Gervonta Davis and Conor Benn could be set to clash in the ring, according to Benn’s promoter, Eddie Hearn.

Hearn is one of the sport’s leading promoters right now and currently operates as the chairman of Matchroom Boxing. His client faced off against Peter Dobson on Feb. 3, a fight which ‘The Destroyer’ won via unanimous decision.

Following the bout, Benn took to X to share a list of names of boxers he would like to face next. Davis’ name was on the list, and it appears the negotiations could be underway to make the fight a reality.

Eddie Hearn was recently interviewed by iFL TV, where he shared a massive update on a potential clash between Benn and ‘Tank’. He said this:

Eddie Hearn has revealed that he’s now sent an official offer to Gervonta Davis for a fight with Conor Benn next.

Hearn said the bout is being eyed for April/May in the USA, if the American star is serious about taking it.

Following Benn’s win over Peter Dobson in Las Vegas on Saturday, he engaged in a fresh back-and-forth with Davis on social media.

This ended with them agreeing to fight next, though many are sceptical about Tank’s sincerity when it comes to working with Hearn.

On Wednesday, Hearn said in an interview on Matchroom Boxing’s YouTube channel: “Lots of talks with Gervonta Davis.

“Firstly, those two are going back and forth, and I’ve spoken to Gervonta personally.

“He’ll be receiving an offer from us today for that fight. I think it’s a huge fight.

“Could happen in the UK, but we’re looking in America for that.

“You’ve got two fiery characters, Gervonta’s an outstanding fighter.

“He’s a super-featherweight really coming up to lightweight and boxing at super-lightweight, but he’s never boxed at welterweight.

“It’s a really tough fight for Conor Benn, Gervonta’s a pound-for-pound great, but I like the size advantage in that fight.

“It will be the first time in a couple of fights that he’ll be fighting someone smaller than him, but he can really crack and he’s an outstanding fighter.

“So it’s a big ask for Conor, but this is what he wants, he wants those kind of tests.

“I think Gervonta Davis vs Conor Benn is a fight that can really light up America and the UK.

“So he will be getting our offer today. We wanna try and make the fight.”

Following Devin Haney‘s triumph over Regis Prograis, tensions have escalated in the rivalry between Haney and Gervonta Davis. Fans, eager for a showdown, have fervently expressed their desire to witness a clash between Haney and Gervonta Davis. Fueling the anticipation, an intense social media exchange between the two pugilists unfolded earlier in 2024, seemingly sealing an agreement for a future bout. But the promising match-up never materialized.

The eagerly awaited showdown faced a twist when Devin Haney disclosed that Davis hadn’t demonstrated significant interest in facing him. Now, former welterweight champion Shawn Porter has weighed in on the matter, expressing reservations about Davis taking on Haney. Porter believes that Davis has more appealing options available and will probably consider an alternative path than facing Haney.

Shawn Porter throws Gervonta Davis’ words back at him

In a conversation with FightHype, Shawn Porter was asked about his opinions on the fallout of the fight between ‘The Dream’ and ‘Tank’. Well, Porter had a different outlook towards this, as he believed that this fight wasn’t going to happen anytime soon. He even divulged a better fight that’s already lined up for Gervonta Davis rather than taking up the bout against Haney.

Gervonta Davis

Porter said, “Yeah, I mean, literally I’m throwing your words in your face. After the Mario Barrios fight, you said, ‘I’m not going back to 140’. That cuts out every big fight at 140 until he’s ready to move up. If he ain’t said he’s ready to move up, you know what I mean.” Porter, here, is referring to Davis’ comments after defeating Mario “El Azteca” Barrios in June 2021. Davis had said after the fight that he was comfortable at lightweight and would not go beyond the super lightweight division in future fights. With Haney already at Super lightweight and even planning a move up to welterweight in the future, a matchup between the two is highly improbable, according to ‘ Showtime’ Porter.

However, Porter thinks there is another more interesting fight that Davis must consider at lightweight itself. “I still think this, Shakur Stevenson– Tank Davis fight is the best fight to be made in boxing right now, stylistically, ticket sales, the whole nine,” claimed Porter. According to him, Stevenson can put up a better fight stylistically, and this fight would be the best one to be made for now.

Devin Haney is also not one to wait around. Bill Haney, Devin’s father, has already shown an interest in his son fighting other opponents. As of last week, another fighter might’ve just opened up.

Devin Haney might face Conor Benn next

Despite his impressive 23-0 record and a recent 12-round catchweight decision win against Peter Dobson in Las Vegas, Conor Benn is already receiving calls from potential future challengers. One among them is the WBC super-lightweight champion, Devin Haney.

Bill Haney, actively engaged in the trash-talking, while the British fighter showed no intention of backing off from the bout. Conor Benn explicitly stated, “He’s just a p***y. Who has he knocked out in his last seven fights? Yeah, he’s a flake. Sure, he’s got a good boxing IQ. He’s fast, but he’s boring. Even when I go 12 rounds, people want to watch my 12 rounds. People still say, ‘Wow, he was tough.’”

“No one ever says that about a Haney fight. He’s a good fighter, but besides that, probably in the 147-pound class, I could probably do that [fight],” emphasized the Destroyer. Currently, Haney has not officially announced his next fight, leaving numerous opportunities and potential opponents open for discussion.

Manny Pacquiao, boxing’s legend, teases a return. At 45, he eyes a comeback with targets at Conor McGregor and Gervonta Davis. Pacquiao’s career, marked by victories across eight divisions, ended in 2021. Yet, whispers of his return stir the boxing world.

Imagine, the Filipino icon stepping back into the ring against McGregor in a crossover spectacle, or Davis in a clash with boxing’s current titan. The idea seems almost odd. But why return now, against such formidable foes? The notion alone sparks intrigue. Can Pacquiao defy time and expectations?

WBA lightweight Gervonta Davis will receive a formal offer to fight WBA continental champion Conor Benn today, according to the Brit’s promoter Eddie Hearn.

Hearn spoke to his promotion’s company, Matchroom Boxingin an interview on YouTube and revealed that Davis will receive an offer on behalf of his client, Benn.

Hearn lauded Davis as a fighter and made mention of a potential step up from featherweight to match up against Benn at super lightweight or welterweight:

Hearn stated that the fight could be a huge event in the United States and the United Kingdom, with a potential venue in either country.:

Teofimo Lopez doesn’t hold back, especially not on rehydration clauses. “Real fighters and b**ch fighters,” he declares. But why? His comments slice through the boxing world’s decorum. They target Abdul Wahid, aka Gervonta Davis. Remember Ryan Garcia’s defeat?

A rehydration clause shadowed Garcia’s loss to Davis. This detail, often overlooked, carries weight. Lopez fought Taylor, outweighed, yet unbothered. Why does he dismiss what broke Garcia? Here’s something odd: Lopez sees intimidation where others see strategy.

Skill over strategy

In a revealing segment with Cigar Talk before his upcoming fight against Jamaine Ortiz on Feb 8th, Teofimo Lopez laid bare his disdain for sly tactics inserted into contracts like rehydration clauses, directly calling out Abdul Wahid. Lopez’s victory over Josh Taylor, where he faced a significant weight disadvantage, serves as a testament to his belief that true talent overshadows any physical edge. “You know how much freaking Josh Taylor weighed when I fought him? Over 165!” Lopez exclaimed, underscoring the disparity. The interviewer’s surprise, captured in a simple “Damn,” echoed the sentiments of many.

Gervonta Davis

Lopez continued, unfazed by the challenges he faced. “You know how tall that guy is, a giant. I can see why he beat so many guys; check the track records.” The conversation swiftly turned to the topic of rehydration clauses, a contentious issue within the boxing community. “When you’re the best, you don’t care about any of that. I don’t care about any of that,” Lopez stated, his words brimming with confidence.

Criticism followed, aimed directly at Abdul Wahid’s decision to impose a rehydration clause on Ryan Garcia. The clause was strategically inserted at the last minute before the Davis-Garcia fight in April, last year. “No, that just lets me know they’re intimidated. It’s intimidation, It’s a psych on their own mind,” Lopez argued. When the interviewer brought up Davis’ example with Ryan, Lopez had an answer ready. “What with that stuff, with the rehydration… Nah, son, you got real fighters and then you got b**ch fighters, you know what I’m saying. It just comes to that point,” Lopez boldly claimed, drawing a line in the sand that separates fighters by ethos rather than just skill.

His victory over Josh Taylor wasn’t just a win in the ring; it was proof of his philosophy. Lopez stands as a beacon for what he believes boxing should be—unfettered by weight limits post-weigh-in, where the best fighter wins, period. In another interview, he talked about the softest fighter in his division.

Teofimo Lopez dismisses Matias’ challenge

Teofimo Lopez has sparked controversy with his recent remarks on Subriel Matias, the IBF Super-lightweight titleholder. In a bold assertion on The Porter Way Podcast, Lopez stated, “No one knew about him until he started calling me out,” minimizing Matias’s reputation in the boxing world.

Further stoking the flames, Lopez made a contentious claim about Puerto Rican fighters, saying, “He could be an IBF world champion. But, he’s the most softest fighter in the division… Puerto Ricans are easy to beat.” These comments have not only set the stage for a highly anticipated showdown but have also ignited a debate on national pride and fighter skill levels in the sport.

Could one of boxing’s most feared names be making a trip to the UK?

Gervonta Davis has the boxing world at his feet.

His knockout win over Ryan Garcia last year cemented the Baltimore native as one of the sport’s biggest stars and is now receiving call-outs from numerous fighters.

One of those is British welterweight Conor Benn who last fought this past weekend when he beat Peter Dobson in Las Vegas.

Gervonta Davis

Following the fight, Benn took to social media site Xto express his interest in facing the hard-hitting Davis.

“Offer on its way Gervumpa Lumpa. @Gervontaa Let’s go,” Benn wrote on X.

This prompted a response from Davis who teased that a deal could be in the works for a fight between two.

“Relax, let me and your boss work. We got it,” Davis replied.

If a fight between Davis and Benn is made, it will be just the second time Davis has faced British opposition after stopping Liam Walsh at London’s Copper Box Arena in 2017.

Matchroom Promoter, Eddie Hearn, has offered more information regarding a potential scrap between Gervonta Davis and British welterweight Conor Benn.

Benn bounced back from an eighteen-month lay-off with a win over Rodolfo Orozco in September, but fans were left disappointed that he was unable to stop the Mexican. This past weekend, Benn went the distance with Peter Dobson, another opponent he was expected to stop.

This sparked criticism from ‘Tank’ Davis and opened the door for a potential clash between the duo, which Hearn has delved into during an interview with Matchroom Boxing.

Davis has also been linked to a variety of clashes at super-lightweight.

Gervonta Davis is always someone who seems to find himself in fantasy matchup discussions.

Gervonta Davis vs. Conor Benn is the latest hypothetical bout that several sweet science enthusiasts are talking about on social media.

Benn has fought north of 150 pounds in his past two contests while Davis has never fought higher than 140 pounds as a pro. ‘The Destroyer’ is 23-0 as a pro as Benn has 14 stoppage wins as well as an ever-growing star power globally.

Conversely, Davis is someone many see as the biggest star in modern boxing. So this hypothetical matchup makes a degree of sense on multiple levels. But the differing weight categories present a possible hurdle in a fight that is not officially booked.
Several X users flocked to the comments section to have their say with a divided sentiment on who could win this cross-divisional fight.
