Six-division world champion Oscar De La Hoya has shared his confusion over the supposed talks between Conor Benn and Gervonta Davis – but has also explained why he feels Benn may be able to win if the bout does materialise.

Benn looked below-par against Peter Dobson last weekend and went the distance for the second time since returning from an almost 18-month spell of inactivity, following the infamous failed doping test that led to the cancellation of his clash with Chris Eubank Jr.

Just hours after the win, Benn’s performance was criticized by ‘Tank’ Davis, who got the ball rolling for a potential contest with the Brit after claiming he would need just three weeks to prepare for ‘The Destroyer’.

Since then, Matchroom Promoter Eddie Hearn has confirmed that an offer has been made to Davis and chances of seeing the fight come to life seem to be growing with every passing day.

Rival promoter Oscar De La Hoya has had his say on the proposed match-up, and explained why he believes Benn would come out on top, despite Davis being ‘the better fighter’, in an interview with FightHype.com.]

Any such bout would likely take place at welterweight and be staged in the United States, due to Benn’s ongoing complications with the BBBofC.
