The boxer Gervonta Davis has not had an official fight for months, in his last fight he defeated Ryan Garcia in April. Davis delivered a good blow to the liver of ‘KingRy’ that left him with a knee on the canvas without being able to get up.

Davis, the rising star in the boxing world, has been attracting the attention of his rivals who are eager to challenge him.

Gervonta posted a video on his Instagram stories where the boxer is seen performing sparring with good rhythm and intensity while giving some screams of strength. A few seconds later he knocks out his opponent.

A few months ago Gervonta was asked who could beat him, if opponents like Devin Haney and Shakur Stevenson , Davis confidently stated, “The only person who could beat me is Gervonta Davis. Those others can’t touch me at all.”

Ryan Garcia is looking for a rematch, arguing that when they faced each other, he was not at his best. In an interview with Fight Hub TV, ‘KingRy’ said he is better than Gervonta and will do whatever it takes to get a rematch.

In September, Gervonta said he would not fight for the remainder of 2023 and would concentrate on personal matters.

It should be recalled that the boxer is involved in a legal matter related to a hit-and-run incident that occurred in May 2021. And although he was not initially expected to serve time in prison, he ended up spending most of his 90-day sentence in jail.

It has been confirmed to The Ring that Gervonta Davis will defend his WBA lightweight title against Frank Martin in late spring/early summer on Amazon Prime, headlining a Premier Boxing Champions event on Pay-Per-View.

Davis hasn’t fought since his win over Ryan Garcia in a mega-event last April. The Baltimore native served 44 days in a detention center in June having violated terms to his 90-day house arrest at the home of his long-time trainer Calvin Ford. Davis had pled guilty to taking part in a car accident involving four people in November 2020.

Since his release, he has been linked to several possible fights, including a recent offer from Eddie Hearn to move up to welterweight and face Conor Benn. That always looked a stretch for Tank, who has long fought on the PBC umbrella.

Meanwhile, Martin was riding the crest of a wave and primed to face Shakur Stevenson last fall for the vacant WBC 135-pound belt. However, at the last minute he backed away from the deal and hasn’t fought since. While it was startling at the time, it always looked as though PBC had something up their sleeve for Martin, and a fight with Davis apparently made the most sense.

While he gets ready to face seasoned opponent Kyrone “Shut It Down” Davis, the undefeated rising middleweight Elijah Garcia did a media workout on Thursday in his home city of Phoenix. The fight will be streamed live on Prime Video on Saturday, March 30 starting at 6 p.m. ET/3 p.m. PT from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

One of the biggest names in boxing in 2023, Garcia, 20, began his remarkable year in March of last year by stopping Amilcar Vidal, who had never lost before. After that, he made two appearances on the undercards of the biggest pay-per-view events of the year: in April, he defeated Kevin Salgado in Gervonta Davis vs. Ryan Garcia, and in September, he defeated Armando Resendiz in Canelo Alvarez vs. Jermell Charlo. against March 30, he’ll take against the gifted and resilient Davis in an effort to step up his game and challenge for the world crown.

“I feel strong and I’m preparing really well for this fight, because I know how tough an opponent Kyrone Davis is. I’m not taking anyone lightly. He’s very experienced and he believes in his skills. It’s a blessing to be fighting on Amazon Prime. It’s a new generation and I get to be a part of it. It’s very exciting and it’s an opportunity I’m coming to take advantage of,” said Garcia(16-0, 13KOs) on Thursday from Phoenix’s F1 Boxing Gym.

“I want everyone to see that I’m more than just a puncher. I know that I can go toe-to-toe with anybody. I have to look really good in this fight. I have to show the world that I’m talented and ready for the title shot. I want to achieve my goals and Kyrone is standing in my way. He knows that this is a fight that he needs to win to continue fighting at this level. He’s got a lot of good experience, but I’m hungry too. I train really hard to win,” he added.

“I’m proud of where I’m from. I wear 602 on the beltline of my trunks and that’s because I’m proud to represent Phoenix,” he continued.

“We’re excited to keep being in big fights and performing well. It’s important for us to stay humble. We want to entertain the fans, that’s the most important thing. It’s great to see Elijah’s support, especially here in Arizona. There’s a lot of great fans here who love boxing. It’s motivating to have your people behind you,” said Jorge Garcia, Elijah’s Father and Trainer.

Gervonta Davis’ punching power was proved once again when he took on the punch machine challenge.

The hard-hitting 5ft 5ins unbeaten American boxing star has a stunning record of 29-0 (27 KOs) – which gives him a 93 per cent knockout ratio.

His next fight looks set to be against Frank Martin on June 15, and fans will be expecting another KO.

And it’s easy to see why when you look back to Tank’s history of proving his power.

Prior to Deontay Wilder vs Dominic Breazeale in 2019, both heavyweights made separate appearances on the Inside PBC Boxing show to give interviews and test their strength on the punch machine.

Coincidentally, a young Davis was on the same programme as Breazeale and so also had a go at the challenge.

Wilder sent a rhyming video message to the pair before the show began and challenged them both to beat his high score of 927, that he previously set with his weaker left hand.

“Well, well, well, if it isn’t Gervonta Davis and Dominic Breazeale,” Wilder said, “Welcome fellas to a place where we will test your will.

“The bag that is placed before you will test your power and your skill.

“When I did it, I calculated a whopping 927.

“And that was only with my left hand, so imagine if I touch either of your chins, you’re bound to go to heaven.

“That’s enough about me, it’s all about you today. So step up to the plate and test your fate. Let the world see if you’ve got what it takes.”

Davis stepped up first and smashed the punch machine with his southpaw left hand.

He scored an incredible 939 and then realised he’d surpassed Wilder: “I beat him!”

Next came Breazeale who was only able to register a score of 889, despite holding a huge size advantage over Tank.

Tank’s record even surpassed that of Anthony Joshua, though the Brit’s score admittedly did come on a different machine.

Joshua took the punch machine challenge during an appearance on the Graham Norton show in 2017.

He let his fellow guests – actors Rachel Weisz, Martin Freeman and Greg Davies – go first.

They scored 182, 594 and 632 respectively before AJ turned up and smashed it with his right hand.

He scored 848 – breaking the machine’s existing record of 787.

Gervonta Davis and Jay-Z have made the headlines together yet again. After giving an inspirational speech to Gervonta Davis ahead of the marquee contest against Ryan Garcia in 2023, he again mentioned the name of the Baltimore native on the stage. However, this time, he didn’t do something inspirational, instead he used his rhyming skills to utter his name through one of his live verses.

Jay-Z used a reference to Gervonta Davis during his rap at a live concert, which was a way of expressing his love for his favorite boxer. During the concert, Jay-Z sang, “Face keeps popping up, On the tube, I am just watching Tank box him up.” Well, it’s safe to say that Davis felt honored to get mentioned by one of the best rappers in the history of hip-hop. So, Davis showed his gratitude towards Jay-Z on the X app as well.

Gervonta Davis writes, “Don’t slow me down bruv”

Legendary rapper Jay-Z played a key role in Gervonta Davis’ dominant victory over Ryan Garcia in 2023. Before entering the ring, Davis was fired up by a motivational speech delivered by Jay-Z. The powerful words, undoubtedly, fueled his determination as he stepped out to the energetic sounds of Chief Keef’s “Love Sosa.” Davis went on to secure a knockout win, extending his undefeated record and handing Garcia his first professional loss.

Now, after being referenced in a Jay-Z track, he responded to the video and added two emojis in the reactions. He used the ‘salute’ emoji to pay his respect to the rap legend. Moreover, he also followed up his reactions with a follow-up tweet. In the tweet, Tank wrote, “Some think it’s impossible until it’s done..don’t slow me down bruv, I got a lot of heart!

Well, this might be taken as a random post, but it came only a few hours after Tank responded to Jay-Z’s reference. Besides the inspirational speech, Davis also received crucial advice from Jay-Z personally before his fight against Ryan Garcia.

Davis recalls a pep talk from Jay-Z

Boxer Gervonta Davis, nicknamed “Tank,” is undefeated in the ring and building a reputation outside of it as well. This celebrity status is further fueled by his connections in the music industry. Tank counts megastars like Drake and Jay-Z as friends.

Furthermore, he was with these stars, nights before he faced ‘KingRy’. During that meetup, he spent some alone time with Jay-Z, where the rapper gave him crucial advice. Davis recalled in an interview, “Yeah, he’s telling me like, ‘Stay focused’. He’s just telling me certain stuff like what the other guy [Ryan Garcia] is doing. I don’t wanna say it because I don’t want him to know it. But he tells me like, ‘You stay on point,’ and tells me his [Garcia’s] mistakes and stuff like that.

So, it’s safe to say that Davis and Jay-Z are quite close to each other and they never waste an opportunity to showcase their bond to the fans. What are your thoughts about this? Tell us in the comments section.

Who really dominates the boxing world? Canelo Alvarez, with his storied legacy, or the rising star Gervonta Davis? Both fighters carry the mantle of greatness, yet their paths are uniquely their own. Carlos Takam, a seasoned fighter himself, sees them as the sport’s leading icons. But why these two? Canelo’s record gleams with multi-division titles and a staggering record of 60-2-2.

On the other hand, Davis, has been unbeaten since he started and has beaten the likes of Ryan Garcia. As the debate heats up, one bold claim from Davis challenges the status quo. Could he truly overshadow boxing’s reigning titan?

Gervonta Davis sets sights on Frank Martin

In the high-stakes world of boxing, Gervonta Davis is gearing up for a compelling encounter against Frank Martin. Confirmed sources of ESPN reveal this bout is set for late spring or early summer, marking a pivotal moment in both fighters’ careers. Amid this anticipation, a fan’s tweet sparked widespread discussion: “If Gervonta Ko’s Frank I’m deadass he surpasses Canelo as face of boxing.”

Unfazed and confident, Davis’ retort was bold and straightforward: “I already did.” As the match draws near, the boxing community buzzes with anticipation, poised to witness whether Davis can back up his words with action in the ring.

Who has the better Pay-per-view powerplay?

Initially, one fan reaction highlights the significant discrepancy in pay-per-view (PPV) sales between Davis and Canelo, emphasizing that Alvarez’s draw is so strong he could attract massive buys against any opponent, a feat Davis has yet to achieve. This perspective underscores the commercial aspect, suggesting that Canelo’s box office appeal remains unparalleled.

Further complicating the debate, a third fan points out a gap in public recognition. They note that Canelo is a household name even among those who follow boxing casually, while Davis, albeit popular, hasn’t achieved that level of universal acclaim.

Moreover, the discussion takes a turn with a critique focusing on the lack of a “chokehold” impact from Davis on boxing enthusiasts and social media, unlike the frenzy Canelo generates with merely an announcement.

The conversation shifts to a critical analysis of Davis’ focus on financial gains over a lasting legacy. A fan argues that this approach, coupled with his relatively narrow following, undermines his position in the debate about the sport’s leading figure.

Do you believe Gervonta Davis has truly done enough to eclipse Canelo Alvarez, or is this claim yet another chapter in the saga of boxing’s ever-evolving narrative?

It’s been nearly a year since Gervonta Davis got back to the sweet science. However, fans might just get to witness his comeback to the sport soon enough. The Baltimore native last appeared in the ring in April last year when he knocked out Ryan Garcia. And now rumors suggest he might take on Frank Martin.

The slated date for the potential fight is set on June 15, and adding to the excitement, ‘Tank’ Davis just issued a statement hinting at a nail-biting showdown. Turning to X (formerly Twitter), the WBA lightweight champion made his thoughts known to the public today!

Leonard Ellerbe responds to Gervonta Davis

Earlier today, Davis wrote, “[I don’t know] nothing about nothing, but somebody gonna sleep soon..” Even though there hasn’t been an official announcement to confirm the fight as of right now, the CEO of Davis’ former promotional company, Leonard Ellerbe, hinted at the fight being finalized. He wrote back, “Mark it down.”

Despite Davis’ popularity and impeccable skills, Martin is no pushover. Boasting an impressive 18-0 record, the Detroit native has a total of 12 knockout wins. If the fight becomes real, Martin will be desperately looking to halt Davis’ undefeated run. However, Martin isn’t the only potential opponent the Baltimore native had the option to fight.

Eddie Hearn on Davis vs. Conor Benn

Earlier last month, there were strong indications that Davis would fight Conor Benn. Even Mathchroom Boxing head, Eddie Hearn, claimed he had sent a $25 million offer for the fight. However, Davis leaked their conversation on X, claiming Hearn only offered him $10 million, far from what Hearn claimed later.

‘The Distroyer’ Benn later clarified that the Davis would get a $10 million guarantee, and the rest would come from the pay-per-view sales and whatnot. What’s more, Hearn wasn’t happy that Davis leaked their messages.

In an interview with Boxing Social, Hearn stated, “I don’t know why I waste my time with this guy, [he’s] like a baby. If you’re not willing to sit down and have a sensible business discussion, like, he doesn’t even know the details of the offer…We made him an eight-figure offer with plenty of upside. He doesn’t even want to discuss the upside because he just gets ill advice.”

With that said, as things are right now, Davis seems to have limited choices, with Frank Martin standing out as the primary option. However, things can always go sideways in the sport of boxing, so only time will tell whether the fight becomes real. Do you think the Gervonta Davis vs. Frank Martin fight would happen? Do you think Davis’ message was for Martin? Let us know in the comments section below!

In the future, David Benavidez could be where Canelo Alvarez is today! However, a fight between them doesn’t seem possible at the moment. Recent reports revealed that the Mexican superstar will fight Jamie Munguia or Edgar Berlenga, shattering hope for ‘The Mexican Monster.’ As a result, Benavidez decided to stop waiting around for Canelo to give him a shot at the undisputed middleweight title and cooked up a plan to move weight divisions.

In the latest update, the undefeated Benavidez is making his way up to the light heavyweight division to fight the 20-1 Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Gvozdyk. It will effectively put him on a collision course to face the winner of Artur Beterbiev vs. Dmitry Bivol. He would accomplish two things by fighting Gvozdyk: one, get a shot at the undisputed title in the light heavyweight division and, two defeat the guy who defeated Canelo Alvarez (if Bivol wins against Beterbiev, that is). However, there’s one little caveat that might get overlooked here: he might not be able to come back down in weight and put on the same performance. After all, not everyone is Gervonta Davis. But is moving to light heavyweight such a problematic prospect for Benavidez?

Gervonta Davis: A champion wherever he goes!

Back in June 2021, Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis fought Mario Barrios at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. Both fighters were undefeated at the time, but Barrios’ zero didn’t last for long. After eleven rounds of battle, ‘Tank’ Davis took home the win via technical knockout. He brutalized Barrios, and that too, in his debut in the 140 lbs division.

He was coming off a win over Leo Santa Cruz at lightweight, that too at 130 lbs. More impressively, the Baltimore native went back down to lightweight, after his win, for his next fight against Isaac Cruz and won that one, too. However, the question is, can David Benavidez do the same? Let’s for argument’s sake, consider that he captures the undisputed at light heavyweight by defeating the winner of Beterbiev vs. Bivol. What happens next?

The fate of David Benavidez at 175 pounds

There is a likelihood that Benavidez has a good shot at becoming the best at 175! When he fights Gvozdyk, he will likely win the fight, given Benavidez’s resume in comparison to Gvozdyk. Then, suppose he even gets a shot at the winner of Beterbiev vs. Bivol and miraculously wins. It will definitely solidify his claim to fight Canelo Alvarez, and it will also put pressure on Alvarez for the fight since he demands boxers need to earn a clash against him. However, what if going to 175 makes it difficult for Benavidez to come back down to 168 lbs.

Not just go down in weight, but go down in weight to fight one of the best in the division. It will definitely drain him, and more importantly, once he gets used to the power at a higher division, it will affect his power delivery at a lower division.

It becomes a problem, even more so, because of Benavidez’s height and frame. He is a tall guy with lots of power, but a drained fighter who is used to heavier weights may face issues competing at the same level. Conversely, what if he becomes comfortable with fighting at 175 lbs? There’s no way Canelo will climb to 175 lbs, so he will have to go down, putting himself at a disadvantage. What happened to Ryan Garcia is a great example of this.

Move down in weight didn’t work for Ryan Garcia

Garcia was initially at lightweight, dominating his opponents, having only been knocked down once. He then moved up to super lightweight in 2022 to fight Javier Fortuna, whom he defeated with a sixth-round KO. However, a big money fight and a clash against the best at 135, a.k.a Gervonta Davis, influenced him to move back down in weight.

And when he did go down, everyone knows what happened to the then-undefeated Ryan Garcia. Even though he was on the offensive from the start, soon, Davis took over and knocked out Garcia in the seventh round with a body shot. All the speed Garcia may have gained from the weight cut went down the drain when Davis’ power proved greater.

It’s not like Garcia doesn’t have power, but because he was used to more power at a higher division, it fell short of knocking out or knocking down Davis. However, when Garcia moved back up to 140 lbs to fight Oscar Duarte, he didn’t have much problem stopping Duarte in the eighth round.

The same may happen to Benavidez, who is still very much looking forward to fighting Canelo Alvarez sometime in the future. A fight with Alvarez will then prove problematic for Benavidez, who will have become accustomed to fighting at a higher weight and greater power. The move up is in itself not a bad idea, but coming back to 168 lbs to fight Canelo Alvarez could prove to be his downfall.

At the same time, he could abandon the dream of fighting Canelo and rule over the light heavyweight division. Even still, all this is conjecture until Benavidez does move up and has to move back down. Do you think the fluctuations in weight will affect David Benavidez? Or do you think Benavidez can dominate in both weight classes?

Who truly reigns as boxing’s supreme icon? Armand Carlos Netsing Takam, who once represented Cameroon in the 2004 Olympics, voices his verdict, but with an unexpected twist. Imagine selecting not one, but two faces of boxing. Canelo Alvarez, the Mexican maestro, boasts a staggering 60-2-2 record, shimmering with world titles across four weight classes.

Enter Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis, the dynamo, who once KOed Ryan Garcia and is now preparing to fight Frank Martin. Why this duo? And why not Floyd Mayweather Jr.? Takam’s choice defies the usual one-champion narrative, stirring curiosity. What makes them stand out in his eyes?

In the heart of a heated debate over boxing’s leading figure, Carlos Takam, the 40-8 fighter, delivered his verdict with confidence. In an exclusive interview with EssentiallySports’ Sahil Sood hosted by Press Box PR, Sood probed, “There’s an ongoing debate in the boxing world regarding who deserves the title of face of boxing. Possible contenders are Canelo, Gervonta Davis, and Terence Crawford. Who do you think among these fighters deserve to be the face of the sport?”

Takam’s response was both decisive and enlightening. “Canelo. I’m going to pick two, Canelo and Davis,” he stated, initially placing Alvarez at the forefront. However, he quickly nuanced his stance, “Well, I want to say, I want to pick Davis first and Canelo second.”

Diving into his rationale, Takam highlighted Canelo Alvarez’s exceptional boxing prowess, reflected in his thoughtful admiration of the Mexican champion. “One, I pick Canelo because that guy is a really great boxer, you know, he’s a good boxer. And then I think he was so good that time, when they put him against Mayweather. But that fight, I think it was too soon to put him against Mayweather. Canelo won that fight, not the fight, but the experience, you know. He learned many things about that fight with Mayweather. And he’s a good fighter. You know, when you see Canelo fight, people enjoy when they see Canelo fight.”

His commentary not only shed light on Alvarez’s storied career but also underscored the respect he holds for Gervonta Davis. Takam elaborated on his admiration for Davis, “And Davis, I want to pick Davis. Why? He’s a young guy, strong guy. They call him Tank, right? Really strong. And then I like the way he fight. I like the way he fights. I see many of his fights, I see many of his training. It’s no excuse. You know, he goes to fight, he doesn’t go to job. He’s a warrior, like they say in Africa, he’s a lion. Yes, he’s a lion.”

Through Takam’s lens, the conversation illuminated the qualities that, in his view, position Canelo Alvarez and Gervonta Davis as frontrunners for the face of boxing—melding prowess, resilience, and the sheer spectacle of their presence in the ring

Before Ryan Garcia arrived on the scene, Devin Haney had his beef going on with Gervonta Davis. And the two fighters were duking it out on social media. However, their beef could never turn into a real fight. And when Devin Haney’s team saw no future in trash-talking with ‘Tank’, they turned their head towards Ryan Garcia, who was ready to accept the bout. However, their rivalry was ignited once again in the boxing community, after Garcia leaked an old footage of their sparring session. In the video, Davis seemed to be dominating Haney, but still surprisingly, this didn’t change the opinion of the Youtuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul at all. He still chose Devin Haney over Gervonta Davis.

Jake Paul has been mesmerized by Haney’s prowess in the sport, ever since he won his fight against Regis Prograis. He praised him on the victory and talked about how his performance against Prograis was so immaculate, that it put him above Terence Crawford. He branded Haney as the No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter. Well, he’s again made his pick in the favor of Haney. After the sparring video got leaked, the fans started comparing the two fighters, Davis and Haney, yet again.

Because of this, many fans are siding with the Baltimore native since he was the one who dominated ‘The Dream’. That’s when Paul cleared his stance by writing on X, “Haney over Davis any day as long as it’s a fair fight without weight draining tactics. Any f***ing day.

Well, this tweet came out of nowhere, but it must reflect like a ray of sunshine and hope for Haney, amidst all the backlash being thrown at him. Well, Haney did the same for Paul when he was about to head into his previous fight against Andre August.

Devin Haney also backed up Jake Paul

The relationship between Paul and Haney is quite mutual. They both support each other in their respective fights, just like Paul did a few hours ago. Similarly, before ‘The Problem Child’ knocked out August in the first round, Haney was asked about his opinions on the fight. Without thinking too much, he picked the 27-year-old for the victory and talked about him in high regard.

Haney said, “Let’s go Jake, that’s my boy. I want Jake to win.” Then he even agreed to the fact that Paul would be able to knock out his opponent in the earlier rounds of the fight. Well, that is exactly what happened. Paul was so happy about the support that he instantly shared the clip on his Instagram Story. Well, this made the camaraderie between the fighters quite strong.

So, Paul has yet again proven that he will always believe Devin Haney to be the best boxer in the sport currently. What are your thoughts about this? Let us know in the comments section.
