Promoter Eddie Hearn was in Edinburgh today to kick-off proceedings for the April 27 bout between rivals Josh Taylor and Jack Catterall, revealing to Pro Boxing Fans that Davis had refused the offer to fight Benn.

Davis initially reached out to Hearn about fighting Benn following the Englishman’s unanimous points win over Peter Dobson on February 3 in Las Vegas.

“There’s a lot of movement for Conor Benn,” Hearn added. “There are probably five fights at the moment for Conor Benn. They are approaching the contractual stage.”

Hearn refused to name the interested parties who might feature in Benn’s summer return, which Hearn is hoping can be held in the UK as Benn and the British Boxing Board of Control are due to discuss Benn’s ongoing anti-doping issues following two failed VADA accredited drug tests before his canceled 2022 encounter with rival Chris Eubank Jr.

Benn was cleared to resume his career by the National Anti-Doping panel in July 2023. However, the BBBofC and UKAD almost immediately appealed the decision.

As a consequence, Benn traveled to the United States to continue his career, making his ring return in September in Florida against Rodolfo Orozco, ending a 17-month absence, and he boxed Dobson in Las Vegas last month.

Hearn, however, did confirm that he would reach out to former two-weight world champion Danny Garcia, who threw his name into the hat to face Benn this past weekend.

“I want to see him [Benn] fight in the UK next, and it’s going to be a massive fight,” Hearn said.

“Danny Garcia reached out to our team to talk to me directly, and I’ll be talking to him this week. I love the fight with Danny Garcia, the USA or the UK. Like I said, four or five names, and he’s definitely in the mix.”.

Following Hearn’s comments that Davis refused to entertain him in that proposed contest, Benn took aim at the Baltimore lightweight with a one-line response.

“Don’t ever @ me ever again. @gervontaa,” Benn wrote on X.

There have been many great fighters over the years, but very few have had as much impact as Gervonta Davis. His undefeated record is evidence of his skills. Davis has not fought since he defeated Ryan Garcia in April last year. While he did have an offer to fight Devin Haney, Tank rejected the offer, claiming to want at least a few Ferraris from the Saudis as a gift for making the fight.

However, after Conor Benn defeated Peter Dobson earlier this month, Davis responded to Benn and asked him to make him an offer for a fight. Eddie Hearn, elated by the discourse, even sent Tank an offer worth about $15 million dollars. But it seems now that their fight will not be taking place. Let us find out why.

What happens now?

Boxing reporter, Michael Benson revealed some important news regarding the matter. Benson wrote, “Eddie Hearn has revealed that Gervonta Davis has not accepted their offer for the Conor Benn fight as things stand,”. According to Benson, Hearn has revealed that Davis has rejected their fight offer for Conor Benn. While the reasons remain unknown, it is sad that the two will not be fighting.

Benson proceeded by adding, “So they are now in talks with Danny Garcia, as well as four/five other potential opponents for Benn’s next fight,” revealing that Hearn has talked of a plausible fight against Danny Garcia and many other fighters for Conor Benn. Considering Benn’s notoriety, Ring Magazine’s trainer of the year, Bob Santos put his thoughts on Conor Benn, fighting his pupil, Mario Barrios.

Is Conor Benn vs. Mario Barrios a good idea?

Mario Barrios, the WBC World Interim welterweight champion, was called out by Conor Benn. Bob Santos, his trainer, gave his thoughts on the matter. Bob Santos believes that Conor Benn vs. Mario Barrios will be a challenging bout, possibly even more so than Conor Benn vs. IBF welterweight champion Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis.

“Either fight would be a difficult fight, but that is what Mario Barrios has always been about. He has been about challenges,” said Santos. He proceeded to say, “One thing I like about Mario Barrios is he is a guy who never made excuses.” Santos believes it will be a challenging fight for both opponents. However, it remains to be seen if a fight between the two will in fact happen.

There was a time when the fight between Gervonta Davis and Devin Haney was in the talks for quite some time. Even though the highly sought-after Davis-Haney fight fell apart, the animosity between the two teams is still very much alive. And on this note, Haney’s father recently made a video against team Gervonta Davis.

As of now, Devin Haney is preparing for his fight against Davis’ former opponent, Ryan Garcia. Looking at the upcoming fight, the dynamic duo who train Gervonta Davis, coach Calvin Ford, and his trusted aide, Kenny Ellis, not long ago favored Ryan Garcia to take home the victory. Well, this didn’t sit well with Devin Haney’s father and he responded on social media with a video taking shots at the duo. But who is this “dummy”?

Bill Haney imitates a fictional conversation between Calvin Ford and Kenny Ellis

Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis was freed from his ankle monitor and was relieved of his court-ordered house arrest in a hit-and-run case a few days ago. Bill Haney, referring to Calvin Ford as “Yo” and Kenny Ellis as “Dummy” shared a funny clip talking about Gervonta Davis’ recent relief from the GPS ankle monitor before moving on to berate Calvin Ford and Kenny Ellis.

Bill Haney said, “Breaking News. Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis just released from GPS ankle monitoring and what a wonderful blessing that is for boxing. But we have a little bit of confusion within the camp and community and today we have Yo and Dummy to tell us what’s going on.” Then he made it clear who he was referring to as Yo and Dummy. He played the video of Ford saying, “I’m going with Ryan on this fight,” and Ellis adding, “I don’t think it’s gonna happen because Ryan is a threat.

The potential fight between Conor Benn and Gervonta Davis has been given an update, after promoter Eddie Hearn was asked whether or not the offer to ‘Tank’ has been accepted yet.

It was revealed earlier this month that the Matchroom Boxing chief had sent an offer to American superstar Gervonta Davis about a potential showdown with Conor Benn, after the two men went back and forth on social media.

With talk of the bout appearing to simmer down, Hearn was asked by Pro Boxing Fans whether or not he had received a response from Davis.

One name that Hearn did divulge was Danny Garcia, and he says he would love to potentially make that fight on either side of the Atlantic.

An answer on the location of Conor Benn’s next fight could become clearer once the outcome of his appeal with the British Boxing Board of Control is finalised.

Conor Benn is unhappy with Gervonta Davis’ decision not to accept an offer to fight him.

‘The Destroyer’ is fresh off a destructive win over Peter Dobson earlier this month in Las Vegas. For Benn, the victory was just his second since late 2022. That October, the Brit famously had his career interrupted by a drug test failure.

As a result, a scheduled pay-per-view fight with Chris Eubank Jr. was scrapped. However, Benn seemingly has a new lease on life with his latest win. Quickly, several high-profile names, including former champion Adrien Broner, called him out.

Gervonta Davis

However, Davis zeroed in on Benn as his next opponent. ‘Tank’ has been out of action since a dominant knockout victory over Ryan Garcia last spring. Following the win, the WBA Super lightweight champion went on a bit of a hiatus.

Talks between Davis and Benn quickly heated up, with Eddie Hearn sending an offer to the champion. Sadly, it seems that the figure wasn’t high enough. Earlier today, the head of Matchroom revealed that Davis turned down an offer to fight the British boxer.

As a result, Benn took to Instagram stories and wrote:

Conor Benn and Gervonta Davis are two of the most controversial personalities in boxing today. With interest in fighting one another appearing out of thin air earlier this month, the matchup had some boxing fans salivating. However, Davis has not yet accepted an offer from Matchroom Boxing, so promoter Eddie Hearn will look to keep Benn busy.

The Sporting News previously reported on the idea of Benn vs. Davis. The two got into it on social media after what was considered a subpar performance by Benn against Peter Dobson in Las Vegas. Pro Boxing Fans recently asked Hearn about an update on that potential clash at the Josh Taylor vs. Jack Catterall 2 press conference.

“No, not yet. We’ll see where that goes. There’s a lot of movement on Conor Benn. There is probably five fights at the moment for Conor Benn,” Hearn said. “I’m not going to go into them. They are approaching contractual stage. We had the hearing last week. In a couple of weeks, it should be resolved, and then we’ll decide where we’re going to fight. I want to see him fight in the U.K. next, and it’s going to be a massive fight.”

Gervonta Davis

The hearing Hearn referred to was with UKAD/ British Board of Control concerning Benn’s two failed VADA tests from late 2022. The fighter tested positive for clomifene, which derailed a money-spinning showdown with rival Chris Eubank Jr. and led to a ban from competing on U.K. soil. Benn’s last two fights have taken place in the U.S. and he now seeks to secure a U.K. license.

“Tank’s” last contest was a knockout win over Ryan Garcia in April. Like Benn, the American has had a controversial few years. He recently pled guilty to four traffic offenses following his alleged involvement in a hit-and-run incident in November 2020. Davis was sentenced to 90 days of house arrest but was then taken into custody and served his remaining sentence behind bars after violating the terms of his home detention.

If a fight between Benn and Davis isn’t close to becoming a reality, then what about former champ Danny Garcia?

Will Conor Benn fight Danny Garcia?

Garcia is a former WBA, WBC and Ring Magazine super lightweight champion as well as a WBC welterweight champion. “Swift,” 35, expressed interest in facing the brash 27-year-old.

“I would love to fight him at 154. That makes great sense. He wants to fight a big name,” Garcia told YSM Sports Media via Boxing News 24/7. “Garcia vs. Benn. There ain’t no bigger fight than fighting Danny Garcia. So, I would love that fight. If the price is right, I would go anywhere.”

Garcia is a big name for Benn, though the former hasn’t fought since beating Jose Benavidez Jr. in July 2022. And that was his first contest since losing to Errol Spence Jr. in 2020.

Hearn is not opposed to Benn fighting someone like Garcia, who has beaten the likes of Erik Morales, Amir Khan, Zab Judah and Paulie Malignaggi.

“Not major talks, but Danny Garcia reached out to our team to talk to me direct. I’ll be talking to him this week,” said Hearn. “I love the fight with Danny Garcia, U.S.A. or U.K. There are four or five names and he’s definitely in the mix.”

Gervonta Davis has hit back at a Devin Haney fan after being trolled by them on social media.

Davis (29-0) and Haney (31-0) are both considered to be two of the best active lightweights in boxing. Due to their talents in the ring and the fact they have both held multiple lightweight titles, the pair have often been rumored to face one another.

‘Tank’ is also yet to book a fight in 2024, whereas ‘The Dream’ announced earlier this month he will face Ryan Garcia in April. Davis previously faced Garcia last year, stopping him in the seventh round of their clash.

Whilst a bout between the two lightweight stars has yet to materialize, fans of both boxers have often debated about the outcome.

Gervonta Davis

A Devin Haney fan is sure of the outcome, however, after they fired a shot at Gervonta Davis on X (formerly Twitter).

The fan responded to a clip of Haney dominating George Kambosos Jr. in 2022, and stated that he believes Haney would do the same to Davis.

The 29-year-old didn’t take kindly to the fans assessment and immediately fired back with a savage response.

As shared by talkSPORT boxing editor Michael Benson, the fan wrote:

There’s no one in sight for Gervonta Davis, aka Abdul Wahid, to face next! However, a fight against rival Devin Haney came close when Turki Alalshikh offered to host the fight in Saudi Arabia. Alas, that fight never came to be! Even still, ‘Tank’ Davis is unwilling to tolerate any spicy comments on their rivalry, something that became evidently clear in an X interaction between him and a fan!

Devin Haney is about to enter the ring against Davis’ old opponent, Ryan Garcia, on April 20. It’s a fight with all the right ingredients for becoming the fight of the year. However, just a few months ago, a certain clip of Haney and Davis sparring in the Mayweather Gym sparked conversation as to who had the upper hand. Since then, the topic of both of them fighting or anything close has been a sour spot for Davis. So, when a fan made a rather spicy comment on X today, Davis aimed for the fans’ kids in response.

Gervonta Davis labels the critic “Dweeb”

Earlier today, an X user shared a clip of Davin Haney and George Kambosos Jr from their fight! He captioned the clip, “Never forget when Devin Haney styled on George Kambosos so hard he started mumbling to himself.” Seeing this clip of Haney showcasing boxing brilliance, leaving Kambosos staggered, the fan presented a harsh take.

The user wrote, “He would do [Gervonta Davis] the same way.” And this was obviously a mistake, something the user realized when ‘Tank’ decided to respond to the tweet hours later. Annoyed by the comment, Davis wrote back, “I would have him like you and your kids in ya profile pic..dweeb.” It’s worth mentioning that the user had his kids sleeping next to him in the profile picture. Meanwhile, a former world champion suggested other fighters will outgrow Davis.

Former legend thinks Davis needs to fight Devin Haney and Shakur Stevenson

A question that has been plaguing the boxing world since Gervonta Davis defeated Ryan Garcia in their last outing is, who will Davis fight next? Some of the obvious contenders are Devin Haney, Shakur Stevenson, and Teofimo Lopez! And Roy Jones Jr. agrees! He goes as far as to suggest that if ‘Tank’ doesn’t fight them now, these fighters will outgrow him.

While speaking to Boxing Scene, Jones Jr. stated, “You want to see him fight Shakur. Yeah, you want to see him fight Haney. Haney is probably going to outgrow him. Shakur ain’t going to be far behind that because [Gervonta Davis] is short, and they’re not.” Jones further added, “So, if he’s going to fight one of them, he better hurry up and do it now because the longer he waits, the more it weighs in their favor.”

With no opponent in sight and a history with Devin Haney, Gervonta Davis could not tolerate the comment from one of his critics on the internet. However, since Davis has refused to cooperate in arranging a fight against Haney, one has to wonder how true the comment from the user is. What are your thoughts on the conversation? Do you think Davis took it too far?

Devin Haney cruises through against Ryan Garcia, winning on point. That’s how the majority of fans visualize the showdown between the childhood foes going down this April 20 on DAZN. But you should hold on to that thought and reimagine the complete scenario. Is it this simple for ‘The Dream’ to go up against a man who is equal in scores with him? Is the champion’s boxing prowess enough to put out the burning fire of the challenger?

The odds and pundits have it in favor of the WBC super lightweight champion. A stacked resume, an unblemished record, and mastery over technical aspects all set Haney apart. Meanwhile, speed, power, and the will to impose himself on his rivals rage hot inside ‘KingRy’. But the pressing question remains. It’s not whether Garcia stands tall after he connects and puts Haney down for the ten count. It’s whether he connects at all.

Devin Haney vs. Ryan Garcia: method vs. madness

George Kambosos Jr.Vasily Lomachenko, and Regis Prograis were all left in the dust after Haney worked his charm as a highly skilled boxer. He is gradually peaking as he brings skills to the table when matched. Jabs and fighting on the backfoot come along with the package. However, Ryan’s speed and power pose a significant danger to the boxing standard Haney holds close to his heart.

Despite brushing aside the veterans and prominent names, Haney hasn’t fought anyone remotely as powerful as Ryan since turning pro. Moreover, the 31-0 record holder has been hurt by Lomachenko, Jorge Linares, and Joseph ‘JoJo’ Diaz. It’s a clear tussle between Haney’s weak chin and Garcia’s thunderous left hook.

While Haney can dance around using his back-step approach, he can’t keep it moving all day. With Garcia’s hand speed, he is sure to land at some point, and a shot at the chin is all it takes. But only power and hand speed are not enough. You need high-level footwork to keep everything in tandem. What else does the 24-1 record holder need, then?

Ryan Garcia’s supposed upturn after the Gervonta Davis fight

Combinations, sharpness, and skills. Garcia needs to employ all three. Otherwise, Haney’s staple jab will keep him at bay, and whenever Garcia tries to force his way in, the WBC champion will clutch and hold him. If Garcia of the Gervonta Davis fight had shown up, he would have failed. But we now have a new, keen-to-learn Garcia since that defeat.

Since dropping to the fight, Garcia has moved up to 140. With more bulk on his frame, he has more chances to build up his power and not sacrifice it while trying to make the weight. Fans witnessed the same when Garcia punched his way to victory against Oscar Duarte after his Floyd Mayweather-esque roll didn’t reap benefits.

In addition, the Victorville native’s eagerness to add more weapons to his arsenal is apparent. Despite his new skills being far from polished and adjustments still not sinking deep into his game yet, the fans can expect him to come into the squared ring with something similar. A loss has necessitated all these changes, and Garcia realizes his hand speed and his left hook have taken him only this far. He needs to mix it up to go further. While Garcia’s hitting remains stingy on the opponent’s flesh, he needs to match it up with elite footwork, and that’s where Derrick James comes in.

‘KingRy’: a finished product under Derrick James

Where does Haney separate himself from Garcia? Undoubtedly, it’s the tools that Haney has at his disposal. He has developed multifaceted skills, while Garcia got spoiled with power. But he has Derrick James in his corner and is rounding up his game and working on the fundamentals. Even if you spot the challenger unloading a shoulder roll, it will be much cleaner.

Keith Thurman isn’t Ryan Garcia. But why does he stress this? Garcia, once undefeated, met his match in Gervonta Davis during their historic April 2023 bout. A brutal body shot in the seventh round sealed Garcia’s fate, marking his first professional loss in a dramatic fashion. It wasn’t just a loss; it was a pivotal moment where Ryan faced a significant setback in his rising career.

Thurman, observing from afar, with a seasoned record of 30-1, draws a distinct line between himself and Garcia. Is it confidence or a subtle taunt? Thurman sees something in Garcia’s downfall that he confidently knows doesn’t apply to him. What could it be?

Keith Thurman believes Ryan Garcia had immaturity going into the Tank fight

In the heart of a revealing interview with ESNews, Keith Thurman sheds light on his perspective, offering a critical view of Ryan Garcia’s defeat at the hands of Gervonta Davis. Thurman suggests, “It was evident that Ryan Garcia had immaturity going into that fight, okay? We know this in boxing, that even with talent, you should groom him, right? He had skills, but he was not well-groomed, and it was evident in the performance.”

Gervonta Davis

Furthermore, Thurman distinguishes himself from Garcia, stating, “Keith Thurman is solid, solidified, well-groomed, and that’s why I said I’m not a Ryan Garcia. No disrespect to Ryan Garcia.” This declaration not only highlights Thurman’s confidence in his own preparation and mental fortitude but also sets the stage for the interviewer’s next question, which directly addresses the potential of a fight between Thurman and Davis.

Responding to whether he could beat Tank Davis, Thurman confidently replies, “Oh, I mean, it’s the Thurman test. If you can beat me, beat me. But boy, is it going to be a challenge.” Through this conversation, Thurman articulates a clear message: he is a different breed of fighter, one who is not only aware of his own capabilities but also keenly observant of the nuances that separate the champions from the contenders.

Ryan and Davis’ fans might think that Keith Thurman is just yapping here, but they aren’t the only ones. Tim Tszyu, who is set to fight Thurman on March 30 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, also thinks that Thurman talks a bit too much.

Tim Tszyu believes Thurman is all bark and no bite

Tim Tszyu didn’t hold back when responding to Keith Thurman’s comments about him, questioning the logic behind his statements. “I’m not sure what he’s implying there. Maybe he thinks I’m easy to hit?” Tszyu retorted. Tszyu further dissected Thurman’s character, stating, “The guy doesn’t think before he speaks. He’s just a little yapper.”

He drew parallels between Thurman’s pre-fight antics with Manny Pacquiao and his current behavior. “And I’ve always found the bigger the dog, the less they bark. But Chihuahuas, they’re [going to] yap. It’s all for show,” Tszyu added, painting Thurman as more bark than bite in the buildup to their potential showdown.

When words turn into punches, who will have the last word? Will Thurman’s experience and self-assuredness prevail, or will Tszyu’s determination and critique of Thurman’s approach prove to be the winning formula?
