Anthony Joshua returns to Wembley Stadium this September to face Daniel Dubois.

The Olympic Gold Medalist is looking to become a three-time champion against recently-elevated Dubois, and will enter the ring a strong favourite to do so.

Speaking to Prime Casino, British Hall of Famer Ricky Hatton first addressed the stories that Dubois put Joshua down in sparring – something the former champ denies but does concede to being ‘cracked by a good shot.’

As for a prediction, ‘Hitman’ Hatton backs the more-experienced Joshua to get the job done early.

Joshua and Dubois face off on September 21 in what will be Dubois’ first defence of his IBF World Title.

Eddie Hearn has insisted that if a deal can’t be reached between Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois, the two won’t fight – despite a scheduled presser next week

Eddie Hearn has warned that if negotiations fall through between Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois, the pair simply won’t fight. Despite a press conference being scheduled for June 26 in London, Matchroom chief Hearn has insisted that a deal between the two boxers still isn’t done.

Talking to iFL TV earlier this week, the 45-year-old promoter looked flustered as he admitted that the proposed fight between AJ and Dubois isn’t quite set in stone just yet. He said: “There’s nothing done yet. Honestly, genuinely.

“We’re in final negotiations for AJ’s fight – nothing is agreed yet. I’m telling you right now, the fight with Dubois is not done and if it don’t get done, we won’t fight.”

When asked if he’s talking to other fighters, Hearn noted that he’s got his “options open”, adding: “We’re focused on fighting Daniel Dubois for the world title at Wembley. But it is not all agreed, there’s still work to be done.

“But 100% myself, his excellency [Turki Alalshikh], George Warren – we’re all working together to make it happen. That’s the absolute focus, no-one’s trying to be clever and hopefully that all gets in order for the big press conference next week.”

A preliminary date for Joshua and Dubios to meet in the squared circle at Wembley Stadium has been set for September 21, with AJ taking to social media earlier this week to explain that talks are almost complete. He wrote on X: “Nearly finished my negotiations for my next fight! Feeling motivated.”

Joshua’s last bout came in March and saw him secure a knockout victory over MMA star-turned-pro boxer Francis Ngannou at the Kingdom Arena in Saudi Arabia.

While there was speculation going into the bout as to how AJ would fare against his opponent – after ex-UFC heavyweight champ Ngannou went the distance with Tyson Fury in his boxing debut back in October 2023 – the 28-3 Watford scrapper would lay ‘The Predator’ out with a stiff right in the second round.

Dubois, meanwhile, is no stranger to sharing the ring with some of the best boxers of his generation. With a record of 21-2, Dynamite DDD has made light work of Filip Hrgović, Jarrell Miller and Kevin Lerena – only tasting defeat at the gloves of undisputed champion Oleksandr Usyk and Joe Joyce in his career to date.

Eddie Hearn has admitted that a deal for Anthony Joshua to fight Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium is still not complete, despite a press conference being scheduled for later this month

Eddie Hearn has issued a stark warning that Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois might not clash in the ring if their negotiations hit a snag.

Despite a press conference pencilled in for June 26 in London, the Matchroom boss stressed that an agreement between the heavyweight contenders is still up in the air, reports the Express.

In a candid chat with iFL TV, Hearn, 45, appeared visibly concerned as he revealed the much-anticipated bout between AJ and Dubois is far from confirmed.

He confessed: “There’s nothing done yet. Honestly, genuinely. We’re in final negotiations for AJ’s fight – nothing is agreed yet. I’m telling you right now, the fight with Dubois is not done and if it don’t get done, we won’t fight.”

Hearn, when quizzed about alternative opponents, conceded that while they are keeping their “options open”, the priority remains to secure Dubois for a world title showdown at Wembley. He elaborated: “We’re focused on fighting Daniel Dubois for the world title at Wembley. But it is not all agreed, there’s still work to be done.”

“But 100% myself, his excellency [Turki Alalshikh], George Warren – we’re all working together to make it happen. That’s the absolute focus, no-one’s trying to be clever and hopefully that all gets in order for the big press conference next week.”

The provisional date for Joshua to take on Dubois at Wembley Stadium is slated for September 21, with AJ hinting on social media that the deal is nearing completion. His post read: “Nearly finished my negotiations for my next fight! Feeling motivated.”

Joshua’s most recent fight was in March, where he achieved a knockout victory over Francis Ngannou at the Kingdom Arena in Saudi Arabia. There was much speculation about how AJ would perform against his opponent, especially after ex-UFC heavyweight champion Ngannou lasted the full distance with Tyson Fury in his boxing debut in October 2023.

However, the Watford scrapper, with a record of 28-3, managed to knock ‘The Predator’ out with a powerful right in the second round. On the other hand, Dubois is well accustomed to facing some of the best heavyweights currently fighting.

With a record of 21-2, the Londoner triumphed over Filip Hrgovic, Jarrell Miller and Kevin Lerena. He has only been defeated by undisputed champion Oleksandr Usyk and Joe Joyce in his career so far.

Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois could miss out on a world title shot next.

Joshua and Dubois have held talks over a huge showdown at Wembley Stadium on September 21, in a fight which was expected to be for the IBF world title.

Oleksandr Usyk currently holds the belt and was set to be stripped, but has filed an exception, to try and keep hold of the belt until his December 21 rematch with Tyson Fury.

Irrespective of the ruling, it looked likely that things would be settled before the fight in order to discover whether they will be fighting for world glory.

But according to IBF, who were contacted by Sky Sports, they are yet to receive any official request for the all-British event to be sanctioned for their heavyweight title.

A press conference is scheduled in London for June 26, which would now give teams limited time to receive world title sanctioning for the clash.

Joshua suggested his future will be made clear on social media, posting on Instagram: “Nearly finished my negotiations for my next fight! Feeling motivated.”

Talks were underway to settle the best of British with ‘Dynamite’ after he stopped Filip Hrgovic to become clear IBF mandatory challenger.

But there were also other options in the running, including Zhilei Zhang who defeated Deontay Wilder with a brutal KO.

Joseph Parker has also issued a call-out to AJ, and is plotting revenge after his points defeat to the former Olympian in March 2018.

He said: “There’s a lot of people that want to fight Anthony Joshua. I feel like with what I’ve done I can be in a position to fight him.

“To be honest, it’s not really about what I want and what he wants. It’s what everyone else wants and a lot of fights are happening in Saudi Arabia.

“You never know how things are going to unfold. So we’ll see. We’ll see what happens.

“But you’ve got Anthony Joshua. I let whatever happens happen and whatever fights they lock, they lock in and I’m ready for whoever.”

Joshua is in a rich vein of form having beaten Otto Wallin and Francis Ngannou with vicious KOs since teaming up with new trainer Ben Davison.

He will be hoping for his following fight in 2025 to be a shot at the winner of Usyk’s rematch with Fury, irrespective of his next opponent in September.

Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois could be facing off at Wembley Stadium this September – will the old guard get the victory or can young Dubois snatch the top spot?

The 26-year-old scored a career-best win over Filip Hrgovic this month and with that came the IBF Interim title. It puts him in prime position to challenge for the full world belt should Oleksandr Usyk be forced to vacate it.

Hot on his heels is ‘AJ’, who wants nothing more than a third stint as champion. His team are in discussions with Dubois’ for the already-booked September fight.

In an interview with Boxing King Media, Johnny Nelson backed the two-time heavyweight champion to show the young gun how it’s done.

The former cruiserweight world champion was adamant that he wasn’t overlooking the resurgent Dubois, but was confident that Joshua wouldn’t either.

Promoter Eddie Hearn tells Seconds Out that the Dubois fight will be the target if the IBF World Title is on the line. The sanctioning body has not made a decision on whether or not Usyk can keep hold of it for his Tyson Fury rematch.

Anthony Joshua will likely face the winner of Daniel Dubois vs Filip Hrgovic in September – and not Deontay Wilder.

Former two-time heavyweight world champion Joshua is set for a return at Wembley Stadium and his opponent has now become clear. Wilder was hoping to revive his chances of fighting Joshua after losing to Joseph Parker before Christmas when he fights Zhilei Zhang on June 1, but Saudi royal advisor Turki Alalshikh wants him to then face Jared Anderson instead of ‘AJ’.

“The talented Jared Anderson is with us now on the August 3 Riyadh Season card at LA, against the ‘Bronze Bomber’ Deontay Wilder – if he’s ready by then to fight after June 1’s fight against Zhilei Zhang,” Alalshikh tweeted. Wilder vs Anderson would take place on the undercard of Terence Crawford and Israil Madrimov’s world title clash.

Joshua is unbeaten in his last four fights and most recently KO’d former UFC champion Francis Ngannou in just five minutes. ‘AJ’ was promised a shot against Tyson Fury or Oleksandr Usyk after his win, but the heavyweight champions are locked into a two-fight deal. Alalshikh has promised to match Joshua with the toughest opponent possible, something that ‘AJ’ is on board with.

“What he says is, ‘In the future I want people to look back at your record and say that you took on the best.’ I said, ‘Now you’re speaking my language. We’re on the same page and he’s on the same page as the fans as well. He’s trying to deliver what the fans want,” Joshua told talkSPORT.

“I know they want that big fight with Tyson Fury and he’s working on it, but Fury has got his obligations with Oleksandr Usyk so I have got to make sure I stay focused and disciplined, keep steamrolling through opponents so I can get closer and closer to having the opportunity of me vs Tyson Fury.”

Joshua also tipped Usyk to come out on top against Fury in their undisputed title clash having lost to the Ukrainian twice. “I’ve fought Usyk so I can only speak on what I’ve experienced with him – phenomenal fighter, I would say he’s gonna do a really good job. Only speaking on what I know, I have to say Usyk will be victorious,” he added.

Daniel Dubois has been ordered by the EBU to face Ryad Merhy for the vacant European heavyweight title – a belt Anthony Joshua rejected the opportunity to fight for earlier in his career. Dubois was unable to win the European strap when he fought for it against Joe Joyce back in November 2020 but he has now been given a second bite at the cherry.

The Brit is coming off arguably the best win of his career over Jarrell Miller on the ‘Day of Reckoning’ bill in Saudi Arabia and is looking to get his name back into the world title picture again following an unsuccessful shot at Oleksandr Usyk’s WBA (Super), IBF and WBO heavyweight titles.

Merhy is also flying high after a big win over Olympic gold medallist Tony Yoka in his last outing. The Belgian boxer, who is 32-2 in the paid ranks, beat Yoka via a split decision two months ago in France as he bounced back from a loss to Kevin Lerena.

Lerena was, of course, knocked out by Dubois in 2022 when Triple D picked himself up off the canvas three times in the opening round to stop the South African puncher in the third stanza

A win over Merhy wouldn’t do much to improve his standings with the four major boxing sanctioning bodies but the allure of a European title may be enough to tempt Dubois into taking up the challenge. The European title remains one of the few belts that Joshua hasn’t got his hands on during his glistening professional career.

He was given the opportunity to fight for the strap against Derek Chisora in 2016 but rejected the order so that he could land himself a shot at Charles Martin’s IBF belt instead. “Unfortunately Joshua did not accept to dispute the EBU title.” confirmed EBU General Secretary Enza Jacoponi at the time. “So the vacant title will be disputed between Derek Chisora and Kubrat Pulev.”

Daniel Dubois is not at all interested in a rebuilding tour.

The thrill of his tenth-round knockout win over Jarrell Miller has the former WBA ‘Regular’ heavyweight titlist eager to return to the top level. There was concern about Dubois fighting anyone other than a complete walkover so quickly after a knockout defeat to WBA, IBF and WBO heavyweight titlist Oleksandr Usyk earlier this summer.

One win later, the 26-year-old Londoner feels like he’s ready for the absolute best.

“AJ [Anthony Joshua], all the big boys. AJ, [lineal/WBC heavyweight champion Tyson] Fury, Usyk, rematch. Come on,” Dubois insisted after his December 23 win in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Dubois (20-2, 19KOs) rebounded from a November 2020 knockout defeat to countryman Joe Joyce with four straight knockout wins.

Anthony Joshua

Among the run was a June 2022 knockout victory over then-unbeaten WBA secondary titlist Trevor Bryan to earn his way to a mandatory position for the main title. Dubois fell short versus Usyk (21-0, 14KOs), in a fight where his team and plenty of viewers felt he was cheated out of a fifth-round knockdown, en route to being dropped twice and counted out in the ninth round of their August 26 title fight in Wroclaw, Poland.

Brooklyn’s Miller (26-1-1, 22KOs) proved to be the perfect opponent for Dubois’ first fight after that defeat—unbeaten, name recognition and who talked enough trash to light a fire under Dubois. A completely different fighter was on hand in Riyadh, he insists, than the one who showed up in Poland.

“I had a lot of things going on in my life and in my head that I needed to sort out,” Dubois admitted of his mindset headed into the Usyk fight. [Saturday] was part of that redemption and recovery process. We still had to win and that’s what we did.

“I’ve got a lot of maturing to do. I’m still learning in there. We were scrapping but we came through.”

DEREK CHISORA claims he knows the blueprint for how to beat Oleksandr Usyk – and shared it with Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois.

The British boxer took on the Ukranian in 2020 but lost by unanimous decision with two close scores.

The judges on the night scored the fight 117-112, 115-113 and 115-113 in favour of Usyk.

Usyk then went on to beat both Dubois and AJ, claiming the WBA, WBO and IBF titles from the latter, who he also beat in a rematch.

Chisora, 39, has now revealed that he tried to help his compatriots against Usyk, only for them to struggle to put the plan into action against the brilliant technician.

Speaking on Up Front with Simon Jordan, he said: “I showed everybody the blueprint, but people chose not to be the way I was.”

Chisora has revealed what that advice was, adding: “Be fit, use your size, that was it. I went to AJ I was like ‘make sure you do this after sparring,’ he didn’t do it.

“I said the same thing to Daniel Dubois, he didn’t do it.

“The thing is with Usyk, when he starts moving his hand up and down, you’re in trouble.

“When he moves his hand up, just hit him. I knocked him down and they never give it to me.”

Chisora also revealed that he is a fan of Usyk and hailed him as “amazing”.

He added: “He’s good man, he’s amazing.

“But if you let him be amazing he’s gonna walk all over you.”

Usyk’s next opponent is Tyson Fury, with the fight expected to take place on February 17.

However, it has been reported that the bout is at risk of being pushed back.

Two-time heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua could make an appearance in the ring once more in 2023 as Tyson Fury’s agent, Frank Warren, has suggested Daniel Dubois as a potential opponent for Joshua’s next fight.

Joshua has picked up two straight wins in 2023 after suffering consecutive losses to Oleksandr Usyk as he looks to work his way back to taking on the heavyweight elite in the coming months.

The 33-year-old has been linked to a 2024 showdown with Deontay Wilder but with that fight still not confirmed, it’s possible that the British-Nigerian could explore a number of different possibilities and Warren believes Dubois would be ideal.

The British contender travelled to Poland last month but was stopped by Usyk.

Despite the defeat, Dubois emerged with his head held high and he counts himself unfortunate to have tasted defeat after a shot he landed was called low by the fight’s referee.

“I’ll tell you a good fight if that doesn’t happen,” said Warren when speaking to IFLTV on the potential clash between Joshua and Wilder.

“You know what would be a good fight in the UK and people would buy tickets to watch it, and we’ll see who is the biggest puncher and who has got the biggest heart? Him (Joshua) and Daniel Dubois.”

“That would sell out anywhere. You can’t say it’s not going to sell. It would sell. It’s a big fight.”
