

“You can’t just depend on the left hook. Everybody knows about your left hook now,” he said. “I think he should develop more tools. His right hand, jab, body shots. Develop a few more weapons,” Roy Jones Jr. added. Hopefully, Garcia will take Jones Jr.’s advice into consideration and exhibit better tools against Haney. “Uh, I think it’s going to be a great match uh I feel like Frank will probably get the first few rounds; we know Tank give away rounds a lot,” said Moton. However, he added that ‘Tank’ won’t take much time before, using his vast experience, he will catch up with ‘The Ghost’ and force his will to win the contest. The Mayweather boxer said, “I feel like he’ll probably catch him, uh, he used to experience, and catch him later on in the fight and take get the dub.”

Abdul Wahid remains, arguably, one of the ‘faces of boxing’. The mere suggestion of his return and fight talks seems to have sent fans and followers into excitement. It may be too far-fetched to consider the bout for a detailed debate. However, it doesn’t do any harm either to check with those whose business concludes with the exchange of blows in the ring.

A 9-year-old Moton stepped into Mayweather’s gym along with another boxer of the same age who had already caught ‘Money’s attention. “Really it happened, I had another boxer that was down here at the time, he was like in a position I am with Floyd but like he was younger so he was just like eight at the time or nine and he was always in the gym with all the pros and stuff so I came down here with him and he in Floyd’s training camp… and then I just I spoke to Floyd one time, I got a picture with him and then I had sparred some of the guys that be around the gym and I like put hands on them and then so.,” Moton said.

Even though Floyd wasn’t around at the time when Moton got the best of his guys in a sparring session, not long after, Moton began working out at the gym.“And then I started training here not long after that and then all the pros that’s in here like back then it was like Ishe Smith, J’Leon Love, Badou Jack and around that era that I started training here and at the time I was like 9 or 10 and they noticed my skills. Even back then, like all the pros, they was like he’s sharp,” Moton recalled.

“So, I guess word probably got back to Floyd and then eventually one day I saw Floyd and he was just showing me love. He was all “lil champ, what’s up” and all that and then yeah, I’ve been just solid with them since,” he added.

Moton has continued his training in the gym since then. He is grateful and has remained loyal to Floyd and the gym ever since

Becoming a belt holder isn’t easy. Nor is it an accomplishment that every fighter checks off their to-do list. In the case of Curmel Moton, nevertheless, not only does Mayweather believe that he’ll get it done, he was also hoping to get his young star to do it in his first professional fight.

Mayweather placed the biggest target he could find on the back of Leigh Wood, the current WBA featherweight champ. His goal was simple, get Wood to fight Moton in his pro debut. Ultimately, Mayweather’s plans never gained any real traction.

Wood (28-3, 17 KOs) flat-out wasn’t interested. A two-time world champion fighting a 17-year-old newbie? It simply didn’t make any sense. So, with Wood not going for it, Moton made his pro debut against Ezequiel Flores. He made quick work of his man, getting rid of him in the opening round.

Curmel Moton has the type of talent that makes you stop and stare. The way he fights, you’d find it hard to believe that he’s only 17 years of age. That shock factor, however, dissipates once you realize that he’s been training alongside Floyd Mayweather and his entire team since he was roughly eight years old.

Whenever he entered amateur tournaments, he was likely to win it all. With over 130 wins under his belt and nearly 20 National Titles, Moton could have opted to sit back and lay out his competition. Instead, he believed that the amateur game had nothing left to offer him. The pros, on the other hand, were a different story.

So after talking things through with Mayweather, Moton decided to move on. He officially made his pro debut just a few weeks ago on September 30th, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

His opponent, Ezequiel Flores, was 10 years older and presumably had his man strength already. None of those factors stopped Moton from running right through him.

It was a brutal beatdown, one that made Bozy Ennis do a double-take. It may have been just one fight but the famed trainer is already sold.

“I think he put on a spectacular performance,” Ennis told YSM Sports Media recently. “He looked sharp.”

Like Ennis, Mayweather loves his young fighter. So much so that he was willing to throw him in with Leigh Wood, the current WBA featherweight champ.

Those plans, of course, never amounted to anything. Mayweather’s ambitious attitude, by and large, isn’t over the top or something that could ultimately backfire.

Ennis sees something special in Moton as well. He doesn’t exactly know how far his talent will take him but if he had to guess, Ennis assumes that it could be to the top.

“I think he’s gonna be something to be reckoned with.”
