Gervonta Davis

Gervonta Davis needs to get back in the mix. Normally, that isn’t a huge issue. The lightweight division usually affords him with a ton of fighters to choose from. But, his options, at least for now, are limited.

Devin Haney is getting ready for his showdown against Ryan Garcia, William Zepeda isn’t a household name, Vasiliy Lomachenko is tied up with George Kambosos Jr., and Shakur Stevenson is searching for new employment since announcing his retirement recently. So, it’s time to get creative.

Conor Benn recently grabbed Davis’ attention. The welterweight Brit might be fresh off a lopsided win over Peter Dobson, but Davis seemingly saw enough to want a fight with him next.

After a curse-filled back and forth over social media, Eddie Hearn, Benn’s promoter, revealed that he gave Davis a call and is currently doing his best to make the fight happen. Going into complete details in terms of the financial portion could lead to talks going nowhere. So while Hearn wouldn’t let the cat out of the bag, he did admit that Davis has a huge paycheck waiting on him if he decides to take the deal.

“It was a significant offer,” explained Hearn to Boxing Social. “An eight-figure offer with plenty of upside. I want to try and make the fight. We’re trying to make it work.”

Only a handful of fighters command more money than Davis. Hearn knows it. But outside of getting Davis to agree to his financial terms, Hearn has another hurdle to overcome.

Davis has spent a ton of his career fighting at 135 pounds. Benn, on the other hand, is a sturdy welterweight. Davis has made a few appearances above the lightweight limit though. Keeping that in mind, if he wants a matchup with Benn, he’ll have to acquiesce to his weight demands.

“147 pounds,” said Hearn when asked at what weight would Davis vs. Benn take place. “Gervonta’s boxed at 140 before. Gervonta’s boxed at 136, so 147 pounds.”

Bob Arum is confident that the current WBC champion will give Gervonta Davis, now Abdul Wahid after converting to Islam, one of the toughest fights in his career. However, since the boxer in question is not as big as Davis’ last opponent Ryan Garcia, the 92-year-old doubts if ‘Tank’ would show interest in the fight. But, should the fight happen, it would be one of the biggest events in contemporary boxing.

Although the boxer in question was heavily criticized for his performance in his last fight, Arum is confident that the 26-year-old would put ‘Tank’ in a fix. So, who is he? And why would Davis not want to fight him? Well, here is what Bob Arum said.

Bob Arum believes this 21-0 boxer will give Gervonta Davis a run for the money

Of late, Shakur Stevenson took to social media to announce his retirement from the sport. However, Stevenson also implied he would return if he were offered big fights. On that note, several fans sought Shakur Stevenson vs. Gervonta Davis. In this context, on being asked whether or not Stevenson vs. Davis could come to fruition, Bob Arum said, “As far as Shakur is concerned, he wants to do that fight.”

And it’s not Haymon, it’s not anybody. Gervonta Davis has to want to do that fight. Remember, he came off a big payday with Garcia. And even though it’s a much more difficult fight, fighting Shakur doesn’t give him the same payday,” added Arum.

Because, again, Garcia inflates the numbers because of his social media presence. That’s not a knock on Garcia. That’s a compliment that he’s able to bring that to the table. But, again, it has nothing to do with a fighter’s ability or inability. It is what it is,” Arum explained. In this connection, it is worth mentioning that Shakur was confident about getting a fight against ‘Tank’.

Shakur was confident he would fight ‘Tank’ Davis

In August last year, before the Edwin De Los Santos fight, Shakur Stevenson told the 2nd Win Podcast he saw a fight with Davis happening in the future. Likewise, he even claimed Shakur vs. Davis would be “the biggest boxing fight in the world” when it took place. In addition, he had said, “I think Tank will sign that contract and I’m gonna sign the contract too.” However, a month later, Shakur revealed why he could not make an offer to Davis.

On the Million Dollaz Worth of Game podcast, Stevenson labeled ‘Tank’ as the pay-per-view star. In his opinion, since Davis’ was a bigger name, Shakur could not send ‘Tank’ an offer. However, he emphasized that he was open to fighting Davis any day. Do you think Shakur Stevenson will give Gervonta Davis a tougher fight than Garcia? Let us know in the comments below.

Could we see a huge fight in 2024?

In an unlikely development, it looks like talks are underway for Conor Benn to face Gervonta Davis at some point in 2024.

It was revealed last week that Eddie Hearn would be making an offer to ‘Tank’ regarding a jump to welterweight following Benn’s most recent win, a points decision over Peter Dobson.

Benn’s name has constantly been linked to huge fights with Chris Eubank Jr and Kell Brook often the frontrunners in the United Kingdom.

Davis is the latest fighter to be added to the list, and George Groves, a former world champion at 168lbs, has had his say on the intriguing clash.

“I dunno, I wouldn’t go against Davis,” said Groves when speaking on the Froch on Fighting show.

Benn, is the best still yet to come? He’s naturally bigger but doesn’t have a comprehensive boxing background.”

Would you believe that if Gervonta Davis, now Abdul Wahid after converting to Islam, wanted to fight Chris Eubank Jr., he could probably get it? While it remains to be seen how ‘Tank’ would perform against an opponent who is taller and has a better reach, Wahid could potentially make the weight necessary for the fight.

Earlier this year, team Devin Haney wanted to sign a deal with ‘Tank’. In addition, Bob Arum mentioned that Shakur Stevenson would give Davis a tougher fight than Ryan Garcia. However, per a clip that went viral, it seems Davis could afford to overlook the Lightweights in the sport.

Gervonta Davis goes into disbelief as he learns about his weight

Gervonta Davis

A fan took to X and shared a brief clip owned by Showtime. In the clip, Gervonta Davis is seen standing on the scales to know his walking weight. “How much do I weigh?” asks the current WBA Lightweight champion. However, the answer he receives sends ‘Tank’ into complete disbelief. “154!” exclaimed ‘Tank’. And immediately, he emptied his pockets to stand on the scale one more time. “Alright, weigh me one more time,” he is heard saying. At this, the other person replies, “150“.

As expected, the fact that Gervonta Davis, who showed interest in Conor Benn lately, weighed 15 lbs more than a Lightweight surprised the fans. As a result, several fans called him a Middleweight, reacting to the post. One fan wrote, “dude a middleweight“.

One can only speculate that if Davis were to lose the belongings and the clothes he carried, his weight would drop significantly.. Anyway, what is your reaction to the brief clip? Were you surprised too that he weighed in at 155 lbs initially? At that, do you think he should even entertain a fight against a welterweight like Conor Benn? If not, then who would you like to see him against in his comeback fight?

Conor Benn threw a verbal jab that’s hard to ignore. He hinted at a colossal offer made to Gervonta Davis. Benn’s tease suggests millions are on the line. But why the public disclosure? The drama between Benn and Davis isn’t new. Their exchanges have heated up, with each seeking to dominate not just in the ring but in the media too.

Could this be a strategic move or a genuine call to battle? And what’s with Benn’s odd remark about staying home with a “little tag on your ankle”? Intrigued? You should be.

What’s the price of the battle?

Diving straight into the heart of the matter, Conor Benn made headlines with a provocative statement aimed directly at Gervonta Davis. While speaking to reporters inquiring about the substantial eight-figure offer extended to Davis by Eddie Hearn, they sought any recent updates on the matter.

Conor Benn said, revealing the crux of their contention: “Listen, I agree to fight anyone. You know me ain’t, my concern you know. If 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, mil(ion) ain’t enough, then stop hying up on Twitter. Do you know what I mean. Stay quiet. Stay at your house with your little tag on your ankle, with your house arrest instead of piping up on Twitter.” This reply lays bare not just the financial magnitude of the offer but also the personal challenge embedded within.

Furthermore, the exchange between Benn and Davis has been building for some time, marked by a series of callouts and responses that have captivated boxing fans worldwide. Initially, Davis expressed his desire to face Benn after his victory over Peter Dobson, signaling his readiness to escalate their rivalry from verbal spats to a physical showdown in the ring.

Consequently, Eddie Hearn, acting on behalf of Benn, took the negotiation public, presenting an offer that could not only significantly bolster Davis’ career earnings but also potentially set the stage for one of the most anticipated fights in recent memory.

Hearn’s move to seal the Davis vs. Conor Benn showdown

Following Conor Benn’s victory, he took to social media to list his preferred next opponents, with Gervonta Davis prominently featured. This gesture sparked immediate interest in a potential blockbuster matchup. Eddie Hearn, Benn’s promoter, confirmed the brewing anticipation in an interview with iFL TV. Hearn disclosed, “We’ve been running the numbers with DAZN over the last couple of days. And today I will be presenting an offer to Gervonta Davis.

He hinted at the serious intent behind the move, adding, “No doubt it will appear on your social media later when he screenshots it… I’m not gonna tell you what the offer is and call him out on it. I want to talk privately. I want to make the fight.” Hearn’s strategy underscores the complexities and the excitement of negotiating a high-profile fight, signaling both parties’ eagerness to turn speculation into reality.

What do you think—will this much-anticipated bout become a reality, or is it just another chapter in the book of boxing’s greatest matches that never happened?

The fight boxing fans have been waiting for is almost all ready to go. WBC super lightweight champion Devin Haney is set to face off against boxing sensation Ryan Garcia. Golden Boy Promotions took to Twitter to announce the fight to the fans, revealing it to stream live on DAZN PPV, on April 20th. However, it seems that Garcia is still unable to shake off the unfortunate experience from last year.

His defeat against Gervonta Davis has shifted the boxing world’s perspective. As the upcoming fight against Haney approaches, numerous Gervonta Davis fans are revisiting his match from April 2023. However, when a fan recently attempted to use that loss to diminish the challenge awaiting Haney, ‘The Dream’ didn’t let it slide. Here’s how the interaction unfolded.

Devin Haney is proud of his World Titles

When Tank fought Garcia, the matchup was an exciting prospect. However, the way in which Tank defeated Garcia made many question Garcia’s mettle. Though Garcia did claim that he had been hurt in the area previously, a lot of fans don’t buy into his claims. There are some who think the way Tank took down Garcia has now made ‘KingRy’ vulnerable to other fighters. One among them went after Devin Haney.

Gervonta Davis

In the latest turn of events a fan od Tank took to Twitter to write, “Tank already laid the blueprint on how to neutralize Ryan, if you can’t do it after he done showed you then you fo sure not elite or Tank just different, that go for all Ryan future opponents…” According to the fan, after Davis made quick work of Garcia, other fighters shouldn’t have any trouble defeating Garcia and if they are unable to do it that quickly others may not be on the same level as Gervonta Davis.

However, this assessment of his upcoming opponent really got under Devin Haney’s skin. He didn’t hide his disapproval of the fans’ opinions. He boldly challenged the fan writing, “N***a how many world titles u won? U talking like u can do this yourself.” Haney criticized the fan for making such comments without having any experience in the sport.

Ryan Garcia seems to be addressing his weaknesses, and now with Floyd Mayweather in his corner, he has support if needed. Recently, Garcia appears to be contending with another issue that has surfaced.

Did Ryan Garcia get robbed?

In a shocking turn of events, Ryan Garcia recently shared distressing news with his fans – his home was robbed during Super Bowl Weekend. The incident unfolded when Garcia and his family were away. In a social media post, Garcia revealed the unfortunate incident, stating, “They Robbed us this morning! Praise the Lord we weren’t there. He protected me I love you God thank you.” Sharing the surveillance footage of the robbery, he expressed gratitude for his safety during the incident.

Despite his absence, some members of Garcia’s team were present at the time of the burglary, adding an extra layer of distress to the situation. The boxer, who had been looking forward to enjoying Super Bowl Weekend like many others, found himself grappling with the aftermath of the incident.

Garcia’s emotional response was evident as he called for prayers, stating, “Pray for these guys Cause The Anger of the Lord is upon them.” The incident not only shook Garcia, but also left an impact on his team, emphasizing the gravity of the situation.

Six-division world champion Oscar De La Hoya has shared his confusion over the supposed talks between Conor Benn and Gervonta Davis – but has also explained why he feels Benn may be able to win if the bout does materialise.

Benn looked below-par against Peter Dobson last weekend and went the distance for the second time since returning from an almost 18-month spell of inactivity, following the infamous failed doping test that led to the cancellation of his clash with Chris Eubank Jr.

Gervonta Davis

Just hours after the win, Benn’s performance was criticized by ‘Tank’ Davis, who got the ball rolling for a potential contest with the Brit after claiming he would need just three weeks to prepare for ‘The Destroyer’.

Since then, Matchroom Promoter Eddie Hearn has confirmed that an offer has been made to Davis and chances of seeing the fight come to life seem to be growing with every passing day.

Rival promoter Oscar De La Hoya has had his say on the proposed match-up, and explained why he believes Benn would come out on top, despite Davis being ‘the better fighter’, in an interview with FightHype.com.]

Any such bout would likely take place at welterweight and be staged in the United States, due to Benn’s ongoing complications with the BBBofC.

Ryan Garcia tasted defeat for the first time in his career when he came up against Gervonta Davis in April 2023.

Both men are touted as future stars of the sport and entered the ring with undefeated records of 23-0 and 28-0, respectively. After a competitive opening few rounds that saw strong blows landed by both pugilists, ‘Tank’ began asserting his dominance over his opponent.

In Round 7, Davis landed a perfectly placed punch to the liver that forced ‘KingRy’ to take a knee. He was unable to make the referee’s 10-count and was handed his first professional loss.

But Garcia has now opened up about the mole in his camp who leaked information about him suffering a separated rib several weeks before fight night. ‘KingRy’ pointed to his intense weight cut to make 136 pounds as the reason for his rib injury.

He also stated that Floyd Mayweather, a long-time friend and mentor of Davis, paid someone in Garcia’s camp to leak the information about the injury.

During a recent interview with Compas on the Beat, ‘KingRy’ said this:

During his appearance on the Patrick Bet-David Podcast last week, he said this:

Eddie Hearn, the head of Matchroom Boxing, has set his sights on elevating Conor Benn‘s profile in America. He has recently worked on it as well, by pitting him against Gervonta Davis, a prominent figure in American boxing. Following Benn’s victory over Peter Dobson in Las Vegas, critics voiced disappointment over the lack of a knockout against the lesser-known opponent.

Gervonta Davis

Still, Hearn recognized Benn as the most wanted fighter in America. Moreover, among those critics, even Gervonta Davis slammed Benn for not being able to knock out his opponent and stated he could knock Benn out if they ever stepped inside the ring. As a result, Benn also engaged in a bit of trash-talking, however, this wasn’t appreciated by the boxing trainer Brian Mcintyre. Bo-Mac ‘s comments on the recent developments urged Benn to come up with a swift response, harking back to the former’s jail sentencing last year.

ConorBenn will never back down from verbal warfare!

As the verbal sparring between Conor Benn and Gervonta Davis unfolded, Eddie Hearn started planning for the prospect of a showdown between the two fighters. Amidst the potential excitement for fans, Brian McIntyre, however, didn’t share the enthusiasm. From McIntyre’s perspective, the idea of a significantly larger boxer positioning himself against a smaller opponent like Davis raises concerns.

Bob Arum is confident that the current WBC champion will give Gervonta Davis, now Abdul Wahid after converting to Islam, one of the toughest fights in his career.
