EDDIE HEARN has hinted he’s sent an offer to Gervonta Davis over a potential clash with Conor Benn.

Brit welterweight Benn was on the receiving end of a shock callout from the WBA (regular) lightweight champion after his points win over Peter Dobson in Las Vegas last weekend.

A fiery back-and-forth ensued on social media, in which both men traded stinging verbal jabs.

Keen to silence the Baltimore bruiser once and for all, Benn tweeted to his promoter: “@EddieHearn [slide] in before the little fella gets mad.”

Along with a handshake emoji, Matchroom Boxing chief Hearn replied: “Done.”

It didn’t take long for Benn to respond with another dig at Davis, who he likened to an Oompa Lumpa from Charlie and The Chocolate Factory.

He said: “Let’s just wait [for] Gervunpa Lumpa to screengrab the conversation.”

Davis was quick to clap back at Benn, writing with winking face and clock emojis: “No need, we are all on the same page.”

Benn, 27, responded by saying: ‘Don’t be all talk either let’s make sure this happens next.

“Me and you centre of the ring and we will see who’s left standing.”

Benn’s name is on the hit list of a lot of several fighters, a fact which hasn’t gone unnoticed by Hearn.

He said: “Is there anyone between 140 and 160lb who doesn’t want to fight Conor Benn?

“Whole World calling his name.. big fight next!”

Although his sights are seemingly set on Davis, Benn will happily fight whoever Hearn puts in front of him.

He said: “I’ll fight anyone, I’ll have whoever Eddie [Hearn] puts in front of me, no problem.

“I was in cruise control, it was alright. It was good work. I always gun for the first round.

“I don’t miss when I shoot. I landed the shots and he was still standing.

“You can always do better. I will go back and I will assess.

“Overall, this is more for me getting back to where I was mentally.”

Like many boxing fans, Roy Jones Jr would love to see Devin Haney take on Gervonta Davis and now he has mapped out a way he thinks it could be made.

Both of these young stars are unbeaten. Haney has become an undisputed world champion at lightweight and he is currently the WBC super-lightweight title holder, while Davis is also a multi-weight champion who currently holds the WBA world lightweight title.

Speaking to FightHype, Jones explained how the fight could be made and it involved going to Saudi Arabia in search of the big money.

When asked to call the fight he couldn’t and said it was a 50-50.

As great as this fight is, there is still a chance that Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney get their on-off fight over the line with new negotiations announced recently.

For the first time in recent years, fans are unenthused with the direction of Gervonta Davis’ next fight.

After improving to 23-0 with a main event win over Peter Dobson on Feb. 3, Conor Benn got the attention of ‘Tank’ and called out the champion on social media. In return, Davis replied to the rising star, telling Benn he wishes to work out a deal for a future fight.

Fans, however, showed little interest in the potential matchup, with bigger opportunities seemingly within reach for Davis. After knocking out Ryan Garcia in April 2023, many were excited about the potential for Davis to face another big-name fighter, with the likes of Shakur Stevenson, Devin Haney, Teofimo Lopez, and Vasiliy Lomachenko all available.

Expressing his displeasement, one fan claimed Davis was ‘too good’ to face Benn, whom many fans are still unsure of his potential. He said:

Gervonta Davis wants to get back into the ring as soon as possible and that wish could soon be granted. Tank and Conor Benn started trading words on social media after the Englishman defeated Peter Dobson via unanimous decision on Saturday at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.

Davis has been inactive since last April, when he defeated rising star Ryan Garcia by TKO in the seventh round. After that, he has had quite a few legal issues that haven’t allowed him to stay active and keep fighting.

The Baltimore native wants to take on Benn, and The Destroyer says he’s up for the challenge if the fight can be made in the upcoming months. Both fighters are young and undefeated and if they sit to negotiate and both sides agree on terms and conditions, the bout could take place in April.

The Davis-Benn ‘fight’ on social media

Davis initiated the ‘war of words’ after Benn mentioned on X the fighters he would be interested in facing after beating Dobson. Cris Eubank Jr, Errol Spence Jr., Kell Brook, Devin Haney, and Mario Barrios were the names he referred to, something that Davis didn’t seem to like.

Gervonta Davis

No, funny, how you looked last night. Give me three weeks and a weekend in Turks, and your s** is grass. You hear me!”, Tank said in response.

“Oh, here he is, the woman beating munchkin from OZ! Let’s do it next?”, Benn replied.

From then on both men exchanged posts daring the other one to accept the challenge and try to make the fight happen.

Gervonta’s message on X wasn’t a casual thing. The undefeated boxer is looking to return to the ring soon, and April seems to be the date he wants to step into the ring again.

A Davis vs Benn fight would be an exciting one, as the American has lots of power in his hands and great boxing IQ, while Benn’s aggressivity would even make their potential clash a very tasty one.

Gervonta Davis has very much dismissed fighting Conor Benn as an easy night’s work.

Benn fought this past weekend out in Las Vegas as he works to try and get back into contention for some of the biggest fights in his division. He beat Pete Dobson over 12 rounds – the first time he has fought the full championship distance – but failed to knock the American down or out.

Gervonta Davis

That led some fighters to critique Benn, namely Errol Spence Jr, Devin Haney and Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis. Davis took to X to respond to Benn’s hit list of opponents, and threw his own hat in the ring.

The knockout artist from Baltimore then posted a screenshot of a message from Eddie Hearn, hinting that the fight is now in very early talks. He was recently reported to be looking to fight in the UK next.

Davis was recently named the sole WBA Lightweight World Champion following Devin Haney’s move up to 140lbs. The weight remains a big issue in any talks with Benn, who fought at a 150lbs catchweight on Saturday. Davis has previously fought once at 140 and no higher.

Next for Benn is an appeal hearing brought on by the British Boxing Board of Control as he tries to get his British license back following a suspension for failed tests back in October 2023.

It’s nearly ten months since the boxing community saw Abdul Wahid (formerly Gervonta Davis). Scores of fans eagerly await the arrival of their icon. Match-up talks have been aplenty; however, nothing concrete has come out so far. Now, a new buzz seems to be grabbing attention. With the lightweight champion revealing tidbits, it is sure to add gravity to the prevailing rumors.

After defeating Ryan Garcia, Abdul Wahid, then Gervonta Davis, found his name against Terence Crawford. While the discussions were enticing, they naturally washed up due to understandable differences in weight. Then there is the obvious choice of Devin Haney. Their fight is a sure-shot history-maker, but with the latter moving up a division, its fate hangs in the balance. So what’s next for ‘Tank’? Interestingly, a section of talks suggests he has been surveying across the pond for a possible fight. So is that the reason he teased a verbal banter with Conor Benn? Apparently, he even seems to have received feelers from ‘The Destroyer’s end. The Baltimorean’s next move? Share it through Instagram Story!

Abdul Wahid (formerly Gervonta Davis) Whistles Out: For Your Eyes Only

Early today, the WBA lightweight champion first countered Benn, who dished out a “hit list.” It had the names of boxers he would want to fight next. The American champion said, “No, funny, the way you looked last night. Give me 3 weeks & a weekend in Turks, and yo a*s is grass. You hear me!

Gervonta Davis

Soon, he received a reply. “Oh, here he is the woman beating munchkin from Oz! Let’s do it next ??” Conor Benn asked. ‘Tank’ replied in the affirmative, asking where he preferred receiving his first career loss. “Sure, why not..where would you like ya a*s whooping at bruv?

It was enough for ‘The Destroyer’ to tag his promoter, Eddie Hearn. On an interesting note, he told the Matchroom honcho that the Baltimorean would invariably save the screen shot of the direct message that Hearn would send. So prescient!! ‘Tank’ confirmed that he’d be waiting for the message.

Eddie Hearn confirmed the moment he completed the task. But Conor Benn advised them to wait further until ‘Tank’ takes a screen shot of their conversation. However, the lightweight champion subsequently shot back, “No need. We all on the same page..

Through his Instagram story, however, Abdul Wahid (formerly Gervonta Davis) shared a screen shot of the message he received from Hearn. The Matchroom boss asks, “You interested in this fight with Conor?” In response, after a ‘thumbs-up’, the lightweight champion says, “What we doing, Eddie?

Obviously, talks will take over, screeching through different angles in the days and weeks to come. A fight with another highly volatile fighter like Conor Benn sounds like a very tempting proposition. However, it would be ill-advisable to form any opinion at this stage until something actual in the line-up comes up. Finally, let’s not forget that Benn is a welterweight boxer, so the divisional difference needs to be sorted out first.

Conor Benn and Gervonta Davis have agreed to fight each other next after exchanging verbal blows on social media.

Davis took to social media to mock Benn – who earned a hard-fought unanimous decision victory over little-known American Peter Dobson in Las Vegas on Saturday.

Davis criticised Benn’s performance even though The Destroyer dominated the scorecards 119-109, 118-110, 118-110 during his second fight back.

Benn – who was fighting Stateside for the second time since he failed two drugs tests in the lead up to his scheduled fight with Chris Eubank Jr – snapped back.

The 27-year-old told Davis to make it official instead of trash talking on social media and asked Hearn to help facilitate a deal between them.

Davis took aim at the Destroyer after the 27-year-old took to social media to announce who he would like to share the ring with next.

Gervonta Davis

After his fight with Peter Dobson, Benn took to X to say: ‘Haney, Eubank Jr (not Harry), Spence Brook, Barrios. Any of the above next Eddie Hearn.

Davis decided to mock Benn, replying to his Tweet saying: ‘No funny, the way you looked last night .Give me 3 weeks & a weekend in Turks and yo a** is grass. You hear me!’.

Benn didn’t take too kindly to Davis’ comments and responded by saying: ‘Oh here he is the woman beating munchkin from Oz! Let’s do it next then?’.

Davis was quick to retaliate, saying the following to Benn: ‘Sure why not.. where would you like ya a** whooping at bruv?’.

To which Benn said: ‘Don’t be all talk either you little shrimp! Eddie Hearn, drop the munchkin a DM and get this fight made NEXT. I’m sure he’ll screenshot the conversation anyway so we will see who’s full of shit. See you soon.’

Davis welcomed Benn’s response and Tweeted: ‘I’ll be waiting Eddie Hearn’.

Benn finished off the exchange by writing: ‘Like I said I’m small but this little shit can’t even get on a rollercoaster at Disneyland. Me and you next. I’ll meet you in the centre of the ring and we will see who’s left standing because I’ll knock your head off and send it back to oz. #munchkin’.

However, Davis grew impatient waiting for Hearn’s message and returned to the social media platform to write: ‘Conor Benn, I’m still waiting’.

The Destroyer replied to Davis saying: ‘It’s coming don’t worry. Eddie Hearn slide in before the little fella gets mad and chins his Mrs’.

Promoter Eddie Hearn was quick to respond to the Matchroom boxer, Tweeting: ‘Done’ with a handshake emoji.

Benn replied to Hearn saying: ‘Let’s just wait Gervunpa lumpa to screen grab the conversation’ with a rat emoji.

Davis snapped back by saying: ‘No need, we are all on the same page’ with two emojis including a winking face and a clock.

Benn replied saying: ‘Don’t be all talk either let’s make sure this happens next. Me and you centre of the ring and we will see who’s left standing.’

Hearn couldn’t help by laugh at the situation, taking to X to write: ‘Is there anyone between 140 and 160lb who doesn’t want to fight Conor Benn. Whole World calling his name.. big fight next!’.

Benn agrees with Hearn and claims he is the most wanted fighter in Britain despite his absence from the ring. He told Boxing Social ahead of his fight with Dobson: I’m a promoter’s dream. Now what more do you want me to do?

‘I’m the most wanted man in Britain, the most wanted man in the welterweight division. From [Devin] Haney, from [Kell] Brook, from Eubank, from Gervonta [Davis], from [Josh] Taylor, from [Josh] Kelly.

‘It’s like what more do you want me to do? Even I think [Adrien] Broner once said, then [Manny] Pacquiao. What do you want me to do?

‘I haven’t fought for a year and a half, and I’m still there. Still at the tops of people’s tongues, still at the forefront of people’s minds in these mega fights.

‘It’s frustrating, not because of Eubank, so I couldn’t care less about him. Just a big name, just anyone. Like any one of the name’s mentioned, let’s make it happen.

Not long ago, Conor Benn could not find a fight or an opponent. However, look at him now! The English fighter has two callouts after he defeated Peter Dobson via unanimous decision. One from Gervonta Davis and the other from Devin Haney! Meanwhile, by the looks of things, he is going after ‘Tank’ Davis, which came after an X (formerly Twitter) banter!

Even Benn’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, has confirmed that the fight is happening. The goal for Davis, aka Abdul Wahid, seems to be to make an easy tune-up fight after his long break from boxing. However, the bigger question is – will the fight be as easy as most people think? Here’s a deep dive into the analysis of both fighters to determine who the better pugilist is.

Gervonta Davis vs. Conor Benn: Title fights

After starting his career in February 2013, the current WBA lightweight champion had to wait 17 fights to get his first IBF title clash against Jose Pedraza. Going into the fight, Davis was the opposite of the crowd favorite, but Davis’ punching power prevailed as he took down the then-undefeated Pedraza in the seventh round. The Baltimore resident remains undefeated to this day and holds a pristine 29-0 record, seven of which came against undefeated boxers.

Gervonta Davis

Meanwhile, Conor Benn is also undefeated with fewer fights but still an impressive 23-0 record! However, the Londoner hasn’t fought in a title fight yet, and neither has he ever held any of the four major belts. However, Benn has held the WBA Continental (Europe) welterweight title and has defended it twice. So, from the perspective of titles held, Davis gets a point!

Physical Analysis

‘Tank’ Davis is a southpaw and stands at 5′ 5½″ height with 67½″ reach. Whereas, ‘The Destroyer’ Benn is 5′ 8″ tall orthodox fighter with 68.0″ reach. So, both height and reach advantage go to Benn. However, Davis has often used his shorter height to duck under punches and get inside his opponent’s defense, something Ryan Garcia learned the hard way!

However, given Benn’s physical advantage and Davis’ move up the weight division, things are more complicated than it may appear. Benn is an aggressive fighter, so Davis may take a more defensive approach as he did against Garcia. On top of that, Davis is a really good strategic fighter well versed in handling opponents of varied styles. Whereas Benn tends to rely on his power too often, giving the edge to Gervonta Davis overall.

Competition faced

The competence of a fighter is frequently gauged by the level of competition they have encountered throughout their career and how they came out victorious. For Gervonta Davis, the list is extraordinarily long! Besides the previously mentioned Pedraza, the Baltimore native fought L.éo Santa Cruz, a solid opponent from Mexico, and rendered him useless in the sixth round of the fight via knockout.

Moreover, Davis’ hardest challenge came in the form of Isaac Cruz, who put on a fantastic performance against Davis. However, Davis managed to tame ‘The Pitbull’ via unanimous decision. On the other hand, Benn’s list of formidable opponents includes Sebastian Formella. The fight went the distance, and Benn won via unanimous decision. Benn also took on Chris Algieri, beating him via fourth-round knockout.

Considering all the opponents from both sides, Davis has not only faced the more difficult fighters but has also defeated them in a superior fashion. It’s especially evident in their knockout ratio – Davis’ 93.1 KO ratio towers over Benn’s 60.87 KO ratio.

Gervonta Davis & Conor Benn: Technical skills

The technical skills boxers display in the ring can give an early indication of who will emerge victorious in a fight. There’s no doubt that Benn is a powerful puncher and likes to take the fight to his opponent and overwhelm them with pressure. However, Davis has his way of dealing with aggressive fighters. Davis is a defensive counterpuncher who takes a lot of shots in the early rounds.

However, he does this to asses his opponents! Davis likes to throw less volume of punches, often hiding behind his jabs. But he reserves the one heavy shot for the right moment that can demolish his opponents. This fighting style also got him the moniker of ‘Tank.’ What’s more, Davis’ hardest opponent by far was Isaac Cruz, and Davis was able to handle Cruz because of his fighting style. So, even in technical skills, Davis gets the point.

Gervonta “Tank” Davis is seemingly going to fight Conor “The Destroyer” Benn next after calling him out on Sunday vis social media and getting boxing promoter Eddie Hearn to confirm that it is a “done” deal.

Davis, 29, took to X (Twitter) to call out Benn after his latest fight, a decision win over Peter Dobson. “The Destroyer” was quick to tell “Tank” to make it official instead of just talking trash.

“You doing too much talking now..stfu and get to work, see you soon,” Davis responded.

Devin Haney has been looking to book a fight against Davis, who now wants to move up in weight again to take on Benn.

Now fans are convinced that Davis is ducking Haney. Benn, meanwhile, just wants a big ticket fight for a solid payday.

Turki Alalshikh apparently has no desire to start begging the biggest American boxing star to come over to Saudi Arabia.

Alalshikh, the chairman of the General Entertainment Authority in the oil-producing country, recently said in an interview that he hopes Gervonta Davis, the power puncher from Baltimore, Maryland, will fight in Saudi Arabia sometime in 2024.

When an annoyed Davis (29-0, 27 KOs) got wind of Alalshikh’s comment, he fancied that he would need at least “two Ferraris” or something to that effect to even begin thinking about fighting in the Middle East.

“They made me mad, if they want me they gotta send me something to my front door, like 2 Ferraris or [something]!” Davis wrote on his X account.

Gervonta Davis

Alalshikh did not seem to take too kindly to those words. In response, Alalshikh offered a curt reply to Davis during a recent interview with The MMA Hour, making it clear there won’t be any added incentives anymore.

“I heard in the media Davis said, send to me two Ferraris to play in Saudi Arabia,” Alalshikh said. “I said to him we will send you two gloves if you want to play in Saudi Arabia, that’s it.”

Saudi Arabia has emerged in recent months as a significant boxing destination. Under Alalshikh, the country has hosted and announced a slew of high-profile fights, including the upcoming “crossover” bout between former champion Anthony Joshua and former UFC champion Francis Ngannou.

The undisputed heavyweight championship between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk was supposed to take place later this month, in Riyadh, but it was postponed last Friday after it was revealed that Fury suffered a gruesome cut during sparring.

Alalshikh has confirmed that the new date for that fight is May 18.

Alalshikh also confirmed that the undisputed light heavyweight championship between Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol will take place in June in Riyadh.

Davis, a longtime advisee of Al Haymon, the media-averse powerbroker and founder of Premier Boxing Champions, is expected to fight later this year on Amazon Prime pay-per-view
