Francis Ngannou is going through one of the worst moments of his life fortunately, he is not alone. After announcing the death of his 15-month-old son, KobeNgannou has received countless signs of support from his fellow fighters, starting with one of his most recent rivals, Anthony Joshua.

Just on Monday, April 29, the former UFC heavyweight champion announced the death of little Kobe. In a long, emotional message on his Instagram account, the fighter lamented, “My little boy, my mate, my partner Kobe, was full of life and joy. Now, he’s lying without life.”

The message attracted support from all fronts for Ngannou. So far, the post has received almost 700,000 reactions and nearly 70,000 responses, and one of the first was that of Anthony Joshua, whom Francis faced this past March 8.

Joshua, a father of one, offered his condolences to his colleague saying “May the memories you shared bring you comfort.” Joshua was followed by many others, such as Connor McGregor, Manny Pacquiao, Cain Velasquez, and Mike Bisping.

Shows of support for Ngannou

“Absolutely gutted reading this, Francis!” said  McGregor in his response, adding, “I can only imagine the pain you are in right now. I am so sorry hearing this news. I pray God has the best and safest place in heaven for him until you meet again.”

Pacquiao also tried to comfort the fighter: “I’m sorry, brother. Can’t imagine the pain and struggle you are going through. Praying for you and your family right now!” While Velasquez responded, “Bro, I have no words, but I am here. Praying for you and your family. Sending you a hug.”

Henry Cejudo was one of the most eloquent when he said, “I’m so sorry for your loss, Francis. Losing family is the hardest thing a human can go through in life. We don’t have the answer, but one day you’ll meet again. We love you, my brother.”

Other athletes offered their support

Among the fighting community, Tony Bellew, David Adeleye, Derek Brunson, Tyrone Woodley, Roy Nelson, Dillon Danis, and Mark Hunt, among others, also expressed their solidarity with Ngannou through brief but sincere messages.

The displays of affection also extended beyond the world of boxing and MMA, with messages from NBA Milwaukee Bucks forward Thanasis Antetokounmpo and NHL Edmonton Oilers forward Evander Kane.

The causes of Kobe Ngannou’s death have not been revealed.

Anthony Joshua is back to his best and is now eyeing a huge bout after beating Francis Ngannou in March.

AJ brutally knocked out the UFC legend in the second round of their fight in Saudi Arabia, making it four wins from four since successive defeats against Oleksandr Usyk.

That win has put him in prime position to challenge for world titles once again and a blockbuster meeting with Tyson Fury is on the cards.

So what is the latest on Joshua’s next opponent? talkSPORT.com takes a look…

Anthony Joshua next fight

Joshua’s next fight is still in the works.

An incredible bout with Fury has been spoken about for a long time and fans will be hoping the all-Brit heavyweight clash happens soon.

AJ has recently hinted at a potential date for their meeting if the Gypsy King comes out on top of his undisputed showdown with Usyk.

Fury and Usyk have a rematch clause in their contract, however, a step-aside fee from Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh could see the Joshua fight happen instead.

And Alalshikh has previously revealed that AJ vs Fury is one of the fights he wants to see the most.

During an ‘Ask Me Anything Q&A’ on Reddit, he revealed the top three fights he hopes to make in the future are Fury vs Joshua, Terence Crawford vs Canelo Alvarez and David Benavidez vs Artur Beterbiev.

Away from Fury, there have also been other names thrown into the hat as Joshua’s next opponent.

Filip Hrgovic is set to take on Daniel Dubois on June 1 for the vacant IFB heavyweight title.

And he believes that the winner of that fight will take on AJ in September at Wembley Stadium.

Hrgovic said: “It should be me against Dubois for the vacant IBF belt. Then the winner should fight Joshua, but you never know in boxing.

“Joshua is the dream fight and I hope I will beat Dubois and then fight him in Wembley in September. That would be perfect.”

Deontay Wilder has also been tipped for a bout against Joshua later this year after teaming up with Eddie Hearn.

He is not expected to turn down the chance to fight AJ should the opportunity arrive.

AJ next fight: What’s been said?

Hinting at the possibility of him and Fury finally getting it on soon, Joshua told the BBC: “Boxing is changing a lot, there is a new player, Turki Alalshikh, who is taking the world by storm.

“He is doing what he wants for the fans, it’s amazing. So if the fans demand it, I know that he will deliver.

“I know the fans want me and Fury, I want that. I’m not going to give away plans, but he is a man of action.

“It’s coming, most definitely it’s coming.”

Pressed further on whether a fight with Fury would be next for him, Joshua added: “To be honest, he [Alalshikh] said be ready for September.

“Why he said that is because they have got a fight on June 1, all the heavyweights, five vs five, Eddie Hearn vs Frank Warren.

“And they have got Fury vs Usyk in May. And then they will have me in September. It’s unbelievable.”

Anthony Joshua, the former two-time unified heavyweight champion, has hinted at his upcoming bout with rumors that it would happen even sooner than expected.

Though there were first hopes for a longer break, Joshua, whose career has taken off over the last year, is ready to return to the ring.\

After a turbulent 2021 and 2022 in which he lost his belts to the unbeaten Oleksandr Usyk and then was unable to win them back in a rematch, Joshua has painstakingly returned to his previous level of performance.

Anthony Joshua set for return

Many had assumed that Joshua would wait to comment on the results of the May 18 fight between Tyson Fury and Usyk, or that he may face Fillip Hrgovic for the IBF title after that. However, the British boxer has thrown a curveball by agreeing to take on an opponent who has not yet been revealed.

Joshua hinted that he would soon be back in the ring in his Instagram Story.

The British celebrity is seen in the picture talking on the phone and captioning the image with the exchange.

There is a lot of conjecture surrounding Joshua’s opponent as he gets ready for his next fight possibly against Joseph Parker.

Filip Hrgovic will fight Daniel Dubois, while Deontay Wilder will fight Zhang Zhilei.

Former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua returned to training on Monday two after brutally knocking out Francis Ngannou in the main event of their ‘Knockout Chaos’ clash on Friday, March 8.

Joshua dropped the former UFC heavyweight champion three times in two rounds with the final right hand closing the show in dramatic fashion with Ngannou needing oxygen and a doctor before he got back up.

Now Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk are set to meet in a bout on May 18 that will unify all four belts for the first time in heavyweight history.

However, the pair are contracted to an immediate rematch, likely ruling them out for the whole year and Joshua has expressed that he will not sit and wait with his eyes already set on a summer return.

“Whether it will be in the UK, who knows? But maybe June, June/July,” he told iFL TV.

After Fury’s first fight with Usyk, the winner could face being stripped of the IBF title due to their rematch clause and that would leave number one contender Joshua in line to challenge for the belt against interim champion Filip Hrgovic.

Joshua had initially signed to face Deontay Wilder until the American was stunned in defeat to Joseph Parker in December. Parker followed that performance up with a win over Zhilei Zhang on the ‘Knockout Chaos’ undercard.

These three heavyweights are all options Joshua is considering for his next fight as he said, “Wilder, Zhang, Parker. All of them. Let’s go!”

Eddie Hearn has slammed Francis Ngannou for appearing to suggest that his demolishing defeat by Anthony Joshua was down to his early arrival at the arena.

Joshua knocked down the former UFC heavyweight champion three times in two rounds to secure a dominant victory in Saudi Arabia.

Ngannou, in a recent interview on the MMA Hour, said that he arrived at the Kingdom Arena, in Riyadh, two hours earlier than Joshua, appearing to suggest that this was a ‘trick’ to tire him out.

Joshua’s promoter Hearn has taken exception with the comments, suggesting the 37-year-old ‘should know better’.

He told Boxing Social, ‘I was baffled. It is a bit disappointing really.

“He said they got him to the arena (early), who is they? You get given times by the broadcaster.

“He said that he was made to come to the arena early to tire him out for the fight, which is really an inexperienced boxing guy talking here, he should know better.

“You get your time, which is the ideal time that the organiser or the broadcaster would like you there, you make your own mind up.

“Some fighters like to get there three hours before, some like to get there an hour before, it all depends on the fighter.

“If AJ is told for example that “we want you there at 10 ‘o’clock” and we know that the fight is happening at 1am, then we would come a little bit later, because he doesn’t want to be hanging around that long.’

Hearn also reacted to a social media post which contained Ngannou’s comments, stating: “I’m not sure he has come round yet.”

Ngannou after the fight confessed that he couldn’t remember being knocked out by Joshua and that from going back to his stool in between the first and second rounds, he ‘wasn’t there anymore’.

In a candid interview following his recent defeat in the boxing ring, former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou spoke openly about the challenges he faced during his bout against Anthony Joshua.

The fight, which took place at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, saw Ngannou suffer a second-round knockout at the hands of the British boxer, marking a significant moment in his nascent boxing career.

Despite entering the fight with confidence bolstered by a commendable debut against Tyson FuryNgannou found himself overpowered by Joshua‘s experience and skill. A pivotal moment occurred in the first round when Joshua landed a powerful straight right, sending Ngannou to the mat.

Although he managed to finish the round, the initial knockdown proved to be a harbinger of what was to come. Ngannou was ultimately unable to mount a significant challenge before being decisively taken down with another right hand in the second round, ending the match at 2:38.

Reflecting on the fight, Ngannou revealed a startling detail to Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour. He confessed that his recollection of the events between the rounds is nonexistent.

“My memory and my vision kept going,” Ngannou said. “I don’t remember when I came back from the stool to go to the second round.

“From the stool, in between rounds, I wasn’t there anymore. Some days are just not your day and you can’t explain what happened. It was quite weird.”

Despite the loss and its accompanying concerns, Ngannou remains resolute, expressing no regrets over his performance or strategy, including his decision to fight in a southpaw stance, a choice he defends as being instrumental in his prior success against Tyson Fury.

“I do not have any regrets,” Ngannou asserted. “Now that I lost the fight, we can say anything that I’ve done wrong.

“We worked on everything, and everything was OK. This was all my choice [going southpaw]. Even in southpaw, my defense is more sharp than orthodox.

“In the southpaw, to take a hit from the right back hand, this is something that in sparring never happened, and I’ve been there so many times practicing. With the same southpaw, I think we basically won the fight against Tyson [Fury].”

Ngannou’s future in the ring

Looking ahead, Ngannou‘s passion for boxing remains undimmed. While some fans and observers might worry about the implications of his memory loss on his future in the sport, the fighter is keen on returning to the boxing ring before stepping back into the MMA octagon.

As Ngannou contemplates his next moves, the combat sports community watches with a mix of admiration and concern, hopeful for his success and safety in whichever arena he chooses to compete next.

Former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua says his mum doesn’t watch his fights because she doesn’t enjoy boxing, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

An emphatic knock-out victory against Cameroonian Francis Ngannou earlier this month appears to have set Joshua on a path to facing the winner of the Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk’s clash for the undisputed heavyweight championship.

Joshua has been on a comeback trail since losing his belts to Usyk in a pair of fights in 2021 and 2022.

Despite that setback in Joshua’s career, TalkSPORT quoted his net worth to be in the region of £150m before he took to the ring against Ngannou, a bout where he is widely reported to have earned £40m.

From the mega net worth, the British-Nigerian has been able to take care of his mum but he admitted to Good Morning Britain that his mum can’t watch him on a fight night.

“Sometimes she doesn’t show up, she stays behind and she prays a lot. She says she can’t really watch her son because she doesn’t enjoy it,” the 34-year-old former world champion said.

“It’s tough for her, of course, but she enjoys the fruits of her labour. I take care of my mum a lot, I love her dearly.”

He added that he still lives with her as his work schedule would not enable him spend enough time with her if he moves out.

“I still live with my mum. I realised that when I started training – which I do away from home a lot – that if I’m away for 10 months of the year and then when I get back I’ve got to do commercial work I realise that if I was to move out I’d never actually see my mum.

“I’m away in various parts of the world for a lot of the time, but my actual base is at home with mum. So, I can still wake up and see her and spend time with her when
I can.”

Francis Ngannou gave a peculiar reason to explain his clinical second-round knockout defeat to former unified world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua (28-3, 25KOs).

The Cameroonian MMA star posted a video on his Instagram account, explaining that he felt fatigued on the day of the fight against Joshua but refused to take any credit away from Joshua for his victory over him in the Saudi Arabian capital.

“Leading up to that fight, it wasn’t my day,” Ngannou reflected. “I do not mean the result would have been different, but it wasn’t my day. At any moment of the day, I felt like I wasn’t good to go.

“Even in the locker room, trying to warm up, it wasn’t going well. I was falling asleep. I was sweating, but I was falling asleep. That’s why I took some time out for myself, some time to reflect on everything that happened to me.

“Heads up to Anthony Joshua, they did everything right. Heads up to my team, too. We did everything properly, but I didn’t execute the plan because I didn’t feel present.”

Ngannou is now expected to return to MMA, with PFL expecting him to feature under their promotional banner before the end of 2024. However, Ngannou has refused to rule out competing in boxing once he has recovered and enjoyed time away from training.

“I am not done yet. The only thing missing here was time. I will take some time for myself to chill, then come back to training to get ready for another challenge.”

Many pundits and commentators held Ngannou in high esteem before his March 8 contest with Joshua in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The former UFC heavyweight champion surpassed all expectations with his performance against Tyson Fury last October. Ngannou dropped WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (34-0-1, 24KOs) before being edged out on the judges’ scorecards, losing a narrow split decision.

However, Joshua’s performance against Ngannou was a stark contrast to Fury’s ordeal with the Cameroonian five months prior. Joshua demonstrated his superiority, dropping Ngannou three times and ultimately making light work of the former MMA fighter.

Francis Ngannou will drop out of the WBC top 10 rankings after his devastating knockout loss to Anthony Joshua.

The Cameroonian MMA star was given a No.10 rating by the major sanctioning body after an impressive debut against WBC world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury last October.

Ngannou lost the nip and tuck affair via split decision but his performance left a lasting impression on the WBC ratings committee, who slotted him in one place ahead of Martin Bakole.

However, after being dispatched in two rounds by AJ on Friday night his stock has fallen – and so will his ranking, according to WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman.

“Yeah, [he will drop] from the top 10 certainly because he was knocked out in two rounds,” Sulaiman told talkSPORT.com.

“I do not regret ranking him. He had a sensational outing against the WBC champion and he has a history behind him in mixed martial arts, which is a criterion for the WBC in rankings.

“As I have explained Muay Thai fighters are immediately ranked in the WBC, mostly from Thailand. Joshua looked phenomenal, Ngannou looked surprised.

“He got caught early and could not recover from the next knockdown. But to use an analogy, in 1971, Joe Frazier knocked down Ali and beat him for the first time.

“In the next fight, George Foreman knocks Frazier down seven times and knocks him out in two rounds.

“Does that erase Joe Frazier’s performance against Ali?”

Pressed on whether Ngannou would remain in the WBC’s top 40 ratings, Sulaiman replied: “I don’t know, that’s a matter for the ratings committee.

“If it was my decision, I would support him to still be in the top 40 rankings.

“I think we all could see him fighting anyone and still be competitive and possibly winning against rated fighters.

“So we’ll see what the ratings committee decides in the next couple of days.”

At the time of writing, Joshua is ranked No.1 with the WBC, with Frank Sanchez placed at No.2 and Joseph Parker at No.3.

The official rankings will be updated in full at some point in the coming days.

Last month, entries were submitted on February 20.

Former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou says he will undergo more medical checkups after suffering a brutal Anthony Joshua knockout on March 9, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Two-time heavyweight champion Joshua was heavily questioned for taking what was seen as a huge risk by going up against Ngannou, who surprised the entire heavyweight division when he knocked Tyson Fury down on his boxing debut in October last year.

However, Joshua put in arguably his most dominant and powerful performance in recent years to send a message to the entire division with his knockout victory over Ngannou.

The 34-year-old was in control from the first bell and floored Ngannou in the first round and early in the second. The former UFC champion never recovered and was clearly dazed when he returned to his feet the second time.

Joshua showed no mercy though and delivered an explosive right hand to send Ngannou crumbling to the canvas with the 37-year-old immediately receiving medical attention.

Ngannou still didn’t seem to have completely recovered when he returned to his feet and the Cameroonian fighter admitted he still needed to undergo some tests following the savage knockout.

“We move, but regardless I feel okay. I was quite surprised that I remember everything from that fight night and coming back to the locker room. Basically I was conscious right after and since then everything has been good, although (I) still need to run some medical work just in case.

“I feel healthy but for the longevity of the sport… we better check and find out if there’s anything that could be done to get better now… I still need more checkups.”

Joshua is now eyeing a summer fight against either of Deontay Wilder, Joseph Parker or Zhilei Zhang before a potential title fight after the undisputed heavyweight bout between Fury and Oleksandr Usyk.
