Welcome to another edition of The Grind, where we promise that I am, in fact, a real person. That’s right, an actual living, breathing human and not some AI-generated persona. Now, there might be some weeks where you might prefer the latter—especially if I’m talking about Costco too much—but at least you know I’m not some algorithm spitting out what it thinks you want to read. When I started writing this column nearly 11 years ago (NBD), such a thing wasn’t even imaginable, but, sadly, that’s where we are these days. I get that AI can be a tremendous tool—heck, I’m toying with an AI putter for next season—but let’s at least draw the line at writing about sports. Please. Anyway, let’s talk some golf before the machines take over everything.

Min Woo Lee: The “LET HIM COOK” is more like “HE IS COOKING” after a second win in about a month. Lee’s latest victory came at the Australian PGA

Championship, where he held off a pretty decent field for professional title No. 4.

The 25-year-old still has a way to go to catch big sister, Minjee, but he’s now up to No. 38 in the Official World Golf Ranking. And when it comes to the game’s best entertainers, he has to be unofficially ranked in the top five.

This house: We’ve seen some spectacular golf pads through the years, but this is up there with the best. An Augusta National-esque clubhouse? With a backyard golf complex? Yes, please.

Wow. In the words of Liz Lemon: “I want to go to there.” Well, when it gets warmer in Ohio, at least.

Free golf lessons: Especially from a PGA Tour winner. At least, that’s what Michael Kim offered while he was waiting for a flight last week. Just one big catch: You had to be at the Istanbul Airport!

Unfortunately, no one was able to take up Michael on his offer. Maybe next time. It also reminded me of the time I stumbled across a CASINO in the Amsterdam Airport. Needless to say, that did NOT end well for me. Moving on …

John Senden’s medical luck: Just a few years removed from having his son diagnosed with brain cancer, the Aussie revealed he’s been battling Parkinson’s disease

That’s not keeping him off the course, however, as the two-time PGA Tour winner narrowly missed the cut at the Australian PGA Championship. But seriously, whether it’s the golf gods or regular gods, that’s way too much for someone to handle. Let’s just hope he gets through this as well as his son, who is doing great and caddied for him last week.

Adam Scott’s throwing accuracy: We’re not sure how this is possible, but Adam Scott tossed a golf ball toward the crowd last week—and completely missed an entire GRANDSTAND. Seriously, you have to see it to believe it

After seven months, Tiger Woods will be back on the course.

The 15-time major champion makes his return to golf this weekend at the 2023 Hero World Challenge at Albany in the Bahamas. Woods also hosts the tournament as part of his TGR Ventures.

The tournament, which will take place from Nov. 30-Dec. 3, isn’t a PGA Tour event and has a field of 20 players for the weekend. Players include Scottie Scheffler, Viktor Hovland, Max Homa and Jordan Spieth.

It will be the first time Woods will play professional golf since the 2023 Masters in April, where he made the cut but withdrew before the third round due to injury by reaggravating his plantar fasciitis.

Is Tiger Woods retired?

Despite a lengthy injury history in recent years, Woods has not announced any plans to retire or do a farewell tour from professional golf. There was speculation he could retire after having ankle surgery to address his post-traumatic arthritis following the Masters, but his return in the Bahamas indicates he is going to attempt to continue his career.

Tiger Woods

This won’t be the only tournament Woods will play in the near future. He, along with son Charlie, will compete in the PNC Championship at Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando, Florida on Dec. 16-17, marking two tournaments in three weekends for Woods.

Tiger Woods new caddie

When Woods takes the course on Nov. 30, there is uncertainty as to who will be joining him as his caddie

Joe LaCava has been Woods’ caddie since 2011, but when Woods underwent surgery and didn’t have a timeline for his return, LaCava became the full-time caddie for fellow PGA Tour player Patrick Cantlay. LaCava got approval from Woods to be on the bag for Cantlay during his time away from golf.

There hasn’t been an announcement as to who will be on the bag for Woods in the Bahamas.

What about Tiger Woods’ indoor golf league?

The new TGL indoor golf league led by Woods and Rory McIlroy was scheduled to start on Jan. 9, 2024, but it took a major hit after the SoFi Center dome – the host venue that was still under construction for TGL matches on the campus of Palm Beach State College – deflated on Nov. 14.

As a result, the league decided to postpone play until early 2025.

Team Woods will officially return to Orlando for the PNC Championship.

On Wednesday, Tiger Woods and his son Charlie committed to playing in the upcoming family-based tournament. What started as a father-son event has turned into something far more. Major champions or Players Championship winners play with their parents, sons, daughters, or grandchildren.

This year marks the fourth straight PNC Championship for Team Woods. It’s the lone tournament the Big Cat has not missed since his tragic car crash in Feb. 2021. Team Woods’ best finish came in 2021 when they tied for second.

The event has become one of Woods’ favorites to compete in because he gets to do it with Charlie.

“It is an amazing gift to be able to share my love of golf with Charlie, and we genuinely do look forward to playing in the PNC Championship all year,” Woods said in a press release. “Competing together, against a field of so many golfing greats and their families, is so special.”

This year has been full of competitive golf for the Woods’. Charlie has played in multiple events, from qualifying for the Notah Begay III Junior Invitational to helping his high school team win a state championship, all with Dad watching his son play the game they both love.

Charlie Tiger

Woods being on the bag for Charlie at the Notah Begay Jr. Invitational sparked rumors of a potential comeback. Those rumors were true. The 15-time major champion announced his return to the PGA Tour for the Hero World Challenge.

He will tee it up with Charlie for the PNC Championship two weeks later, making two events in less than a month.

Fans love it when Team Woods plays in the PNC Championship. The parallel mannerisms between Big and Little Cat were uncanny. Their interactions together also gave fans something to appreciate. The way Charlie loves to trash talk and aggravate Justin Thomas is also a fan favorite.

It showed how much they and the rest of the field love to compete in this family-based tournament.

Joining the Woods’ is Padraig Harrington, who will compete with his youngest son, Ciaran. Six-time major winner Lee Trevino will make his 26th appearance at the PNC Championship with his grandson Daniel, making him the only golfer to compete in every edition.

Nelly Korda and her father, Petr, are in the field. Annika Sorenstam and her son Will McGee will play. Matt Kuchar and Cameron Kuchar make their return. The only new pairing is Steve Stricker and his daughter Izzi.

The 2023 PNC Championship will be a 36-hole event at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club Orlando, Grande Lakes, on Dec. 14-17.

Tiger Woods has been off of any official tournaments for the past nine months, until recently when his comeback was confirmed. After going through an ankle surgery in April 2023, Woods has decided to play at the Hero World Challenge. Throughout his prolonged hiatus, his career was threatened by the questions on his retirement.

As Woods is set to meet the greens again, those questions have left the golf realm. Although another mystery is now surrounding his return – who will be caddying for Tiger Woods at the Hero World Challenge?

Is Charlie Woods the only choice for being Tiger Woods’ caddie?

The simple and straight answer to the question is: there is a chance of Charlie Woods carrying his father’s bag for the Hero World Challenge. Because as Woods underwent his plantar fasciitis surgery and a break thereafter, he had to bid goodbye to his old caddie, Joe LaCava.

Charlie Tiger

Hence, LaCava moved onto the bag of World No.5, Patrick Cantlay. Now, Tiger Woods stands without any bag man. Although the legendary golfer might not need as much assistance from his caddie, he will still require a caddy to support him on the greens.

And as per the golf world, his son will be the one carrying his clubs. Charlie Woods might be filling the berth of Woods’ caddie. Tiger Woods has been caddying for Charlie throughout his amateur career. Jr. Woods might have gotten a hang of it now and so speculations have risen, with people expecting the duo to reverse roles in Albany.

Additionally, Woods has always expressed his joy in playing alongside Charlie. He might choose Charlie to be by his side for the challenge. The duo will then make their appearance the next week of the challenge at the annual PNC Championship in the Bahamas.

Legendary father-son duo returns to Orlando

While Tiger Woods was recovering from his surgery, the talk of retirement had threatened his legendary career. However, he has now announced his appearance at two events and shattered the baseless rumors. After the stint at the Hero World Challenge, Woods will be playing at the PNC Championship with his son.

Woods said, “It is an amazing gift to be able to share my love of golf with Charlie and we genuinely do look forward to playing in the PNC Championship all year.” The duo will be making their third appearance and contending to win the tournament for the first time.

At least 20 pairs of golfers will be teeing it up at the Tiburon Ritz Carlton Golf Club from December 14-17 this year. The newest pair joining the event is Steve Stricker and his daughter Izzi. The 2022 PNC champion John Daly and his son John Daly II will also be defending their title. Who do you think will win the PNC Championship 2023?

Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods have been rewarded in the PGA Tour’s Playеr Impact Program (PIP), pockеting a whopping $15 and $12 million in bonus monеy respectively. But whilе thе two veterans cеlеbratеd the triumph, some of their fеllow PGA Tour pros were not so happy.

Those who did not win the bonus fеlt that McIlroy and Woods were unfairly rеwardеd by thе controvеrsial PIP. The program distributеs $100 million among thе Top 20 playеrs of the PGAT who gеnеratе thе most fan and sponsor еngagеmеnt.

Unvеiling Hiddеn Agеnda and Digital Contеnt Ownеrship

One of thе most vocal critics of thе PIP is Phil Mickеlson, who is also considered Tiger Woods’ rival. Alan Shipnuck, a vеtеran golf writеr, has authored a book titled, ‘Phil: The Rip-Roaring (and Unauthorized!) Biography of Golf’s Most Colorful Superstar’. The book еxposеs thе innеr workings and hiddеn agеnda bеhind thе PIP.

phil Mickelson

Mickеlson quеstionеd thе lеgality and thе morality of thе PGA Tour’s actions, and callеd thеm grееdy and еgotistical.

PGA Tour Govеrnancе Undеr Scrutiny

It has already caused a stir in golf and has sparkеd a dеbatе about thе PIP and thе PGA Tour’s govеrnancе. Some playеrs, such as Nathan Lashlеy, have also raised questions on the program. Lashley said that it fеlt likе a “kick in thе face” whеn hе saw that Woods and McIlroy, who hardly playеd in 2021 and 2022, nabbеd millions in PIP monеy, whilе hе and othеr loyalists who playеd full schеdulеs got nothing.

However, the controvеrsy is unlikеly to diе down anytimе soon, as thе PGA Tour faces incrеasing challеngеs and prеssurеs from thе PGL and othеr еntitiеs that sееk to disrupt thе golf landscapе. Thе PIP, which was mеant to bе a solution, may turn out to be a problеm, as it crеatеs divisions and tеnsions among thе playеrs and thе fans. However, thе question is, who will havе thе final say on thе futurе of golf: thе PGA Tour, thе PIP, or thе playеrs?

Tiger Woods is finally making a comeback at Albany in the Bahamas. After a long period of seclusion due to his injuries, the golf legend will be swinging his club in the land of the Commonwealth. With that, a piece of his advice gets the spotlight in the golf world.

While golf is a game of golf swings, it is a natural inclination to get swayed by the fancy swings, but for the game, there are other aspects more important than swings, and Woods demonstrated exactly the right way to go about it. So, what is the golf GOAT’s right way of playing golf?

Tiger Woods Crucial Piece of Age-old Advice

Tiger Woods

The greatest golfer of all time had shared a piece of advice that was well-received by the golf community fourteen years ago. This very piece of advice holds power even to this day. In an interview session, he talked about how golf doesn’t have a specific way to play. He also appreciated every golfer’s way of playing.

Added to that, he talked about the most beautiful part of golf, which is that it can be played in several ways; whatever works for the golfer is the best. He went on to talk about how different body parts can be utilized. “You can play it with hands. You can play it with all body. You can play anywhere in between. … We all have our own finger print. You have to find a system that works best for you.”

Lastly, he ended the conversation with, “Whatever makes your game better, do it. If you hit the ball better and hit it [more consistently], do it”

Wise words indeed! Tiger Woods has inspired a generation of budding golfers, and he will continue to do so for generations to come. At the year’s end, Woods will be participating in two back-to-back tournaments. He has finally recovered from the injuries in his right leg that led him to withdraw from the Masters Tournament back in April. The aggravated plantar fasciitis during the third round even made the Hall of Famer undergo subtalar fusion surgery later. But as per recent reports, Woods is healthy, and he is practicing hard for his comeback.

He will make a return in his own event, the Hero World Challenge, scheduled to be played from November 30 to December 3. Last week, he confirmed his participation as the 20th player on the field. After that, he will also be joining his son Charlie Woods at the PNC Championship, hoping to finally grab a win after his 2021 close call, where the duo ended up losing to John Daly and his son. Thus, Woods is evidently running a tough schedule, and his old advice might work wonders for him.

It is Tiger Woods and his fans’ era! After months of staying silent, the golfer is feeding his well-wishers nothing but great updates back-to-back. Following his comeback news a few days ago, new reports reveal that the 47-year-old will team up with his son, Charlie Woods, at the much anticipated PNC Championship.

The unofficial PGA Tour Champions event is already popular in the golf community as many former major champions and their family members tee up for it. However, with the 15-time major champion and his golf prodigy son being a part of it, the event’s popularity will escalate to no limits.

Notably, it is not the first time the Woods-duo has competed at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club, Orlando against other teams. However, despite being the fan favorites, the pair has never won the title. With Tiger recovering from his accident and Charlie frequently playing in junior golf events, that is a possibility no one can rule it out easily.

Tiger wood & Charlie wood

“It is an amazing gift to be able to share my love of golf with Charlie,” Woods Sr. said after announcing the news. “We genuinely do look forward to playing in the PNC Championship all years,” he added. It is a much-known fact that he is a good dad to son Charlie and daughter Sam. For this reason, he considers this event close to his heart. “Competing together,” he further added, “against a field of so many golfing greats and their families, is so special.”

All the possible threats for Charlie and Tiger Woods at the Orlando golf course

The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club will witness 20 major champions and their one family member compete as a team from December 14 to 17. From defending champions Vijay Singh and his son Qass to Steve Stricker, who has won 6 times on the Senior Tour this year, including a major, and his state champion daughter Izzie are all part of the 2023 field

John Daly and his son John Daly II, LPGA GOAT Annika Sorenstam and her son Will McGee, Nelly Korda and her dad Petr Korda… the list of roadblocks for Tiger and Charlie goes on. Even Justin Thomas and his dad, Mike, who are like a second family to the Woods’, would also want to win a PNC Championship belt this year as well

Tiger Woods and his 14-year-old son, Charlie will tee off together at this year’s PNC Championship. The duo confirmed their participation at the 36-hole event after months of speculation. With this, the father-son duo will now compete in the event for the fourth consecutive year.

The 2023 PNC Championship will be played at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando, Florida from December 16-17. The event, which features major championship members and their relatives, is now the only event that Tiger hasn’t missed in the last three years. Despite being sidelined by injuries, the ace golfer has found a way to play alongside his son each year.

Charlie Tiger

Opening up on the event, Tiger Woods said in a statement released by the tournament:

Tiger and Charlie will go up against several big player-relative duos at the event. The Woods duo will take on the likes of Lee Trevino, Padraig Harrington, Justin Thomas, John Daly, Vijay Singh, Nelly Korda, Annika Sorenstam and Tom Lehman in Florida.

It is noteworthy that Tiger is also scheduled to play in the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas next week. Having missed most of the past two seasons due to injuries to his lower right leg and foot sustained from the infamous February 2021 car crash, it’ll be interesting to see how the PGA Tour legend fares at the competitive events.

While golfers make history on the golf course, the team and individuals behind the scenes make sure that the players hit the perfect shit which stars in the news. On Essentially Sports’ FanCast Exclusive, the Iconic golf coach, Pete Cowen, shares tits and bits about making a major winner.

America’s Favorite Video Today

Pete Cowen has made legendary golfers like Rory McIlroy, Brooks Koepka, Sergio Garcia, and many more in his decade-long career. Cowen knows what makes and breaks a player. Following the topic of Rory McIlroy’s major championship drought, Cowen highlighted the chances of Tiger Woods clinching another major victory.

Pete Cowen’s claims Tiger Woods can still do it at the age of 50

Essentially Sports Noah Slack asked the legendary golfer about when will McIlroy end his 10-year drought. McIlroy won his last major in 2012 at the Open Championship. Since then, the 4x major winner has always been a few steps away from grabbing another win. Slack used the example of Tiger Woods, as he too won his 15th major after 10 winless years.

“He is one of the best players in the world.” However, McIlroy now has a tough competition, Brooks Koepka. As Cowen said, “Brooks has won five majors in the last six years, since 17. So all of a sudden Rory’s got players that are major winners.” McIlroy is trying his very best.

Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods

Koepka, even being a LIV golfer, has an exemption for the majors for the next five years. Speaking on the topic of major winners, Cowen dug up Phil Mickelson winning his last major at the age of 50 and said, “If Mickelson can win at 50 then Tiger Woods can win at 50.” Woods is nearing 50 and might make his comeback at the Augusta National next year.

Cowen describes the change success brings in players

Noah Slack asked Cowen about the nature of McIlroy, off the course as he has been in the news for raging and taking a strong stance against the LIV defectors. Cowen dedicated McIlroy’s caddie and best friend, Harry Diamond, to keeping in check and calming him behind the scenes. However, Cowen did confess the stark difference between young Rory and McIlroy at present. Cowen said, “The problem is, if you give a 20-year-old $50 million, are they gonna change? Of course, they change.”

Moreover, Cowen sort of warned the fans and said, “Admire your heroes from the far because when you get close to them, they surely disappoint you.”  Cowen was speaking in the general sense of the fascination of the fans with their inspiration, particularly for McIlroy. Have you ever been disheartened with your hero? And do you believe Tiger Woods will win another major?

Tiger Woods draws closer to PGA Tour return but his son Charlie Woods struggles to get things going in latest event.

Tiger Woods appears to be striding towards an imminent

PGA Tour return after new video footage emerged of him walking purposefully alongside his young cub Charlie Woods at the Notah Begay III Invitational on Sunday.

Woods, 47, has been out of competitive action due to recovering from ankle surgery ever since after The Masters in April 2022.

But the signs certainly look good for a return after watching Woods striding around the course with Charlie seemingly without much anguish or pain.

Scroll below to watch the latest video of Woods…

Woods has been caddying for Charlie, 14, in the three-day Notah Begay III Invitational at Koasati Pines in Louisiana.

Charlie qualified for this tournament after posting a superb round of 66 at the Last Chance Regional.

But he has somewhat struggled after two days in the tournament itself following rounds of 73 and 74.

That sees Charlie Woods lie at 5-over par in a tie for 23rd ahead of Monday’s final round.

It is believed Woods could now be in contention for a return at his annual Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas at the end of this month.

Should he not be able to make that in time, there is hope he will be teeing it up alongside Charlie in the father-son PNC Championship just before Christmas.

Eight-time PGA Tour winner and former Open champion Stewart Cink, 50, recently told Golfweek that Woods is “in go-mode for something”.

Woods currently has 82 PGA Tour wins which is tied for the most ever alongside late great Sam Snead.
