There has been much speculation about a potential matchup between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford, a bout that has been discussed for nearly a year. However, Amir Khan, who has faced both Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford in the ring, believes Crawford should consider alternative opponents instead of clashing with the Mexican superstar, as he understands the daunting challenges each fighter presents.

Khan, who was defeated by Crawford in 2019 and by Alvarez in 2016, has voiced his opinion against the proposed fight between Crawford and Alvarez.

Khan explains why Crawford should not face Alvarez

Drawing from his own experiences, Khan feels that Crawford might benefit more from exploring other opportunities rather than facing Alvarez.

He believes the fight might not be in Crawford‘s best interest and suggests that Crawford focus on other challenges in his boxing career.

“I don’t think Crawford should take that fight because he doesn’t need it,” Khan told talkSPORT.

“There are other fights out there he could take and make big money from. You can always get hurt, when you’re fighting a big puncher like that you can get hurt and I don’t think it’s worth it.

“I’d advise fighters not to jump up too much weight and fight, unless the money is ridiculous.

“I got paid like $10million when I fought him, it’s a lot of money.

“Normally I’d get paid like $3million, I was like, ‘What’s the point when I can just take this one fight and get paid for three fights?’

“It’s not only that, it’s all the training sessions and everything.

“Really I went there for the big purse, but I started believing I was gonna win the fight.

“That’s why I was up on points, but he caught me with the big shot and he put me away.”

Crawford is scheduled to move up to 154 pounds this August to fight Israil Madrimov. Should he succeed, there is potential for an even greater jump to the super-middleweight division.

Terence Crawford is right at the top of many pound-for-pound lists, but he’s not done yet and is chasing more legacy-building fights.

‘Bud’s place in the history books was cemented last year when he put in a career-defining performance against Errol Spence Jr. The fight was viewed by many as a 50-50 clash, but Crawford made it look easy, dominating from the opening bell and eventually stopping Spence in the ninth round. With that win he became the first man to ever be undisputed champion in two weight divisions in the four-belt era.

Since then Crawford has been targeting one man – super-middleweight ruler, Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.

Although a Canelo fight would require Crawford to jump three weight classes from his last outing, the 36-year-old doesn’t believe the jump is too far.

Speaking on the Earn Your Leisure podcast Crawford believes the only man that can beat him is himself.

Crawford will take his first steps in closing the weight gap to Canelo when he makes his 154 debut against WBA champion Israil Madrimov on August 3 in Los Angeles.

Teofimo Lopez has not got over Terence Crawford yet! At a time when Lopez should focus on Steve Claggett since they fight on the 29th of this month with the former’s WBO Super-Lightweight title on the line, ‘The Takeover’ dares to imagine himself against ‘Bud’ Crawford. While it is not the first time Lopez has called out Crawford, the 26-year-old feels he has a point to prove!

One must recall that in January this year, ahead of his title defense against Jamaine Ortiz, Teofimo Lopez, having branded himself as a “great fighter,” invited Terence Crawford to taste the “tough competition” ‘The Takeover’ believed he contained in himself. Additionally, the former unified Lightweight champion tried to inveigle ‘Bud’ claiming the former two-time undisputed champion could “make more money than you made with Spence.”

As per Lopez, with a fight against ‘Bud,’ he could become a “greater fighter” in the sport. However, the boxing world burst into laughter when Crawford instructed Lopez to fight “little guys” and left his dream of becoming a greater fighter hanging. But, despite zero interest shown by ‘Bud,’ Teo has not given up hope. Therefore, on the Danza Project, the 26-year-old boxer expressed his desire to be a three-time lineal champion. “I done shocked this world twice,” said Lopez, referring to his victories over Vasyl Lomachenko [135 lbs] and Josh Taylor [140 lbs].

It’s to the point that they can’t even give me Crawford,” Teofimo Lopez added. “I’m like ‘Yo, give me Crawford so I can make it thrice.’ Let’s duke it out in the ring. Let’s show who the best of the best is.

By and by, Teofimo Lopez suggested fighting Terence Crawford at catchweight.

Teofimo Lopez to go up in weight class for Terence Crawford

On August 3rd, Terence Crawford will make his Super-Welterweight debut and try to win the WBA Super-Welterweight title from Israil Madrimov. As Crawford is moving up to 154 lbs from 147 lbs where he faced Errol Spence Jr. last year, Lopez wants to climb too. Following the upcoming title defense against Steve Claggett, ‘The Takeover’ expects to gain seven pounds. And as of now, he hopes ‘Bud’ will take Lopez into consideration after the debut at 154.

In his opinion, Crawford should ultimately fight ‘The Takeover’ at a catchweight so that Lopez can finally have a career similar to Roberto Duran’s. “We’re not too far in weight class. He just moved up to 154, shoot, I’ll go to 147. We do a catchweight. I ain’t scared of these guys,” announced Teofimo Lopez casually. Terence Crawford moves into a fourth division on August 3 but he doesn’t plan to stop there.

The two-time undisputed champion catapulted to the top of pound-for-pound lists last year with a dominant victory over Errol Spence Jr. During his media victory lap, he set his sights on Saul ‘Canelo‘ Alvarez.

The Mexican great, who currently holds all four belts at super-middleweight, initially dismissed the fight, saying he would get no credit for beating the smaller man.

Crawford would have to make a three-division jump from welterweight, but makes the first tentative step this year when he moves to 154 to challenge WBA champion Israil Madrimov.

Speaking to ES News, former undisputed heavyweight champion Mike Tyson warned ‘Bud’ Crawford against the weight jump, saying he didn’t have to do it for a legacy already cemented.

Crawford’s performance against the undefeated Uzbek will be a good measuring stick for his ability to still pack on pounds after winning his first world titles at lightweight.

Canelo is expected to return in September to defend his belts at 168 with Edgar Berlanga a frontrunner.

Meanwhile, Tyson himself is preparing for a fight – one some might say, like his own advice, ‘he doesn’t have to do.’ He will face Jake Paul in November in a professional contest with slightly altered rules. It was initially postponed

Terence Crawford has already conquered three-weight classes and has his sights set on more before he hangs up the gloves.

The 36-year-old won titles at lightweight before becoming undisputed at super-lightweight and, just last year, achieved the same feat at welterweight with a dominant victory over Errol Spence Jr.

Seemingly uninterested in top 147 contenders like Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis, the Omaha fighter is now ready to move up once more – but that’s not to say there aren’t tempting match-ups that could see him return.

In an interview with The Breakfast Club following the Spence victory, Crawford reacted to Gervonta Davis saying he could knock him out.

‘Tank’ Davis has fought as high as the super-lightweight limit of 140 – a win over Mario Barrios for the WBA Regular belt – although looks much more suited to 135 where he is currently full WBA Champion.

Asked if he would stick around to make 147 for the fight, ‘Bud’ said yes for the money rather than the credit, but warned Davis against that scale of weight-jump.

As ‘Tank’ now pushes to become undisputed at lightweight, the gulf deepens as Crawford moves to 154 on August 3 to challenge for a world title in a fourth division, this time against Israil Madrimov.

He has an ambitious weight jump of his own in his sights thereafter, adamant that he wants a shot at undisputed 168 champion Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.

Many were surprised when Terence Crawford, fresh off becoming undisputed at welterweight, called out his counterpart at super-middleweight, Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.

‘Bud’ Crawford’s victory over Errol Spence to secure all four belts was so impressive that not many would question what he could do next in the sport, although a three-weight jump to face superstar Canelo did seem farfetched even for him.

It did get people talking, and that includes another former welterweight champion in Manny Pacquiao.

Whilst stopping short of making a prediction – saying the result “depends on both fighters” – Pacquiao did send a warning Crawford’s way via Fight Hub TV about the jump in weight.

There’s no better man in the sport to seek advice from on that particular subject. The Filipino sensation is the only eight-division world champion in the history of the sport, winning belts from 112 pounds all the way up to 154.

For that reason, and many others, Pacquiao goes down in the history books as one of the greatest to ever do it, and Crawford is seeking to build a legacy of his own by pushing the limits.

He makes the first step towards Canelo by moving up to 154 on August 3 when he will challenge champion Israil Madrimov. A win at super-welterweight – his fourth division – will make the Canelo fight more likely. Pair that with Saudi Arabis’s Turki Alalshikh’s goal to make it happen and it becomes a very real prospect. Canelo recently said that he would fight anyone if the money was right when asked about facing the American – a reverse of his previous stance of disinterest.

As for Pacquiao, he is again considering a return of his own, perhaps to fight for one of the belts Crawford will vacate.

Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford is one of the most anticipated possible fights, becoming a dream for fans and promoters alike.

However, Saudi Sheikh Turki Al-Sheikh, who is in charge of the Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk fight, is looking to organize the fight between the Mexican and the American, with a view to it taking place in early 2025.

Canelo Alvarez is still looking for an opponent after his convincing victory over Jaime Munguia. There are many suitors as the Mexican looks to get back in the ring in September, but only a few are among the realistic candidates to land a fight against him.

One of the realistic options who qualifies by name, trajectory and prestige, is Terence Crawford.

A fight between the two would generate a huge expectation among fans, and it’s no secret that Canelo will want to get the maximum economic benefit from a possible duel against the American fighter and welterweight champion.

Reaction to Usyk vs Fury

The American fighter posted a tweet after the Oleksandr Usyk vs Tyson Fury fight, a bout that he followed on TV.

“Everyone better give Usyk some respect, man,” Crawford posted on X minutes after the fight concluded.

“He’s definitely a contender to be the number one pound-for-pound fighter in the world. I don’t hate anyone. He beat the man who beat the man in a bigger division, on top of everything he’s already done.”

Usyk‘s victory over Tyson Fury made him the best pound-for-pound fighter in boxing today, surpassing Naoya InoueTerence Crawford.

He also distanced himself from Canelo Alvarez, with the tapatío having long since exited the debate.

ESPN Ringside has shared a few snapshots of Jared Anderson and Terence Crawford. It shows the former undisputed welterweight champion watching with rapt attention while the young heavyweight contender trains. Since the time they came, the photos have been gaining considerable traction among fans.

On August 3, Terence Crawford will kick off his campaign in the 154-pound weight class. He will face WBA light middleweight champion Israil Madrimov. The event, conducted under Riyadh Season’s auspices, features quite a few exciting cards. It seems there are two non-title fights, both in the heavyweight division. Aside from the bout between Andy Ruiz Jr. and Jarrell Miller, upcoming contender Jared Anderson squares up against Martin Bakole.

Terence Crawford and Jared Anderson, Understanding Sweet Science Together

The tweet read, “Bud and Big Baby in the lab.” 24-year-old Anderson defended his regional title against Ryad Merhy on August 13 last year. In Bakole, he faces a formidable opponent with a justified pedigree. The Congolese boxer stands as the as the number one ranked boxer on the WBA’s heavyweight list. Clearly, ‘The Real Big Baby’ doesn’t want to leave any stone unturned.

Understandably, the Toledo-born boxer may perhaps want to retain his unbeaten streak. Additionally, a win over another ranking heavyweight promises a better standing in the hierarchy. There were talks of fighting against Deontay Wilder. But as it appears, the showdown may now have a negligible chance of happening, given how ‘The Bronze Bomber’ suffered his fourth defeat at the hands of Zhilei Zhang.

Heavyweights Martin Bakole and Jared Anderson are the latest additions to Riyadh Season’s first card on US shores – headlined by Terence Crawford – after Tim Tszyu versus Vergil Ortiz Jr was cancelled.

Turki Alalshikh promised a big replacement and, in terms of power, he has delivered. Tszyu’s cut from the Sebastian Fundora fight turned out too bad to fight again so soon, meaning fans miss out on what was an excellent piece of matchmaking, at least for now.

To keep the hype high, the promotion has decided to step undefeated Anderson up against Bakole – the Congolese heavyweight fighting out of Scotland that his promoter and trainer claim is the most avoided in the division.

Bakole is coming off an impressive stoppage of heavyweight stalwart Carlos Takam in Saudi Arabia, and recently missed out on a fight with Joe Joyce. His record is lacking big names, something he believes is due to the beatings he puts on fighters in the gym being enough to convince them against a pro bout.

Anderson has been consistent in saying he wants to take on all comers. The 24-year-old has stopped fifteen in seventeen wins, but did show some vulnerabilities when he stepped up against former world champion Charles Martin.

Terence Crawford tops the bill in his debut at 154lbs challenging for Israil Madrimov’s WBA title and the vacant WBO. The card also features Isaac Cruz vs Jose Valenzuela for Cruz’s WBA super lightweight title, an intriguing heavyweight bout between Andy Ruiz and Jarrell Miller, David Morrell against Radivoje Kalajdzic and Cuban sensation Andy Cruz vs Antonio Moran.

While Saudi Arabia and its ‘petrodollars’ are clamoring to have the star fight that everyone wants, Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford, former world champion James Toney appeared on the scene and gave his blunt verdict on the possible winner of that fight.

The Saudis, through Turki Alalshikh, the highest authority in the Arab country in charge of training festivals, has set his eye on Crawford after he defeated Errol Spencer Jr at the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise (Nevada, United States) in July 2023.

Since then, the objective of the Asian leader has been to link him with Canelo Alvarez to get the fight to Saudi Arabia by the end of this year or early 2025.

Toney does not back Canelo

Beyond this business desire, the one who came out to give his verdict on the future fight between these huge names was the former champion James Toney, who predicted the worst for the Mexican if he enters the ring with the American.

Toney was interviewed by ‘ES NEWS’ and he did not mince his words and said that Crawford will not only beat Canelo, but will beat him by knockout.

Another who spoke along the same lines was another former champion, Tim Bradley, who expressed the same opinion as Toney and said: “Crawford beats anyone he gets in the ring with. Anybody. Nobody beats Terence.”

Before that supposed fight, Crawford has a bout against Israel Madrimov coming up, in which the WBA and WBO super welterweight titles will be at stake. The fight will be on August 3 in Los Angeles.
