Super-lightweight contender, Ryan Garcia, has expressed his confidence in a rematch against Gervonta Davis, despite succumbing to his power in a seventh round defeat earlier this year.

‘King Ry’ was handed the first loss of his career when he was stopped to the body in the mega fight that garnered over one million pay-per-view buys, taking a knee after feeling the full effect of the shot from Davis.

Since then, he has announced he will move permanently to super-lightweight. He told Fight Hub TV that a rematch with ‘Tank’ is on his radar and that he could beat him ‘under different circumstances.

Garcia says the catchweight of 136lbs and rehydration clause that meant he couldn’t gain more than ten pounds between the weigh-in and fight night affected his performance.

Before the popular 25-year-old can consider future opponents, he must first get past Oscar Duarte a in a relatively tough match-up for his comeback on December 2, live on DAZN.

Should he win, he also mentioned both Teofimo Lopez and Devin Haney are fights he would like to make.

Gervonta Davis is among the most well-known boxers in the world. The multi-division power-puncher is an undefeated phenom, who is currently in possession of the WBA (Regular) lightweight title. He last faced Ryan Garcia, handing the 25-year-old his first-ever loss by way of seventh-round knockout.

Due to his fearsome reputation and crushing knockout power, Gervonta Davis has drawn comparisons to legendary heavyweight, Mike Tyson. However, in Davis’ opinion, the comparison doesn’t hold as much weight as most in the boxing community assume.

According to Davis, he is a more skilled boxer than Tyson. He regards himself as a well-rounded fighter, and characterizes ‘Iron Mike’ as a brawler. While he acknowledged that Tyson was indeed skillful, he simply feels he’s the superior technical boxer, according to a tweet from boxing reporter, Michael Benson:

Gervonta Davis

It isn’t the first time that Gervonta Davis has been compared to Mike Tyson. However, Davis is more closely associated to Floyd Mayweather Jr., another all-time great boxer.

However, instead of being known for his knockout power, Mayweather is often celebrated for his defensive wizardry and technical skills in the ring. Despite his crushing knockout power, Davis is a skilled defensive fighter and styles himself as more of a counterpuncher than Tyson.

Regardless of his statements on the comparisons he often gets with Tyson, Davis has always afforded the heavyweight legend a measure of respect.

Gervonta Davis fiercely dismissed the idea of Jake Paul beating him in a potential boxing match. Davis is the multi-division boxing champion and considered among the greatest boxing talents in the world today.

Meanwhile, YouTuber-turned-professional boxer Jake Paul has received a lot of praise lately for building legitimate boxing skills in spite of being a relative newcomer to the sport.

Recently, a fan post on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) suggested that Jake Paul would be a tough fight for Gervonta Davis and claimed that he could beat ‘Tank’ in a competitive match. The post read:

He has since deleted the post but talkSPORT journalist Michael Benson posted the screenshot on his ‘X’ account.

Gervonta Davis is now back in the gym.

The American boxing star has posted new footage showcasing his astounding hand speed on the pads and fans aren’t exactly sure whether the video has been sped up or not.

Davis has fought twice in 2023 – stopping Hector Luis Garcia in January and Ryan Garcia in April.

In June though, he was sent to jail and spent a total of 44 days behind bars.

Tank had initially avoided jail time over his November 2020 hit-and-run car crash which injured four people because he accepted a plea deal and pled guilty to four traffic offences.

However, not even a month after his sentencing, Davis was jailed after all as he violated the terms of his home detention order and was ordered to be incarcerated for the rest of his sentence.

He was released in July and has since been eyeing a ring return for either late 2023 or early 2024.

It has now been confirmed that he won’t fight again until the new year, but he is back in the gym regardless.

After posting his pad footage video on Tuesday, fans questioned: “Has this been sped up?”

One commented: “We know Tank got speed but the speed of his trainer is really impressive.”

Lightweight world champion Davin Haney says he is willing to fight Gervonta Davis but wants the fight to happen at a specific weight. Haney is set to move up a weight class and challenge super lightweight champion Regis Prograis on December 9, 2023, in San Francisco , California.

Devin Haney vs Gervonta Davis or Shakur Stevenson are two matchups that have caught the fans’ imagination. In a recent interview with MMA Fighting, Davin Haney was asked which fight has a better chance of happening down the line. He explained:

When asked about the preferred weight class for the bout, Haney said:

Davin Haney argued that Gervonta Davis would not have a problem in accepting the fight at 140 lbs and explained:

Following the official press conference announcing Devin Haney’s upcoming fight against Regis Prograis, Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn talks to reporters about his thoughts on Haney and how he would compare him to his contemporaries like Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis and Shakur Stevenson. Here’s some of what Hearn had to say below.

Hearn on who’s best between Tank, Haney, and Stevenson

“I’m a big fan of all of ‘em. I think Gervonta Davis is a beast, I think he’s very exciting. I think Shakur has tremendous fundamentals. I think if you’re looking at wins, then it’s definitely between Devin Haney and Tank. If you’re talking about ability, I mean they’re all unbelievably talented and you have to throw Shakur in that mix.

“But Shakur hasn’t beaten anyone yet of massive note. I know the win against Valdez was a big win at super feather. But at lightweight he hasn’t beaten anybody yet, and that’s not his fault. I do believe he’ll go on to be a great but right now if you look at the resumes…you have to say Devin but Tank has got a great resume as well.

“I don’t think it’s really a comparison. I think if Devin beats Prograis, I think then you’re talking about another level of moving up weight classes, beating the top at 140 or arguably the top guy at 140, and a guy that has power as well.

“I think if you look at Kambosos and you look at Lomachenko, neither guy has destructive power like Regis Prograis does. I think that’s what makes this fight really intriguing.”

Hearn on what he saw in Haney when he signed him to Matchroom

Devin Haney amd Gervonta Tank

“Just saw a bit of a superstar, really. I like the smile. He’s a very polite, respectful man. Bill’s raised him very well. I mean Bill has his ups and downs but you can’t question the job Bill’s done with Devin. I mean, it’s been unbelievable.

“And what I like about Bill as well, it’s not a total control thing. Like, he’s willing to bring people in, he’s willing to take advice. But what I saw in Devin in a guy who’s completely committed to his craft and as a promoter I like working with people like that because you know you’re going to get the most out of what you’ve got.

“So we’ll do the best we can do, you do the best you can do, and God will decide the rest. And with Devin it’s like once you’ve got a talent that you know is going to work hard, I just felt like at the time he was a big acquisition for us because he was the kind of fighter that we needed.

“And it was really difficult when he had to make that decision to sign with Top Rank, because they froze us out completely. It’s a great learning curve, you know. Lou DiBella really had the keys to make that fight because he had Kambosos, he had the site deal, and he didn’t want to do it with us. That’s the reality. Devin was desperate to do it with us.

“When I started working with Devin we had a pact together that he would be my first undisputed champion in America…I will always remember he tried and tried and tried and tried to do the deal with us and DAZN, and in the end he found it difficult to tell me — and I knew what he had to do — and I said to him ‘I know you have to do it’ and he said to me ‘I’ll promise I’ll be back. I promise.’ But I said ‘you can’t turn this down.’ He would’ve had to turn down the opportunity to become undisputed to stay with me who couldn’t deliver him the undisputed fight.

“So when he went it was a bit of a kick in the cojones, but he promised me he’ll be back…and true to his word he’s back and I believe this relationship, win or lose, will continue.”

The year couldn’t have gone any better for Gervonta Davis. On the first Saturday of 2023, the 28-year-old wanted to kick off his campaign with a bang. He did just that when he elected to take on Hector Luis Garcia. It was a relatively close fight. That is until Davis (29-0, 27 KOs) began taking control in the second half.

The Baltimore native landed his money shot in the final few rounds, leaving Garcia wobbly. He then stumbled back to his corner before complaining to his coaching staff that he was unable to see, immediately leading to referee Albert Earl Brown stopping things from getting any worse.

Davis continued his Garcia tour by permanently shutting the mouth of Ryan Garcia. Although he shouted brazen threats and didn’t appear worried about what Davis brought to the table, he was forced to eat his words via seventh-round stoppage.

With Davis wiping out his competition in the first half of the year, he had plenty of time to make another appearance. However, a 2020 hit-and-run conviction, which ultimately led to Davis spending 44 days in jail, somewhat derailed him. Still, once his cell door was opened, fans were excited for what was next.

Would Shakur Stevenson get the call? How about Devin Haney? Frank Martin was another mouthwatering option. Even Isaac Cruz, although a healthy segment of fans weren’t particularly interested, a rematch between them was something they could stomach. Regardless of who was chosen, watching Davis saunter through a jam-packed arena before sending his opponent to the moon was always satisfying.

Not to be the bearer of bad news but don’t hold your breath in terms of a Davis return this year. While he was a bit cryptic, the pound-for-pound star revealed that his 2023 is officially over.

“I’m getting my personal life together,” said Davis on his social media account. “I’ll see y’all at the top of the year.”

Two lions can never live in a single forest. Given the proximity of their divisions, a challenge, or at least a pretense of challenge, between two of the biggest superstars of boxing is bound to occur at some point. The beef between Terence Crawford and Gervonta Davis has continued for some time. Opening a new chapter in their ‘Game of Thrones,’ or rather ‘Game of Gloves,’ the Welterweight champion, his protégé Shakur Stevenson, and a few friends took a broad swipe at Davis.

Ask any die-hard fan about Gervonta Davis, and the chances are they would repeat those immortal lines the Lightweight champion delivered after tearing apart Ryan Garcia. When asked whether he was the face of boxing, ‘Tank’ replied, “Abso-f***king-lutely!” While some might buy his argument for saying so, many would disagree. There are other strong contenders—Terence Crawford, who became the first man to become a two-division undisputed champion in July.

Bud’ and ‘Sugar’ play with a ‘Tank’

Gervonta Tank Davis

Terence Crawford shared a short clip through his Instagram story early today. He is not visible on camera. Nevertheless, it showed him joining a few buddies, which included the most recent entrant to the Lightweight division, Shakur Stevenson. So, teasing an interview with Gervonta Davis, Crawford asks a young boy, “Tank, Tank, what [do] you do to all?” The youngster replied, “I’ll beat all of them…

Then, exclaiming that he (Davis) has defeated almost everyone, Crawford turns to each friend present. He says, “You beat all of them…you ran all of them down…ran you down, ran you down… ran you down… ran you down, hey hey you lost, hey the champ, the champ.” Towards the end, Shakur Stevenson appears, shouting, “…he beat everybody‘”

Nevertheless, the match proves to be an exciting prospect with two dominant fighters set to go head-to-head.

Terence Crawford versus Gervonta Davis?

The genesis of their war of words goes back to sometime early in August. A few days after ‘Bud’ had defeated Errol Spence Jr., Gervonta Davis claimed in a podcast that he could wind up Crawford well within six rounds! In the meantime, the Welterweight champion expressed a keen interest in pursuing a potential line-up against either Canelo Alvarez or Jermell Charlo. To that end, he even seemed willing to frog leap divisions.

So, is there any scope for Gervonta Davis? In a podcast, the Nebraskan acknowledged what a potential fight with the Baltimorean means. Given the latter’s star value, a clash between the two is a sure top draw and payday. However, that’s not enough. Terence Crawford clarified the only way a bout between the two could happen. ‘Tank’ must climb to 147 pounds to meet the two-division undisputed champion.

Regis Prograis says he will not agree to a catchweight if Gervonta Davis shows interest in fighting him in the light welterweight division.

If Tank wants the fight with WBC champion Prograis (29-1, 24 KOs), it will need to be at 140. Tank wouldn’t just be asking for a catchweight. There would be the obligatory rehydration clause to go along with itin a double whammy.

It’s a bit early for Prograis to be talking about fighting guys like Gervonta, because Regis still needs to defend his WBC title against Devin Haney on December 9th. Fans & the oddsmakers have Haney (30-0, 15 KOs) as the favorite in that contest.

Even if Prograis does beat Haney, it’s doubtful that Tank Davis would move up to 140 to face him. It’s believed that the Baltimore native’s promoters at Mayweather Promotions & PBC carefully select his opponents, and they tend to go in the direction of weaker fighters or guys with obvious flaws in the chin department, like Ryan Garcia.

Prograis’ best bet for a big money fight if he successfully defends against Haney would be Teofimo Lopez, but even that match likely won’t happen. Top Rank will want Ryan Garcia or Haney for Teofimo, and it likely won’t matter if Prograis defeats Devin.

Gervonta Davis

Regis might be stuck with a lackluster opponent like Jack Catterall, Sandor Martin, or Richardson Hitchins. Those are good fighters, but they’re not popular.” From 135 to 147 is that glamour. There are so many big fights that could be made just around us,” said Regis Prograis to the media when asked if 140 is the best division.

“I think it’s going to be all big fights going on around these three weight divisions. No, no catchweight. 140 it is,” said Prograis when asked if he’d be open to fighting Gervonta Davis at a catchweight between 135 & 140.

It would be interesting to see if Prograis changes his mind about not being agreeable to a catchweight if Tank Davis shows interest in fighting him and he realizes how much money he can make from that fight. Money changes everything.

If Prograis can get $30 million like Ryan Garcia just got fighting Tank Davis, he’ll probably agree to a catchweight, even if it’s as low as 136.

“I told you. I want to be like the Hagler of my division. No, we’re not doing no catchweight. It’s going to be 140, and that’s it,” said Prograis.

“Of course,” said Prograis when asked if Tank Davis is the biggest fight for him. “You’re talking about the ‘Face of Boxing’ between him and Canelo. So, I can’t fight Canelo. So, him. It would probably be the biggest fight between him, Ryan, or Teo. That is the biggest fight.”

It’s too bad that PBC & Mayweather Promotions would never match Tank Davis against Prograis because that would be an interesting fight, and a lot better than watching the Baltimore native fight Isaac Cruz or Ryan Garcia again.

“He got his a** whipped by an old a** man,” said Prograis when asked about his thoughts on the Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero vs. Ismael Barroso last May. “He [Barraso] said he was 30? That man was 50-something. He was old as s**t, and Rolly got his a** whipped by an old man.”

Rolly lucked out when the referee Tony Weeks jumped in and stopped the Barroso fight in the ninth round because he was on his way to losing the fight.

“I wouldn’t want to fight Rolly, but he does have a belt, and that would be an easy a** belt to pick up,” said Prograis. “I want money, obviously, legacy, and stuff like that. If it happens, it happens. I think he’s s***ty. Rolly? I don’t think he’s that good. He has power, but as a fighter, I don’t think so. He fights like a martial artist or something like that.

“I don’t think he can keep the belt. He should have either an easy a** fight or cash-out, get a big fight. Maybe after I beat Devin, I can go fight him, and he can cash out, get a lot of money, and go do what he got to do,” said Prograis

Ryan Garcia told Gervonta Davis on social media that he wants a rematch with him. Tank (29-0, 27 KOs) stopped Ryan in the sixth round last April in what could be the year’s biggest fight. Ryan’s purse for the fight was $30 million, generating a massive $100 million. Understandably, the 25-year-old Ryan wants a second shot at Tank, but it’s likely the PBC-managed Baltimore native will agree. First, Ryan (23-1, 19 KOs) needs to win his tune-up fight on December 2nd against Oscar Duarte before he can begin talks with Tank for another massive fight. It’s a little early for Ryan Garcia to talk about a rematch with Tank Davis because he’s got a dangerous fight he still needs to win against Duarte, who will treat this fight like it’s his World Cup competition. Duarte isn’t a multi-millionaire Instagram star like Ryan, and he’s going to be going after him, trying to score a knockout with every shot. We’ve already seen that Ryan can’t take body shots well, and that’s something that Duarte does quite well.
Ryan’s promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, says the Davis-Garcia rematch is possible, but it would need to be at 140 this time. Hopefully, Tank and his team don’t attempt to gain an edge against Ryan again by insisting on a catchweight + rehydration clause as added insurance that they win.

Gervonta Davis vs Ryan Garcia

That was a weasel-like move on Tank Davis’ team to use weight stipulations to ensure their fighter won. “It’s possible at 140,” said Oscar De La Hoya to ESNEWS when asked about his thoughts on Ryan Garcia fighting a rematch with Gervonta Davis during Super Bowl weekend on February 10th. Ryan has other options besides a rematch with Tank, as De La Hoya is interested in matching him against WBO 140-lb champion Teofimo Lopez on February 10th. Also, he can face the winner of the Devin Haney vs. Regis Prograis contest for the WBC title. Getting either of those fights will be easy for Ryan because it’s a huge paycheck for the champion. It’s unclear which direction De La Hoya wants Ryan to go in. He’s learned that a rematch with Tank Davis is a guaranteed loss, so he might not be eager to go in that direction. The money would be better in a Tank fight, but it’s not a good deal if Ryan suffers another knockout loss.

Ryan would be the underdog no matter which direction he goes because his limited punch resistance would make him vulnerable to the power of Teofimo and Prograis
