Tiger Woods is already proud of his son Charlie’s mannerisms as he swings a golf club inhis first attempt to quaify for the PGA Tour. Charlie was trying to break his father’s personal record of qualifying at the age of 16. It happened at the Nissan Los Angeles Open back in 1992 as an amateur. By then, Tiger had already won the first of three junior amateur tournaments. Charlie is only one year younger than that and he just played at Lost Lake Golf Club in Hobe Sound, FL. This was one of the Cognizant Classic’s four different 18-hole pre-qualifying tournaments on Thursday morning. The young Woods had the chance to qualify to his first PGA Tour tournament if he played well and finished in the top five.

On Thursday, Charlie Woods finished at +16, which is not at all a great score. His round did include a 12 on the Par-4 seventh. Woods still has chances to qualify but they are not great. Despite making the Tour as a youth at 16, Tiger Woods didn’t join the majors until he was 20 years old. This means that at 15, Charlie Woods still has plenty of time in order to break his father’s PR and qualify for the first time. This weekend won’t be possible, but the young Woods is not in a hurry. If he is just as precocious as his father playing golf, that record could already be in the bag.

Charlie Woods is not using Tiger’s new brand

Tiger Woods recently ended a decades-long partnership with Nike and recently launched his golfing equipment and apparel brand. One would think Charlie Woods would wear his father’s clothing but he decided to wear something different. During his presentation, son Charlie wore Greyson Clothiers from the neck down. At the PNC Championship, Charlie wore the same brand. On his head, he was wearing a Titleist hat. This hat choice is particularly interesting because Tiger Woods and Titleist parted ways in a not-so-amiccable manner back in the year 2000.Tig

Tiger Woods’ two kids are his biggest fans — on and off the course!

The golf champion, who shares Sam Alexis, 16, and Charlie Axel, 14, with ex-wife Elin Nordegren, has opened up in the past about the importance of fatherhood and having his kids by his side.

Back in 2015, when both kids were able to join their dad for his showing at the Masters Tournament, Tiger said having them there was a “full circle moment.”

“This tournament means so much to me in so many different ways,” he said at a news conference per ESPN. “We all know what happened in ’97 with my dad’s health, and he was pronounced, well, he was dead at one point earlier that year; came back, and then came here and I won the Masters. To now have come full circle and to have a chance to have my kids out there and be able to share that with them, it’s special.”

From being little ones on the sidelines, to playing golf right alongside him, here are some of the sweetest moments shared between Tiger and his two kids.

Bring It In

Tiger Woods shared a sweet moment with his two little ones Sam and Charlie at the 2015 Masters Tournament in Augusta, Georgia. Sam complemented her dad’s hot pink polo in one of her own while her little bro sported a bright orange hoodie.

Proud Dad

Sam looked as cute as can be in her dad’s arms on the sidelines of a Stanford Cardinal football game in 2009 — where Tiger, an alumnus, was serving as an honorary captain.

Two Cheers!

Tiger and his son were truly in sync as they cheered on Rafael Nadal from the stands of the 2019 US Open in N.Y.C.

Tennis Fans

And Charlie isn’t the only one who has enjoyed some tennis alongside Dad. In 2015, Sam and Tiger took their seats in Nadal’s box at the US Open at USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center to watch the star face off against Fabio Fognini.

Being Tiger Woods‘ son bestowed Charlie Woods with popularity. But the privilege had demerits of its own. A lot of social media coverage and sometimes dealing with unruly fans could take a toll on a young golfer. Most importantly, expecting little Woods to follow in his father’s footsteps or repeat such golf history had been a lot to ask for.

Recently, rowdy fans troubled Charlie in a pre-qualifying round at the Palm Beaches. The 15-year-old shot 86 in the 18-hole event in a failed attempt to qualify for the Cognizant Classic. During the qualifying tournament, he was bothered a lot by the intervening crowd. Let’s take a look at what happened at the venue.

Charlie Woods got bothered in a pre-qualifying round

The PGA Tour sent a Getty Images photographer to cover Charlie Woods right from the moment he started playing at Palm Beaches. This could be quite distracting for a teenager like him who was trying to focus. As per reports, a lot of fans gathered at the pre-qualifier. Moreover, it was unlikely to see such a crowd at events like this, and it can be too much to deal with. The caricatures did not stop there; men were hiding behind the bushes to grab a drive and people were going too close to the Woods Jr. due to the fewer ropes in the pre-qualifiers. Spectators were also seen arguing with the official when they were asked to be behind the line.

All these mounted up to a terrifying moment. A fan argued to get a book signed by Tiger Woods’ son. Thus, it is quite understandable that the instances were going overboard for a teenager. Somebody who was focusing on getting into the PGA Tour should not have these kind of diversions.

Tiger Woods has left a legacy behind him. It is natural that if his son makes a career in the same sport the latter will be hyped. Yet, everything should have a limit as far as the game of golf is concerned. The father-son duo was last seen playing at the 2023 PNC Championship, where they landed in a T5 position. As far as the current pre-qualifier week was concerned, the authorities were alerted on the same and assured better security for the next time.

But it’s part and parcel of golf that little Charlie Woods has to bear with all this attention being Tiger Woods’s son. Most specifically, when he’s playing on the PGA Tour, people will try to get all the first-hand information about Woods’ blood.

Paige Spiranac also shared a post on X (formerly Twitter) about letting Woods Jr. focus on his game. She reasoned that the game of golf is tough and that Charlie should be allowed to work on his game without media coverage.

Well, being Tiger Woods’ son or not, for any 15-year-old golfer, it is very tough to cope with these kinds of attention from the media. Thus, if Charlie has to follow in the footsteps of his father, he will have to learn to ignore these distractions. Now,  it is to see how he deals with all of that. But definitely, he’ll learn to cope with all that in time.

Tiger Woods’ son, Charlie, is certainly growing up as he prepares to become a professional golfer but another indicator happened in a different way as a grandmother attempted to set him up on a date with her granddaughter.

The teenager is currently competing in a pre-qualifying round for the Cognizant Classic and shot 16-over 86 at the Lost Lake Golf Club in Florida, not far away from where his father regularly practices in Jupiter, FL.

It’s believed that the senior woman pulled her granddaughter out of school so they could attend the golf event in the hope that he would “notice her” and become enamored at first sight and take her out on a date.

How did the fans interrupt him?

But as Woods attempted to qualify for his first ever PGA Tour event, a crowd member disrupted his flow. In fact, the crowd regularly interrupted him even though his father wasn’t present, as everyone ones to get a big closer to Tiger Woods.

To summarise how the atmosphere was, as he walked off from a hole, he said to his caddie, Jacob “JJ” Kutner, “That was some round, huh?”

One fan interrupted him by rushing to him with a pen and with a copy of How I Play Golf, the book written by his father, to get it signed but an official dismissed the request to do so.

Nonetheless, he should qualify for any PGA Tour pre-qualifier as Charlie Woods holds a +3 handicap index with the Florida State Golf Association although he didn’t manage to do so this time with the 50 crowd members no doubt putting him off.

That means it hasn’t been a good week for the Woods’ as his father pulled out of the Genesis Invitational recently due to suffering from flu-like symptoms and an undisclosed illness as he attempts to return to the big time.

Tiger Woods’ son, Charlie Woods, will not advance to the 2024 Cognizant Classic tournament at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

Charlie, 15, competed in the pre-qualifying event at Lost Lake Golf Club in Hobe Sound on Thursday morning. But the son of the 82-time PGA Tour winner struggled from the start, according to multiple outlets, including the Associated Press and ESPN.

Tiger, 48, was not in attendance, according to the Palm Beach Post, despite being a recurring caddy for his son. Instead, Charlie was accompanied by his mother, Elin Nordegren, while Palm Beach Gardens High golfer Jacob “J.J.” Kutner caddied for him.

Charlie, who shot 16-over 86 on Thursday, also struggled with overzealous fans and shaky security while on the course.

The Post reported that “more than 50 fans” followed Charlie as he moved through the course after they realized there were “no ropes to bar them” from getting close to him. When tournament officials made “repeated requests” to fans to stay on the cart path, the attendees ignored them.

One fan, according to the outlet, even asked the official, “Who are you? The fire marshal?” Meanwhile, another admitted to pulling her granddaughter out of school with the intention of having her get Charlie’s attention.

The Post also reported that Charlie was approached by another eager fan, equipped with a pen and a copy of Tiger’s book, How I Play Golf, hoping that he would sign it.

A tournament official told the fan that asking players to sign autographs wasn’t allowed, to which the fan “made a commotion” and yelled, “I live here,” according to the outlet. And when Charlie hit a ball out of bounds, several fans were apparently looking in the bushes for the ball to serve as a keepsake.

Charlie’s setback on Thursday isn’t necessarily a reflection of his skill level. Tiger’s son saw success in November when he competed in his first-ever high school state golf tournament, and helped lead the Palm Beach Gardens team to their fourth state title.

Charlie has previously competed with his dad in the two-player PNC Championship, which features teams comprised of a major champion and a family member. In 2021, Tiger and Charlie finished second in the event, ESPN reported.

After a competition last year in which Tiger served as a caddy for his son, Charlie said in a post-round interview that it was “great” to have his father supporting him on the golf course. “We just stay in our own little world,” he said about his dad joining him.

“We take it one shot at a time,” Charlie continued, adding that his dad “puts me in my place” from time to time. “I’ll talk about the next tee shot and he’s like, ‘No. This is the shot we’re going to focus on. Focus up. This is what we’re gonna do.’ ”

In addition to Charlie, Tiger shares daughter Sam Alexis, 16, with his ex-wife, Nordegren.

Charlie Woods shot 86 as he failed to make it through pre-qualifying for the PGA Tour’s Cognizant Classic in the Palm Beaches; Charlie and Tiger have played in last four editions of the father-and-son PNC Championship together

Charlie Woods’ hopes of competing in the PGA Tour’s Cognizant Classic ended as Tiger Woods’ 15-year-old son failed to advance from a pre-qualifying event in Florida on Thursday.

Woods went out with the early starters and carded a 16-over 86 at Lost Lake Golf Club, which was one of the four pre-qualifying sites.

After making par on the opening hole and then a double-bogey seven on the par-five fifth, it was the seventh which would prove most costly, where the teenager made a 12.

Although he did not produce a birdie, Woods managed 11 pars in total, including a run from the eighth to 13th as well as the final two holes to finish on 86.

Woods played alongside Olin Browne Jr, son of three-time PGA Tour winner Olin Browne, who carded a two-over 72.

The top five scores and ties from each of the pre-qualifying sites advance to Monday’s qualifier from where the top four golfers will earn a place in the Cognizant Classic, where the winner will get $1.62m [£1.28m] from the event’s $9m [£7.12m] purse.

Woods has competed in the last four editions of the PNC Championship alongside his father, who was forced to withdraw from the Genesis Invitational last week due to illness, later revealed to be influenza.

Charlie also took part in last year’s Notah Begay III Junior Golf National Championship, with his father acting as his caddie, and finished tied for 17th in the boys 14-15 division.

Tiger Woods’ son Charlie is looking to play pro.

The 15-year-old will take part in a PGA Tour pre-qualifier Thursday in an attempt to play the Cognizant Classic in Florida from Feb. 29 to March 3, the PGA Tour stated on its website Wednesday.

Charlie will play at Lost Lake Golf Club in Hobe Sound, Florida, which is one of four pre-qualifying sites for the Classic. A total of 25 players will then advance to a full qualifier on Monday, from which four will earn the right to tee off in the Cognizant Classic alongside pros including Rickie Fowler and current world No. 2 Rory McIlroy,

The son of the 82-time PGA Tour winner will be just 15 years and 21 days old if he’s successful, according to USA Today. This will top his father, 48, who played his first Tour event at the age of 16.

Charlie has previously competed with his dad in the two-player PNC Championship, which features teams comprised of a major champion and a family member. In 2021, Tiger and Charlie finished second in the event, reported ESPN.

In addition to Charlie, Tiger shares daughter Sam Alexis, 16, with his ex-wife Elin Nordegren. In December 2023, she also joined the duo at the PNC Championship when she served as her dad’s caddie for the first time at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando, Florida.

In a video jointly shared on the PGA Tour and PNC Championship’s Instagram pages, Sam stood next to her father and chatted with him as she cleaned one of his clubs.

“For the first time, Sam Woods is caddying for her father today ❤,” the post’s caption read.

“I just love being with them and seeing what they’re doing, what they’re capable of doing – the joys, just the shifts of interest,” the golf legend said of his children in 2011. “It’s just fun. We have a great time together.”
