Following a disappointing 10-over 82 on Day 3 of the Masters, Tiger Woods turned to a new swing coach before his 100th career round at Augusta on Sunday: His 15-year-old son Charlie.

With Tiger in his Sunday red and Charlie adorned in his father’s new clothing line, it was the younger Woods who appeared to be dispensing the advice at the Augusta driving range. Charlie is seen taking a few slow swings for the benefit of his father, who was also chatting with caddie Lance Bennett.

‘Seeing Charlie Woods on the range giving his old man a lesson,’ 2008 Masters winner Trevor Immelman wrote on X. ‘So cool!’

Tiger is coming off a rough outing on Saturday.

He started the day 1 over and seven shots off the lead, and feeling like he was capable of making a run at Scottie Scheffler, Bryson DeChambeau and the rest of the leaders. But that was before eight bogeys and two double-bogeys, offset by just a pair of birdies, left the 48-year-old Woods at the bottom of the leaderboard rather than the top.

It was only the fifth round Woods has shot in the 80s as a professional, and only the third in a major. He shot an 80 in the first round of the 2005 U.S. Open at Chambers Bay and an 81 in the third round of the 2002 British Open at Muirfield.

AUGUSTA, Ga. — If Saturday was a day to forget at the 2024 Masters for Tiger Woods, Sunday already looks to be a bit more inspiring thanks to the friendly face who accompanied the five-time green jacket winner to the practice range ahead of the final round.

Tiger’s 14-year-old son, Charlie Woods, watched his father warm-up ahead of a 9:35 a.m. tee time with amateur Neal Shipley. Charlie stood by has Tiger hit balls, and even appeared to offers a few tips to his dad as he worked his way through his irons.

Nothing went right for Tiger during his third round, when Woods struggled with his swing and the effects of his still balky back. Woods made eight bogeys and two double bogeys en route to a 10-over 82, the highest score he had ever shot in 99 competition rounds at Augusta National. He ended the day at 11 over for the tournament, 18 shots off the lead in a tie for 52nd.

Woods was obviously frustrated with his performance, having made the cut the previous day with four shots to spare, setting the Masters record for most consecutive cuts made in tournament history at 24.

“The fact that I was not hitting it very good or putting well. I didn’t have a very good warmup session, and I kept it going all day today,” Woods said. “Just hit the ball in all the places that I know I shouldn’t hit it.”

Here’s hoping that Charlie might have gotten in a better spot as he tees off on Sunday.

Tiger Woods had a familiar face with him on the range at the 2024 Masters on Sunday.

The five-time winner of the green jacket was joined by his son, 15-year-old Charlie Woods, as he prepared for his final round of the first men’s major championship of the year at Augusta National Golf Club.

Charlie was rocking some red and black Nike’s to match his old man’s signature red shirt and black pants, although Tiger is of course donning his new Sun Day Red brand after his split with Nike.

Tiger and Charlie at the Masters

Tiger Woods might have another reason to be more hopeful at Augusta National. Charlie Woods, his 15-year-old teenage son, reportedly touched down in Georgia on Friday, Adam Stanley of SportsNet tweeted. Woods Jr. was expected to play with Tiger Woods at the par-3 contest. Although that didn’t happen, the young prodigy took time out to cheer for his pop from outside the ropes.

Interestingly, five years ago, this was the very course where Charlie Woods understood what golf meant to his parents. And what his father meant to golf fans. And this April, Woods made his 24th straight cut at the Masters. To put things into perspective, 17 players in today’s field were not even born when Woods last missed the cut at Augusta National.

For the five-time Masters champion, though, the 24th cut doesn’t mean anything more than an opportunity to needle his dad-on-course, Fred Couples. Eyes firmly set on the silver replica of Augusta Clubhouse, Tiger Woods said, he still hopes to be in contention on Sunday.

“It means I have a chance going into the weekend. I’m here. I have a chance to win the golf tournament. I’m only eight back as of right now. I don’t think anyone is going to run off and hide right now, but it’s really bunched.”

Undoubtedly, the five-time Masters champion is in much better shape than he was at the Genesis Invitational. Tiger Woods is seventh in Strokes Gained: Around the Greens as of now. The veteran golfer gained 0.97 shots per round compared to the field. To top that, the 48-year-old has been crushing 300-yard drives as well.

Moreover, Woods has reached 21 of 40 greens in regulation as of early Saturday. Yesterday, the 48-year-old was the second-best player in the field in strokes gained around the greens and ninth-best in SG: total. Is another famous hug on the offing? Tiger Woods is a believer, and Charlie’s presence will strengthen his hopes more. But that opportunity, though, could’ve come earlier.

Tiger Woods asked Charlie to come earlier. He didn’t.

Woods and Charlie played together at the 2023 PNC Championship. And the veteran Woods wanted to bring his son to ANGC last week. The teenager passed on the opportunity. Woods came to scout the greens and played a few practice rounds with Justin Thomas and the chairman, Fred Ridley, instead.

We haven’t played in a couple years now. I came up here last weekend. He wanted to be at home. So I came up here and got a chance to play with the chairman, Rob, and JT, and we had just an absolute blast,” the veteran golfer said.

But Woods did admit that if Charlie indeed came here some other day—perhaps next year—he had to play at the same tee as his father and his colleagues. No membership tee privileges for the youngster now that he hits past his 15-time Major Champion pop. Charlie Woods tried his luck at the Cognizant Classic pre-qualifier but crashed out after shooting 86.

What makes Masters so special? It is a long list but one of the most crucial reasons is the rich legacy and the beautiful traditions the event is steeped in. Even the family members of the golfers get to celebrate the game of golf at the Augusta National.

However, it appears that this year, Tiger Woods might take part in the celebration without his family members by his side. Mr. T has often taken on the role of caddie for his son, but will Charlie Woods be able to do the same for his old man this Wednesday?

Will Charlie Woods be seen next to Tiger Woods on the Augusta greens?

Another tiny tradition was upheld at the Sunday practice session, where all the past champions get the privilege to invite one of the guests on the course and enjoy a round of golf with them. Snippets from the course were also shared on @TheMasters — the official X handle of Masters. Though on the guest list, Mr.T‘s little cub was nowhere to be seen.

Woods was spotted with his caddie, Lance Bennett, and accompanying him was Rob McNamara, the official vice president of Woods’ business, TGR Ventures, and, unofficially, a second set of eyes for his golf swing. As posted by the TWLegion on their official X (formerly Twitter) account.

They wrote, “Tiger chipped and put around Augusta this afternoon alongside caddie Lance Bennett and close confidante Rob McNamara, taking just his wedges and putter, according to @BobHarig”. Charlie Woods’s absences have also given rise to further speculation that he might not be able to attend the entire Masters Championship and, in the process, miss the most anticipated Par-3 contest before D-day.

This was a tradition that was first held at the 1960 tournament. It is led in a single round on a nine-hole, par-27 course in the northeast corner of the Augusta National course. The former champions get the opportunity to invite their family members to take charge of their bags and give them access to putt a few balls on their behalf too!

Even though both his kids, Sam and Charlie, might not be next to Woods this year. The Woods kids have already participated in the Par-3 contest. On April 8, 2015, Woods was on his golf and fatherly duties while the kids were on their caddie duties on the Augusta greens,

Tiger Woods enjoyed the Par-3 contest in 2015

The 15-time major winner had the time of his life playing the par-3 contest for the first time after becoming a father. His daughter Sam Woods was 7 years old, and Charlie Woods was 6, and they followed him through the greens toting his clubs. Woods even said, “These were memories for a lifetime.”

As he headed to the 9th hole, he handed his putter to Charlie, motioning him to finish the round. Although Charlie refused to take the club, Sam delightfully volunteered. They both even wore the caddie outfits, Charlie carrying three clubs in his hands, and Sam taking hold of the putter. Woods was indeed the happiest man on the greens that day, doing the two things he enjoyed: golfing and being a father!

A total of 56 men have won the Masters since the tournament was established in 1934, with 39 of those champions coming from the United States.

The first major of the year is considered by many fans as the biggest tournament in golf thanks to the winner receiving the iconic green jacket. It’s also held at the same venue, Augusta National in Georgia, each year.

No one has won the Masters more than Jack Nicklaus, who is a six-time champion (1963, 1965, 1966, 1972, 1975, 1986). Nicklaus won his final title at Augusta at the age of 46, making him the oldest winner of the tournament. He is widely regarded as the greatest golfer of all time, with a record 18 major wins.

Yet if Nicklaus is the greatest, there’s no doubt who stands right behind him in golf’s pantheon of greats. Tiger Woods is a 15-time major champion and has won five times at the Masters (1997, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2019).

Woods’ first title was one of the most historic in the tournament’s history, as he became the youngest player to win it – aged just 21. He was also the first non-white player to be victorious at Augusta, and his winning margin of 12 shots remains a record today.

Woods made even more history with his triumph in 2019, as it ended his 11-year wait for a major title. By that point, many fans thought Woods’ chance to be a major winner again had been and gone due to his dreadful luck with injuries. Yet the iconic player, who is part of the field this year, defied the odds to claim victory.

Nicklaus and Woods are the only two players to win the Masters five or more times, but there are six other players with three or more wins to their name. Arnold Palmer (1958, 1960, 1962, 1964), Jimmy Demaret (1940, 1947, 1950), Sam Snead (1949, 1952, 1954), Gary Player (1961, 1974, 1978), Nick Faldo (1989, 1990, 1996) and Phil Mickelson (2004, 2006, 2010) are all rightly regarded as legends of Augusta.

The other nine multiple champions are Horton Smith (1934, 1936), Byron Nelson (1937, 1942), Ben Hogan (1951, 1953), Tom Watson (1977, 1981), Seve Ballesteros (1980, 1983), Bernhard Langer (1985, 1993), Ben Crenshaw (1984, 1995), Jose Maria Olazabal (1994, 1999) and Bubba Watson (2012, 2014).

Americans dominated the Masters during the first 45 years of the competition. In fact, the only non-American to win at Augusta during this time was Player. Yet Ballesteros’ victory in 1980 paved the way for Europeans to win the Masters. The likes of Sandy Lyle (1988), Ian Woosnam (1991), Danny Willett (2016) and Sergio Garcia (2017) have enjoyed success at Augusta since Ballesteros became a household name.

Vijay Singh became the first player from South Asia to win the Masters in 2000, while Angel Cabrera became South America’s first winner at Augusta in 2009. More recently, Hideki Matsuyama became the first men’s Japanese player to win a major with his triumph at the Masters three years ago.

The defending champion is Jon Rahm, who finished four shots ahead of Brooks Koepka and Phil Mickelson last time out. Rahm returned to Augusta this year as a LIV Golf member following his £450million move from the PGA Tour last December.

He is one of eight Masters winners now playing on the Saudi-backed circuit, with Mickelson, Garcia, Bubba Watson, Dustin Johnson, Patrick Reed and Charl Schwartzel being the others. Here is the full list of previous Masters winners…

Tiger Woods is a proud father as he gets ready to compete alongside his son Charlie in an Orlando, FL golf tournament on Saturday.

Tiger, 47, and Charlie, 14, hit the golf course on Friday morning for a practice run while preparing for the PNC Championship’s Pro-Am event at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club.

And in a video shared by the PGA Tour’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, the legendary golfer is seen admiring his son’s skills during their morning practice.

After Charlie’s impressive shot, Tiger decided the duo would end their warmup round on a high note.

“We’re ending on that one right there. That was f—ing nasty,” Tiger said in the video.

According to Golf Digest, Tiger couldn’t stop smiling while practicing with his son, who he welcomed with ex-wife Elin Nordegren in 2009, and the duo enjoyed catching up with some of the golfer’s old friends on the course during their morning outing.

The outlet reported that Tiger exchanged “bear hugs” with Annika Sorenstam, Steve Stricker and Mark O’Meara while out with Charlie, and the group’s spirits were high during the reunions.

Charlie and Tiger will face Justin Thomas and his father Mike in the first two rounds of the tournament, teeing off at 8:22 a.m. on Saturday in Orlando, Florida.

This will mark the fourth year Charlie and Tiger have faced the Thomases, and in 2021, Tiger said the two father-son duos “have become so close that I think Charlie’s like Justin’s little brother he never had,” in an interview with the PGA.

“And Justin has become the little brother I never had,” Woods added at the time.

And when Justin and Mike won the competition in 2020, they enjoyed a petty victory lap over Charlie and Tiger. According to the PGA, the Thomases wore their victory belts over to Tiger’s home for Christmas dinner.

“We enjoyed that,” Justin said at the time, per the PGA. “Until they get that belt and we don’t, I know that we have the forever bragging rights for the time being.”

In November, Charlie competed in his first-ever high school state golf tournament, and helped lead the Palm Beach Gardens team to their fourth state title.

After a competition earlier this year in which Tiger served as a caddy for his son, Charlie said in a post round interview that it was “great” to have his father supporting him on the golf course.

“We just stay in our own little world,” he said about his dad joining him.

“We take it one shot at a time,” Charlie continued, adding that his dad “puts me in my place” from time to time. “I’ll talk about the next tee shot and he’s like, ‘No. This is the shot we’re going to focus on. Focus up. This is what we’re gonna do.’ ”

Tiger Woods has told his son, Charlie, he will no longer be allowed to tee off from the members tees at the Masters after confessing the 15-year-old now hits the ball longer than him.

Charlie is hoping to emulate his dad’s career and play golf for a living and has already competed in a PGA qualifier. And in fact his progression is so far along that he’s now out-driving his dad.

Woods, one of the most competitive sportsmen in history, is reluctant to let his son get an easy ride and has now implemented a strict rule for when they next play at Augusta National, home of the Masters.

“We haven’t played in a couple years now. I came up here last weekend,” replied Woods when asked if he had played the course recently with Charlie. “He wanted to be at home. So I came up here, and got a chance to play with the chairman and Rob and JT, and we had just an absolute blast.

“I would like to, obviously, play a little bit more up here with him and to share the experiences. Especially now that he’s got a little bit longer so he hits it past me. So I think that the days of playing from the members tees are over. He’s got to come back there with us.”

Charlie missed out on the chance to play in his first PGA Tour event after recording a disastrous 16-over round at Lost Lake. The teenager had a nightmare on the par-four seventh in particular, scoring a 12.

But the teenager enjoyed happier times more recently when dad Tiger and mum Elin Nordegren celebrated his state championship in Florida. Charlie received a ring and a medal after The Benjamin School won the Class 1A state golf championship.

Tiger caddied for Charlie at the PNC Championship pro-am in December at the Ritz-Carlton golf course and praised his son’s game then. “His speed has gone dramatically up this year,” he said.

On passing on advice and his son leaning on Tiger for tips, he added: “I enjoyed caddying for him and being there with him, just to talk through shots with him and have him understand what I would see or … the thought process I would have going through. He would bounce things off of me, and (I would) give him my take on certain things.”

Tiger will be playing for his sixth green jacket when he tees off on Thursday. It will only be his second event of the year after withdrawing from The Genesis Invitation in February. The 48-year-old is still making his way back to full fitness after undergoing ankle fusion surgery last year.

Woods even said, “These were memories for a lifetime.

After Tiger Woods attends the Champions dinner on Tuesday night with Jon Rahm’s Spanish dinner, he will be preparing for the next big ceremony of the 2024 Masters. That is the Par-3 Contest. The ceremony was started in 1960 and it has always been held on a Wednesday since then.

The decades-old tradition of the men’s first major witnesses families coming together to enjoy the contest without any pressure. Comparatively, it is the day when the golfers are more relaxed before the official game follows. So, will Woods be able to enjoy the course with his son, Charlie Woods, on his bag? The simple answer is yes. The beloved event gets the children, grandchildren, wives or girlfriends, nieces and nephews to caddie for their golfers.

Hence, Charlie Woods may become a looper for Mr. T. Moreover, he may even take his first shot on the Par-3 nine holes in Augusta National. Or there are chances of seeing Woods’s daughter, Sam Woods, caddie for him, as she did last year at the PNC Championship. Either of his kids may take up the caddying duties as they did in 2015 on the 9-hole course behind the 10th tee in Augusta National.

The course has holes ranging from 99 to 155 yards shuffled on the northeast side of the golf course, with DeSoto Spring Pond and Ike’s Pond situated there to be played over by the pros. If you could not be one of the patrons at the Augusta Nationa to watch the contest, here’s how you can watch it from the comfort of your home.

How to watch the Par-3 Contest?

The Par-3 Contest will start on April 10th at noon, with the families of all the pros and some of the former champions donning the traditional white jumpsuit of the Masters. Over the course, the players will not be asked to keep a score as their families will be allowed to do the occasional drive, chip, or putt. However, while the patrons in Augusta National will watch it live, the ones at home can only watch it after a few hours.

The event action will be streamed by the Masters on Masters.com starting at 2:00 p.m. So set up your reminders to watch the golfers play a round of golf with their families and enjoy the family moments. One winner will be announced by the end of the 9-hole and he will receive an engraved crystal bowl and probably the historical curse. Funnily enough, no golfer has gone on to win the Masters after winning the Par-3 Contest. So, that tradition may follow this year as well or the spell might break. Who knows?
