It’s been one year since Olympic gymnast Simone Biles celebrated her marriage to NFL star Jonathan Owens with a ceremony in Cabo San Lucas – and the gold medal winner posted the best she could remember from the occasion.

Biles posted photos of the big day on her Instagram Story from the ceremony where the couple tied the knot for a second time after previously eloping at a Houston courthouse a week prior.

Among the many photos that Biles shared included a snap of her and her mother, Nellie Biles, as they celebrated during a pool party.

Simone wrote, ‘Momma Biles is probably telling me I need to eat before I black out. Which would have been good advice about 3 hours before this… bc I did indeed black out and miss the rest of the pool party.’

The rest of the gallery of images showed Biles with her friends and family – as well as her husband – before one final picture showed someone pouring alcohol into her mouth with the caption ‘and then I blacked out’.

The couple first met in 2020 through a dating app and Owens didn’t know who Biles was – something that the gymnast liked.

Biles admitted that she slid into his DMs because she found the player cute. Plus, they were both conveniently in the Houston area so they hung out in person a few weeks after exchanging texts.

Due to the pandemic, Biles’s Summer Olympics and Owens’s NFL training were put on hold, but it gave the couple more quality time to get to know each other.

They got engaged back in February of 2022 and officially tied the knot at that courthouse in April of 2023.

Three years ago, Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles, known as one of the world’s most exceptional gymnasts, bravely revealed her harrowing experience of s****l abuse by USA Gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar. As she puts it, Enough is enough”. Her emotional disclosure brought tears as she recounted the trauma she endured. Biles not only held the gymnastics organization accountable but also criticized federal law enforcement for neglecting to address the crimes, which left hundreds of young athletes vulnerable.

Since that distressing revelation, time has passed, and there have been significant developments. Recently, on April 23rd of this year, the Department of Justice made a noteworthy announcement. They disclosed that they would provide nearly $139 million in compensation to survivors of Larry Nassar’s s**ual abuse. This substantial settlement arises from the FBI’s mishandling of the initial allegations. But all this was possible when Simone Biles courageously stepped forward, alongside others, to bravely share her experience of abuse at the hands of Larry Nassar.

Simone Biles reveals startling truth behind abuse scandal

Simone Biles delivered an opening statement, asserting her belief that the mistreatment she endured occurred due to the systemic failures of organizations mandated by Congress to safeguard athletes–namely, the USA Gymnastics and the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee. As she said, ” I was abused by their official team doctor long before I was ever made aware of their knowledge.” Expressing her profound concern, Biles emphasized, “I don’t want another young gymnast, or Olympic athlete, or any individual to experience the horror that I and hundreds of others have endured before, during and continuing to this day in the wake of the Larry Nassar abuse,” her voice reflecting palpable emotion.

Delivered to the Senate Judiciary Committee, her testimony comes in the wake of a damning Justice Department inspector general report from July of that year (2021), shedding light on the FBI’s mishandling of the Nassar case. The report uncovered a severe oversight: despite initial reports of sexual assault in 2015 at Michigan State University, a high school, and a gymnastics club. But Nassar continued to have access to vulnerable gymnasts until September 2016.

Deeply troubled by the findings of the report, Biles asserted, “We suffered and continue to suffer because no one at FBI, USAG or the USOPC did what was necessary to protect us, stressing the urgent need for accountability. She underscored the imperative of holding those complicit in enabling Nassar accountable, affirming her conviction that, without repercussions, such egregious misconduct will persist across Olympic sports, perpetuating harm to future generations. But the abuse wasn’t isolated to Simone Biles alone.

Decorated gymnast Simone Biles thought “the world is going to hate me” when she withdrew from the team final at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics after experiencing the “twisties.”

The four-time Olympic gold medalist revealed what was going through her mind in the 2020 Summer Olympics on an episode of the “Call Her Daddy” podcast posted on Wednesday. When she realized she had the “twisties,” best described as when a gymnast can’t comprehend what their body is trying to do and is unable to execute moves, Biles thought she would be heavily criticized by her home country.

“If I could have got on a plane and flown home, I would have done it,” Biles said. “As soon as I landed (the vault), I was like, ‘Oh, America hates me.’ The world is going to hate me. And I can only see what they’re saying on Twitter right now. That was my first thought.

“I thought I was gonna be banned from America. Because that’s what they tell you; don’t come back. If it’s not gold, gold or bust, don’t come back.”

Biles was replaced by Jordan Chiles in the team event, where the U.S. won silver. Biles won the bronze medal in the balance beam before stepping away from gymnastics for a time. She also detailed what it’s like to experience the “twisties,” comparing them to the “yips” in baseball or suddenly forgetting how to drive a car.

“It’s basically like your mind and your body is at a disconnect. Your body is going to try to do something and your mind is going to be like, ‘No, you’re not doing this,’ ” Biles said. “You’ve been doing something for so long, and you now no longer have control.

“I go to tell my coach, and I said ‘I’m done. I’m not doing any more.’ Because if I survive that, I don’t know how much else I can survive.”

Biles has returned to excellence in gymnastics. In October, Biles won her 33rd medal at the world championships and Olympics, tying Vitaly Scherbo for most by any gymnast, and she will be going for more at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
