Ryan Garcia has revealed new wrinkles into his first professional loss.

In April, Garcia suffered a seventh-round knockout defeat to Gervonta Davis.

“For the first time ever, in the back room, I said to myself ‘I’m losing this fight.’ I knew, right in the back room,” Garcia said this week on a podcast with Valuetainment founder Patrick Bet-David. “Nothing is going right. I am so weak. None of my punches are coming off sharp. I’m going to lose this fight. I just said [to myself] ‘how am I going to lose this fight?’ This is going to be crazy … The moment I caught him in the second round I tried to knock him out. I said, ‘I’m so weak I have to try and end it early’ … he recovers and then he drops me.”

Garcia suffered a knockdown in the second round due to a counter left hook delivered by Davis and his night was over after succumbing to a body shot in the seventh.

Garcia later revealed that he had a lingering rib injury heading his highly lucrative 136-pound catchweight clash.

“I’m going to get everything back in blood. I will never let anyone play me like that in negotiations ever again. That will never happen – ever,” said Garcia. “I’m going to get so big that Gervonta has to fight me [again]. And we’re going to do it on the right and fair terms … we’re going to do it right and I’m going to beat him … even though he did me dirty and they did all these tricks, I’m going to do everything fair. Not a rehydration clause. I’m not going to make him go crazy up in weight. We do it at 140 or 147, whatever he wants … you’re never going to play me again. Fool me once, shame on me. Fool me twice, shame on you. Fool me three times, f— the peace sign, I’m going to let the chopper rain on you. I’m coming back for everything. I’m coming back in blood … I’m not f—— around – f— around and find out.”

The 25-year-old Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs) rebounded from his loss to Davis by scoring an eighth-round knockout of Oscar Duarte in December.

The super lightweight contender Garcia is currently in negotiations for a fight against 140-pound WBC champion Devin Haney.

Garcia offered an update on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday.

“Things are moving forward, Devin Haney. Just hit Oscar [De La Hoya]. He will talk to Bill [Haney] later on today. We will get this done,” said Garcia.

And Gervonta Davis returns; or is it merely a rumor that is being pushed around? The boxing world continues to wait for the American boxer’s next fight announcement. While it seemed the fans’ wishes had come true, they were given a bitter pill to swallow. When the fans and magazines thought they had “the answer,” the champion shattered their dream in a scathing style.

‘Tank’ last fought Ryan Garcia in a record fight last April and bagged a spectacular KO win. Since then, he has stayed away from boxing and has made waves outside the ring. From changing his religion to purchasing his Baltimore neighborhood, the 29-year-old has done it all except throw a punch in the square circle. Therefore, when Ring Magazine reported his probable comeback this summer in the UK, the boxing world was elated. However, these rumors and speculations left a bad taste in Davis’ mouth as he slammed one such “boxing page.”

Gervonta Davis brutally shuns the rumor mill

Contrary to Ring Magazine’s claims, Boxing Kingdom had contested that Gervonta Davis’ next fight would be in the United States. Moreover, the page contended that Las Vegas would again welcome the lightweight champion. Rumors, speculations, and conjectures are not sitting well with Davis.

Davis then turned to his X handle and replied to Boxing Kingdom’s post. He wrote, “Lol, you think you have the answer but you don’t. You need to stay in ya place and be a boxing page..that’s what’s wrong w yall now..everybody wanna do someone else job when they not even good at their own!”

It seems the reports are off the mark, and the Baltimore native has yet to make a call on his next fight. The question looms large still. Is it the American soil that will host him next, or is he crossing to the other side of the Atlantic? But what about the lucrative Middle East that is steadily dislodging Las Vegas?

‘Tank’ headed to Saudi Arabia?

When recently asked about whether Davis would head to Riyadh someday, the lightweight boxer had an amusing response. Turki Alalshikh wants him to fight in Saudi Arabia this year. But Davis has a peculiar demand.

Davis said, “They made me mad, if they want me they gotta send me something to my front door..like 2 Ferraris or [something]!” While he has recently flirted with the idea of meeting Devin Haney in the ring, the fight is still far from finalized. The fans might have to wait for a while before they get concrete details about Davis’ return.

Gervonta Davis knows that there’s a target on his back. At this point, he’s grown accustomed to it. Fighting the 29-year-old lightweight champ is almost like hitting the lottery or participating in boxing’s version of the Super Bowl. Simply put, life-changing money and millions of eyeballs are placed upon you when Davis picks you as his next opponent.

Nothing is set in stone just yet, but Frank Martin has emerged as a possible opponent for his 2024 debut. No one on Davis’ team has hinted at him getting a shot, but with Devin Haney competing at 140 pounds and Shakur Stevenson on the supposed other side of the street, Martin is an intriguing option.

Typically, the newly turned 29-year-old strolls his way to the ring on multiple occasions a year. In 2023, however, he was afforded that opportunity just once. Still, he made the most of it, scoring a close but clear win over Artem Harutyunyan in mid-July.

It’s rare that all four of the sanctioning bodies come to an agreement but they’ve all grown to respect what Martin brings to the table. With the WBC and WBO ranking him in their top six, coupled with the IBF and WBA having him placed number 10 and number two respectively, a world title shot is ostensibly just a few fights away.

On countless occasions, the Detroit native has pontificated over his desire to share the ring with Davis. There’s also a bit of a backstory. In years past, the two have attempted to take each other’s heads off in heated sparring sessions.

Should Martin get the call, considering his pedigree, he could give Davis all he could handle. But, for those who believe he can do what 29 others haven’t, Leonard Ellerbe, CEO of Mayweather Promotions, is convinced that you’ve lost your mind.

“Frank Martin can’t beat Tank Davis,” Ellerbe told Sean Zittel of FightHype.com. “None of those guys can beat Tank Davis. Frank’s a good ass fighter. He can’t beat Tank though.”

Ellerbe, by and large, has heard it all before. He’s listened to previous lightweight contenders, including Ryan Garcia, bombastically bloviate over what they’ll do to Davis, only to come up incredibly short in the ring.

Currently, Martin’s name continues to pick up traction. Ellerbe though, wouldn’t confirm nor deny whether or not he’s the frontrunner. For those who are waiting patiently for something to be announced, Ellerbe made it known that when the time comes, you’ll hear it directly from the horse’s mouth.

“Tank will decide who he’s fighting and when he decides that, he’ll make an announcement. Tank is the boss. He’ll be fighting soon.”

Manny Pacquiao is set to return from retirement at the age of 45.

That’s according to Sean Gibbons, who is the president of Pacquiao’s promotional company MP Promotions.

The legendary eight-weight boxing world champion quit the sport in 2021 with a record of 62-8-2 following his loss to Yordenis Ugas.

He has since climbed back into the ring for exhibition bouts and is set to do so again on April 20 in Thailand.

After that though, Pacquiao intends to return for real.

“Technically he’s out of retirement,” Gibbons told BoxingScene.

“He would love to fight Gervonta Davis, Ryan Garcia.

“He’s got about a year left. He just wants to fight.

“Manny feels that he’s in tremendous shape. He’s training for this exhibition but hopefully that will lead to something bigger and better.”

Pacquiao ran for president in his home country of the Philippines when he retired but was not elected, hence his desire to fight again

Gibbons affirmed: “I do [expect him to fight in professional boxing again].

“One of the fights that people talked about for a long time was Manny Pacquiao vs Conor McGregor.

“That’s something that will be sensational in Saudi Arabia, let’s go. It will be a good place to do it. It’s really simple.

“His Excellency Turki Alalshikh, [chairman of Saudi’s General Entertainment Authority], loves big events, and he’s putting on the best events.

“It’s a very intriguing and fun fight bringing two of the biggest names together in combat sports.”

Devin Haney finally managed to turn all the doubts surrounding his ability as a former undisputed champion with his decisive victory over Regis Prograis. Since then he has been on the radar of a lot of boxers including Ryan Garcia and Gervonta Davis. So how come he still hasn’t had a fight made even now?

Interestingly last year, Haney and Davis appeared to be at each other’s throats. Both sides were having a back-and-forth and for a while, it looked like they would end up fighting one another. However, that didn’t happen and both Davis and Haney are without any opponent right now. But the rivalry between the two has reignited as Haney took the time to set the record straight about the reason for the fight falling apart.

Devin Haney blasts back at team ‘Davis’

Recently Kenny Ellis and Coach Calvin Ford appeared on The Rize Podcast. During the interview, they discussed how Haney apparently overestimated himself and asked for a bigger piece of the pie. Ellis argued, “You can’t have the tickets selling at one price and then drop them below half price the closest you get to the fight.”

Ellis’s sentiments were echoed by Calvin Ford, Tank’s trainer, who questioned the financial aspect of Haney’s recent fight against Prograis. Ford mentioned, “I don’t know the numbers when they sit down and look at his [Haney] last fight, and asked the questions that we asked at the table.”

Kelvin Ford pointed out, “Devin comes in demanding 50/50, 60/40, that’s what stops the fight.. we see what you’re really worth”. As the video surfaced on social media the enthusiast wrote, “This is why Haney ran to Saudi, it’s all his fault he outpricing.” Haney shared his dissatisfaction towards Team Davis. He wrote, “I said I would take the same deal as Ryan.. yall over there scared to death!”. Haney appears dissatisfied over the remarks. In the meantime, it appears his fight against Garcia is once again picking up pace.

IBO champion on Ryan Garcia’s indecisiveness

The recent flip-flopping in Ryan Garcia’s decision to face Devin Haney has raised eyebrows in the boxing world. The IBO lightweight champion, George Kambosas Jr., expressed his view on the situation, emphasizing Garcia’s apparent confusion.

After Haney’s impressive victory over Prograis in December, Garcia initially expressed interest in a showdown. However, he later shifted focus to Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero, only to backtrack and reopen discussions with Haney’s team.

Kambosas Jr., who faced Haney in 2022, acknowledged the potential excitement of a Garcia-Haney clash but couldn’t help but comment on Garcia’s wavering decisions. In his words, “Ryan is a good kid; I like Ryan. I’ve got a lot of respect for Ryan, I feel that he’s just a little bit confused. That’s not taking a shot at him… Sometimes he gets confused with things and doesn’t know what way to go.”

The uncertainty surrounding Garcia’s choice adds a layer of unpredictability to the boxing landscape. As fans eagerly anticipate a resolution, the sport remains as dynamic and unpredictable as ever.

Devin Haney‘s pursuit of a showdown with Gervonta Davis took an interesting turn in December 2023. Haney, boasting an undefeated record, expressed his willingness to accept a deal similar to the one Ryan Garcia secured for his fight against Davis in April. However, there’s a caveat – if Haney remains steadfast on these terms, he might inadvertently price himself out of the matchup.

Moreover, potential weight stipulations, particularly considering Haney’s 165 lb status, could further complicate negotiations. The prospect of a catchweight is on the table, but Haney resisted this idea. Now almost a couple of months later, Mayweather Promotions CEO has responded to the bizarre claim of Devin Haney.

Leonard Ellerbe slams the prospect of the Devin Haney-Gervonta Davis fight

The Mayweather Promotions CEO, Leonard Ellerbe, apparently had no idea about the claims made by Devin Haney in the past. He seemed shocked after learning about it during his interview with FightHype. Moreover, Ellerbe talked about how this fight wouldn’t be happening soon, mainly because of the weight class difference.

Ellerbe said, ” Stop it. First off they’re in two different weight classes and I don’t even want to go on and on about that. It’s like just cut the bulls**t, they’re in two different weight classes. Now, I’m not saying it’s not a good fight for people who- whatever you want to think it is. But at the end of the day, if Tank had to, Tank could make 30, okay? Tank could make 30 if he had to. He’s comfortable at 35, okay.” Furthermore, he made it clear that Davis is not going to be dictated on what he should do. Then he stated, “Tank’s going to fight where he’s comfortable at and do what he wants to do.

Gervonta Davis

Moreover, he stated that the fight could’ve happened at the time when they were in the same weight class. However, at that time, Haney was signed with Top Rank, and as per Ellerbe, Bob Arum would never risk a fight where he’s not completely sure about the results turning in the favor of his pugilist. Moreover, Haney’s back-and-forth with Ryan Garcia has started yet agian, and it seems he’d be going with him as the next opponent, rather than waiting for ‘Tank’.

Haney might finally fight Ryan Garcia

The long-standing rivalry between Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney appears to have been rekindled, as Garcia revealed in an interview with FightHype that discussions for a potential fight with Haney have resumed. This development comes after Garcia initially shifted focus to challenge WBA super lightweight champion Rolly Romero.

He explained recently that he did this after getting influenced by Floyd Mayweather. Garcia revealed, “I’m not gonna lie, Floyd’s pretty influential,” Garcia said. “He’s like, ‘Why would you do that? Why don’t you fight Rolly for the belt and then fight Haney?’ I said, ‘That makes sense, but I told the people already I’m gonna fight Devin.’ He said, ‘Some things change.’ I’m paraphrasing but I made the quick decision, ‘Alright Floyd, that makes sense.’

Boxing has faced challenges with the rise of UFC and bare-knuckle promotions, impacting its overall popularity. Despite this, major boxing matches, particularly like Ryan Garcia vs. Gervonta Davis in 2023, draw significant attention. The bout, featuring two prominent and skilled fighters in their prime, lived up to expectations, generating impressive PPV sales. Meanwhile, talking about it in a recent interview with Valuetainment, Garcia recently stated he chose to fight to save the sinking boat of boxing and reigniting the interest.

In a conversation with Patrick Bet-David, Garcia discussed his fight against Davis and revealed that he chose boxing because he observed that gimmicky fights were garnering more attention than genuine boxing matches. Recognizing Garcia and Davis as two current prominent stars, but went ahead with the fight, driven by a desire to rescue the integrity of boxing. In his words,

Indeed, matches like Paul vs. Danis were the most talked about throughout the year, surpassing events like Joshua vs. Wallin. Speaking about it, he labeled these matches as gimmicky and aimed to bring back attention to real boxing matches like this. However, he knew that he would lose.

Ryan Garcia Anticipated Defeat Against Gervonta Davis During The Fight

Gervonta Davis

In a recent interview, Ryan Garcia disclosed that he sensed his impending loss long before ‘Tank’ delivered the brutal body shot in the fight. He stated,

Despite the loss, it’s evident that Garcia surely wants revenge. However, before Davis’ rematch, he must secure notable victories and deliver impressive performances. And now Garcia rebounded with a knockout against Oscar Duarte and, under the negotiations of fighting against Devin Haney.

Ryan Garcia took part in a recent interview on the PBD Podcast, where he admitted to knowing that he would lose to Gervonta Davis ahead of their matchup last year. The pair crossed swords inside the squared circle of boxing last year, and the outcome was Garcia’s first professional loss.

‘KingRy’ was folded by a body shot, which rendered him unable to continue. Now, he has spoken candidly about the loss, revealing certain details that he felt contributed to an unfavorable situation against Davis. Specifically, he outlined the lack of physicality he felt backstage.

Garcia is referencing, in part, the rehydration clause included in the contract for his bout with Davis. The loss was somewhat damaging to his career, as it was not only his first professional defeat, but the manner in which he lost led to many in the boxing world questioning his toughness and mettle as a fighter.

Some even accused him of looking for a way out against ‘Tank.’ Regardless of what his detractors say about him, Garcia is determined to rack up enough wins to earn a rematch against Davis. Only this time, he promises to be wiser during the negotiating phase to avoid the inclusion of a rehydration clause.

Manny Pacquiao still has plenty of fight left in him.

The eight-division champion Pacquiao retired in 2021 shortly after losing a unanimous decision to Yordenis Ugas, and he’s since hit the exhibition trail like many other past-their-prime stars have in recent years.

The 45-year-old Filipino boxing icon will return for another exhibition boxing match on April 20 against muay thai fighter Buakaw Banchamek in Thailand.

Aside from the exhibition against Banchamek, the former eight-division champion Pacquiao has also teased an exhibition with rival Floyd Mayweather and even a run for the 2024 Olympics.

Sean Gibbons, who runs Manny Pacquiao’s promotional company and serves as an agent and advisor for Pacquiao, is equally open to the idea of Pacquiao returning for a professional fight.

“Technically he’s out of retirement,” Gibbons told BoxingScene.com in an interview. “He would love to fight Gervonta Davis, Ryan Garcia. He’s got about a year left. He just wants to fight. Manny feels that he’s in tremendous shape. He’s training for this exhibition but hopefully that will lead to something bigger and better. I do [see a pro return for Pacquiao]. One of the fights that people talked about for a long time was Manny Pacquiao versus Conor McGregor. That’s something that will be sensational in Saudi Arabia, let’s go. It will be a good place to do it. It’s really simple. His Excellency Turki Alalshikh, [the chairman of the General Entertainment Authority of Saudi Arabia], loves big events, and he’s putting on the best events. It’s a very intriguing and fun fight bringing two of the biggest names together in combat sports.”

Gervonta Davis

Pacquiao has been linked to a potential fight with both McGregor and Garcia on and off for the last four years.

In October, Pacquiao stated he’d be open to fighting Davis.

“Gervonta Davis is a good fighter. He’s a good fighter, yeah. If he comes up to 147, we can fight – 145, maybe. That’s not a problem for me. I am an experienced fighter,” said Pacquiao.

Devin Haney is preparing for his next fight, but he’s thinking of a potential mega-fight with Gervonta Davis. The undefeated boxer, who decided to go up in weight from 135 to 140 lbs, has a big challenge in the upcoming weeks, as he’s challenging Regis Prograis for his WBC light welterweight belt.

However, The Dream is confident he will get his hand raised and become a two-division world champion when both fighters meet on December 9. The San Francisco native admitted that his idea is to beat the very best at 140 and after that move up another category.

However, before that, Haney could share the ring with Davis, in what most boxing experts and fans believe would be a very interesting clash of styles and talents.

It will have to happen at 140. He wouldn’t care about the belts at 135. He would just want to end up making the money and fighting me,” Haney said to combat sports journalist Ariel Helwani.

Gervonta Davis

Prograis, Haney’s priority

However, Haney knows that his focus should be on his fellow countryman Prograis, as he holds a record of 29 wins and only one defeat by majority decision to Josh Taylor in 2019.

Haney was hugely criticized for his last performance at lightweight against Vasiliy Lomachenko last May. Many believed the Ukrainian fighter should have been the winner of that match, while others think a draw would have been the fairest outcome.

Against Prograis, Haney will hope to use his boxing IQ to get the better of his opponent, but will also have to deal with a new weight on fight night.

The 24-year-old boxer, who doesn’t possess a massive power in his hands, will face a dangerous power puncher in Prograis, although he stated that his rival didn’t impress him in his last fight against Danielito Zorrilla.

He didn’t look good. He fought a crafty, awkward type of opponent. I was surprised. I don’t know the guy he was fighting”, he said.

Will a fight against Davis happen if Haney emerges victorious in December? Although it would be the fight that most fans want to see, it’s unlikely that Davis will risk going up a category to face the slick Haney, at least immediately, unless he’s offered a huge amount of money he couldn’t reject.
