Gervonta Davis has never been afraid to call out anyone, no matter their physical size or level of legacy in the boxing world. And now he’s going after Floyd Mayweather Jr.

“Tank” claimed that Mayweather is “being held hostage” in Dubai because he owes people money. Mayweather has quickly fired back by posting a video of Davis where he’s dancing “zesty”.

Mayweather captioned the video, on his Instagram story, by writing “we always knew he had sugar in his Tank“.

Shakur Stevenson appears on Mayweather’s IG story to call out Tank

On the subsequent Instagram story, Mayweather posted a video of Shakur Stevenson imploring Davis to fight him.

Davis is scheduled to fight Frank Martin on June 15 in a non-title fight in Las Vegas. His schedule appears open after that fight to accomodate Stevenson.

Ryan Garcia has shed light on the ongoing feud between boxing legend Floyd Mayweather and his former protege Gervonta Davis.

Despite their once amicable relationship, the two are now engaged in a public spat, hurling insults across social media platforms.

Garcia, fresh from his victory over Devin Haney, disclosed the root cause of the rift, alleging that Mayweather harbors resentment towards Davis for his involvement with Mayweather‘s daughter, Yaya Mayweather.

“I already knew about it, once Gervonta f*cked Floyd Mayweather‘s daughter. That’s not even a secret, that’s not something I’m exposing,” Garcia stated candidly when pressed about the situation between Tank and Mayweather.

Quite why Garcia got involved is unclear, especially after he suggested his recent bizarre social media tirades were all part of building a persona ahead of his fight with Haney.

What did Davis say about Mayweather?

Davis, known affectionately as Tank, countered Mayweather‘s claims that he was “held hostage” in Dubai due to financial debts by insinuating that Mayweather’s concern should be elsewhere. Mayweather swiftly retaliated by sharing a video of Davis dancing with a mocking caption on his Instagram story, suggesting Davis has a flamboyant demeanor.

The feud ignited when Mayweather launched a scathing tirade directed at unnamed boxers, criticizing their lack of dedication to the sport and preoccupation with superficial aspects like attire.

“Many of you are fixated on your attire, the appearance of your boots, focusing on the wrong priorities. Several fighters are living paycheck to paycheck,” Mayweather lamented.

Gervonta Davis has reignited his feud with former friend Floyd Mayweather by claiming that the unbeaten boxing superstar is currently unable to leave Dubai due to a botched business deal. For much of his early career, Davis was the crown jewel in Floyd’s Mayweather Promotions stable, but the pair have since become bitter rivals.

Their relationship hit a new low on Friday morning when ‘Tank’ took to social media to claim that Mayweather was effectively being held hostage in the United Arab Emirates.

Gervonta Davis Insists Floyd Mayweather is Being ‘Held Hostage in Dubai’

‘Tank’ claims Floyd can’t leave the country

Posting text over the top of a video of Mayweather bragging about the sacrifices he had made to get to the top, Davis wrote the following:

Davis continued: “He has to pay them people back. If I’m lying, tell him to go live right now. He’s been stuck over there for a minute, too.” As of yet, Mayweather hasn’t responded to his rival’s taunts, suggesting that there could be some truth to the allegations.

After retiring from professional boxing after his August 2017 knockout of Conor McGregor, Mayweather has competed in a number of exhibition fights – several of which have taken place in Dubai. Indicating that Floyd has had money problems in the country, YouTube boxer Deji revealed that he had experienced problems getting paid by Mayweather’s partners after their November 2022 exhibition fight in Dubai.

Deji said that Mayweather was given a significantly bigger fee for his involvement in the fight as he explained: “They still owe me money, actually. I enjoyed sharing the ring with Floyd Mayweather and that’s enough payment in itself”. The matter was seemingly resolved after Deji went public with his issues. Now Davis claims that Floyd has yet more controversy to deal with.

Davis and Mayweather have a relationship that stretches back to 2015 when the two met through Davis’ promotor Al Haymon. Davis joined Mayweather Promotions later that same year – with Floyd helping guide him to a fantastic record of 26 fights undefeated. Davis left the company last year and – at the time – called his former boss “the best boxer ever”.

Cracks began to appear in their relationship last year when Davis accused Mayweather on social media of preventing him from working out in his gym ahead of his fight with Ryan Garcia. This latest fanning of the flames will do nothing to repair the friendship between the pair and may even lead to more issues in the future

Gervonta Davis and Floyd Mayweather appear to be at odds once again, reigniting their ongoing feud. Davisonce Mayweather‘s protege and a fighter under his Mayweather Promotions banner, had a turbulent relationship with the boxing legend, particularly after Davis became a world champion in 2017.

In late 2022, Davis parted ways with Mayweather Promotions and pursued his career under the guidance of existing adviser Al Haymon.

An ongoing feud

Throughout their five-year association, there were moments when Davis and Mayweather presented a united front, but there were also instances where their disagreements were evident, with both taking shots at each other through the media and online.

After a fan on Twitter joked with Davis, saying, “Let me find out Floyd being held hostage in Dubai”, Gervonta didn’t hesitate to reply.

“He gotta pay people that money back,” Davis wrote

“If I’m lying tell him to go live right now. He’s been stuck over there for a minute too.”

Davis had previously taken to social media and posted a video of Mayweather, which he interpreted as being directed at him.

“A lot of times what these fighters are looking at – they’re looking Floyd with the cars, they’re looking at Floyd being flashy,” Mayweather said.

“Man listen, I made so many sacrifices. Y’all are looking at the end results.

Does Devin Haney deserve a rematch? Despite being the massive favorite and a multi-division champion, ‘The Dream’ succumbed to Garcia’s left hook. More importantly, he lost to a boxer who was not ready, who was partying every day, and who had never held a proper belt. Considering all that, should Ryan Garcia give Haney a rematch?

After the fight had ended last weekend, Garcia seemed open to giving Haney a rematch! He claimed as much during the post-fight interview with Chris Mannix. However, he seems to have changed his mind since then. While appearing in the PBD Podcast with Patrick Bet-David, the Victorville puncher spoke about the Devin Haney rematch and why Gervonta Davis won’t fight him.

Ryan Garcia claims he barely tried against Devin Haney

Speaking to Garcia, David quickly brought up the possibility of a rematch with Haney, even highlighting Garcia’s own admission to the same. However, Garcia was adamant as he said, “I did but, it ain’t no rematch. This dude got clowned up. I barely tried, bro.” To justify his lack of effort for the fight, Garcia went on to detail his routine in the lead-up to the fight.

“I was drinking every day. On Monday, I was at a nightclub. Tuesdays, I was at Little Sister [Lounge]. [On] Wednesdays, I went out. Thursday, I went out. Friday, I was drinking, I was doing whatever I wanted the day of the fight. I drank a blue moon, I was chilling, bro, I’m untouched,” said Garcia.

When asked about whether the goal was to face Gervonta Davis again, Garcia agreed! He said, “Yeah, I want to fight Tank. But Tank is not going to fight me. 100%.” However, Garcia hasn’t given up hope on a rematch with Davis, as he called out the undefeated Baltimore native on social media.

“King Ry” Garcia wants to fight Gervonta Davis at 144

Last year in April, Davis and Garcia fought at a catchweight of 136 in Las Vegas. Interestingly, Davis used a rehydration clause that limited Garcia from gaining weight back before the fight. So, after seeing his performance against Haney at 140, or 143 lbs in Garcia’s case, people started speculating about the duo’s fate in the upper weight class.

As far as Garcia is concerned, he would dominate Davis at his current weight. In a X post on the same day as the podcast went live, Garcia wrote, “Everyone wanna talk about the little Stupid Tank. Let’s fight, [enough] of that funny talk. Come see me at 144 and let’s stop the talk. If you beat Frank, let’s run it @Gervontaa.”

With a spectacular win over Devin Haney, Ryan Garcia now holds all the cards. Not only has he fought the two best boxers in the world, he defeated one of them by a mile. However, will another big pay cheque be enough to entice Gervonta Davis to risk his zero against a juiced-up Garcia? Do you think Garcia can beat Davis at 140 or above?

Ryan Garcia has backed Devin Haney to beat Gervonta Davis if the pair were to meet in the ring. Garcia’s comments come in response to Davis’s now-deleted comments after Garcia defeated Haney in New York last weekend.

Garcia (25-1, 20 KOs) silenced his critics and won by majority decision at the Barclays Center, dropping the WBC champion three times over 12 rounds.

Davis had defeated Garcia with a bodyshot last April in Las Vegas.

“It’s best Ryan retire now,” Davis posted on social media platform X. “He [Garcia] is going to get hurt bad.”

Garcia responded to Davis on X, calling for a rematch at a catchweight of 144lbs.

Talking on the PBD podcast, Garica was asked for an opinion on a possible fight between Davis and Haney, and Garcia predicted his fellow Californian to defeat the WBA lightweight champion.

“Haney beats Tank [David]. Boxing is a wild sport,” Garcia told the PBD podcast. “Haney beats him out of just pure volume. [He] Just knows how to use his reach good.

“Tank would try to hurt him [Haney], but I don’t think Tank would get to Haney. Definitely, Haney would beat Tank. I know everybody will say, ‘Oh, Ryan’s crazy again’, but if it happens, I have Haney.”

Now that Ryan Garcia has broken Devin Haney’s winning streak, who is his target? Will it be Gervonta Davis? The fighter’s promoter, Oscar De La Hoya remains uninterested in a rematch between the two leading fighters. However, to get that fight rolling, he mentioned one pertinent condition that ‘Tank’ would have to abide by to fight ‘KingRy’ again.

Last April, Gervonta Davis, now Abdul Wahid, handed Ryan Garcia his first career loss with a brutal 7th-round knockout. This setback clearly shook “KingRy.” Not only did he endure heavy criticism for his performance that night, but a cloud of uncertainty also began to loom over his budding boxing career. Now, after the Haney upset, he’s propelled himself beyond these criticisms. So, is it finally time for him to get a shot at redemption against Tank?

Will we see a Ryan Garcia vs. Gervonta Davis 2?

In the wake of his victory over ‘The Dream’, Garcia was asked by many about a possible rematch with Tank. To them, he underscored that even if Tank defeated Frank Martin in their upcoming June 15 clash, there still would not be a rematch between them. Why? Because the fighter was moving up the weights. He noted, “I’m not going to 140, I’m going to 147.”

However, ‘Golden Boy’ in his conversation with the media, recently, also explained that the only way Tank could fight Garcia now would be at a catchweight of 143 or 144. Fight Hype recorded him saying“Ryan Garcia told me he can’t make 140, so, he would want to fight at 143 or 144. Yeah, anybody who wants to fight him, call me at 144, and we make the fight happen.” For his fight against Haney, the California native missed weight by about 3.2 lbs, losing a shot at Haney’s title.

Now, he is certain that he cannot make 140. So, he asserted to fight only at 144 or above. In a fresh X post, he addressed a fight against “little Stupid tank.” In a direct call for a rematch, he wrote, Come see me at 144 and let stop the talk…If you beat frank let’s run it @Gervontaa.” In a collage, he compared himself from their initial fight to where he stands now. As he did that, he called on Tank for a fight at a higher weight, where he can be comfortable this time around. “Let’s run it’s ABDUL!!!,” he called out in the post.

If not Tank then who?

25-year-old Garcia seems to be running high on his victory. He is relentlessly calling on anyone and everyone for a fight. Moments after he challenged Tank for a rematch, he also expressed his fervent wishes to fight Sebastian Fundora, Rolando Romero, and Isaac Cruz. In an X post, he wrote, “Fundora for the 154 title…Rollies…Or pitbull  ‘this one would be hard to make’.

Speaking about the multiple fighters Garcia has challenged for a possible fight, Oscar De La Hoya told the media, “That’s the beauty of Ryan. Now, we have to believe him. Now, we have to like, we can’t be scratching our heads anymore with Ryan and saying, ‘Is he going to get in the ring?’ ‘Is he going to fight?’ No. Ryan is the perfect marketer for himself. He’s great for boxing.”

In his late March fight against Tim Tszyu, Sebastian Fundora defeated Tszyu to grab his WBO super welterweight as well as the vacant WBC title. ‘Rolly’ and ‘Pitbull’ Cruz on the other hand fought on the same card as Tszyu and Fundora. Pitbull in that fight defeated Rolly to grab his WBA super lightweight belt through an 8th-round knockout. Now it remains to be seen in which direction Ryan Garcia will go.

After over a year away from the ring following an emphatic win against Ryan Garcia while also dealing with legal issues, Gervonta Davis is back in action.

“Tank” competes in the second Premier Boxing Champions-led Amazon Prime PPV event against Frank Martin on June 15. It is a non-title fight in Las Vegas.

A 2012 Golden Gloves champion, Davis is also a former super featherweight champion. The Baltimore-born fighter won the WBA (Regular) lightweight title against Yuriorkis Gamboa in 2019. Davis won two fights in 2023, his last contest being a money fight in April against Ryan Garcia. The 29-year-old beat Garcia following several brutal body shots.

Dubbed “the face of boxing” after the Garcia win, Davis immediately dealt with a fight outside the ring. He appeared in court for his alleged involvement in a hit-and-run incident in November 2020. Pleading guilty to four traffic offenses, Davis was sentenced to 90 days of house arrest. However, he violated the terms of his home detention and served the remainder of his sentence in prison.

Back to focusing on boxing, Davis looks to continue where he left off.

Martin earned gold at the 2016 Golden Gloves. After an impressive decision win against Michel Rivera in 2022, he returned and forced Artem Harutyunyan to take a knee in their fight in July 2023. “The Ghost” is ranked high above the WBA rankings, where Davis holds gold.

The co-main event will be David Benavidez vs. Oleksandr Gvozdyk in a light heavyweight fight. Benavidez is a former WBC super middleweight champion who was the top contender for Canelo Alvarez. Realizing he wasn’t getting a Mexico vs. Mexico fight against Canelo at any point soon as Canelo was focusing on other fights, Benavidez moved his focus to light heavyweight.

The undefeated Benavidez faces a former WBC light heavyweight champion in Gvozdyk, currently on a three-fight win streak.

Gervonta Davis (29-0, 27 KOs) has taken to social media and urged Ryan Garcia to retire from the sport following his emphatic victory over Devin Haney.

Garcia (25-1, 20 KOs) dropped former WBC world super-lightweight titleholder Haney (31-1, 15 KOs) three times at the Barclays Center, Brooklyn, before claiming a majority decision points verdict to defeat his Californian rival.

Garica’s concerning behavior stained the lead-up to the highly anticipated encounter and Garica weighed in more than 3lbs over the 140-limit, for which he had to pay financial penalties.

When Garcia boxed Davis last April, the contest generated more than $100 million in box office and pay-per-view revenues, making it the fifth-highest-grossing contest in Nevada boxing history.

Davis ultimately halted Garcia inside seven rounds at the T-Mobile Arena but, taking to social media in the aftermath of Garcia’s victory over Haney, the current WBA lightweight champion posted a since-deleted tweet stating that if a rematch were to happen, the result would be no different.

“It’s best Ryan retire now,” Davis posted on social media platform X. “He [Garcia] is going to get hurt bad.”

Garcia battled back today, writing on X: “Everyone wanna talk about the little stupid Tank. Let’s fight nuff of that funny talk. Come see me at 144 and let’s stop the talk. If you beat Frank [Martin on June 15] let’s run it.”

Ryan Garcia wants to run it back with Gervonta Davis.

‘King Ry’ suffered the first and to date only defeat of his professional career to Davis in April 2023 when he was stopped with a brutal body shot in the seventh round.

In order to get the fight over the line, Garcia agreed to compete at a catchweight of 136lbs while he also signed off on a 10lbs rehydration clause that the 25-year-old claims left him extremely drained.

After defeating Devin Haney on Saturday night, Garcia took to social media to call for a second fight with Davis.

However, the California boxer insisted it can only happen on the condition that they agree to a 144lbs catchweight.

“Everyone wanna talk about the little Stupid tank,” Garcia tweeted on Tuesday.

“Let’s fight, [enough] of that funny talk. Come see me at 144[lbs] and [let’s] stop the talk.”

Garcia dropped Haney three times en route to a majority decision victory at the Barclays Centre in New York.

Yet he was unable to pick up Haney’s WBC super-lightweight title after coming in 3.2lbs over the 140lbs limit.

Garcia affirms he will never fight at super-lightweight again and has teased a move to 147lbs after insisting his body can’t get below 143lbs anymore.

Davis faces Frank Martin at lightweight on June 15 and has never fought above super-lightweight during his career.

It is unlikely he will accept Garcia’s demands but that won’t matter too much for ‘The Flash’ who still has plenty of big fights on the horizon.

Naming his hit list during a recent interview with talkSPORT.com, Garcia said: “Teofimo Lopez, Shakur Stevenson and the Gervonta Davis rematch.

“But I also wanna do Sean O’Malley as a crossover MMA thing.

“That would break UFC PPV records.

“It is gonna be in the cage, there’s no other way I would do it other than me in the cage going against Sean O’Malley and ripping off his head.

“I don’t want a flat fee, I just want a percentage of the PPVs, that’s it.”
