Otto Wallin

OTTO WALLIN could very well be the most in-demand man in boxing if Tyson Fury is to fight Anthony Joshua.

That is because he is just one of four men to have shared the ring with both the British superstars.

And he is the most recent to have fought them both.

Wallin lost on points to Fury in 2019 – but only after the WBC champion suffered a nasty eye cut that needed 47 stitches.

And in December he was stopped in five rounds by AJ, who fractured the Swede’s nose in the process.

Anthony Joshua

Joshua’s dominance in Saudi Arabia looks to have revived his hopes of heavyweight world title contention.

And meanwhile Fury struggled against AJ’s next opponent – MMA star Francis Ngannou – escaping with a controversial split-decision win.

It has helped level the playing field when it comes to comparing the long-time domestic rivals.

And even Wallin – after 17 shared rounds between them – struggles to split the two.

He told SunSport: “I feel like Joshua is a very good fighter, very good power, very good counter puncher. I feel like he definitely has a shot with Fury.

“And you just never know what Tyson Fury shows up. I still have a hard time going against Tyson in that fight.

“But, the fights if you compare it my fight against Joshua was a lot tougher than the one I had against Fury.

“That doesn’t mean everything but I give Joshua more of a chance than I did before. But I still would probably pick Fury as the favourite.”

Fury had to battle through nine rounds of struggling to see through his right eye after a gruesome gash sustained against Wallin.

His performance and tactics were slammed by outspoken dad John and sparked a huge change in the Gypsy King’s career.

He left trainer Ben Davison for American Sugarhill Steward, packed on the pounds and ditched his elusive style in favour of power punching.

It saw him go onto defeat Deontay Wilder twice, KO Dillian Whyte, stop Derek Chisora and edge past Ngannou.

But Wallin believes the hard-to-hit Fury of old is better served returning for a fight with Joshua.

He said: “I think that what Fury has is that he’s awkward, he’s big and he’s got a good jab and feints when he uses them.

“I think that’s what’s made him good and he needs to continue to do that. I’m not sure how much they’re working on that now with his new trainer.

“But it’s important for him to be awkward and feint a lot and use his good boxing skill.

“With Joshua, what he has is a lot of power, he’s pretty fast for how big he is and not only fast with his hands but fast with his feet too.

“I think that’s something he will need against Fury.”

Fury, 35, was due to return on February 17 against Oleksandr Usyk, 37, but a horror cut in sparring forced a postponement till May 18.

For Joshua, 34, he takes on Ngannou, 37, on March 8 looking to better Fury’s lacklustre performance against the ex-UFC champion.

And Wallin – who enjoyed a short three-week break before getting back into training – is ready to build himself up after refusing retirement.

He said: “I was thinking about everything, my career, should I continue in boxing, should I start doing something else.

“But that was more the days after the fight, I then started to feel like, ‘You know what? I lost to the better fighter, one of the best in the world and there’s no real shame in that.’

Otto Wallin suffered a fractured nose in his defeat at the hands of Anthony Joshua.

‘All In’ and ‘AJ’ met in the main event of the high-profile ‘Day Of Reckoning’ card last month in Saudi Arabia. Wallin headed into the matchup unbeaten since a 2019 loss to Tyson Fury and had defeated names such as former champion Murat Gassiev.

However, it looked like vintage Joshua last month. In the main event of a DAZN pay-per-view offering, the British boxer put on a clinch. The former two-time champion battered Wallin, eventually forcing the Swede to quit on his stool at the end of round five.

Weeks removed from the defeat, Wallin has broken his silence. Speaking to Boxing News, the former title challenger praised Joshua and his win. However, he also added that he’s already gotten surgery for a broken nose.

Furthermore, his time in surgery likely isn’t over, either. Speaking in the interview, he stated (via Boxing Social):

Heavyweight contender Otto Wallin admits that he now has a different viewpoint when it comes to a potential fight between British rivals Anthony Joshua and WBC world champion Tyson Fury.

Back in 2019, Wallin lost a spirited twelve round unanimous decision to Fury. During that fight, Fury sustained two severe cuts from legal punches. There was realistic concern that a ringside physician would stop the fight, and in turn would have Wallin named as a TKO winner – but the contest was allowed the play out.

Last month in Saudi Arabia, Joshua battered and stopped Wallin in five rounds of action.

Before last month’s defeat, Wallin was pretty confident that Fury would defeat Joshua. That opinion has changed a bit, and the Swedish fighter is not as confident in Fury’s ability to come out on top.

“Well, I would say that this fight with Joshua was a lot tougher than the fight I had with Fury,” Wallin said to Boxing News.

“It’s hard to say [what would happen in a fight between Fury and Joshua]. I think that Fury’s a very good fighter. Can probably pick it up from what he was doing in his last fight. It’s a decent fight. We’ll see what happens with Joshua now.

“He might be on to something really good with Ben Davison, and Ben obviously knows Tyson. I don’t know. There’s a lot of variables. I always said that Fury would win that fight, but now just being in with Joshua, I feel a little bit different. It’s hard to go against Tyson I think. But, I don’t know, it’s changed my mind a bit after this fight.”

Fury returns to the ring on February 17, when he faces IBF, IBO, WBA, WBO champion Oleksandr Usyk in a high-stakes undisputed fight in Saudi Arabia.

Anthony Joshua has been urged to ‘fight somebody who wants to win’ following a domination of Otto Wallin this month.

Joshua quickly got to Wallin in his third and final fight of 2023 on the Day of Reckoning card. Across the first five rounds he inflicted sufficient damage – without taking any real shots himself – that the Swede’s corner pulled him out.

Still, former opponent Andy Ruiz Jr was not impressed. The one time unified champion fought Joshua twice, first winning with a huge upset knockout at Madison Square Garden in June 2019 before losing the belts in December the same year across 12 rounds.

Anthony Joshua

Speaking to Fight Hub TV, Ruiz Jr was asked what he made of ‘AJ’s latest fight and claimed the opponent didn’t really come to win.

He was asked to confirm that he would like to fight Joshua for a third time.

Of all the men Parker could fight next, Ruiz seems high on the list in what would be a rematch of their 2016 world title fight which saw Parker come out victorious.

Anthony Joshua has risen in the Ring Magazine’s latest heavyweight rankings on Thursday after his knockout win over Otto Wallin, while Deontay Wilder suffered a significant drop.

Wilder was completely outclassed over 12 rounds as he suffered a crushing defeat to Joseph Parker in Riyadh. Six of the boxers from the new Top 10 list were in action as part of the ‘Day of Reckoning’ show in Saudi Arabia.

In the two main events, Parker outboxed Wilder for a wide unanimous decision and Joshua stopped Wallin after five rounds of action in the ring.

This result led to the British-Nigerian leapfrogging the American and taking his number two position.

The ‘champion’ top spot is held by Oleksandr Usyk, while Tyson Fury is currently ranked number one beneath him. Joshua, Zhilei Zhang and Joseph Parker secure the next three (second, third, and fourth) positions, respectively.

Wilder has dropped all the way down to number nine as a result of the Parker loss, as it has left him with a record of 1-3 since 2019.

Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder

Notably, the fifth-ranked contender is Filip Hrgović, a Croatian heavyweight, who impressed fans with a first-round KO on the ‘Day of Reckoning’. The remaining slots in the Top 10 feature Frank Sanchez, Jared Anderson, Joe Joyce and Agit Kabayel.

Some fans believe that the Bronze Bomber should have been kicked off the list altogether as Lev Walker wrote on X, “(Wilder) shouldn’t even be in the top ten.”

Another user, @rotch43800 echoed his sentiments stating, “Wilder shouldn’t even be in top 30.”

Anthony Joshua has been told that Tyson Fury is ‘unbeatable’ despite his stunning win over Otto Wallin.

Former two-time heavyweight champion Joshua turned back the clock by beating up Wallin for five rounds last weekend before the Swede’s corner pulled him out of the fight. ‘AJ’ was expected to fight Deontay Wilder next but the fight is now seemingly off after Wilder was decisively beaten by Joseph Parker just moments before Joshua walked to the ring.

Andy Lee, the coach who guided Parker to a win against Wilder, was quick to criticise a fan who compared Tyson Fury and Joshua’s wins against Wilder. Fury suffered a nasty gash above his eye but fought on to beat Wallin four years ago and Lee, who also trains Fury, has insisted ‘The Gypsy King’ can’t be beaten.

“AJ smokes the guy that bloodied Fury ridiculously In the same night Wilder gets easily beaten by Parker, a man AJ handily beat when he was a world champ Interesting how this is playing out,” the fan wrote. Lee then replied: “What’s the motivation behind this tweet? Hating on a man who’s done nothing but win. Winning fights has a lot to do with timing. No one will beat Tyson.”

Lee was forced to defend Fury after one fan claimed he’s been avoiding fights against Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk. “I know Tyson has done all he can and exceeded to make both these fights. Whatever gets put out in the media is different from what’s really happening

Fury looks to become an undisputed heavyweight champion when he takes on Usyk on February 17th. The Brit exited the ring in October battered and bruised after being dropped in his crossover fight with former UFC champion Francis Ngannou, winning by a single point in a controversial decision.

Joshua will be in attendance for the undisputed clash and is backing Usyk, who has beaten him twice, to win the fight. “I think it’s gonna be a really, really good fight. I’m going to be straight up, I’m leaning towards Usyk, but who knows? They’re both at the top of their game. I wish them well. I hope they have a great training camp,” he said.

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – Former two-time heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua (27-3, 24 KOs) punished and stopped Otto Wallin (26-2, 14 KOs) in five rounds of one-sided action.

In one of his most active years in some time, Joshua was taking part in his third fight of 2023.

The British star had been slated to face Deontay Wilder in March of 2024, but Wilder lost a one-sided decision to Joseph Parker in the co-feature.

Johsua came out pressing forward and pushing Wallin back. Wallin was boxing well, but his nose was already reddened by the jab of Joshua. A tactical boxing match in the second, with both having moments of success. The nose of Wallin began to bleed from the jab of Joshua. The third was give and take at times, with Joshua connecting on the harder punches.

The fourth saw Joshua outbox and outland Wallin. The face of Wallin was getting marked up. In the fifth, Wallin was getting caught often by Joshua’s shots to the head and body. A big left hand rocked Wallin, who staggered back to the ropes. Joshua jumped on him, with Wallin moving away to weather the storm. At the end of the round, the corner of Wallin waved off the fight.

MORE DETAILS TO COME………………….

ANTHONY JOSHUA cannot repeat the Tyson Fury disaster of overlooking an unfancied opponent and blowing his Deontay Wilder showdown.

In October the 35-year-old WBC Gypsy King was supposed to fly into Saudi Arabia, beat boxing debutant Francis Ngannou and sign off on the December 23 undisputed decider with Oleksandr Usyk

But the giant showman put on a nightmare performance, getting dropped in round three before nicking a decision off the judges.

That cancelled the Christmas cracker – now pushed back to February 17 – and let AJ vs Otto Wallin snatch up the slot.

After weighing in at 17st 13lbs, London 2012 hero Joshua said: “If my prayers are answered I will get the win.

“But I’m making it’s not just prayers, I am following it up with actions as well.”

When asked about the fear of repeating the Fury fiasco, the 34-year-old added: “Let me not make that same mistake.

Anthony Joshua

“Listen, I am a serious fighter, I am a serious businessman as well. I’ve got a great team behind me, they’re handling business.

“But as I always say, let me focus on what I have to focus on because without Saturday night there is no future.

“Saturday night – as I’ve been saying all week – that’s been my main focus. Whatever happens in the ring, I know that’s where my heart is.

“I need to get this win”

Southpaw Wallin, 32, weighed in a stone lighter and claimed his time is now.

Four years after leaving Fury with 47 stitches in his bloody loss, he said: “I just know tomorrow there will be a new king and he comes from Sweden.”

Anthony Joshua ‘s net worth could rise to close to £150million tonight when he earns more than £10m for fighting Otto Wallin.

‘AJ’ returns to the ring against Wallin at the ‘Day of Reckoning’ event in Saudi Arabia, which also features Deontay Wilder vs Joseph Parker and several other heavyweight stars. Joshua is hoping a win against Wallin will set up a money-fight against Wilder, as terms have already been agreed for the pair to fight on March 9.

Joshua has earned some massive paydays throughout his boxing career, including £33m when he failed to win his heavyweight world titles back against Oleksandr Usyk last year. ‘AJ’ earned £10m for his win against Jermaine Franklin in April and around the same sum for knocking out Robert Helenius in August and he will add at least another £10m on top of that this year for fighting Wallin.

Joshua is working with Tyson Fury’s ex trainer Ben Davison for his fight against Wallin as it marks his fourth coach in just over two years. ‘AJ’ split with Robert McCracken after losing to Usyk for the first time, but his stint with Robert Garcia lasted just one fight. Derrick James trained him for his fights with Franklin and Helenius as Davison looks to guide him to a third win this year.

Anthony Joshua

Wilder is hoping an emphatic win against Parker, who Joshua beat on points in 2018, will be enough to earn him a £50m payday to fight the Brit. “I deliver what I was supposed to deliver years ago. I knock AJ out, I deliver what they ran from. I deliver what he asked for $50million for, I’m going to give him a $50m knockout,” Wilder told Queensbury

Joshua has previously admitted that money is his love language as told The Independent earlier this year: “Money is part of a big jigsaw puzzle. The reason I say ‘money’ is just because I know how much it helps people. That’s my love language; I can’t be there for you emotionally, I can’t be there physically, because I’m working – but I can wire you some cash!

“I’m not saying money because I’m balling, like I’m getting 50 Range Rovers and saying, ‘F*** you, you can’t come and sit in my car’. I’ll get 50 Range Rovers to say, ‘Everyone come and feel what it’s like to sit in this Range Rover, and let’s put a plan in place so that you can get one, too’.”

Frank Warren is the lead promoter of the upcoming ‘Day of Reckoning’ card, which takes place on Saturday in Saudi Arabia.

The big event will feature numerous top heavyweights and several world champions.

In the main event, former two-time heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua will face tough contender Otto Wallin. The co-feature will have Deontay Wilder and Joseph Parker colliding in a battle of former champions.

If Joshua and Wilder win their respective bouts, there is a good possibility of them colliding in the first quarter of 2024.

“The joint-main events have a lot of significance as far as boxing’s concerned in as much that Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder are involved in quite tasty and tough fights and should they come through then they’re going to be in a position where I believe they’re going to be facing off next year,” Warren said to Sky Sports.

Anthony Joshua and Deontay

“That’s a massive, massive fight. A fight that a lot of people, certainly the fans talk about a lot. But to get there they’ve got to get through Saturday night in Riyadh. Get it out of the way on Saturday and all will be revealed but there’s a will to make this happen and I’m quite sure everybody’s going to be happy with the outcome provided these guys deliver. The most important thing for them, they’ve got to deliver.”

The biggest financial opportunity for Joshua is a crack at WBC world champion Tyson Fury.

However, Fury is already scheduled to take part in an undisputed showdown with WBO, IBF, WBA, IBO champion Oleksandr Usyk on February 17. There is also a two-way rematch clause – which indicates that a second meeting is very likely.

“He’d have a long wait for Tyson,” Warren said of AJ. “Tyson’s got his fight and his programme’s set out for next year and at this moment in time doesn’t include Joshua.

“Joshua, he had two opportunities to fight him [Fury], one last December and this year. Those fights didn’t happen for whatever reason and the situation is now that we are in a position where a number of big fights will be announced. It all depends what happens on Saturday.”
