The thing is, Porter thinks for ‘Monster’ Inoue to maximize his stardom, he needs to fight an American in America.

What’s more, the CEO of Mayweather Promotions, Leonard Ellerbe, feels the same way! Reacting to Porter’s statement, Ellerbe wrote on X, “The young man is [definitely] a rock star in Japan, and he’s generating enormous revenue, but outside of the diehards, he’s relatively unknown in the U.S.” This seems to have started a debate among fans about who’s more popular, eventually prompting Ellerbe to settle the debate with a witty response.

While there is some truth to the user’s statement, the CEO of Mayweather Promotions didn’t feel the same way!

In a tweet responding to the user, Ellerbe wrote, “That’s your opinion but it’s ok. You would know you [have] done countless shows, and I know you have all the metrics to back what you said.” It’s worth mentioning that Davis’ fight against Ryan Garcia still remains one of the biggest spectacles of recent years, raking in $100 million in revenue.

And after knocking out Ryan Garcia, who is big on social media, Davis popularity has skyrocketed. He is also often referred to as the new face of boxing. In a now-deleted tweet, Davis wrote, “A weak a** heavyweight… I turn it off.” When another user queried whether it was Anderson’s fight, Davis responded by sharing Anderson’s new moniker, “Big S**tty.” A screenshot of the conversation was shared on X by talkSport editor Michael Benson.

It’s worth mentioning that two judges scored the fight 100-90 in favor of Anderson. Meanwhile, the third judge gave Merhy one round with a 99-91. Interestingly, the 144 punches from Merhy were the third fewest in the 39-year history of CompuBox. On the other hand, Anderson managed to quadruple that amount with his 662 punches.

However, Anderson just landed 49 power shots compared to Merhy’s 18. Regardless, after discovering Davis’ reaction to his fight, Anderson hopped on the social media platform to express his thoughts.

The American heavyweight prospect was unable to perform to his best against a negative opponent.

Merhy seemingly came to survive from the first bell.

The former cruiserweight was outsized in the fight and appeared daunted by his opponent.

‘Big Baby’ Anderson ultimately dominated Merhy for the full ten rounds.

He was awarded a near shut-out victory as a result, with two judges scoring the fight 100-90 in his favour and one scoring it 99-91.

Fans were seriously disappointed by the contest.

One social media user wrote: “Ryad Mehry should be penalised by having to fly cargo back to Brussels. Mehry was horribly embarrassing against Jared Anderson.”

And another said at the end of the fight: “Jared Anderson completes his ten-round public workout on the heavy bag.”

Remarkably, According to CompuBox, Merhy threw just 144 punches in the fight, landing only 34.

This is the third-fewest amount of punches thrown in a ten-round fight in CompuBox history.

By comparison, ‘Big Baby’ Anderson threw 662 punches.

One observer unimpressed was Gervonta Davis.

In a deleted tweet, he wrote: “Boy dumb ass.”

When a fan replied: “What are you watching champ?”

Davis answered: “A weak ass heavyweight. I turned it off.”

As of the time of writing, the fight has not been officially confirmed, but both fighters have hinted at ongoing talks. If the fight gets made, it could possibly transpire at the rumored Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.

Davis (29-0) hasn’t fought since his seventh-round knockout victory over Ryan Garcia in April last year. Due to his legal troubles, which saw him in house arrest, the WBA lightweight champion had to stay out of the ring for over a year. Meanwhile, even Martin (18-0) didn’t see much action in 2023! Martin revealed that it was actually him who hurt Gervonta Davis during the sparring session. So, when Davis got wind of Martin’s bold claims during the interview, he hopped on X to set the record straight. In a now-deleted tweet, Davis wrote, “Keep talking… Ima upload the video.” Moreover, even though Martin suggested the sparring footage does exist, it hasn’t been made public yet.

In this match, the boxer from Baltimore will put his WBA Lightweight title on the line for the fifth time since he won it against Yuriorkis Gamboa in 2019. Ryan Garcia has warned Gervonta Davis that his popularity will decline if he doesn’t face top-level competition.

Davis’ biggest win to date was when he stopped Garcia last year with a seventh-round TKO. The fight sold over 1.2 million PPVs, while the live gate exceeded $20 million. It became boxing’s highest-grossing event in 2023. That was the most Davis and Garcia had ever generated for a fight. However, there is a perception Davis does not face the best in his weight class.

He has been linked with fights against Shakur Stevenson, Vasiliy Lomachenko, Teofimo Lopez and Devin Haney, to name a few. Fights with Shakur and Loma could be made at 135, both for titles. Davis could also move up to 140 for belts. However, Davis will face Frank Martin next on June 22. Martin is Garcia’s stablemate as the undefeated southpaw seeks his first world title. Davis is the favorite, but once again, it was not the big name boxing fans hoped for. Garcia has called on Davis to fight better opposition or lose his fanbase.

However, Garcia is also struggling to sell tickets for his fight with Devin Haney. The two boxers square off on April 20 as Garcia chases Haney’s WBC Junior Welterweight Title. The tickets have struggled to sell, with Garcia stating they were too high. Ringside seats were allegedly between $5,000 and $ 10,000, while DAZN reduced the PPV price from $80 to $ 69.99.

While the ticket prices have been reduced, Garcia has not helped himself during the build-up. He revealed he smoked weed and drank alcohol, showing a lack of focus. His social media activity has also divided fans, with Garcia stating he has lost sponsors. The venue has also not helped, as Garcia wanted the fight in Vegas, not New York. The lack of venues in Vegas meant the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, was chosen. Garcia may be singling out Tank, but he faces the same criticism.

Gervonta Davis is already in great shape over two months out from his next fight against Frank Martin.

‘Tank’ recently confirmed on social media that he would be returning to the ring against Martin on June 22 in Houston, Texas.

The fight has not been officially announced at the time of writing, however, Davis is already hard at work preparing for his upcoming clash.

Following a gruelling session, the Baltimore banger flaunted his ripped physique in a video uploaded to X on Sunday evening as fans expressed their concerns for Martin.

Reacting to the video, one supporter wrote: “That boy in shape I feel sorry for Frank.”

Another tweeted: “Boy Frank Martin is in a world of trouble, 2 months out and Tank looks like this.”

A third added: “Frank Martin might be going to sleep I can’t lie.”

Davis has been out of action since his seventh-round knockout win over Ryan Garcia in April last year.

Shortly after the triumph, he spent 44 days in prison for violating the terms of a sentence which initially saw him avoid jail time.

Last May, Davis was sentenced to 90 days of home detention, three years probation and 200 hours of community service over his November 2020 hit-and-run car crash which injured four people.

He was later found guilty of violating the terms of his home detention and as a result, was ordered to serve the rest of his 90-day sentence in jail.

However, he is now free to move on with his career after having his ankle monitor removed and will box Martin in his first fight back after 14 months.

It was initially reported that the bout was being targeted for June 15 but Davis has since affirmed that it has been pushed back seven days.

The Toyota Centre in Houston, Texas – which is the rumoured venue for the contest – was already booked by American rapper Megan Thee Stallion on June 15.

Davis confirmed that this was the reason for the slight delay in a tweet, posted last week, reading: “I let Meg do her thing… week after.”

The 29-year-old, who was officially elevated to become the WBA lightweight world champion in January following Devin Haney’s decision to vacate, will defend his strap against Martin on the night.

Martin is ranked No.2 with the major sanctioning body and is undefeated at 18-0.

The best win of his fledgling career came against surging contender Michel Rivera in December 2022.

That fight put Martin’s name on the map at 135lb and proved he is ready to step up to world title level.

A boxing commentator, who goes by the social media handle 2ToneDaSupastar, found himself in hot waters with Gervonta Davis not so long ago. But to make matters worse, Shakur Stevenson has now banned the commentator, following suit. However, the question is, how did it all begin?

Everything started when Errol Spence Jr. was ringside during the Tim Tszyu vs. Sebastian Fundora fight. After Fundora’s surprise victory, Spence wanted to fight him for the WBC and WBO belts. However, 2ToneDaSupastar suggested Spence should fight Davis as a tune-up fight. This, of course, enraged Davis, who responded by stating, “Ima beat yo fat a** when I catch you, omm.” Regardless, it still didn’t answer the question: Why did Shakur Stevenson ban him from his fights as well?

Boxing commentator insists on Shakur Stevenson running it back

Boxing commentator 2ToneDaSupastar threw some shade today, suggesting that certain fighters, perhaps including Shakur Stevenson, like to boast about their skills but crumble under pressure. Stevenson, clearly not a fan of this critique, fired back accusing 2Tone of bias.

Undeterred, 2Tone referenced Edwin De Los Santos, Stevenson’s last opponent against whom he suffered to earn a decisive win, hinting that perhaps Stevenson should have a rematch and focus on proving himself in the ring rather than arguing with the commentator.

When Stevenson questioned why the commentator thought other fighters shouldn’t have to have a rematch while Stevenson should, 2ToneDaSupastar wrote, “You think everyone [is] trolling when they criticize you for not running back with Edwin? That [Edwin fight is about your] legacy.” Following some responses from other fans, the commentator reiterated, “We [want to] see it, bro.” This angered Shakur Stevenson who then responded by stating to the commentator, “Don’t come to no fights, fat man.”

While Stevenson is clearly not willing to fight De Los Santos for a rematch, he has promised a spectacular showing in his next fight.

Stevenson to face German professional boxer

According to Mike Coopeninger from ESPN, Stevenson is slated to fight Artem Harutyunyan on July 6 in Stevenson’s hometown of Newark, New Jersey. The fight will have ‘Sugar’ Stevenson’s WBC lightweight title on the line, but nothing has been officially announced. Despite that, Stevenson has dropped hints about his performance in the next fight.

In a tweet, Stevenson wrote, “We could fast-forward time to July 6th. Lol, I’m in Grind mode. [I have] been feeling like myself in the gym every day, and I’m not even in fight shape. He better bring everything he [has because] I’m coming to get him.” This fight will mark Stevenson’s last fight as part of Top Rank Promotions as he transitions into a free agent.

With that said, it looks like 2ToneDaSupastar will have to miss out on several blockbuster fights from Shakur Stevenson and Gervonta Davis. However, the bigger question is, will Shakur Stevenson be able to redeem himself in his upcoming fight?
