Terence Crawford insists a rematch with Errol Spence is still on the table.

‘Bud’ finally did battle with Spence in his previous outing last year, dropping and dominating his rival to secure the undisputed titles at 147lbs.

A rematch was contracted between the pair prior to the first fight, though in the end talks failed to materialise with both electing to move up to 154lbs.

Now, Crawford has insisted it could still be a possibility in a unification clash at their new weight.

The possibility is there,” Crawford told Forbes. “He’s [Spence] fighting [Sebastian] Fundora for his titles [WBO and WBC].

“I’m fighting for a title [Israil Madrimov’s WBA 154lbs title], and there is the possibility.

“He wins his fight, God willing, and I win my fight, God willing, and there’s the possibility.”

Neither fighter has fought since that famous night in Las Vegas, with the event attracting huge interest both commercially and with fans.

The pair had built up a sporting rivalry for several years, but it unfolded in extremely one-sided fashion when they finally graced the squared circle.

Crawford will first fight Madrimov in his first tough challenge at 154lbs on August 3, but is expected he could move up in weight again if he becomes a four-weight world champion.

There could wait pound-for-pound star Canelo Alvarez at 168lbs, who currently holds the undisputed titles.

It would be an unprecedented mega-fight between two of the sport’s most talented athletes.

But picking up a win could be an uphill battle for Crawford who will need to close a significant deficit in size.

Crawford’s trainer Brian ‘BoMac’ McIntyre believes it could be a fitting final bow to take on Alvarez in 2025.

He told Fight Hub: “Bud has got it in him [to defeat Canelo]. I can see him doing it.

“Is it a challenge for him? Of course. Is it a challenge for the whole team?

“Of course, but that’s what we’re in the business for, being great.

“I know that Bud has the tools to beat him. If Bud beats Canelo, we may damn near retire, if you beat the pound-for-pound king. But my mind is on Madrimov.”

Trainer Robert Garcia has confirmed his interest in training former unified world welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr. (28-1, 22 KOs) following the fighter’s split with Derick James.

James last week confirmed that he is no longer working with Spence, who suffered a devastating stoppage defeat to Terence Crawford (40-0, 31 KOs) last July in an attempt to become the undisputed welterweight champion. Crawford knocked down Spence three times before bringing the night to a close in the ninth round in a career-best performance.

James recently refused to deny a rift with Spence and admitted that they had not spoken to one another in weeks.

Since then, Garcia, in a recent interview with 210 Boxing, was asked if he would be interested in training Spence. Garcia said he believed he could utilize methods similar to those he used in training Marcos Maidana as a blueprint for Spence’s future success.

“If he reached out to me, I would definitely consider speaking and talking to him,” Garcia said of Spence. “I would love to, because those are challenges for me, too. Look at Marcos Maidana. He had the best paydays of his life when he came to me. Sometimes fighters need something like that. Maybe Spence needs something like that.”

Garcia also complimented Spence on his fighting style and believes he has plenty left to offer, saying he wouldn’t need more than fine-tuning in terms of adjustments.

“He already has a great style, Garcia said. “He was, pound for pound, one of the best fighters in the world. It’s just little touches. Honestly, it would be a challenge for me, too. … I would love to talk to him about putting something together.”

However, Garcia concluded that he would first need to speak to his team about adding Spence.

“I have a team, too, but I’ll talk to my team and everything,” Garcia said. “Why not? There are still so many things that he can still do.”

Terence Crawford was not impressed with Errol Spence’s attempts to muscle in on his potential fight with Sebastian Fundora.

Both men are actively pursuing a contest against the new WBC and WBO super-welterweight champion after the ‘Towering Inferno’ beat Tim Tszyu on Saturday night to claim the belts.

Fundora’s win was a bloodbath with Tszyu sustaining a horror cut in the second round after being caught with an accidental elbow.

Tszyu valiantly fought on but was unable to do enough to get his hand raised as he fell to the first defeat of his professional career via split decision.

In the immediate aftermath, Spence entered the ring to call out Fundora and drum up interest in their potential fight.

“It’s time to get it on, he’s got the big dog now,” said Spence.

“This is my first time seeing him in person and he’s got pretty good height but we will break him down, we always do.”]

The imposing 6ft 6ins champion then replied: “I think it will be great [fighting him].

“He’s one of the greats right now, he’s one of the pound-for-pounds, so if I can fight him and get a win off of him it will be good history for me again.”

However Crawford, who is the WBO mandatory challenger for Fundora, had a thing or two to say about his former foe’s attempts to jump the queue.

“@ErrolSpenceJr sorry buddy you gotta wait in line sir,” he tweeted.

“You lost sir gotta work yo way back up,” he added in reference to his stoppage victory over Spence last July.

Crawford has activated his status as the WBO’s ‘super champion’ at welterweight to become Fundora’s mandatory challenger at super-welterweight.

The preeminent designation is reserved for fighters who are champions of ‘high recognition’.

Oleksandr Usyk previously used his WBO ‘super champion’ status to become Anthony Joshua’s mandatory in 2021.

The former welterweight champion is planning a return to the ring.

Former unified welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr appears to be planning a return to boxing.

Spence’s last fight was in July when he faced Terence Crawford for the undisputed title at 147lbs in what was one of the biggest fights of 2023.

Unfortunately for Spence, he was comprehensively beaten by Crawford who managed to bring the contest to an end in the ninth round.

Despite a rematch being rumoured for a number of months, it appears that Spence and Crawford will go their separate ways, and now the 34-year-old has revealed who he would like to face next in a post on X.

“Headed to Vegas. I want the winner!! #TszyuFundora,” Spence wrote.

The fight Spence is planning to attend will be Tim Tszyu’s WBO light middleweight title defence against Sebastian Fundora, which is set for this coming Saturday at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

If Spence does indeed face the winner of this particular contest next, it will be his first fight at 154lbs.

Terence Crawford put in the performance of 2023 – and perhaps beyond – to defeat Errol Spence Jr and become the undisputed welterweight champion. Now, the contractual rematch looms.

It was a long road to get to the fight, and something Crawford’s former promoter, Bob Arum, couldn’t make happen. Speaking to Fight Hub TV, the veteran discussed why he didn’t regret parting ways before it did.

The 92-year-old then predicted that the rematch would not reach the heights of the first fight – reportedly 700,000 pay-per-view buys.

Finally, Arum said Crawford simply had the beating of Spence, and that won’t attract fans now that it was known.

A weight and date for the rematch is yet to be announced, but with PBC’s recent link up with Amazon Prime, that’s where it will land.

Terence Crawford is stuck in a holding pattern trying to determine the next steps of his Hall of Fame-bound career.

The Nebraska native Crawford is coming off a crushing KO victory against Errol Spence Jr. in July that made him the undisputed welterweight champion.

The bout had a rematch clause that has since been activated, but it remains to be seen when the event will be staged. With Showtime Sports leaving boxing at the end of the year, Premier Boxing Champions will have to find a new broadcast or streaming partner to stage the fight.

In the midst of a sequel being coordinated, the IBF stripped Crawford of his title earlier this month and elevated undefeated upstart Jaron Ennis as its champion.

The 36-year-old Crawford (40-0, 31 KOs) wants to maximize his earning power and potential, and he doesn’t see a future pitting with Ennis properly padding his purse.

“Listen, like I said. Jaron is in one place, and I’m in another. I’m looking for mega fights right now, and right now, that’s not a mega fight,” Crawford told a group of reporters Friday. “That’s my standpoint on it. I’m looking to fight guys like Canelo Alvarez. That’s pretty much it, man, and a rematch with Spence, and that’s it. That’s over with for me.”

Crawford has remained adamant that he would climb up to 168 pounds for the chance to clash with Alvarez.

“Man, that would be lovely. That would definitely be lovely,” said Crawford.

Crawford also commented on perhaps facing unified 154-pound Jermall Charlo, the former undisputed champion who no longer has two of the four titles he once owned due to sanctioning body semantics.

Crawford was originally enticed to face Charlo for the opportunity to become a three-division undisputed champion.

“Charlo isn’t a mega-fight. His last performance [against Alvarez] wasn’t a great performance,” said Crawford.

Terence Crawford can be ferocious both in and out of the ring.

The undisputed welterweight world champion dominated and stopped Errol Spence to unify all four belts in July and crowned himself as boxing’s pound-for-pound king in the process.

The result was tough to take for Spence, but perhaps even tougher for some of his fans on social media.

Five years of build-up came to a head on July 29, when Crawford silenced all of his critics.

Among these doubters was loyal Spence fan Ray Jackson, who to this day still continues to post jokey tweets about how he refuses to give the victor any credit.

On Friday, Jackson began by quote-tweeting a video suggesting Crawford used illicit hand wraps in the Spence fight

He said: “This is why I don’t give Crawford credit for the Spence win. Tim Bradley even called this BS out.”

Crawford ruthlessly replied: “Yo momma give me all the credit for you coming outta my nutsack though.

“She just mad at me because I told her you wasn’t mines because she was out there heavy in the streets I found out. So she kept you away from me son I’m sorry it wasn’t my fault she did it, ask her.”

The thread then exploded with numerous replies from other boxing fans.

Jackson responded to one of them: “Chill dawg.”

But Crawford misinterpreted this message and thought it was meant for him.

He therefore hit back: “Or what?”

Jackson answered: “Since you mad n***a, help your fellow black man get a new forklift. It’s times like this we gotta stick together.”

Crawford replied: “Come on son, get the money from yo mom.

“All that child support money I had to pay her all them years. I know she got you.”

Jackson then posted a screenshot of Google Maps directions heading to Crawford’s hometown of Omaha, Nebraska.

He captioned this: “Alright n***a, you say one more thing about my mama I’m hitting this damn highway.”

Crawford remained ruthless and said: “Yo momma would advise you not to play with your father like that. But pull up son, it’s been a long time since I seen you.”

Jackson gave up at this point and posted a picture of his face photoshopped onto a knocked out fighter’s body.

Trainer of Terence Crawford, Brian ‘BoMac’ McIntyre, has no concerns over the weight that a rematch takes place between his man and Errol Spence Jr after a dominant display back in July.

Crawford battered Spence from pillar to post from the opening round, getting the stoppage in the ninth round to cement his position as the undisputed welterweight champion and – in the eyes of most – greatest pound-for-pound fighter on the planet.

Since then, Spence has activated his rematch clause and indicated that he would relish the chance to stage the second bout at super-welterweight, after being tight at the 147lbs limit.

However, Crawford has stated that nothing formal has been requested and if that is the case, as per the contract, the second fight goes at welterweight again

In an interview with Fight Hub TV, McIntyre, who was released from a Manchester prison last week, warned Spence’s side that the weight would make no difference to the outcome.

Recent reports suggest that the rematch will indeed go ahead with plans for the duo to run it back in February, although the weight for the scrap is yet to be agreed.

Given the manner of victory the first time, fans will be hard pressed to find an analyst or fighter on the planet that predicts a Spence win this time around.
